Metro is mostly good if you eat in the restaurant but if you order delivery it's awful. There is something always left out of the order or food is not fresh. Their business model desperately needs provement. Even if the one eats at the restaurant there can be issues but are easily taken care of thru your waitress. I had one thing on my mind when i went here - chicken and waffles. The chicken was very moist and even the chicken breast, which is usually dry was moist (very surprising). The chicken, to me since i'm a very flavorful eater was a lil bland, but that was perfect because i could dip it into the syrup & hot sauce mix. Im a little bummed out. Usually we have a great experience here and food is always good. Today it was the opposite. We ordered cranberry juice then they come back to tell us they have none. So we order a mimosa, then they come back after leaving to tell us they don't have the juice for it. We never got the salad that was ordered, I had to ask for it to go at the end since we had paid for it. I had to ask out server for refills because she was not attentive of our soda and waters. My food was bland and the chicken had no flavor. My mother in Law's biscuits and gravy did not taste the way they usually do. (We order that a lot because we come here a lot so we know what to expect). When our bill was brought there were things on there we did not order. I'm pretty frustrated with my experience today. I had asked for a Togo cup to put my soda then I was told they didn't have any and the only available one was the kid cups. I had been to Metro Diner in Indiana prior to moving to Jax. As I walked into this location, I jokingly said, "Wow, this one has to be the original!" Well I was right, and it's even better than I remember! This location is quite small. I believe I was lucky to come in during a down time. As you'll see on Yelp's main picture, the star of the show in this place is the waffle with strawberry butter. I could write a whole novel about how incredible that stuff is. Since that's all I really wanted for dinner, I got the half waffle combo with strawberry butter. Of course the waffle was perfect. The bacon was surprisingly delicious and not the typical "breakfast place" bacon. My husband ordered the chicken & waffles, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. It's served with hot sauce & maple syrup which is combined in a dish and is intended to be used for dipping. I basically dipped everything of mine in it too, even though it's for the chicken! 6/7/18 Update: Been back twice more in the past 2 months and this place does not disappoint! Have had the Bissell Breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns, and pancakes) and the Metro Club. Well about 15 minutes later we were called, so the wait wasn't bad at all. And even with all these people the hostesses were very friendly and were very organized and able to update people of their wait times. Great job! When we actually walked into the place, as the hostesses greeted us outside, it was packed with both patrons and staff. So many people working here it was actually quite the production. Our server quickly took our drink orders and next out food. I got the Bold City Burger and my wife got the Philly Cheese Steak. Both were amazing and after I quickly scarfed down the burger, the waitress said she was surprised I finished it cause the portions are so big. Looking around, all the food looked amazing, specifically the chicken & waffles. Huge pieces of fried chicken with perfectly brown waffles. Looking at them I felt like I made a mistake with the burger, even thought it was also delicious, and will definitely be getting that next time!! The waffle was crispy and the butter was a added treat. My partner ordered the steak scrambler bowl but asked for the sauce in the side because we were unsure if the taste. It comes with a poached egg and crab cake on a toasted English muffin topped with hollandaise sauce. There are sides of various types of potatoes but I opted for fruit bowl for a 50 cent up charge. The crab cake tasted and smelled fishy and the hollandaise was meh. It was subpar in my opinion. Everything else was very good as far as you can rate a poached egg and an English muffin. The fruit bowl was fresh and delicious, it definitely made up for Crab Benedict! Parking is nonexistent as there are only 6 spaces available. We sat at the bar watching food prep and grill work. I asked my server for a suggestion and he insisted I order Shrimp and grits. He guaranteed my satisfaction. This was so good it was stupid. The grits were deep fried in a brick, then stacked on the plated surrounded by white sauce containing generous shrimp.Little did I know that one of the managing owners was working the grill. This place had excellent reviews and we decided to have breakfast here before we continue our travel home. I had the French Dip, which was pretty decent but not one that stood out in amazement. My friend had the Breakfast Pie and she loved it she made us try a piece and that was pretty awesome! Our other friend had the two eggs and choice of meat breakfast and that was a typical fill up. Our host Anastasia was very pleasant and professional, she checked in with us very often and offered to help with any questions. We were greeted with a smile, seated promptly & had an amazing server named, Thomas. I had been traveling all day so this was my first meal of the day. I removed the chorizo and added avocado last time, which was an awesome meatless option. I don't think I've ever had a bad breakfast/brunch there.
