Today I tried the meatloaf, prior only tried the ox tails which were delicious, however this time I can't say the same. Unfortunately, my meatloaf was burnt where I couldn't chew almost an inch from entire edges... the middle was ok but the taste was not that good. Normally live this place and visit quite often. The owner and her daughter is the nicest people, great customer interaction. But I went there a couple of weeks ago and the two young girls that was working gave terrible service. I stood at the counter at the front for 30 minutes and still didn't get serviced. Both girls do do untuned to the young men that was walking end to until they left the customers wait until I guess they could way on the young guys that came in. Basically I waited in the line far 20 minutes or more just to get to the front counter and not get waited in and surely ignored. This was so rude and they need to do the flirting outside of work and on their own time. Neither ne if them took any attemptto assist the customers waiting, it was really ridiculous. I have been in this place over and over again. I have never waited any longer than 20 minutes even at their busiest time. I've seen delivery orders be out before people in line. Why would a door dash order take an hour and a half? This is unacceptable! To make a dasher wait over an hour is not a good business practice. Ordered at 5:11pm and here we are at 6:30 and the dasher is being told 10 more minutes. We will re evaluate re visiting or referring others. Very disappointing. read more

The greens were a little too salty for me, but very tender. The bbq chicken was good, maybe baked a bit longer do the meat falls off the bone. Their red beans and rice were delicious too. I'm gluten free so I couldn't get any of the other meat, but when you walk in, the smell alone makes you want to eat everything!! Staff is excellent at customer service. My husband ordered the oxtail plate with greens and mac & cheese as the sides. I had the baked chicken with mac & cheese as the side. Both plates come with corn bread. Mmm mmm mmm. The mother and daughter who own the business are so lovely. We waited a little for the freshly baked cornbread and it was worth the wait on its own. But we were doubly rewarded because the sweet daughter gave us extra cornbread and extra sides since we waited and it was almost closing time. She gave us a full plate of mac & cheese, green beans, and the BEST yams. Such generosity (especially in this current economy) and kindness!! We had a whole conversation with them as we waited for everything to be plated and learned that they moved to Riverside from Long Beach--where my husband and I also grew up. As someone who just wolfed my plate down as if I had never eaten something that wasn't cardboard in flavor before I have to tell you this restaurant's food is amazing! I had the Smothered Pork Chop on Rice, a side of Mac n Cheese, and Greens Beans with a piece of Corn Bread that is part of their Meal Combo, for less than an extremely justifiable $20. When I walked in I was immediately greeted with a clean environment and a beautiful woman who was dancing to the old school R&B on the radio, she smiled and apologized as she rushed over to the counter to take my order, off her suggestion I got the Smothered Pork Chop, I'm so glad I did, the meat was tender and falling away from the bone while being juicy and well seasoned, the Rice absorbed the gravy but didn't get mushy at all. My side of Mac N Cheese was perfectly cheesy without being pasty or artificial tasting like with lesser Macs, the noodles held up well to the cheese and were perfectly al dente, the Green Beans were so flavorful, my words cannot do them justice, they may look plain but I highly recommend getting them, to die for. The cornbread ended my meal with a sweet, almost dessert like, corn meal flavor that had me wishing for whole or condensed milk to top it with. Besides the food though, the amazing specimen of a woman who assisted me with my order was so cute and attentive, I do not feel at all ashamed to say I was enthralled with her. She put gravy on my Rice without me even having to ask and was laser focused and bursting with energy the whole time. I was also very impressed that they offered a vegetarian combo, which was your choice of four sides. Between the two of us we tried all of them except the yams and the broccoli. Then sides all stood out on their own yet complimented each other easily. There is no holding back on the seasoning and spices here and there's no way your saying this food is bland. We initially ordered 2 smothered pork chop plates w/ yams, black eyed peas, and greens(nice chunk of cornbread too) 2 huge porked chops on a bed of rice then covered in gravy..yams were just sweet enough, black-eyed peas, greens were hitting too! I ended up ordering an extra side of yams, Mac n cheese(best I've had) and 2 pork chop plates and 1 baked chicken plate... for my kids and sister. The Owners and Fam are wonderful people!
