Such a fun place! I love the hometown diner feel and environment inside this restaurant. We came here for dinner and loved every aspect of it. The service was fantastic and pretty fast. Our food was really good. My wife's burger was a little more pink than desired, and even though she did not say anything, the cook from the kitchen noticed it was not cooked fully so they did not charge us for it. My second visit here. Hubby had chicken and waffles both times. Leftover chicken both times. Their chicken is fried so fresh and served piping hot. First time I got the fried green tomato Benedict (hollandaise on the side. Quite tasty. yesterday I got the fish wrap with a side of coleslaw. It was Delish!! Fish was light. Nice chipotle ranch sauce. We sat at the bar and it was very entertaining. Man, not sure how they manage the chaos. Food is solid. Great value. I didn't see a combo of waffle eggs & meat, so I added a waffle not checking the price. (By the way FW does have a waffle egg & meat combo for 1 price.) When we saw the check total, we were a little surprised. -with coffee, hot tea, & a surcharge of $3 to put nuts in hubster's 2 pancakes. I pointed out to the server that the menu said 1.5. When he returned after removing it, he explained that it said almonds, walnuts, "or" pecans. I guess if you say nuts & they put all 3 in, you'd pay 4.50 for nuts in your 2 pancakes. I have to say, he was apologetic that we misunderstood. So watch for the add-ons. I always wish a new biz well, but am always honest.... I will try again for lunch sometime! Was looking for something good to eat it was in the evening, Saturday baby we came across a Diner like no other Diner! The atmosphere was great and entertaining, the staff was polite and welcoming. Now about the food the menu had great variety, you could have breakfast, lunch or dinner they have specials on the wall. Went here today with my boyfriend and we loved it!! The menu is huge and they serve breakfast and lunch at the same time, so I liked that. Tracy was our server and she was very sweet and attentive to us. I got their house blend coffee and it was great! For breakfast my boyfriend got eggs, toast, pancakes, and grits and he ate it all, so he must've liked it! I got the cinnamon roll pancakes and holy cow they were sooo good. I love breakfast like some people love their children. If I could have breakfast for every meal, I would be a very happy person. But I can't cook it for myself. My eggs are terrible, my potatoes are from the freezer section, and I hate buttering my own toast (I'm very lazy). All this to say that if I want tasty breakfast, which I always do, I have to go out. So I've eaten at a lot of breakfast joints. And Metro Diner is exceptional. We were there late Saturday morning, and though it was busy, we were seated right away and had our drink order taken. The coffee wasn't amazing, but not terrible either. Quantity over quality at a diner, am I right? Servers are still partnered with senior trainers and learning about the menu, but everyone was cheerful and stepping lively. While my husband considers biscuits and gravy the benchmark for all breakfasts, I like opting for the eggs/hashbrown/bacon/toast combo to see how a place does the standards. Both of us were very pleased with our orders. The hashbrowns were buttery (if not as crispy as the husband might have hoped) and presented in a pretty epic mound. I subbed in challah for the toast and this was a really, really good idea. If I work up the courage (and fast for a day ahead of time) I'll have to try their Yo Halla stuffed French toast -- it looks decadent. All in all, this is my favorite diner we've been to in Indy and I definitely expect to return for more of that sweet, sweet challah. read more

