Was looking for something good to eat it was in the evening, Saturday baby we came across a Diner like no other Diner! The atmosphere was great and entertaining, the staff was polite and welcoming. Now about the food the menu had great variety, you could have breakfast, lunch or dinner they have specials on the wall. I was enjoying myself so much, I couldn't take pictures so I went back yesterday and ate there again, just so I can show you what I was talking about. Breakfasted this morning with a gal friend. Food is great but be advised that portions are very large. You could easily split a meal with someone, even if you're a dude! I closely observed the serving of four entrees (our table and the one directly next to us). - Chicken and waffles: five stars. It's mountainous... in a picturesque way. They (literally) serve a half chicken with each portion and the waffle understructure is substantial. I hear it was delicious. - Mom's Omelet: 4.5 stars. Mushrooms, asparagus, chicken, and swiss. This is a plateful of deliciously-stuffed omelet + hashbrowns. I kind of wished there had been a little side of fruit with it to add a sweet element, but otherwise, it was a total winner. I ate half and took the other half home for later. - The Bissel Plate: 4 stars. Your standard "pancakes, eggs, meat, and toast" meal. Can't go wrong with it, but it's not unique -- except for the size which was, essentially, two plates FULL of food. - Fruity waffle: 4.5 stars. A bodacious helping of fluffy waffle topped with bananas and a variety of berries. The gal next to our table was rolling her eyes in delight with every mouthful and remarking upon its texture and flavor. Again... huge. Service: Very attentive. Waitress, manager, and additional staff members visited our table over the course of the meal to refill drinks, say hello, and ask about our experience... making for a pleasant atmosphere and a place where you know your patronage is valued. Went here today with my boyfriend and we loved it!! The menu is huge and they serve breakfast and lunch at the same time, so I liked that. Tracy was our server and she was very sweet and attentive to us. I got their house blend coffee and it was great! For breakfast my boyfriend got eggs, toast, pancakes, and grits and he ate it all, so he must've liked it! I got the cinnamon roll pancakes and holy cow they were sooo good. Got the chance to try this diner during their charity dinner. This night was also the restaurant's opportunity to train their staff before officially opening, which is a step I appreciate. The servers all seemed eager to learn, and the servers flown in from Florida were great. There was a bit of confusion with the service that resulted in lost drinks, but with twice the amount of staff running around, that was totally understandable. On to the food: we started with the shrimp and crab dip, a special on their menu. The flavor was amazing and there were actual chunks of seafood. The dip itself was a little bit on the salty side, but when spread on the provided bread, it tasted fine. For the entree, I got the chicken and waffles. Oh my goodness, it was a huge plate! Half a chicken with 4 waffles slathered in strawberry butter. The servers seemed to try making the spicy syrup the highlight of the dish, but the strawberry butter is what blew me away! The waffles were so fluffy and light, I know I'm coming back for them. The chicken was also delicious. My first piece was disappointing because the skin wasn't crispy, but the other 3 pieces were delightfully crispy. The flavor was spot-on and the meat was so juicy and flavorful that I wonder if they brine that chicken. My friend got the surf and turf eggs benedict, and it was also good. The ribeye benedict blew the crab cake benedict out of the water in my opinion (steak cooked almost perfectly medium rare), but the option of having both were exciting. Overall, great place to eat! They serve breakfast and lunch all day, I believe, so I can get those waffles any time the craving hits. I would honestly give 4.5 stars (come on, Yelp, just give us the option already) to this restaurant, but the sincere service really tipped my decision to 5 stars. First, let me start with the fact that Metro Diner started at a star deficit when I saw Guy Fieri's annoying Smashmouth hairdo looking at me from the menu. Strike one! Yes, one Metro Diner location had Guy visit for his show. Dang it, a chain! Strike two! Buuuut, the experience was very good. It's a typical diner experience, but a bit elevated. The staff is quick and friendly, the menu large and varied (both chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits are there along with a lot of standard fare), and the portions are not just big, but the food is yummy. My wife got a chipotle fish burrito that was delicious. Really, the chipotle sauce was worth licking off the plate. Though most of the entrees were $10 or more (or even $15 for the chix & waffles or shrimp n' grits mentioned), the portions are shareable and worth sharing. If you like diners, you'll like Metro. Just don't look at Guy too long or you'll lose your appetite. read more

