Love this place! I am gluten free and they will work very hard to get it right! Friendly staff and great food!

Our Ohio friends who were staying in Venice, Florida took us to this local diner there. The moment I walked in the diner, I was impressed. The front desk was very friendly and pleasant and the place was packed. There was a server who was taking drink orders while we waited the 20 minutes. The Bloody Mary's were the BEST I have ever tasted. It had bacon, green olives and a wonderful taste and reasonable as well - $4.99 a piece. When we were seated, the server, Christy came up to our table immediately - no wait. I was so impressed since it was so crowded and most tables were full. Christy met our needs without being bothersome. The food was delicious. I ordered the Protein breakfast and it was very tasty. Hats off to the owner/owners and their staff. We had a great first experience here today for a late breakfast. I got the spicy honey chicken biscuit and a couple scrambled eggs. Wife got the usual two eggs over easy, with toast and bacon. Service was spectacular. Met the manager Rich and had a nice conversation about family and moving to the area. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh menu with some interesting dishes as well as the old staples. We will go back for sure. read more

Food was average, don't expect "diner food" if you're from up north though. Very disorganized staff, we had 3 different servers. Someone was sweeping under our table and stocking the little basket while we were eating. We were bothered by employees our entire meal and then waited almost 10 minutes for a check because it was "change of shift". Went to Metro Diner last night and ordered a simple BLT. It was... how do I say it? Awful. The bacon was so overcooked- literally burned to a crisp- that when I took off the bread and looked into the sandwich, it was broken into such small pieces I doubted they'd even used bacon strips; I thought they'd scraped all the pieces of broken bacon bits from other uses and dumped them on my sandwich. Tomato? Seriously, sliced so thin it could not be tasted. The one thin piece of head lettuce on each side of the sandwich didn't even reach to the crust of the bread. Maybe they were running out of lettuce and had to skimp on it? Overall, it should not be that hard to make this sandwich. Just sayin'. If you like BLTs, don't go here for that. On the plus side, our server was delightful. read more

We figured this place must be great because the parking lot was always packed so we tried it for breakfast recently. I ordered the ''Mexican omelet'' and it was terrible. It was huge but with a lot of tasteless (cold) salsa on top and the eggs tasted like they came from a carton. The portion of potatoes was also huge but these were cold and tasteless. I will admit the biscuit was okay. So if you want a LOT of food give it a try but do not expect excellent food. I will stick to Peach's where the food taste like homemade and great!! read more

Food is very consistent and is typical chain diner fare, but what really sets this location apart is the service. Food quality is average but prepared well for what it is. Portions are big on most items. Try the pancakes - the syrup is like candy. The waitress we had tonight was incredibly attentive and was very sweet. The manager came over twice to make sure our food was satisfactory and made a point to wave when we left. The host was also very good, and he made a point of sharing the specials when he sat us at our booth rather than just dumping us there and leaving. Really good experience all around. On a previous visit, when a malfunction of the payment system made payment take a long time, a different manager actually chased after us to give us a coupon for our next visit to make up for the inconvenience. You can tell that this place has a positive work atmosphere and the staff really cares. That's what sets it apart, and it is a huge achievement. They are also crazy efficient at swapping out different options and customizing the entrees. You truly get exactly what you want which is great. A couple recommendations... the dining room is often quite cold so bring a sweater. I also wish they would add milkshakes - kind of odd for a diner not to have them but its that way across the entire chain. read more

Wanted to share this new jewel. Got there for breakfast around 730 and was seated immediately. It was amazing (chicken strips and waffles) with this wonderful strawberry butter. I love that I can get a burger and fries at breakfast if I want! Ask for Doreen as your server. She never stops and your drinks will never run out. read more

Metro does a great job with Comfort Style food. Due to location, reputation and friendliness, it makes for a long wait during Florida 'season' -Oct-April - i enjoy many a good meals here when the Winter birds head home. read more

Our server was the ONLY reason I didn't walk out: she was sweet and attentive. As far as the food -- as my mom said, "It's a diner; what do you expect." True enough. But the 6-8 staff standing in front of the food line (which was inches from my table) was poor management. Only one runner is necessary -- move your jabber elsewhere. But the straw that broke the camel's back was spraying the stool bases with cleaner spray within feet on my food. I smelled the cleaner fluid and promptly told them to stop. That should ONLY be done when guests / food are NOT the restaurant. Read the health department regulations. Besides, it's just plain rude and disgusting. read more

I have been to Metro Diner probably 4 times. The service is always outstanding! I would probably eat here more often if they offered healthier options over comfort food. I feel like most meals here are super high in calories and fat. I enjoy healthy salads without fried chicken. If you are in the mood for comfort food then this is the place to go. Portions are huge and the food is good. All restaurants should offer this kind of service! read more

