Everyone there always has a smile and friendly. I had the beef tips which tasted great. My other half had Charleston shrimp & grits which he said were out of this world. Of all the Metro Diners I have tried, this is by far my very favorite one. The employees are a great team, and are extremely well trained. My wife and I arrived at Metro Diner around 1:00 this afternoon, waited several minutes to be seated in a half-full restaurant and were finally escorted to our table. I ordered a cheeseburger with a side Caesar salad and my wife ordered traditional eggs Benedict. Our ONLY request was that my salad be served first. We waited at least 15 minutes, at times with no servers in sight, and had a clear view of our order just sitting under the warmer. When our server finally got around to bringing our food, everything was lukewarm and my salad was still sitting on the counter. Had the food been tasty, we could have gotten past the lousy service and lukewarm temperature. However, my cheeseburger was basically tasteless and my wife had trouble even cutting the English muffins used in her eggs Benedict. We've been down here since December and this was EASILY the worst lunch we've had. read more

Nice to have a new place in town. That being said the newness wears off after a while, even with this fact the Metro Diner folks do a great job . No place is perfect and mistakes will be made. I wonder if some of the previous reviews take that into account. It's not the mistake but how Metro handles it and this is where they shine. Their goal is to make things right or if needed fix it. We have had great dining experiences ever since it opened so no complaints from us. I know for certain that owner Rich, who is frequently present, will go out of his way to make any diners experience one that will have them coming back. What a difference a year makes. I've got to cut them some slack, as the last 12 months have been pretty tough on restaurants, but there's a reason this place is empty compared to last year. The first problem is, the menu has been drastically cut. It's just not very inspiring. I ordered the meat loaf dinner, and I probably should have sent it back. It was not that good. The gravy was funky tasting, so I scraped it off. Thankfully, there wasn't much on it. My wife had a chicken breast dinner and she enjoyed it. This went from a favorite to a one-and-done. Today was a said day for me. I have been a frequent customer for about a year and a half and spend about $5000.00 a year on breakfast at the Venice Metro Dinner. The reason I eat there is because until today (menu change) they served honest not over seasoned food. I typically order the eggs Benedict with hash brown potatoes. Unfortunately they now season the potatoes with a seasoned blend that for me was inedible. The Hollandaise sauce tasted like flour water and salt so definitely now made from a dry package with water added. Everything was very over seasoned and it will most likely continue that way with their new menu. The waitstaff is absolutely wonderful and I felt welcome every morning I walked I into the Metro D. I'll miss the servers as much as the real food. Another almost real deal diner has gone extinct in Venice FL. read more

This is our 3rd or 4th time here. Great food, pleasant atmosphere, Disney level of customer service!!! My wife ordered a meal that she didn't care for. She's very, very picky. I ordered the same meal and loved it. She chose not to eat it. I'm taking it home for tomorrow. Corey, our server, came over, I explained the situation and asked to order my wife another breakfast. We had full intention to pay for the meal we didn't like and the replacement meal. This was our fault, not the restaurant. Rich, the manager, walked by and asked if there was an issue. We explained the situation. He immediately said that he'd remove the first meal from the bill and replace it. He insisted at my protest. This was our fault and nothing of Metro Diner. Beer selection was a limited (that said, they should drop unfamiliar, craft beers which confuse the offerings). The included sides of soup/salad were beyond expectation. Burgers were very good, but med/rare served medium for both orders. Food comes out quickly.
