Me and my boo were craving some eggs benedict on this fine Monday morning. I stumbled upon Metro Diner last night while looking up places to go. It's located in the corner of a strip of other businesses. It's welcoming with checkerboard floors, green backlit lights, and a big cafe sign with specials written. We even saw that they had a picture of Guy Fieri visiting. Not sure if it was that specific location, but still pretty cool. I was ready to be taken to Flavortown. Lol. We requested a booth, so it took a minute to be seated while they were cleaning. We sat down and were greeted a few moments after and ordered waters to start and some hot herbal tea. The fried chicken benedict caught our eye, so we got 2 orders of that and called it a day. Fast forward about 30 mins later, our teas never got there but the benedict plate came out hot and fresh. It looked delicious and it truly was...so I didn't care about the tea at this point. The hollandaise was flavorful and tangy, the chicken was tender with a nice texture, and the hashbrowns in the side were perfectly crispy on top! The poached eggs were slightly overdone but still jammy, I think because everything was still so hot. Nevertheless it tasted good, so not a big issue. I got to go to Flavortown, so I was happy. A 6-8 oz. pulled section of pot roast served over mashed potatoes, tender stalks of celery, and carrots all covered in perfectly seasoned gravy. I can highly recommend this item from the menu. I met a friend for lunch and it was a great choice. I had the fish and chips and she had pot pie. My fish was tender, flaky and good!! I had fries and coleslaw which was also good! Her pot pie was a good size with a biscuit too. She said it was good. Our waitress was very good and checked on us several times. Also the cooks were coming by checking on the food after the rush. Really enjoyed coming out here a few nights ago. I scoped out their menu, just to confirm if there was anything else I wanted, but my heart was set on the chicken and waffles, and it would have been hard to have an upset here. They have some good chicken & waffles, especially when topped with the strawberry butter. Only thing I would change is that I wish they were boneless chicken breasts or tenders with their waffles. If can be frustrating, and messy, to cut those up and deal with that and the waffles all on one plate. They also gave some sriracha hot sauce mixed with their maple syrup into a glaze that could be put on the chicken. The location is a little smaller than what the outside impression gives you. Visited Metro Diner on 1/11/25 and the place was surprisingly unclean! The (1st) table they sat us at there was food in seat and food and gum in window! The (2nd) seat they sat us at there was liquid on food, possible soda under table and table wasn't clean. The (3rd) seat was very close to bathroom which I would have rejected but my other guest wanted pancakes so we stayed. I just recently moved to Alabama from Pennsylvania and I miss traditional Dinners. This has been my go to place for breakfast and lunch. Never had a bad meal. Service is Excellent! My favorite breakfast meals is the traditional Eggs Benedict and Omelets. Poached eggs are always done perfectly, not hard or watery. Omelets you can ask anyway you want them to be, very good. Lunch is also my favorite place to go, the Club sandwich is very Good. The Philly Cheese Steak, although it states Provolone cheese, (you don't put Provolone cheese on a Philly Cheese Stead, it's usually American), but I order what I have been eating back in Phila for the past 55 yrs and Metro makes it pretty Darn Close, very Good! We stopped by on a Sunday evening for dinner. We ordered the chicken tender plate, with coleslaw and a Caesar salad, and the turkey plate with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and cornbread dressing. First impressions: everything on the turkey plate was very salty. The turkey tastes like it may come packaged instead of cooked on premise. However, the green beans were very good. The chicken tenders were a little undercooked and rubbery, but had a good flavor and I liked the breading. The Caesar salad was good, but there was no Parmesan cheese on it, which is an important part. In the end, the turkey plate was just not good. The mashed potatoes didn't have much flavor, and the gravy had a weird aftertaste. The dressing was just mush. The rest of the chicken tenders were done, and so were pretty good. The Cole slaw was okay, as was the Caesar salad. We might be back to try the Belgian waffles, but not anytime soon. read more

Really good breakfast! Was in town for a conference with lunches and dinners provided, so I really wanted a chance to sample some local flair - We decided on Metro Diner for breakfast. I ordered the San Francisco Benedict as I am a huge fan of the standard eggs benedict and thought it would be good to give this alternative with avocado and tomatoes a shot. It was delicious! From bottom to top it was prepared just right. Muffins were toasted just right and those little nooks & crannies really caught all of the goodness. The Canadian Bacon was cooked well also. So far, two things that are pretty hard to jack up, so lemme get to the eggs and that Hollandaise sauce. The sauce was fresh and not clumpy like I have had in other places and the eggs were perfectly poached. Great mix of flavors in all...especially with some hot sauce on those scrumptious hashbrowns. First time here, definitely not my last! Met my fiance here prior to some Black Friday weekend shopping on a Sunday about 1:30 pm. Even arriving later then the normal Sunday lunch crowded time, there was a 15 - 20 minute wait for the two of us to get seated. Once seated our server took great care of us throughout the meal. She kept our drinks full and got us anything we needed. As we watched other servers taking plates of food out to other tables, we were constantly surprised at how large the servings were. I went with the: BOLD CITY BURGER~ Provel cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, sausage, fried jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli