It's 0805 and the dining area is already bustling with my fellow breakfast enthusiasts. The air is filled with muffled conversations and occasional outbursts of laughter Metro Diner, one of the most reviewed breakfast eateries in Augusta. This is our 3rd or 4th time visiting Metro Diner. The decor hasn't change much. From the checkered floor tiles to the metal accented tables and further still to the bar with barstools harkens to some 1970s diner with waitresses names Fran. The service: I wouldn't call the service friendly. It is more of semi-formal interaction bordering on a curt back and forth. No time for causal conversation here! There was no "good morning!" or "nice to see you". It was "can I get you x". This type of customer service has been consistent across our multiple visits. You know that awkward time after your party is done eating and you're waiting on the server to bring the check.. yea that happened. No flavored coffee creamer - which I've found to be more of a standard offering at other breakfast places. I'm not sure if they limit the creamer flavors to promote their special more expensive in-house flavored coffee or other added costs to offering flavored creamer. Personally, I like my coffee a little hotter than what was brought to us. The food - I can't put my finger on it, but something is off with the food. Our dishes arrived at our table exceptionally fast... almost too fast. I suspect parts of our meal were pre-made. In a breakfast diner environment I fully expect for my meal to be made when I order it. If Huddle House can do it so can Metro Diner. Today I chose the Steak & Scramble Bowl. The Steak & Scramble Bowl is overvalued. The steak was tender, and amount was sufficient, however the taste was a little lacking. Unfortunately, the hash browns added very little to the bowl in terms of flavor or texture. In fact, the hash browns tasted like they were made well ahead of my order. The scrambled eggs were slightly above room temperature. You'll notice from the picture that the tepid temperature of the dish was not sufficient to melt the Great Value shredded cheese. The description said the hallandaise was drizzled on top of the bowl. You'll note from the picture that the "hollandaise" was globbed in a central location. Lastly, the contents of the bowl did not fill up the bowl. I also ordered a Belgium waffle. The waffle was good. However, at $7.79 it was a little pricey, especially considering the toppings or the lack there of. read more

This restaurant is a fancier Denny's with greasier food. I like it though! It has a mom and pop feel even though it's a chain. The food is delicious. I ordered the Monte Cristo, and it was pretty good. My OCD friend, who can not have her food touch, ordered the meatloaf, and the waitstaff was more than happy to accommodate her and served each part of the meal on a different plate. My one gripe about this place is it's cleanliness, hence the "mom and pop" feel. The silverware we received was dirty, in a Waffle House handwashed sort of way. But if you order a sandwich you don't need silverware. read more

It's been quite a while since my visit here but i just got around to reviewing. My cousins and i decided to go here for brunch and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Upon being seated our waitress came over but she seemed a little overwhelmed. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they were good just needed a little Salt and pepper. The problem that we ended up having was they got my cousins order wrong 4 or 5 times and we finally just took whatever they brought us. This place is amazing! We had a party of 6 so I was able to check out alot of what they offer. The menu has been limited due to covid19. That said the staff is busy yet friendly, knowledgeable and super attentive. The food was so good my friends asked to go back before going home to LA. The chicken and waffles are A MUST HAVE, THE STRAWBERRY BUTTER OMG!! The place is packet waited 40 minutes for a table but sooo worth the wait. They have GOOOOOD fried chicken!! Flavor and juicy. Not over cooked. Mac and cheese tastes homemade and noodles not overcooked. Philly cheese stake was standard. An older person in my party wasn't a big fan of the chicken though. The roll/biscuit that came with the meal tasted homemade and buttery. The steak tibs were juicy!! It tasted as if soy sauce and another dark sauce was used to marinate the meat. Our order was a takeout and ready in 20 minutes. The restaurant wasn't hard not find and it wasn't too busy for a weekday. It was very chill. There was a sign that says "this is where the locals eat" and I definitely got that vibe. I removed a star due to service. I parked in the curbside pickup and followed the directions to receive my order but there was no answer to the phone. I walked in and there was no one to greet me or tell me to wait for service. The cooks in the back could see I needed some assistance and didn't notify anyone. I found the pickup counter which was on the left side of the entrance and the employee who was there had the restaurant's phone in her pocket so I'm assuming she didn't hear my phone call. The food wasn't labeled and for some of my order the entree and sides where in one dish and not for the other entrees. Super confusing so I would suggest to check your curbside orders before leaving the restaurant. Great spot to eat for dinner and breakfast. We ate here for dinner and had the fish and chips and the chicken pot pie. Fish and chips were surprisingly good. Batter was crunchy and the cod was fresh and meaty. Chicken pot pie was good as well. So good, we had to come back for breakfast next day. Had the chicken and waffles and honey spicy chicken biscuits. Both I would highly recommend. Server and service was very nice and friendly. Driving through Augusta and having a nightmare hotel experience and the worst Chinese food in town experience, we needed to have a great breakfast. This place was located near by and had great reviews. This place is packed to the brim! The wait for approx 40-45 mins, they have a sweet mobile text system in place. We went grocery shopping at Sprouts while waiting for our turn. All food is available all day long! Our server was amazing!!!! All staff was friendly. The place smells divine and looks like your typical lively diner. The silverware even though 'clean' looks murky. I washed every single piece with water and polished it with my napkin... check out the photo of the shine vs. mushiness of my spoon! All food is made to your liking, you can choose any combo or topping but I believe it comes with a price... my dish I ordered first (their steak and eggs) was bland, had no salt nor seasoning and the steak was chunky and chewy. I had to return it and get what my son ordered... two eggs (sunny side up) with hash browns, 2 turkey sausages and an English muffin. It was nice, still needed a bit of salt and pepper though. My daughter ordered waffle with fruit and chocolate chips on top. She gave it a thumb up. Overall a great place, has a nice vibe, is lively and busy. I think the busyness of the place is taking away from the tastefulness and deliciousness of dishes served. You can tell the dishes are made under a tremendous time pressure and it shows. I had Eggs Benedict with cheese grits. The only problem was the English muffins were grilled not toasted (remember McDonald's introduction of the Egg McMuffin, ugh). They were busy but got us seated in a timely fashion. The red headed gentleman at the host stand was very polite and handled his multitasking job with ease. Thank you sir. Our waitress was the best. I'm bad with names, but she was a delightful, tall, thin woman with dark hair pulled into a ponytail. She made us feel right at home and helped us with our food choices. You would never know that she had multiple tables going at once at this popular restaurant. The cinnamon roll pancakes were delicious. I didn't think it was possible to make either one of those items taste better than they already did, but metro diner was able to do so. My daughter had the chicken pot pie and it was just as delicious as it sounded. It was a warm, homemade, flaky top crust pie with delicious chicken and vegetables inside. All of the orders are taken on small iPads. 7 bar stools, booths and plenty of tables. Occupancy over 100. Limited menu items for non meat/egg eaters. I ordered hash browns and a Belgian waffle with fresh bananas! Crispy hash browns greasy but yummy Belgian waffle was moist. Lastly 2 bathroom stall. Plenty of parking. I will return for lunch and a review. To wrap it up, I embrace good food. My only concern about this place is that typical Augusta food patrons don't like spending a lot of money, that's why fast food chains thrive here. I love this restaurant, but this location is very lacking. Ordered chicken tenders and a breakfast. The food came out 4 to 5 minutes after we ordered. Anyone who eats chicken knows this is to soon. It was beyond dry and tasted of pure oil I could not eat it. The home fries also tasted of old oil. My steamed broccoli was more than likely boiled vs steamed. After 3 bites I was done. I have given this location several chances and unfortunately every time it's very mid. The best thing about the Metro Diner is the service. The staff is always friendly and attentive! It's always loud no matter what time of day it is somehow which can be hard on anyone with any hearing issues. The menu here is very large which indicates most of the food is frozen which is something I like to take into account. Overall I wouldn't recommend visiting. read more

