First time visit today and will definitely return. Intended to go to Villa's but was put off by the long line. Lucky for me bc Metro Balderas was amazing! Food was delicious, service was great, table and everything else was clean. Very comfortable place with lots of great food and drink options. I went with the chicken huarache and tamarindo. So good! Huge portion so plenty leftover for dinner. My friends and I know Mexican food and we were all extremely satisfied. Service with a smile was a nice bonus. read more

Have been in Highland Park for two years now and this is my favorite restaurant on Fig. I eat here at least every other week, would eat here more if I didn't force myself to try new places once in a while or cook some meals at home tbh. I know we have so many great Mexican food options in Los Angeles in general but there are differences in the style of the food depending on the region the person cooking the food is from. My mom is from a small town two hours from CDMX and the food at Metro Balderas reminds me of the food I grew up eating, which is so important to me now that I'm across the country and don't get to enjoy her cooking often. Don't expect anything super fancy, you're not paying for that. Do expect that you'll have a really great home style meal accompanied by amazing handmade tortillas (unless you order single tacos, those come dont come with the hadmade tortillas). I feel like I've had most items on the menu at this point, but my favorite items are the Enmolladas de pollo, Carnitas, Milanesa (both the entree and the torta) and Quesadillas but I have not had a bad thing yet. The salsa bar is solid, I like their pickled onions/carrot mix and their green salsa. The other is a bit too spicy for me but tasty nonetheless. I have read some reviews saying that the service isn't great, and while the staff aren't necessarily always super chipper, I haven't encountered any rudeness or unpleasantness. read more

He was pouring down with rain in the door opens outward to where the roof is draining. So if it's raining, be prepared to come in sopping wet . I ordered enchiladas. They had no flavor. They were lacking salt. It's like they just made tacos and poured canned enchilada sauce on top. I grabbed some chili and onions from the salsa station and that didn't help at all either. had been here before years ago and didn't like it then. I decided to give him another chance. I asked for a cup of water and they pointed to a water station with cone cups who can't even set it on the table. The lady at the register was not very nice either. I'm never coming back. read more

The tostada was amazing, they used two tostadas and put beans in the middle of it and then they put the meat on top of that with the lettuce and cheese and all the fixings and it was just delicious. their homemade salsa is really good. I also got the Chichron quesadilla which was equally as delicious, even herbaceous with all of the seasoning and sauces. I highly recommended. Can't wait to go back and try more.. read more

Delicious Mexican Antojitos and plates at good prices! We have returned to Metro Balderas after a few years of the first visit before all the COVID craziness. We really enjoy all the plates we have ordered during our visits this year and it was long overdue to post a review. Good flavor, we have a lot of favorites here like the huaraches (I do steak, my husband chicken), chilaquiles, tostadas, pambazos, taquitos dorados and a few more. Food is really good! The service is prompt, the restaurant is clean as well as the bathroom. This is one of the few places that still has a salsa bar and that's a big plus! Picture posted of the items we ordered today, including our first time ordering an Eskimo which was good too. I'm glad today they had better music playing, they usually have heavy metal music and it is kind of annoying to be eating and listening to that, it triggers my nerves Lol! But today they had mellow Spanish music which was SO much better, they should really just leave the music like that. My friend who writes amusing reviews of Huevos Rancheros, which he orders in both down-homey spots like this one, as well as restaurants that probably shouldn't be attempting the dish, recommended this place, which was crowded on a Saturday morning. The Huevos Rancheros were exceptional with crisp tortillas and a scrumptious tomatillo sauce, which is not so common on the dish. Even better, though, was the Huevo Huarache my wife ordered, also with a tomatillo sauce, little bits of fried egg on top, and yummy many times over. First I'll start by saying the portions here are huuuuge! The staff is so nice. It feels like you are eating at your tio and tias house. There is a familiar warmth and friendliness about the service. Went in today and got the Balderas Torta for me and my fiancé, we got a taco of carnitas, and a Gordita to share. We wanted to try a few different items, and we were not disappointed at all! The torta was great with milanesa, hot dog, ham, chorizo with eggs!! The carnitas tacos were big and the meat was very tasty, but the star had to be the Gordita! Fresh and so delicious! I LOVE the flautas. I will need to try some other menu items. I had some dry asada tacos (not as yummy) and a decent chicken taco. The soup (not tomato based) is also yummy. I will get that soup any time I'm sick. The salsa picoso is delish. This may be a place you have to order the right stuff from but those flautas? Rice n beans good too. They have my loyalty - and have allowed me to move on from the other restaurant down the street with the mean lady that I won't name. I'm back reading other reviews for recommendations. Taste: As with many Mexican restaurants, you're gonna want the freshly made tortillas! So quick review here on taste: they use the fresh tortillas on the huaraches, quesadillas, and wipes, but not on the tacos. I'm a big fan of their quesadillas and recommend you get that filled with your meat of choice instead of 2-3 tacos. Experience: The place is cute, unpretentious, music volumes at the right level to have a conversation. Personally I like the table outside in the back. Mood Before/After: I've come in a good mood and left in a good mood. Fullness: very very full. One quesadilla is enough for me. I usually have a big appetite, and I don't think I could order more than that. What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: this review was written on multiple trips. But one time was after a pool party, often I come alone not having done much with my day. I was missing this soup so much and craving in the last week as I battled a sore throat & nasal congestion. And thankfully after much research found this place on Yelp & I was not disappointed. No exaggeration I went in 3x in 3 days for this, that's how much I missed & enjoyed it. Prior to going to here I did read reviews so I came prepared with cash & called beforehand to get pricing as some said it was on the pricey side but I found it to be reasonable. This place is awesome. Ive been coming to metro balderas since they were in Encino. My family and I love the food. It is authentic mexican food. The flavor is consistent like back at home. After reading all the reviews and looked at the pictures I thought I'd try this place. I love Mexican food and was a bit disappointed. The tacos were ok, but the chile was hot witch I loved. My daughter got the sope and that good. As far as cleanliness this place is clean but very hot inside. Not sure about how summer will be in here. Parking is street parking. read more

I've eaten here a couple times. Had a asada sope and pastor taco the first trip. The 2nd time on a Sunday, I tried the carnitas taco. The carnitas taco was the best thing I tried. But the carnitas was a bit under-seasoned. The sope wasn't fresh, but it was tasty. The best thing about this place--besides the very nice owners/workers--was the salsa. Both the red and green were really fresh with a nice pop. I liked the green best. Overall, it was pretty good. I may go back to try something else. read more
