I've lived in Augusta over four years now & nothing hits like Metro Diner when you're hungover. My go to is always the eggs benny but the items they have featured are also pretty good. The ONLY thing I'd want to see to make this place even better are coasters for the cups because I hate that they sweat on the table. General || The 'diner' has that typical retro look with small booths and tables in front of the open kitchen. There's a large parking lot outside that loops around the restaurant. We arrived on a Saturday around 12:30 PM and had to wait about 30-40 minutes to be seated as the restaurant was packed inside and out. Food || For the most part, everything was great. Visited this establishment on Sunday 5/2/24 around 10:30am with family. Although the service was excellent and the food was good, the manager this particular morning was the rudest. While our waiter "John" was taking our order the manager approached him and said " hurry up " we were all in dismay because "John" had just begun to take our orders. Had it not been for the kind service of "John" we would have gotten up and walked out. I don't know what kind of management training is being done at this establishment but in certain cases it needs to be reviewed. read more

With my appetite being the way it is, it's been hard to stomach a lot of restaurant foods but I'll tell you now that the Metro Diner hit the spot for me. The flavor was good, the pieces were juicy, but crispy and overall good without too much salt to flavor. But, I really want to get to the waffle! At first, I was extremely cautious because of the thickness of the waffle and the strawberry butter. I'm used to a thinner waffle so it was a visual turn-off to begin, but I wanted chicken and waffles, so I had to conform. The waffle was delicious with syrup alone, but OMG that strawberry butter took it to another stratosphere! if you're out looking for a good filling breakfast of a 1/2 chicken and a delicious waffle then look no further. After eating here the opening month, I knew I was way overdue for another visit. So a Sunday brunch found me suggesting a return to the Metro Diner. Being later morning I was concerned about the wait time, but took a gamble anyway. We arrived to a full house and a wait of 20 minutes, With it being one of few cold days that Augusta has each year, I wondered if we would be crammed in the foyer or forced to stand outside. Turns out they had planned for this. Part of the outside patio area had been sectioned off with heavy duty plastic enclosure with heat and complimentary coffee. I mention all this so you understand just how customer-centric this restaurant is. I came hungry so I went straight to the larger dishes. For some reason the chicken pot pie was calling my name, and I am sure glad I answered. I ordered the bigger portion (I told you i was hungry) and the turnaround time was minimal. When that bowl was placed before me, I knew I was in for something delicious. This pot pie isn't made with the traditional dough casing, but instead has a biscuit crust top. I found this to 1) be really tasty and 2) appear to have allowed the ingredients to cook more evenly and properly. Having the vegetables I anticipate (peas and carrots), I typically find them to be overcooked. Sidenote: this is due to the need to fully bake the crust casing. But not this time. Both had the right amount of firmness and everything had a perfect blend of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the hint of salt and butter that worked to complement the dish instead of overpowering it. I wish, as I do each time, that I had saved room for dessert but it was not meant to be. Limited seating, got there at 8am. Kitchen staff was happy as can be, laughing and singing. I work in one of those major grocery stores where people are just being ignorant, hoarding, yelling at us why we don't have this and that...on and on. We were on the road from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach and my lovely wife found Metro Diner after an on-line search. When I saw a sign at the entry that said "Where locals go to eat", I hoped we were in the right place. Our enthusiastic and attentive waiter Trey took his time to explain alternatives for our order and we got just what we wanted. The old man went for the fried chicken dinner, though the chicken and waffle was tempting. This was some of the best fried chicken I have had in a long time; it came right out of the fryer and was very hot. Juicy, lots of flavor with a crispy coating. Excellent mashed potatoes were clearly homemade with very good gravy. I got a side of Mac and cheese because I was in the south and that is a litmus test; very good flavor and al dente macaroni. A truly terrific biscuit was perfect. Trey provided timely refills of my drink and followed up to make sure we were happy. Darling wife had a veggy wrap with superb, tender crisp grilled vegetables on the side. She said it was one of the best wraps she ever had and honestly it was a pleasant surprise in a diner emphasizing traditional southern comfort food. During our meal, both the manager and owner stopped at our table to check on the food and service. Well, I've been hearing about Metro Diner for a while now and finally got in to see what all the fuss is about - I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! My husband's office was having lunch here so I joined them. We decided to split the chicken and waffles which, considering the size when the dish came out, was an excellent decision. I ate the light meat and the hubs had the dark so, again, perfect for us. It's HALF of a chicken. And then a waffle (4 quarters), strawberry butter, and spicy maple syrup. I was skeptical. Then I tasted everything. Just try it - put some butter on the chicken and try the maple syrup on anything and everything! You won't be sorry. Although completely satisfied with our choice, the look of some of the other people's dishes made me want to go back and try some other options - soon! read more

A quick Apple Maps search for restaurants in the Augusta area caught our attention. We arrived a little after 12-noon, checked-in and were told by the Host that our wait time to be seated would be 10 to 25 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised when in less than 15-minutes my iPhone received a text informing us that our table for three was ready. Our Server Cottie (pronounced Co-Tee) was great. She was warm, friendly and attentive. Cottie took our orders for drinks, I ordered a coffee; no cream or sugar. The coffee was perfectly balanced, no doubt a medium flavored breakfast brew which wasn't acidic and very pleasant to consume. I ultimately decided on the Classic Eggs Benedict with hash brown, my all-time favorite breakfast. It wasn't more than 10 to 15 minutes that our food was being brought over; speedy delivery of order, always a huge plus for an establishment. The Classic Eggs Benedict was solid but not exceptional, as was the hollandaise sauce. The hash brown was perfectly cooked, very clean, not too oily and just the perfect picturesque golden brown color. Portion size was appropriate and not gluttonous. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The food was good but the value was exceptional. Gratuity included, my meal with coffee was less than $20. The exceptional value bumped up my overall rating from a strong 3 to a solid 4-Star experience. Lived up to the Hype I've been meaning to visit since I moved here in September. Everyone talked about how good it was, so I finally paid them a visit. Service: We came on a Saturday around 1:00PM, so there was a 20-30 mins wait. They are considerate enough to open the patio and provide complimentary coffee and water. Super nice. When we were finally seated, I was so overwhelmed by the number of items on the menu, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Thankfully our waitress was so nice and patient with me. :) FYI: Items in green are their best sellers. Food: I ordered a mimosa, of course it's Brunch, it wasn't bad. Better than I thought it would be. I order the WESTERN OMELETTE WITH EGG WHITES and a side of fries. Everything was delicious. And HOT. Their FRIES are bomb too! I could've ate them without ketchup. Overall I had a positive experience at the "Metro Diner" My first impression was "how cool the place looks" I definitely feel like I'm in a diner. The menu is loaded with choices. The breakfast and lunch choices alone should be enough to satisfy most. In addition to the lunch and dinner menu. They also off fourteen sandwich and hamburger choices. I went here for the first time today, and it was bleh. I ordered the croissant French toast and it was terrible. It had a weird texture like a badly baked cake but it was also extremely eggy in flavor. I couldn't finish eating it. It was disappointing in flavor, texture, and appearance. My boyfriends dish was okay, but we've eaten better meals for cheaper. The service was okay. I typically like it when a waiter or waitress doesn't hover over me, but my waiter was no one to be found sometimes.