We thought we'd give them a try for our early breakfast (8:30) on Sat. It's very accessible with ample parking. I love the décor w/retro black & white floors & the old soda fountain stools. We were greeted at the door by the manager opening it. We were seated immediately with menus & waiter to follow. They didn't offer different kinds of pancakes, (no whole grain options). --so with only one white flour batter, that was a strike. Hubster went ahead and ordered a short stack w/nuts inside. I ordered a waffle with fresh fruit but was very disappointed with the flavor. They also called it a Belgium waffle (which many places do) but it wasn't. The bacon was crisp but lacked flavor like the time you bought the cheap bacon instead of your favorite one. The scrambled eggs were so so. ** I did like their ham. It wasn't too salty & a good portion. I would say their food quality is equal to First Watch w/slightly higher prices. The prices are on the menu so I should have checked closer. I didn't see a combo of waffle eggs & meat, so I added a waffle not checking the price. (By the way FW does have a waffle egg & meat combo for 1 price.) When we saw the check total, we were a little surprised. -with coffee, hot tea, & a surcharge of $3 to put nuts in hubster's 2 pancakes. I pointed out to the server that the menu said 1.5. When he returned after removing it, he explained that it said almonds, walnuts, "or" pecans. I guess if you say nuts & they put all 3 in, you'd pay 4.50 for nuts in your 2 pancakes. I have to say, he was apologetic that we misunderstood. So watch for the add-ons. I always wish a new biz well, but am always honest.... I will try again for lunch sometime! If you're into big portions, interesting combinations, and needing a nap after your meal, then Metro Diner is a place for you. Since I'm into all of those things, I was super happy. I had the crab cakes eggs benedict. That needed to be its own sentence, so I'm gonna keep going down here. It was everything that you'd hope for it to be. The hollandaise sauce was perfect and didn't break and the pile of hash browns that came along with it hit the spot. The only complaint about the main dish was that the poached eggs were medium-hard, so I missed out on the yolkiness, but everything else was scrumptious. I also got a side of pancake, and that sucker was literally dinner plate sized. parts of it were hanging off of the plate! People we were there with (who I got to sample from) got the croissant french toast, pumpkin cheesecake, chicken and waffles, and my hubs had the shrimp and grits which was unlike any shrimp and grits I'd ever had. It was a fried grits cake with shrimp, sausage and all kinds of other deliciousness swimming in an amazing white sauce. I tend to stay away from chain or franchise restaurants but was lured into the Metro Diner on 82nd Street in Indianapolis's Clearwater neighborhood by the good things I read about it and its proximity to where I live. I'm truly glad that I gave it a try. The service is fast and friendly, the hearty portions of comfort food are delicious, and the prices are reasonable. On my first visit a couple of weeks ago I had a lunch of bacon-mushroom-swiss burger with onion rings. This morning I was back in for a breakfast of western omelet with fried potatoes and toast. My bias against chain restaurants notwithstanding, Metro Diner is a place I will definitely be going to again and again. read more

Yum! Everything on this menu sounded delicious! In addition to the plentiful breakfast and lunch menu there were multiple specials for the day too. I got the fried green tomato eggs Benedict and the person I was with got the chicken and waffles. Both were great. Big portions. Staff was great- friendly and personable, opened the door for us. We were there on a shift change and heard what must have been the manager telling everyone great job. I love breakfast like some people love their children. If I could have breakfast for every meal, I would be a very happy person. But I can't cook it for myself. My eggs are terrible, my potatoes are from the freezer section, and I hate buttering my own toast (I'm very lazy). All this to say that if I want tasty breakfast, which I always do, I have to go out. So I've eaten at a lot of breakfast joints. And Metro Diner is exceptional. We were there late Saturday morning, and though it was busy, we were seated right away and had our drink order taken. The coffee wasn't amazing, but not terrible either. Quantity over quality at a diner, am I right? Servers are still partnered with senior trainers and learning about the menu, but everyone was cheerful and stepping lively. While my husband considers biscuits and gravy the benchmark for all breakfasts, I like opting for the eggs/hashbrown/bacon/toast combo to see how a place does the standards. Both of us were very pleased with our orders. The hashbrowns were buttery (if not as crispy as the husband might have hoped) and presented in a pretty epic mound. I subbed in challah for the toast and this was a really, really good idea. If I work up the courage (and fast for a day ahead of time) I'll have to try their Yo Halla stuffed French toast -- it looks decadent. All in all, this is my favorite diner we've been to in Indy and I definitely expect to return for more of that sweet, sweet challah. read more

