The Metro is the best Breakfast/Brunch stop in Jacksonville Hands Down! The Eggs Benedict it the best I've had and the atmosphere and service here are great. It worth the extra coin for the extra goodies in the hash browns, we do onion and cheese & that takes them to another level. This was only our 3rd time going to Metro Diner and our 1st time going for lunch. It was awesome. I got the pot roast, my youngest daughter got the chicken pot pie, my oldest daughter got the meatloaf and my husband got the Chipolte fish wrap. Saw the episode of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives featuring Metro Dinner. After the long wait, we were pretty disappointed with the food. The Pound Cake French Toast was mushy in the inside and pretty bland. The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was over poached. Probably a good place when you're there at the right time. Great experience- went on a Tuesday so we were able to get a table right away. We sat outside and didn't feel crowded as some other reviewers have complained about. I had the crabcake eggs benedict and it was really tasty. I added some hot sauce to give the sauce a punch. At our table we also had the steak and eggs and the Huevos Ranchero. Although Metro Diner has nice food, I really cannot understand what all the fuss is about. I have eaten here about a dozen times and would say it was good food each time, but NOT worth waiting 45 min for a table good. I am not much for breakfast food but have to say that versus a chain option, the food here is much better. I also really enjoy that they serve lunch all day and generally have meatloaf for breakfast. (Their meatloaf is really good). The portions are large and the prices are fair. Parking is a NIGHTMARE, be prepared to park just about on someone's front lawn and walk and I would recommend going on a weekday if you are in any sort of a hurry at all. read more

I've visited Metro Diner twice with a friend after he recommended it a lot when I came to Jacksonville. My review is: -The staff was nice and friendly as many restaurants in Jax, I like them. 7/10 -The area where the restaurant is located is also nice with plenty of parking lots around.7/10 -The restaurant size area is not that good, everything is tight and the waiters don't feel free when walk and serve. 4/10 -The smell is the worst thing in the restaurant, a strong cooking oil smell all around and you have to change your clothes after that, because it will stick on you the whole day. 2/10 - The food is good but not amazing as my friend told me, so when you go don't put high expectations. 7/10 overall it was a good restaurant and I am welling to go again. read more

I recently visited the Metro on Southside blvd and I have to say the food, service and atmosphere was fantastic! It was our first time and we were nervous it wouldn't live up to the hype. We drove from Georgia on College football day to try Metro Diner and I can honestly say the drive and wait were more than worth it. We had Miss Shanda as our server and I have never had a more funny or happier server. Her energy was contagious! I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. We went today and had the chicken and waffles for the the first time and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious! The fried chicken was cooked perfectly, it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waitress mixed a bowl of syrup and Louisiana Hot Sauce at the table to dip the chicken in and it was to die for!!!! Service here has always been fantastic, I've probably eaten here 100+ times over the past 4 years since moving to the San Marco area, however the food quality has taken a hit in the past 6-12 months. The interesting thing is the other metro's that I visit(baymeadows and julington creek) still have awesome food, in fact the baymeadows location started a little slow and then got really dialed in around the same time this one started falling off. Perhaps some of the Hendricks cooks went to baymeadows? Anytime I've mentioned an issue with the food they always go above and beyond to try to correct it and I feel bad even saying anything so for the most part I just stopped visiting this location, I'm sure eventually they will find some new awesome cooks to match the great customer service they have always had and I'll keep coming in every few months to see how that's going. read more

Everyone was really welcoming and friendly. Service was super fast once inside. Large parties 8+ may have a wait depending on the time of day. My whole family enjoyed the food and I have kids that are very picky. If you are hungry come here because they pile on the food. I had chicken and waffles which was other-worldly. The chicken was hot and juicy and perfectly complement the waffles. Then their strawberry butter and sweet and hot sauce topped the meal off. This place has been featured on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins like 3 times. I was in town on business and a local buddy suggested it despite it probably being swamped. It was - they were on a 20-minute wait and the sun was blistering. There is a little awning on the side of the building with benches for shade. There is outside seating that is first come, first served, but given the heat, we waited for an inside table. I had the reuben with home made potato chips, both of which were perfect in every way. The thousand island dressing had chunks of hardboiled egg, which I hadn't expected, but it was good nonetheless. My buddy got the chicken and waffles, which looked phenomenal - they make a little spicy syrup for the waffle right at your table. My other friend had the fish and chips, and I have never seen fried fish better prepared at a restaurant - cooked exactly to the right mix of crispy and soft.
