After reading the Mother's Day reviews, I was nervous going here! Location: I have been going to Safeway, Bank of America and Whole Foods in this plaza since 2019 ...and just discovered that "Metro" is a restaurant! They really need to improve their signage! Or name. The facade from the parking lot is no inviting. The place is quite large with an enormous bar, but it was barely 10-20% full.. Six of us had lunch there. Sat outdoors under the umbrellas on a warm sunny day. Ordered beers, salads and burgers to share. Our server, Roger, is new but did an excellent job. The kitchen also did a good job with the differing burger temperatures and different cheeses. BTW the side of mustard was really delicious and appreciated! Unfortunately, there was no "wow" factor that deserved a fifth star. Lack of management supervision - or support - was obvious. Overall, felt that the restaurant wasn't living up to its potential. read more

The setting is lovely. The patio area is really pretty with lots of natural greenery, despite being right off the main road of Mt. Diablo Blvd. The staff were excellent, very attentive and professional. We had a large party for brunch on a Sunday. We were shocked to see we were practically the only people there. I enjoyed my food which was a salad. The rest of my party all complained that their dishes tasted bland and super basic or came out cold. I guess with mine being a salad I didn't have that complaint. We also had espresso drinks which weren't good. Mocktails, cocktails were just ok. I'm not really sure what happened. This place has the makings of a great restaurant. We came here 15 years ago for Valentine's Day and they were understaffed and the night was a bit of a disaster for us. Our food came out cold and an hour apart. It was the last time we've ever bothered with eating out on Valentine's Day. We figured it was just a tough night for restaurants. But, this experience was sort of similar enough that I don't know if we'll be back this time. I really wanted to give them a chance. The kitchen seems far from the dining room and maybe that's part of why it's so difficult. I cannot recommend this spot, based on our only 2 experiences. But I do hope they can figure out a way to manage their kitchen and introduce more flavorful dishes. It would be a really great spot if they did. read more

Our extended family typically comes here for brunch as it takes both reservations and does brunch but that's unlikely to continue after today. We booked a party of 9 for Mothers Day brunch and the place was absolutely slammed. The manager who sat us basically disappeared for the next four hours leaving the staff to deal with all the problems. To begin with for Mother's Day there's a price fixed menu. The first course was biscuits which took over thirty minutes to come. When it did come there were no plates and we had to request and wait another 15 minutes for that. Our entrees didn't come until over two hours later and two people didn't get theirs until much later after the rest of the party had finished their entrees. This left those two in the awkward position of rushing through their food. The waiter asked how it was and the answer is basically tasteless as we were focused on just catching up to the rest of the party. Once we got past the three hour mark waiting on dessert. Most of the guest left which worked out for them. Only half the desserts came out. We told the staff to not bother with the rest and we would take the cake they brought out to go. They took the cake and it basically disappeared as the last three people ate ice cream and waiting to pay over another thirty minutes. When the bill came they overcharged us by adding an extra guest to the menu. Nothing was comped. At a minimum I would have expected the drinks to be as they charged us for sodas as some folks declined the already paid for cocktails in the fixed menu. At best I would expect two people that got their food after everyone else to be comped. But we didn't get any of that, we got overcharged and of course the 20% tip was auto included as part of the bill. I can say it's very unlikely we will ever be back. I would have given one star but our waiter was very apologetic despite most of the issues coming from kitchen and management. read more

This is not the first time we have been here. This is the most horrible experience we have had here. We had reservations for 1:30 pm and did not get seated until 2:00 pm. Once seated it took 30 more minutes to get water. Yes, it's Mother's Day - and they have a prix fixe menu, so there should be no excuses about taking orders or bringing stuff out. The table next to us told us it took them 30 minutes to get their biscuits for the table. We are still waiting. Our server took our drink orders and we still haven't received it yet. Oh and they have already ran out of food. Obviously they are not prepared for today. Now we only got two biscuits for a table of 4 - make that make sense. I will update later about the rest of the experience. There is nothing to update because we left the restaurant. I spoke with one manager who just came on shift and she had no idea what was going on. Another manager came to our table and ended up being rude and obnoxious and essentially told us to leave. All I can do is SMH and hope Metro figures it out. For a restaurant that only took reservations today one would think they'd have an understanding of how busy they would be on Mother's Day and be prepared, but that's just not the case today. It was utterly unfortunate and disappointing. Our waiter, Jason, was great and worked really hard to keep us updated on statuses, but he looked absolutely overwhelmed and frazzled. While we got seated right away for our reservation, we had to wait at least 20 minutes after receiving a plate of biscuits to ask for a small plate to eat the biscuits. It then took about 20 minutes afterwards to get our drinks (40 minutes after being seated). Shortly after we were able to put our food order in, but didn't receive our food until another 50 minutes later. During the time we were waiting for our food other patrons were leaving after not having received their food for nearly 2 hours after being seated, and others who sat down after us got their food first - it was total chaos and mayhem. After we finished our food we asked if we could take our desserts to go and were told no. While I understand the reason why (desserts weren't made to be taken to go - it's the experience so I get it), we had inquired about getting some discount for the extreme delay or even a gift card. Spoiler: No. When asking for a manager it was relayed to us that they were extremely busy and most likely unable to make the time....go figure with the way this was being managed and organized. Needless to say, we were severely disappointed and unsatisfied with how this entire experience was coordinated (or lack thereof) and handled altogether. A simple gift card to draw us back at another time would have been a good idea, but even that seemed to be beyond the scope of what they were willing to do. Very sad and disappointing read more