If you're into big portions, interesting combinations, and needing a nap after your meal, then Metro Diner is a place for you. Since I'm into all of those things, I was super happy. I had the crab cakes eggs benedict. That needed to be its own sentence, so I'm gonna keep going down here. It was everything that you'd hope for it to be. The hollandaise sauce was perfect and didn't break and the pile of hash browns that came along with it hit the spot. The only complaint about the main dish was that the poached eggs were medium-hard, so I missed out on the yolkiness, but everything else was scrumptious. I also got a side of pancake, and that sucker was literally dinner plate sized. parts of it were hanging off of the plate! People we were there with (who I got to sample from) got the croissant french toast, pumpkin cheesecake, chicken and waffles, and my hubs had the shrimp and grits which was unlike any shrimp and grits I'd ever had. It was a fried grits cake with shrimp, sausage and all kinds of other deliciousness swimming in an amazing white sauce. I tend to stay away from chain or franchise restaurants but was lured into the Metro Diner on 82nd Street in Indianapolis's Clearwater neighborhood by the good things I read about it and its proximity to where I live. I'm truly glad that I gave it a try. The service is fast and friendly, the hearty portions of comfort food are delicious, and the prices are reasonable. On my first visit a couple of weeks ago I had a lunch of bacon-mushroom-swiss burger with onion rings. This morning I was back in for a breakfast of western omelet with fried potatoes and toast. My bias against chain restaurants notwithstanding, Metro Diner is a place I will definitely be going to again and again. read more

This place is the definition of Excellence! I went here on a recommendation and I'm glad I came. The staff was exceptional from entrance to exit! Our waiter Jamal (I think his name was) was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. He did his job without me having to ask for anything (extra napkins, refills, ect.) The food was beyond my expectations. We got our food in a timely manner and it was hot and fresh! I went here for the first time on 9/4 and I have to say, I'm completely sold. The restaurant is very cute and maintains the "diner" atmosphere with the decor. I tried the chicken and waffles, and at first, the pricing kind of shocked me (around $16), but I'd heard such good things so I went ahead and ordered it. I was not disappointed! Serving size was well worth every penny and its reputation did not do it justice! I only waited around 5 minutes for my order and the service was great. I've visited this location twice, and both times left feeling underwhelmed. Like other reviewers have stated, this is NOT a true diner. It's basically just a standard American style restaurant with Diner in the name. You can't really call yourself a diner and close at 8pm during the week and 9pm on the weekends. My first visit I ordered the Meatloaf Plate, which was recommended by the waitress. While the flavor was good, it had to be the smallest portion of meatloaf I've ever received. Two extremely thin slices of meatloaf, barely the thickness of a sliced white bread. The service was good, although they had double the staff as each employee had a shadow they were training, so plenty of help for refills and things like that. On my second visit, I ordered the Vortex Burger which I had seen other Yelp reviewers post about and show off photos. Sadly, my experience seemed to be a little worse than others. The vortex burger is basically a 1/2 pound burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Somehow, amazingly, my top grilled cheese sandwich was made without cheese, and the bottom grilled cheese was flipped inside out, so that the cheese meant to be between the bread slices was actually stuck to the bottom of the burger. They clearly don't actually make grilled cheese sandwiches properly first and then create the burger, and instead just stack it all together and hope the cheese melts between two pieces of bread on the way to the table. It made the burger very dry with layers of bread to get through, so much so that I just ended up taking it apart and making a standard burger. Overall, I don't think this place justifies the somewhat high prices for what they serve. It's just very standard food without much character. If you're looking for a true diner experience, skip this one for now. read more

Ok how did I not know this existed here in town. I happened to be in this area and it was dinner time. After reviewing the options in my head I drove by the Metro Diner and decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. First I have been to the east coast diners in New York / Jersey. They seem to be everywhere. Indy doesn't really have those until I found this one. However, they have quite a few items you dont see too often like the shrimp and grits. Nonetheless, I wasn't super hungry so I decided to try there Reuben. I love Reubens so was happy to see what theirs was like. I was well done. The sandwich is made on rye bread and has pretty good corned beef in it. They throw in the obligatory sour kraut and will put the thousand isle dressing in it or on the side as I prefer. This comes with fries but decided to pay .50 more for a proper side salad. The salad here is quite large but very nice as well. There reuben is a nice size. I have had these in New York delis and you wont get a half pound or more of meat but that is usually overkill unless you want left overs. With the large side salad I still kept half the sandwich for lunch the next day. The staff were very friendly and even gave my daughter a to go box of candy when we left. I would highly recommend this location and will no doubt be returning to try breakfast next. read more