on a brioche bun. My fiance went with the: MEATLOAF PLATE ~ Our famous meatloaf, mashed red skinned potatoes and brown gravy with veggies and a baguette. Mine had a couple mods - no tomato and no garlic aioli. It was cooked perfectly and was a really good burger in general. Later found out that the patties aren't just ground beef but a mixture of several better cuts, which explains why it was so good. My fiance's was good, but we had a few problems. Her's came out exactly as ordered, however everything on the plate was lukewarm at best. They were more then friendly about this and got her taken care of quickly - we couldn't have asked for the situation to have been handled any differently. My husband and I have breakfast after our workout on most Tuesdays or Thursdays at Metro Diner Trussville. Service is always good. I usually get the meat lovers omelet (substitute pork sausage for turkey sausage) and hash browns. It's ALWAYS delicious. We are always treated like family, even the chefs thank us for coming when we're leaving. On our last visit something stood out. There was an elderly man seated alone having breakfast. The staff constantly checked on him, one server even sat with him a moment and talked with him. Then the chef, on her way to take a break, came over to inquire how he was feeling. This made me tear up. Elders are often overlooked, so for them to take the time to fellowship with him I'm sure made his day. I know it made my day to see that people still care, there's still good in the worI would want someone to treat my parents that way. read more

I came here for the first time today with my aunt and daughter. I've been wanting to come try this place since it had opened. We came right before lunch and we're sat quickly and had a server show up promptly to take our drink orders. Our waitress was nice and helpful and our food came out fast. I got the crab cakes eggs Benedict with hash browns. It was delicious. The crab cakes were some of the best I've ever had. I almost wished I had just gotten them with out the other stuff. My 4 year old got pancakes and a side of broccoli which she ate most of. My aunt got the Reuben sandwich and said it was really good as well. My first time experiencing metro was truly spectacular! The service was very friendly and quick to act and the interior was spacious and very beautiful and homey. The parking is plentiful so you shouldn't have a trouble finding somewhere to park. As for the food, even though it's not as unique of options the portions are A LOT. I've tried the chicken & waffles, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, avocado spread with tomatoes and a burger and sandwich combined! The chicken and waffles come with strawberry butter that tasted like strawberry icecream and it was a fantastic addition to the entree. The chicken was tender and flavorful with barely any excess grease on it and the waffles was very fluffy and sweet alone. My favorite has to be the tender meatloaf with gravy and mashed potatoes, I will definitely be back to order that again. The burger/sandwich was amazing and cooked perfectly but I do feel that the amount of bread can be slightly overwhelming for most. The avocado spread with tomato is a great appetizer for those who are looking for a more vegan approach. Overall I had a great experience with the food and staff! One of my new favorite after work breakfast spots! Came here with my coworkers after a long shift at the ER and was so pleased with the meal we had! To start, we each ordered an alcoholic beverage. There were several different kinds of mimosas to choose from, and one coworker tried the cranberry mimosa, while I had the sunrise mimosa, which had grenadine and pineapple juice in addition to the traditional champagne and oj. It was delicious! They also offer bloody Mary's. All the drinks are only 2.99 apiece! For my entree, I had the crab cakes Benedict and it was PERFECT! The crab cakes were flavorful- one coworker said they were spicy but I didn't think so. The eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce was great! I ordered fruit in the side and it wasn't fresh at all, but I was already so stuffed and pleased with the rest of the meal I didn't ask them to swap it out. When I got my bill I saw there was an upcharge for the fruit, so I showed the waitress the fruit and the manager not only removed the upcharge, but comped my entire entree to apologize! I was incredibly grateful for the gesture and WILL be back to try some of the other dishes I had my eye on. Also-get there early. This is a nice diner that lives by their motto "Comfort food with flair. Waiting time was very convenient considering there was a 15 minute wait. I wasn't surprised since It's is a new location and fills the need for more breakfasts spots in Trussville. They took my cellphone number and sent a text when our table was ready. There was a few benches to sit and wait outside. They beat the few competitors with the appropriate brunch cocktails, because let's face it, "Jesus made wine" and when they ran out, he made more! The burger was really good! The eggs were fantastic! Bacon was cooked until just slightly crisp. They definitely have a tempting variety of comfort food. I love to see different menu items like Monte Cristo, fried jalapeños, and aioli at a diner. For those allergen concerns: They use vegetable oil for frying, margarine for butter, and Hellman's mayonnaise. They have a gluten free menu. Now that I'm trying the Keto Diet and avoiding soy it's harder than ever to eat out. I know, I'm that annoying customer but restaurants that work with me gets extra kudos! After we gave the hostess our number and our name, we waited outside. I received a text stating that I had been added to the list. This is 1023 am. At 11 we checked on our table, they said we were next. After a few minutes, my husband went in to check the hostess said that we were not on the list but we were seated. She did not apologize and acted like it was my fault she didn't enter my name. They were very busy but her manager then said "I don't even have you on my list". Ok?!? Then seated we waited.