We came in for dinner on NYE and had checked out the menu on line ahead of time. The weekly menu showed a steak available, which wasn't when we arrived. Not to worry, as they had short ribs with polenta. I was sold. We started the evening with a martini for my husband and iced tea for me. I should have asked if the tea was flavored. It was, which I don't care for. I had a simple salad with goat cheese. Nothing fancy and very good. My husband had oysters, which he enjoyed. He really liked the paella. The short ribs were good, if a bit too rich for me and had quite lot of fat. We had the lemon pudding cake for dessert, which was just ok. We'd been wanting to come here for quite a while. I would give -5 stars if I could. We came here for the first time for Mother's Day brunch. It was a price fixed menu - almost $200 for 3 people. Our reservations were for 12:45pm and we got seated at 1:15pm. Right off the bat the hostess told us they were very backed up and didn't know how long it would be until we were seated. We are very patient and understanding people. We saw just how busy it was being Mother's Day. We were finally seated and given water. We got the hibiscus spritz drink - tasted like cough syrup. Our waiter let us know that the kitchen was very busy so to place our order ASAP. We did. We waited 45 minutes before we finally saw a waiter to ask for our homemade biscuits and fruit preserves. We were given the complimentary, cold, free bread with butter, not the homemade biscuits and fruit preserves. They told us they were out. Our main course came about 30 minutes after that. 1 french toast, 2 fried chicken and biscuit plates. French toast - cold Fried chicken - warm, relatively tasty compared to the "mashed potatoes" Mashed potatoes - bland, freezing cold, and gummy Biscuit - hard and bland About 10 minutes after our main courses came, they came with the biscuits and butter, no fruit preserves. We ordered the pot de creme for dessert - lumpy and grainy We asked to speak with the manager multiple times and he never came. He was actively avoiding angry tables. If you are going to be the manager, I'm pretty sure managing guest expectations is a part of the job description. We were comped only one meal. I wish I hadn't spent a penny on the cold, gross food, horrible customer service, and worst dining experience ever. Feel bad for the hostess and waitstaff who had to deal with the brunt of angry customers when this was clearly horrible planning on upper management. And to think, our experience wasn't the worst if you read the other reviews from Mother's Day... We were here from 12:45pm until almost 3:00pm. Dining experience from hell. My husband and I had came to this place back in 2016. It took me forever to try to find this restaurant. My experience the last couple times was very pleasant as well as this last time. Our server, Jim was very attentive, considerate, approachable, And came to check up on us every now and then. The food has always been really delicious. I like the vibe here, I love the table right next to the fireplace. It's very compatible for my taste. The heirloom tomatoes with mozzarella was top notch. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu, including the gnocchi, burger, lobster, BLT, chop salad, brussels sprouts, corn soup, truffle, Parmesan fries, And enjoyed it all. I was very disappointed that they don't carry the metro Sundae anymore. That has always been my favorite dessert. The service is impeccable and I highly recommend sitting in the fireplace room for great ambience but if you want a hip or vibe, then sit near the bar I love sitting outside, but it was a little chilly today. Lovely lunch today at Metro. I had never been here before but wanted to give it a try. We sat out on the patio which was very lovely. It wasn't crowded but the tables were spaced apart nicely so that even if it was, you wouldn't feel jammed in. Our server greeted us promptly and was very attentive the entire meal. Hats off to Vita! We started off with the mushroom flatbread with gruyere cheese. Both of us added salt and pepper and I hardly ever do that when I'm out, but honestly I felt the mushrooms were the issue as they were highly under seasoned. I ordered the Croque Monsieur and my table mate ordered the burger. My Croque Monsieur was absolutely delicious! A home run for sure and substantial enough that I could only eat half. It came with fries which were very delicious. I'm glad they weren't overly salty as I prefer fries not so salty. My tablemate asked for his burger medium rare and it came out well. He did enjoy the burger but I will never understand why restaurants ask you how you want it cooked and then don't cook it the way you ask or at least close to what you ask for. We really did enjoy our lunch though. I would definitely come back. The menu had a nice variety, I enjoyed my lunch and everyone who works there was very nice and attentive. read more

