Don't get in the way of productivity, and I'm so ok with that! We sat ourselves and within seconds our server Kim was over to ask about beverages. She was friendly and made suggestions to help us decide as we told her it was our first time in. I had the chicken and carrot cake waffle! Amazeballz! So yummy. My husband had the traditional 2by2 breakfast with grits. Mentioned that the grits needed a little more help, but overall everything was good. Kim came frequently to check on us and our coffee refills. We will most definitely return soon! read more

Sourdough breakfast sandwich extraordinaire oh yeah! Its huge I guarantee. Thankfully I had not had anything before coming here for this monster of a breakfasty goodness. Grilled sourdough bread, scrambled eggs, cheese, deli ham Craig Forster stopped by our table to check on us to see how our meal was today. Our server was Kayla and she was just delightful. Checking on us and bringing us extra napkins and a tea to go for me! It's hot in Florida. We spontaneously combust here. Tea to go is a must. Did I mention this monster sandwich??? OH YES I DID....Well my hubs was finished abd I was determined to keep on trudging along and to finish this crusty buttery good sandwich of delighfulness. Kayla came back to check on me and I said yes I am still working on it, she was so sweet, telling me to take my time, no rush. At one point I could no longer lick my fingers of the buttery goodness (actually the napkins were piling up) so I went for the knife and fork. Finally conquering my sandwich leaving just a little crusty edge. I knew right then and there this was going to be my only meal of the day. So good, so full, I'm not sure if I can move. Is there a nap after this? Satisfaction guaranteed especially if Kayla is your server. She is all smiles and gives you sound advice regarding the menu. This is a great small place for seating with some outdoor seating as well. They are quick with the food. Watching the cooks is like watching a well choreographed ballet. How that many people in such a small kitchen work so well together is amazing. I have had everything from breakfast, to fish and chips, to club sandwich and its all been good here. I usually cook Sunday Breakfast every Sunday but on this day I just didn't feel like it. So we ventured on down to Metro Diner. I've been meaning to get back here since a Yelp event over two years ago (SMH). Space and social distancing was not a problem at this location. I already knew what I wanted and I went for the gusto. The FULL order of Fried Chicken and Waffles with a side order of hashbrowns w/cheese, green peppers and onions. Game Damn Over. We went to this Metro diner yesterday for breakfast. Compared to other Metro diners is a bit smaller and there is not a lot of parking. But the service is great, the waitress we had was wonderful. We didn't have to ask for refills. She was right on top of it. The food was wonderful I ordered the country Benedict and it was really good. One of the first places we visited and fell in love with immediately. Our go to Metro Diner is on San Jose Blvd. Believe it or not I had never been to a Metro Diner. First impressions go along way with me, and our server was very nice and helpful when it came to recommendations. The manager came over to check in and we shared that we were having our first visit. When we check out after enjoying the hell out of our french toast and breakfast sandwich, the manager gave us coupon vouchers. Metro Diner is a fun place. You can get upscale, fancy breakfasts or just plain diner ones. Either way, the food is good. The coffee is delicious and served at the perfect temperature, hot but drinkable. The food is cooked to order and, in my experience, always perfect. This is the original diner and is well worn and loved. Lots of neat pictures on the wall. Plenty of staff working but we never feel rushed. Parking is awkward with a tiny lot and scary street spaces (especially during school hours). The diner is also bigger than it appears. Decided to give this location a second chance. Last week two ladies in the table next to me had a poor small dog in a sealed dog carrier. The poor thing looked like it had no idea where it was but the reason I left before even ordering was because I was bombarded by flies (seated inside). The server was nice, but I just didn't feel comfortable with so many flies buzzing around me so I left. Makes me wonder about how clean the place is. Today's experience was worse and giving them two stars is being generous. First it took longer than I liked to get someone to acknowledge my existence, but my server finally came. The server is definitely not cut out for that line of work because he all but demanded to know what I wanted, and I felt like I couldn't tell him what I wanted fast enough. I ordered a Classic Burger and modified it by getting Swiss cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms. I can only assume that they have chopped onions and bell peppers together already made so that's what the cook used. I hate sending food back but can't stand bell peppers. Apparently, they just scraped off the onions/bell peppers & mushrooms and just redid some onions & mushrooms and of course the onions were barely sautéed. Also, it looked like the onion rings had somehow gotten smashed but overall, the food was mostly edible. To top off the experience my server stopped by my table to drop off my bill at which time he took my almost empty ice water and never brought me more water even though I still had several bites left. I guess since it was after 2:30 and this location closes at 3:00pm they just wanted me to leave. That's okay though, I won't ever be inconveniencing this location with my business again. read more