Oh my goodness! The best accident I have had in a while! Absolutely everything was scrumptious and the service was spot on! Wide selection. Sour dough toast was the best ever :) I had the strawberry cream cheese crepes and they were wonderful! Hubby had a Belgian waffle with berries on top and hash browns, eggs, bacon, and toast. 7/11/20 we met a few people for breakfast at Metro Diner in Venice, FL. Very friendly and welcoming staff, all wearing masks and aware to seat us a safe distance from the other customers. The server asked if we would like to look at the menu while waiting for the remainder of our party. Sure....so she hands us ONE paper menu. I mentioned we both needed menus and she told us they are only giving out one. I asked why...she seemed to think the cost required then to only give one. I was quite annoyed. I asked her If, in the office, was there a copy machine? We didn't need the one printed in color on better paper. Her response was, there is a scan code on the table and you can scan it and see the menu. Next...and now, because I am very aware of this disposable menu and not it is a priority to me, I watched closely. A single man came in, they handed him a menu, he ordered and guess what......That menu went back on the top of the stack of paper menus waiting to be handed out to the next customer. Aggravated now, I told her she needed to tell her manager this whole scene was unacceptable. They can't give out more than one menu but...they can return that to a pile for another customer???? If not her manager, I would be letting "someone" know. Of course, not long after a manager came to our table and apologized. He said was brand new...his first day and he was not aware of this. He would be sure no menus were returned to the pile. I am assuming, at this point that customers will still only be allowed a minimum of menus. Also, and I might not be accurate on this but, I think, a few weeks ago at the same diner.....the same manager, being a very friendly was going around the restaurant introducing himself and making sure there were no problems. As I said, I could be wrong but I don't think he was new and this was his first day. Not that I expected it but, no adjustments were made. I believe I would have a very difficult time returning to that location and all the Metro Diners, if they have the same procedure regarding their menus...they need to consider changing immediately. If you're looking for linen tablecloths and china, don't go here. if you want friendly service good food nd a nice diner atmosphere, you're in the right place! I have dined in and (called in) carried out. Both have always been excellent. Also i have have been to the one in Carmel, IN 5 or 6 times (moved into the are 3 months ago). Never disappointed. Thought I would try the one in Venice, FL (visiting friends). Equally impressed. Come hungry, portions are sharable. I try different menu items each time I go in, so I don't have a recommendation. Don't bother with this restaurant, your money is best spent elsewhere. I have given them three chances mediocre food at best, seems like most things may come out of a can and or are frozen. For $10 plus tax plus a tip equals $14 for a pot pie. It came with mixed vegetables bits of chicken on a plate and a grilled flatbread on top that was it no bottom crust no top crust it's something that a six-year-old would have made. The French dip was grisly , greasy, and halfway cold. The eggs Benedict had about a tablespoon of hollandaise sauce on it, eggs were overcooked and English muffins were barely toasted again something a six-year-old could have made. read more

Our last visit brought a young lady who was full of cheer and made suggestions to save us money. Speedy delivery of our order is always great. Food here was tepid. Eggs Benedict was sent back. Avocado was not ripe and the ham tomato combo was chewy.

Hostess seated us immediately and had a thorough explanation regarding the specials. She was more than cordial. Our service and food was also very good. Our only issue is a better job needs to be done in regards to an overall bathroom check, doors need to be windexed and tables should be wiped down with a cleaner as well as a rag. First time at Metro Diner. Came here with my mother (who has a mushroom allergy), and she specifically told the waiter about this before ordering. Waiter Cory was incredibly kind and took note and specifically told the chefs. Mom's order comes out, she takes a few bites, finds a mushroom. We pick them out in order to show the staff, and a manager comes by and doesn't believe us which was awkward and uncomfortable, because all we wanted was the correct order. We didn't make a big deal, but it's an allergy & not just a mere preference. Younger staff is incredibly kind, but what an awkward experience for unseasoned food. read more

This is a great place for comfort food. Breakfast is amazing. I particularly enjoyed the Meat Lovers Omelette. The filling was extremely generous and tasty. The eggs were fluffy and perfectly cooked. My wife had the fried shrimp special. Portions were generous, but the shrimp was over cooked. Both her French Fries and my hash browns were well cooked, but had an 'off' flavor. I suspect that the potatoes were cooked in oil that had been used to cook fish or shrimp. Prices were a little high but you will not leave hungry. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The diner was clean and decorated as would be expected of a classic American diner. We have previous had other meals here and service has consistently been superior and the food well made with generous portions. If it were not for the off taste of the potatoes and the high prices, I would gladly update this to a five star review. read more

My friend and I popped in this restaurant for the most gluttonous cheat meal we could think of having. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted promptly and sat down. Our server told us the specials and we perused the menu. We opted for the most unhealthy things we could find on the menu, so I ordered the chicken pot pie and my friend had the chicken and waffles. Of course, we ordered diet cokes to go with it. Our food arrived quickly and I don't have any complaints about the service, but the waffles were a bit overdone and my potpie was quite smaller than I thought it would be. Had the potpie been a bit bigger and the waffles a little lighter brown, I would have given a five star review. Despite these things, I would go back... I might just order two potpies next time. read more

My husband and I have been to this diner since they opened. We have tried different meals and have been very satisfied. The meals are always hot and delicious. They give you plenty. We love the help, always smiling and check on us frequently and make sure we don't need anything. We love the fact that they serve breakfast all day. Their pot pie is delicious and if you want to pay a dollar more you can have the bigger size. It's our favorite place to eat! We highly recommend this diner. They deserve five stars. . Went here for lunch at 1:40, had one gentleman in front of me. The hostess was seating a couple. Several people came in behind me. We were waiting for someone to take our names or to seat us. After waiting about 5 minutes or so manager comes out of the back. Older gentlemen comes in from side entrance and walks up to manager to give him his name. I made the comment that my husband and I had been there first. Manager had a hateful attitude and snapped at me. He acted like I was in the wrong. He was very hateful. He finally took my name. He then asked who was next something he should have done at first. My husband and decided to leave since the manager was so hateful. As we were leaving he called my name. My husband told him forget it. We weren't going to eat somewhere where the manager was so disrespectful of the customers. We went there for dinner last night and it was great. I ordered the pot pie and my husband had the buffalo chicken salad. Both were delicious. We enjoyed it so much we went back again for breakfast this morning and it was not as good. Our order was screwed up not once but twice. The guy bringing our food was apologetic and said a new manager started this morning. Not really a big deal as we were hungry. Out toast didn't have any butter on it. I didn't specifically ask for butter I just assumed it would be buttered. We didn't bother returning it a third time. Hopefully this was just an "off" morning.
