I've visited this location twice, and both times left feeling underwhelmed. Like other reviewers have stated, this is NOT a true diner. It's basically just a standard American style restaurant with Diner in the name. You can't really call yourself a diner and close at 8pm during the week and 9pm on the weekends. My first visit I ordered the Meatloaf Plate, which was recommended by the waitress. While the flavor was good, it had to be the smallest portion of meatloaf I've ever received. Two extremely thin slices of meatloaf, barely the thickness of a sliced white bread. The service was good, although they had double the staff as each employee had a shadow they were training, so plenty of help for refills and things like that. On my second visit, I ordered the Vortex Burger which I had seen other Yelp reviewers post about and show off photos. Sadly, my experience seemed to be a little worse than others. The vortex burger is basically a 1/2 pound burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Somehow, amazingly, my top grilled cheese sandwich was made without cheese, and the bottom grilled cheese was flipped inside out, so that the cheese meant to be between the bread slices was actually stuck to the bottom of the burger. They clearly don't actually make grilled cheese sandwiches properly first and then create the burger, and instead just stack it all together and hope the cheese melts between two pieces of bread on the way to the table. It made the burger very dry with layers of bread to get through, so much so that I just ended up taking it apart and making a standard burger. Overall, I don't think this place justifies the somewhat high prices for what they serve. It's just very standard food without much character. If you're looking for a true diner experience, skip this one for now. read more

Ok how did I not know this existed here in town. I happened to be in this area and it was dinner time. After reviewing the options in my head I drove by the Metro Diner and decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. First I have been to the east coast diners in New York / Jersey. They seem to be everywhere. Indy doesn't really have those until I found this one. However, they have quite a few items you dont see too often like the shrimp and grits. Nonetheless, I wasn't super hungry so I decided to try there Reuben. I love Reubens so was happy to see what theirs was like. I was well done. The sandwich is made on rye bread and has pretty good corned beef in it. They throw in the obligatory sour kraut and will put the thousand isle dressing in it or on the side as I prefer. This comes with fries but decided to pay .50 more for a proper side salad. The salad here is quite large but very nice as well. There reuben is a nice size. I have had these in New York delis and you wont get a half pound or more of meat but that is usually overkill unless you want left overs. With the large side salad I still kept half the sandwich for lunch the next day. The staff were very friendly and even gave my daughter a to go box of candy when we left. I would highly recommend this location and will no doubt be returning to try breakfast next. read more

I have been to Metro Diner a handful of times and I am always satisfied. The portions are HUGE. I would suggest the peach tea if they have it, its very sweet, but I love it. Every time I have been the service has been great and the food has been better. I just found out they have a location on Butlers campus as well, I will be visiting this location next. read more

I had the Shrimp PoBoy special with homemade chips. The sandwich was filled with fresh breaded and fried shrimp. The food was hot, not greasy, and very very tasty! ! The atmosphere is awesome and the menu has a great selection of food from breakfast to lunch to dinner. The menu is also awesome. The servers and waitresses are very friendly. Upon arrival I happened to notice other people's orders and the portions look very plentiful. I ordered the Big Berns Fried pork sandwich. This sandwich is humongous and it is very tasty. All in all I had to give this place five stars. I also recommend that you try to request Scott W.as your server. Indianapolis needed a diner and I was glad to see Metro Diner come to the north side. It took awhile for me to be able to get there after there opening. My wife, son and I finally tried it for dinner. As we walked in, the right side of the building where the cooking area and counter are looked like a diner, the rest of the restaurant really didn't scream diner. The menu was large with about half of it being breakfast items...as it should be for a diner. Dinner options are roast beef, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, fried chicken, etc. and they even had Salisbury steak on their specials board...typical diner fare. My son and I opted for the fried chicken dinner and my wife ordered the Cajon chicken pasta special. As others have noted, the portion size is large (as a diner typically is). The fries chicken came out surprisingly fast. All pieces were hot with a crispy skin. Our server through together the syrup and tabasco as has been done for year with chicken and waffles. The mashed potatoes were obviously "homemade". The gravy was a canned gravy with just the taste of salt. I didn't quite get the sautéed summer squash vegetable as diners usually serve seasonal veggies. The fried chicken was moist but definitely could use seasoning on the chicken and in the coating. It was good but not memorable. The Cajon chicken pasta (penne) sauce had a decent flavor but the sauce was too thick and the whole dish had one texture. The green peppers and onions were cooked in the sauce leaving them mushy. Match that with mushy mushroom slices and mushy chicken pieces and you get no contrast in texture. If they lightly sautéed the onions, peppers and mushroom and add them to the pasta with the sauce with the chicken tender pieces on top, the overall dish would have been better. Serves during our visit was tremendous and the whole staff greeted us as we entered and exited. I will go back to Metro for breakfast and/or lunch and update my review as appropriate. read more