This is the original Metro Diner from where a quickly rising chain was born. I had found this diner years ago and found it truly amazing, a hidden gem (that wouldn't stay so hidden). From this humble location they first spread through Jacksonville and than expanded throughout Florida and other states. With this expansion they sadly chose to streamline their menu and one of my favorites were not only taken off the menu, but ripped from my heart. This was a sandwich that was a pork lover"s dream come true, a breaded pork tenderloin with bacon and spinach. It was amazing. But I regress and drift away to the land of what once was, but shall never be again. Metro Diner has some great burgers and I also like their San Francisco Eggs Benedict, basically a regular eggs benedict, but with the addition of avocado and tomato (since I am not a fan of tomato, mine just comes with avocado). I am sure the Metro Diner will continue to grow, it will find it's way to more locations in more states, but here was the original. The original is a humble spot compared to the other locations, with tight parking and a small, honestly kind of run down exterior, but it is the food that matters and here they deliver. read more

Truly "where the locals go!" I've grew up in Jacksonville and 25 years later I am still coming back here! I've been to multiple of their locations, but I believe this is the original one and honestly the one with the best food. I love the cute small diner feel and we sat in the outside patio which is first come first serve. We did not even have to wait even though it was Saturday around 12pm. We ordered coffees with their famous fried chicken and waffles. The fried chicken and waffles is AMAZING! Comes with a half chicken (one wing, thigh, breast, and drumstick). They pour you a dish of hot sauce and maple syrup that is phenomenal even though it sounds simple and they have strawberry butter for the waffles. My second favorite thing here that I didn't order this time is the Yo Hala! It is very sweet and decadent so I typically can't finish it but it tastes SOOO GOOD! I've tried a few other things on their menu in the past that were just good/okay, but the two dishes above are stellar and deserving of the five star rating! Also our waiter, Kyle, today was phenomenal! Fast service, kept our coffee full, was super friendly, and even gave me a free coffee refill to go! Metro Diner surely knows how to treat a man like a real lady. Surprisingly, Saturday was my first visit to the OG location, as I normally frequent the Jax Beach store. The San Marco restaurant is quaint and the staff unashamedly personable. The open kitchen is a site to see and although it can be chaotic, they consistently deliver on big portions and big flavors! Can I be frank? I think people are too hard on Metro Diner. Whether you like it or not, when you think Jacksonville, Metro Diner comes to mind. Yeah, they're expanding like wildfire. So, what? That means they're doing something right! I've always received my bang for my buck at every location. Specific to Saturday's brunch feast, the Mom's Omelette had my belly feeling all warm and fuzzy. Chicken, asparagus, and hollandaise might be a quirky combination, but the flavors gel together wonderfully. This diner is the best diner ever. The place is clean, the food is amazing, the service is quick and courteous, the food is good (Oh! Yes, I said that already). Whenever I visit or drive by Jacksonville, I always make it a point to stop here, almost religiously. Anything on the menu is such a gratifying experience that I sincerely recommend everything at this diner. As of lately, or the past few years, I have stuck to the chicken and waffles, which are honestly one of the best ones I have tried on the East Coast (USA, not just Florida). I either get a full portion or a half portion, which is a good thing if you want to try something else, or if you watch your weight. Also, any of the French Toasts are amazing, and last but not least, the pancakes. They have such a special flavor that it's only found here at Metro Diner. As every other diner, the coffee is bitter and strong, which is on the more traditional current, since coffee is also a tool to wake you up and get you going. But unlike a lot of diners, the food here is divine. Now, this location in Hendricks is the original location, and this place is very successful, so they have branched out through out Jacksonville, and have made it as far as the Altamonte Springs area in Orlando, FL (this location is on fire, btw). Finding a seat is not as challenging as it used to be, thanks to the new locations, but you may want to be prepared for a little wait. Place was packed when we arrived Thursday for lunch. This is always a good sign. The wait wasn't long, 10-15 minutes, we were told, and the estimate was spot on. We are greeted by a server that was a table turning expert. You'll know them when you see them, those that check on you every 30 seconds to see if you're ready to order, only to tell you to take your time and there's no rush. They also drop the check in your table two thirds of the way through your meal, and again, invite you to take all the time you need. We had one of these for this visit. As far as food goes, it was good, but nothing like the ginormous portions you were on the menu or in Yelp photos. Either everything was taken with a fisheye lens or they changed some things before we arrived. Not a bad thing, as the portions were appropriate, but I'm glad we ordered a meal each versus the proposed sharing of meals. It was a solid experience. We had a group of 6 so we had to wait a bit not terrible for Gate River Run Day. We were seated in the back and promptly our server came to take our drink order and returned swiftly with our drinks ready to take our order. I went for huevos rancheros.
