Incredible food and coffee! As soon as you enter, the atmosphere is welcoming and the waiters/waitresses are super kind and caring. Recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to sit and enjoy their meal. It's location is a bit hidden, but I believe it helps with making sure the restaurant isn't overflowed (however, it's still somewhat packed with satisfied customers which tells you that this establishment is doing something right). Overall great experience and I would definitely recommend coming back for a second time! read more

The one and only. This place is the only place in Jacksonville you can get breakfast made with love, sweat and tears. Plan on waiting outside for a table for two hours if you come on a weekend. My advice, everyone get something different and get extra plates eat it like you would Sunday diner. trust me you will want to taste everything. But don't even attempt to count calories, ( you cat count that high) try the classic Yo' halla french toast or my favorite Benedict Florentine. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended. This particular location is under new management (Craig Foster) and it's obvious by the exceptional service he provided throughout our visit. When I arrived he greeted my family promptly and he also came to check on our party of 9 at the end of our breakfast. Our server was not attentive, in fact she was almost neglectful, but Craig's customer service made the difference. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken didn't have the best taste but the waffles were outstanding! We actually chose this location for breakfast for both mornings during our vacation in Jacksonville. read more

This restaurant is. A. GEM. The service was incredible! I love the atmosphere and the staff are all so friendly. This is the original location and a lot of the customers have been coming here for years. The servers will give you a hug when you leave and are so so sweet. I had the legendary chicken and waffles. I am blown away with this place! I am visiting the area; my brother suggested Metro Diner because he had seen it on the Food Network. Metro Diner did not disappoint. With a vast menu from brunch chicken and waffles to Turkey Pot Pie, sandwiches, soups, I couldn't decide but finally chose the chicken salad. Delicious! My brother had pot roast that he looked like he was cherishing every bite. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. It has been a very long time since I've taken the time to comment and compliment a resturant in this town. I must say that the service was fast, the food was hot and great, the choices on menu amazing, and the atmosphere that of a friendly neighborhood diner. Would have liked to try this quaint corner cafe, however no parking anywhere, and only spots to park are for 1 hour. Probably need to let people know parking is very very limited so we don't drive out of the way only to be turned away due to lack of accommodations. read more

It is right by a church so if you are trying to get Sunday breakfast or brunch, you better get there early. The parking is limited and you could end up parking down a residential street and walking. As you can see in the picture there is always a line to get in. Good sign right??? Food: I went with the Charleston Shrimp and Grits $13.99 and the wife went with the Biscuits and Gravy $9.99. The shrimp and grits were a modern take on the traditional dish, the grits were fried in a square pattern with some type of seasoning in them to turn them an orange color. Around the grits was a healthy crème sauce with sausage, green onions, bacon and of course SHRIMP! I absolutely loved mine. The portion was huge, the flavors were bordering a little rich but that is how I like it. The bacon added a nice salty crunch to it. I'm a big guy and it was hard to eat all this but you know when you get to the point where you say "there isn't enough to bother taking home" and just push through it and polish it off. Even if it does make you sweat and look like a pig, it's worth it with this dish. Now, on the other hand, the wife got the southern staple: Biscuits and Gravy. We both agreed, the biscuits were overdone and the gravy was lacking in the spices. She's from Baton Rouge but even I (Middleburg boy) thought it needed a little something. The side of eggs were .... well, eggs. The hash browns were a miss. While it is a huge portion, they were almost too big, they weren't crispy all around. The center was very mushy. Actually she had to get a new order because the first one came out with some cold spots in it. Not room temperature, cold. Anyways, the portions are huge and the prices reflect it. Still worth it though. Well mine was...the wife...not so much lol. Extra Info: This place has a huge following in Jacksonville. There is always a line, so don't expect it to be like iHOP. You have to wait for good food. Ever since their appearance on Diner, Drive-In and Dives the place has taken off like wildfire. They now have 3 locations, one in San Marco, one in Mandarin and one out at the Beaches that just opened up. Overall rating 1-10: 8.5 for now. They hit on my breakfast yet missed on the wife's. Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning outside. The Huevos Rancheros were absolutely the best I've ever had. Each bite gave me just a bit more than the last, adding layered ingredient after layered ingredient. The generously large tortilla chips were light, crispy but not too crunchy and provided the perfect method for excavation. All ingredients were fresh and flavorful. My only complaint is that I wasn't made aware of the specials that day, and if I had, I would have ordered one or two of the three that were listed. The price was good and my mouth is watering right now, just thinking about what else they have to offer. I had no idea this diner was on D3. It was just well reviewed, had a really good looking menu and was the right price and distance from our hotel. We'll definitely be back or at least we'll try one of the other Metro's in the region - maybe at Palm Coast. read more

People visiting Jacksonville are always urged to visit Metro Diner, perhaps because the restaurant garnered national attention a few years ago when it appeared on Food Network's Diner's, Drive-ins and dives. Metro Diner's appearance on that show was not a fluke; the food is fantastic. A lot of Jacksonville natives like Metro because the portions there are enormous. Again, Metro is not a place to grab a quick, small snack. You should go there only if you're starving and can eat most of the food. Breakfast is the best food there, but I've always sat there and ordered the shrimp and grits. Here are the only two negatives to Metro Diner. First, knowing how popular and successful the place has become, I'm concerned about how the ownership is still OK with having such a tiny, tiny location. I mean, it's shoulder to shoulder in there. Might be time to expand. The other knock is the outdoor dining area, which is basically the corner of a residential street and busy Hendricks Avenue. The parking is somewhat of a pain as well, but that has little to do with the food or the dining experience. Overall, it's a great spot. read more

My favorite diner and one of my all time favorite restaurants. Not counting the time my daughter got sick there (not Metro's fault!) or the time my wife forgot to leave a tip (sorry!) This place was amazing! We went here on a recommendation from a friend of a co-worker and we were not disappointed. The staff were all super friendly and appeared as if they all genuinely enjoyed working there. One of the specials they had for the day was a stuffing waffle topped with mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy with a side of cranberry sauce. Just left Kitchen on San Marco because they wouldn't scramble an egg to come to our Most Favorite Place in the World--Metro Diner on Hendricks Avenue. Our server, Whitney, was amazing! We thought we'd try "the new place," but now know not to ever do that again. I got the eggs benedict with hash browns (as I always do), and my daughter selected the hash, eggs (normally serve poached but happily scrambled just for her), and toast with a side of fruit. Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere is oh-so-diner--lots of happy people enjoying good food and life. read more

I've lived in J-ville for going on 17 years, but it wasn't until I saw Metro Diner on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives that I finally visited. My eating companion and I tried most of what was seen on the show, and we were not disappointed! She had the meatloaf and let me tell you it is out of this world delicious. I had the Yo Hala (cheese-stuffed french toast covered in a warm berry compote) and it made me wanna HOLLA for real. The place was bustling, as I'm told it usually is, but we got right in to a nice table towards the back. It was moderately priced but the food was good, so no complaints there.