A friend of mine went here to eat, so a friend and I decided to meet there for lunch. It was busy, but we were seated promptly. The decor was nice with the an old fashion diner. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My friend got the steak frites. The waiter offered to do the spicy syrup presentation but I declined. As I looked around the restaurant I noticed the portion sizes are large. My order came with a beast, leg, wing & thigh with a waffle topped with strawberry butter. The chicken was seasoned great and the strawberry butter was good. I only gave it 4 stars because I've only had one dish but I plan to go back and try the steak :) read more

This place is great! I've been here a few times with my fiancé and we really love it. It's got that rustic All-American diner feel which is really cool. The food is fantastic, and I'd especially recommend their breakfast food anytime and any day. Their desert options are awesome too, I'd highly recommend the key lime pie if it's available. They also have a fun drink selection, whether that's flavored coffees, soda, domestic beers, or even Bloody Mary's. Lastly, the service has always been excellent as well. Great service to match the great food. The food is made fresh and it shows, we have been twice and had a wonderful experience both times. The chicken and waffles along with their freshly made strawberry butter has a great spin on a classic. We also enjoyed their classic breakfast and breakfast burrito... Large portions done very well. They anticipated 15-20 minute wait, yet we were seated within 10 minutes and had our food within 15. Kudos to the staff, the trainers, the management team. We will be back! Thank you! read more

My family and use to have breakfast there on an occasional weekend. So I was fairly comfortable ordering the chicken and waffles and having it delivered; due to Covid we have done that alot over the last 18 months. Big mistake, The entire meal was almost inedible. I knew immediately that there was an issue when I saw the chicken. It had a color that told me the cooking oil was old and dirty and you could taste it and smell it. It was also very dry and totally and I mean totally flavorless. I ended up just tossing everything and instead ate a bologna sandwich for dinner, which by the way tasted way better. Metro Diner has done a great job at creating a traditional diner feel. I was a little underwhelmed by the service and food, however. It took 20min for a waiter to come get our drink order. Once they did, the food came out quickly. The food was decent and in HUGE quantity so order light :) my sausage biscuits and gravy were good but eggs and hash browns were bland and cold. Although I didn't mind, the atmosphere was very loud which made it hard to have conversation with my grandma so be mindful of that. I think many of the issues I experienced can be chalked up to being a new business. I look forward to going back after it gets the new business kinks worked out! read more

No frills and huge portions are the best way for me to describe the Metro Diner. I went there with my dad this morning and got a super simple breakfast of toast, eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon. It was decent. I will definitely go back. I couldn't finish my breakfast, so you might want to split with someone unless you are super hungry. They had several solo diners, so I think I would be comfortable dining there alone. They also have several different lunch options. It looked like they specialized in "home cooked" options like pot roast and chicken pot pie. It's not fancy. It's just a quick place to get breakfast. read more

We ate at Metro Diner in the Clearwater Crossing area at the suggestion of a friend. The food was freshly prepared, plentiful, & delicious. I had shrimp & grits. The grits were prepared similarly to fried potato pancakes, covered by the shrimp "gravy". My description isn't doing it justice. Absolutely superb! My partner got a unique waffle concoction: a savory waffle made from cornmeal with scrambled eggs, chopped bacon, ham & sausage on top, a sprinkling of cheddar cheese, & topped off with hollandaise sauce. Just wow! Our friend got a fried chicken sandwich with fries that she said was superb. We could eat only about half of our meals, but that didn't stop us from getting the dessert of the day to go - a delectable strawberry shortbread bread pudding. Still full from lunch, we enjoyed this dense, moist, not overly sweet bread pudding served with strawberries & whipped cream for dinner. Our server, Mollie (?), was everything a great server should be. Genuinely friendly, she described how the dishes were prepared, the types of ingredients they use, and was super prompt about getting us our drinks. Our food arrived in a very timely manner, & Mollie graciously handled all of our other requests (more hollandaise sauce, to go containers, to go drinks...). This place is great. I love their Monte Cristo Sandwich served with Raspberry Jam. I used to go to the one on the Butler Campus because if was close to my work. I was so sad that it closed. Now I go to one of the two on 86th street. When people come from out of town this is usually one of the places I take them. Their Tenderloin sandwich is also the bomb. Have only been twice....but will be going back for more! Their menu is great for all meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The first time I got the special of the day and it was around Thanksgiving. Some type of stuffing waffle. AMAZING! Second time I got biscuits and gravy. Was in need of comfort food and it hit the spot! To top it off they had key lime mints!
