The meatloaf has a spike of spice; the fried chicken is crisp but not over-breaded; the mashed potatoes and gravy are spot on and the pot roast would comfort the most uncomfortable. Portions are very generous. The sweet iced tea is perfect and the pumpkin bread pudding---might need to be a little less dense with more sauce. This restaurant is a wonderful local eatery. My partner and I once went there on a whim and we continue going back for both breakfast and dinner. The wait staff is wonderful and very friendly, even when I want to talk and they have things to do lol, and they always know how to relate the smallest thing to a conversation. The atmosphere is really great; it's so comfortable and pleasant and is something that my partner really appreciates to the point that he actually suggests is going there frequently. Jo was our waitress, she was attentive, informative, and just all around super sweet! He made sure our sweet tea was always refilled and gave me a good recommendation. The eggs Benedict weren't on the menu, but I saw it painted on the window, they totally made it for me! And man, we're those some of the best eggs benny I've had in a while! This was our 1st time here. It was wonderful. I had the New Orleans shrimp and grits and my hubby had an omelette along with an egg and sausage croissant sandwich. I also ordered a mimosa. The service was good. On thing I did like was that they use electric pads to take your order. Our food came out quick. Plus when you leave you can get yourself some free coffee, soft drink or sweet tea which was a great bounce. We will be back again real soon. read more

This place hit the spot with the waffles just being perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. With the fried chicken giving the contrast to the sweet flavor of the waffles and syrup combined with a more savory flavor, it packed quite a flavor combination. Used to be a regular here, but no longer. Went this morning for the first time in a while. The servers were excellent, as they always have been. But the food has gone downhill badly. I ordered the three-egg breakfast and asked for my eggs over-medium. Two were cooked correctly, but the third was over very hard. And there were small pools of cooking oil on top. The hash browns were crispy on the top, but undercooked and almost raw-potato crunchy underneath. They no longer have rye toast, so I ordered an English muffin, which was barely toasted. At least the bacon was good. It definitely wasn't worth the $15 after being grossly overcharged for an iced tea to go with the meal. read more

Metro Diner is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Charlotte. Top quality diner food. I swear that they fry everything. Our family is still being cautious about eating out, so delivery is a great option through Uber Eats. Metro's food travels well and they get it out the door fast. I would recommend visiting them too. I love their coffee bar selection. It is serve yourself and has many options. As for food, get the Croissant French Toast and add bananas. To die for!! Their bacon is a great side protein choice. The wait time wasn't unreasonable. The hostess was awesome. Our server was...well, she was ok when she came to the table. We sat a few minutes before our drink order was taken. She may have had more tables than she realized. Once our food order was taken, food came out quickly. Lot of food for a fair price. Order the cinnamon roll pancakes...they are AMAZING!! Shrimp n grits were yummy. I would like to give a higher rating(based on the food) but, it took quite a while to receive the check for table. It seemed that we were an afterthought because after I gave the server my card for payment, we didn't see her for like 10 minutes. That's a little too long for my liking. Good food and good service. My only complaint was the person busing and clearing the tables - he was so obnoxious -- slamming all the plates and silverware into his large plastic container. It was so noisy that my friend and I had to pause our conversation for a minute. My suggestion would be to clear tables by hand so your guests can enjoy their meal with out all this racket. read more

Just the best place! From the food to the atmosphere to the friendly staff. Tucked back in a strip mall, this is well worth the stop. It was our first time, so our great server (Liz) was so kind to us and explained all the great in and outs of the menu and what Metro Diner was all about. We got the Chicken and Waffles of course ! The sauce of Louisiana hot sauce and maple syrup made the taste special. The butter on the waffles were on point! Also, we got the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and those were crazy crazy good. We have tried two different locations of this diner and both times we went away disappointed. The food was just ok. The club sandwich was pretty good. the staff was very sloppy and not attentive. We never got refills on our drinks and our waiter just brought the bill as soon as he delivered the food. Never came back to check on us. read more

If you're looking for ridiculously huge portions of food, this is the place to come. Overall food was mediocre at best. Oil in the fryer must be very old. I had no idea that is a chain but for all that, it was pretty good. The inside is modern and welcoming and there's seating outside too. I opted for a turkey dinner ($11) because who doesn't like a little Thanksgiving in April? It arrived quickly and was pretty huge in size. The turkey was really good - not the gross "loaf" stuff and accompanied by real creamy mashed potatoes. I had a small sad because the turkey itself tasted great but was barely warm. I finally took the hubby here. I had been to a Yelp event, but this was my first time on a normal night. It was very busy, but a hostess greeted us and sat us right away. It seemed like after that, service was a little slow. People were running food like crazy, but it was just busy. The food is awesome. Having tried a lot of the menu already, I decided to try the turkey plate. It was amazing. The turkey was tender and topped with a savory gravy. Sides included mashed red potatoes which were fluffy and buttery and sauteed squash and zucchini. This may have been my favorite part of the dish. Not too buttery or overcooked and some crunch. It was so good, I wondered if they did Thanksgiving meals to go. My husband ordered the Holy Divoli, which has been featured on DDD so you know it has to be crazy. This is no ordinary cheeseburger. They take two grilled cheese sandwiches that have bacon and tomato and use those as the bun! Then you have a very generous burger patty with a homemade pickle relish. My bf picked up brunch for us today and this place had good reviews pretty presentation pictures but i was let down. The chicken with the spicy syrup was the best thing there. A 4 out of 5. The waffle a 2 out of 5. The hashbrowns a 3. The bacon,egg and cheese croissant it seemed like it had 3 eggs on it. The only positive thing I would say about it is they didn't use kraft single slice cheese and they used cheddar. The biggest let down for me is probably the honest to GOODNESS grits( the name had me hopeful) but they were extremely bland no salt . I'm guessing they didn't cook them in broth or add seasoning or milk. I am still in the search for my perfect breakfast spot with flavorful grits and real sausage (not links or pre frozen patties) So IF ANYONE HAS SUGGESTIONS I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO LEAVE A COMMENT. read more

It was super delicious and right up my alley for tasty southern cuisine! The Shrimp and Grits featured two grit cakes smothered and covered. The Fried Chicken Platter featured a half chicken! My mother-in-law ate the Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit. All the food very well done in flavor and fullness. I'd recommend this place to anyone! read more

I can't tell you how much I like this place. Im a sucker for meatloaf and its awesome. Plus to know that they tries to keep thing local and make everything from scratch is amazing and get 5 stars in my book. Like I said. I had the meatloaf and loved it. Well seasoned, not too salty and definitely my type of comfort food. I also ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffle have a nice outer crust. Not to soft in the middle. And the chicken is great.