Either the grease was old or chicken had been cooked and retried several times. Potatoes and gravy were very cold. It was worst chicken I have had. I know restaurants are having a difficult time. Fall from grace. Metro opened a couple years ago to a phenomenal and refreshing menu, portion size, and service. The chicken and waffles, burgers, breakfast all were great choices and worth ordering. Today they are a pale imitation of their former self. Fries come out soggy, orders are not complete the hollandaise sauce is trash. Went in for dinner and it was quite packed, we had a 10 minute wait. Once seated our waitress cane and took our drink orders. We were hungry and we already knew what we wanted to order. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles, my sister ordered an avocado wrap, and I ordered the turkey and gravy. Let's start with the chicken and waffles... i spoke so highly of them because every time I've had them the chicken was crispy and my waffle was crispy and fluffy. On this night, it fell short of expectations. The waffle was sad. It was limp, no crisp at all. The chicken wasn't crispy as usual, but it did have the usual great flavor throughout it. My sister's avocado wrap cake out missing avocado, rice, and, beans, it only contained lettuce. She sent it back and the manager came over and apologized. Once it was fixed, she enjoyed it. I decided to save the worst for last... i had high expectations of the turkey and gravy from reviews that I've read, but it was disappointing to say the least. The gravy was good, the turkey was a processed product. I thought I was going to get fresh cut turkey...but I was mistaken. The only thing good on my plate was the bread and cranberry sauce. If you're in North Augusta and Augusta this the (and maybe the only place) for actual quality food and hospitality services. Waitress was prompt and accommodating. Venue was clean. Parking was decent. Had the chicken tender plate this time and have had the chicken and waffles which were both good meals. I prefer the chicken n' waffles over the chicken tender plate, just because it's chicken tenders and you can usually get that any where you go. Panning the room, I see a military couple, a mom and daughter, an elderly couple among the many people here. The diner seems to be the watering hole that brings them all together. This place is clean and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The diner smells of delicious waffles with a slight hint of bacon and syrup. The food got here and it was as good as I expected. I had the French toast breakfast. The eggs were rich and fluffy. The bacon crisp but not over cooked and the home fries were delicious although slightly under seasoned for my taste. It was more than I could finish ( and that says a lot ). One last tip is, make sure you ask for Cody as a waitress. She was extremely helpful when deciding what to order. Finally!! We get to try this highly recommended eatery! We came on a rainy Saturday about a month ago (45 minute wait???!!!) but I learned quickly that rain doesn't seem to stop or alter most people here in Augusta (which is great to me coming from Cali where we don't do rain we'll!) Since me and the Mr. we're both free on a weekday morning, we decided to give this joynt another go and we were both glad that we did! We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. There was a nice amount of people enjoying their food experience but not overly crowded. Our server was pleasant and friendly (Flo was her name).