This place is the definition of Excellence! I went here on a recommendation and I'm glad I came. The staff was exceptional from entrance to exit! Our waiter Jamal (I think his name was) was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. He did his job without me having to ask for anything (extra napkins, refills, ect.) The food was beyond my expectations. We got our food in a timely manner and it was hot and fresh! The food was so good it made the other guest friendly one guy even ask for a taste of our food! lol (I didn't share but I did recommend he try it out) My husband has a thing for checking the restrooms before we eat and it met his standards lol. I went here for the first time on 9/4 and I have to say, I'm completely sold. The restaurant is very cute and maintains the "diner" atmosphere with the decor. I tried the chicken and waffles, and at first, the pricing kind of shocked me (around $16), but I'd heard such good things so I went ahead and ordered it. I was not disappointed! Serving size was well worth every penny and its reputation did not do it justice! I only waited around 5 minutes for my order and the service was great. I've visited this location twice, and both times left feeling underwhelmed. Like other reviewers have stated, this is NOT a true diner. It's basically just a standard American style restaurant with Diner in the name. You can't really call yourself a diner and close at 8pm during the week and 9pm on the weekends. My first visit I ordered the Meatloaf Plate, which was recommended by the waitress. While the flavor was good, it had to be the smallest portion of meatloaf I've ever received. Two extremely thin slices of meatloaf, barely the thickness of a sliced white bread. The service was good, although they had double the staff as each employee had a shadow they were training, so plenty of help for refills and things like that. On my second visit, I ordered the Vortex Burger which I had seen other Yelp reviewers post about and show off photos. Sadly, my experience seemed to be a little worse than others. The vortex burger is basically a 1/2 pound burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Somehow, amazingly, my top grilled cheese sandwich was made without cheese, and the bottom grilled cheese was flipped inside out, so that the cheese meant to be between the bread slices was actually stuck to the bottom of the burger. They clearly don't actually make grilled cheese sandwiches properly first and then create the burger, and instead just stack it all together and hope the cheese melts between two pieces of bread on the way to the table. It made the burger very dry with layers of bread to get through, so much so that I just ended up taking it apart and making a standard burger. Overall, I don't think this place justifies the somewhat high prices for what they serve. It's just very standard food without much character. If you're looking for a true diner experience, skip this one for now. read more

Ok how did I not know this existed here in town. I happened to be in this area and it was dinner time. After reviewing the options in my head I drove by the Metro Diner and decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. First I have been to the east coast diners in New York / Jersey. They seem to be everywhere. Indy doesn't really have those until I found this one. However, they have quite a few items you dont see too often like the shrimp and grits. Nonetheless, I wasn't super hungry so I decided to try there Reuben. I love Reubens so was happy to see what theirs was like. I was well done. The sandwich is made on rye bread and has pretty good corned beef in it. They throw in the obligatory sour kraut and will put the thousand isle dressing in it or on the side as I prefer. This comes with fries but decided to pay .50 more for a proper side salad. The salad here is quite large but very nice as well. There reuben is a nice size. I have had these in New York delis and you wont get a half pound or more of meat but that is usually overkill unless you want left overs. With the large side salad I still kept half the sandwich for lunch the next day. The staff were very friendly and even gave my daughter a to go box of candy when we left. I would highly recommend this location and will no doubt be returning to try breakfast next. read more

I have been to Metro Diner a handful of times and I am always satisfied. The portions are HUGE. I would suggest the peach tea if they have it, its very sweet, but I love it. Every time I have been the service has been great and the food has been better. I just found out they have a location on Butlers campus as well, I will be visiting this location next. read more