The owners of this joint need to hire significantly more staff. They also need to hire an actual chef. Whoever is in the kitchen has absolutely no idea what they're doing. Customer after customer reports the same issue: bad food. We were a party of four and absolutely no one enjoyed what they ordered. Worst Mother's Day experience ever. Had an 11:15 reservation and got seated right away. They brought lovely biscuits but no plates. So 45 minutes later we had to ask for plates for the biscuits. It took 2 hours for our food to come. Today was prix fixe but the food was so delayed we left without having dessert. We asked if we could take it to go but they said no because the sauce was in little ramekins. We asked if we could get something off of the price but they said no. We asked to speak to the manager but they said he was too busy. We asked if we could get a gift card for future and they said no. As we left there was a huge line waiting for their "reserved tables." It was so overbooked it was just crazy. I've been coming here since they opened and it has always been lovely. I have never seen such a disaster as today. read more

The service was abysmal and completely ruined our Mother's Day meal! We've been to this restaurant a few times before and don't recall ever having such a poor experience. We were seated at 2:10pm for a 1:30 reservation. We watched as busboys were walking back and forth wihh the same dishes confused as to where to go. It took another half hr just to get water! There were 2 of us at our table with diabetes and they were beginning to experience drops in their blood glucose. When one of us spoke to the hostess they made all kinds of excuses that they were backed up. At this point there were only half the tables occupied and still no entrees a full hour later. By the way two is ordered salads. No cooking involved. We noticed other tables around us were complaining about the extraordinarily long delays. Same complaints, long delays for even the drinks. The manager, Kay, finally graced us with his presence only to lay on more excuses then decided to get into a loud argument telling us he wasn't getting respect after lying about the fact that they ran out of one of their items. They told another table they had more and would be right out with them. Kat proceeded to start cursing at us then through us out of the restaurant. It all comes down to management and they need to seriously consider a new manager. They were lacking in any sense of urgency. We'll never be back to this restaurant. read more

We were really disappointed with the Mother's Day brunch at Metro. What should have been a special celebration turned into a frustrating experience from start to finish. It took nearly 2 hours to get our food, and about an hour and a half passed between getting the biscuits and finally receiving our meals. For spending around $300, the experience was absolutely not worth it. Our waiter, Jason, was fantastic and did everything he could to keep up. The service staff overall seemed overwhelmed but were clearly trying their best. Unfortunately, the brunch itself felt poorly managed and heavily overbooked, making the whole experience come across as more of a money grab than a well-organized holiday event. Because the service took so long, we didn't even stay for dessert since we already had other plans. It was disappointing to spend that much money and leave feeling stressed and unsatisfied instead of enjoying a special Mother's Day meal. Other tables ended up leaving prior to even getting their food and when asked if we could speak to the manager we were told he was too busy. If I could give zero stars for the management, I would. Came here for what was supposed to be a nice Saturday 6PM birthday dinner with my wife, toddler, and in-laws. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, and at first, things looked promising. Our server was pleasant and made a thoughtful effort to accommodate our toddler's egg allergy--even improvised a straw cup for her. That's where the positives end. Then the wheels fell off--fast. As the server brought our drinks, he managed to tip over not one, but two wine glasses, soaking both my wife and our 2-year-old daughter in wine. She understandably started crying, and the mood for the evening instantly soured. While the server apologized and tried to clean up the mess, not a single manager came over to check on us. No assistance, no apology, no acknowledgment--just radio silence from the people supposedly in charge. I took my upset daughter outside to calm her down, hoping food would turn things around. I came back 15 minutes later to find that only one of our three appetizers had arrived--this was 40 minutes after being seated. The rest of the meal crept out at a glacial pace, with entrees trickling in around the one-hour mark. When the food finally did arrive, it wasn't worth the wait. My daughter's cheeseburger didn't even have cheese--something the server only noticed as he set it down. My schnitzel was a disaster: rubbery, greasy, oversalted, and still somehow mushy. The potatoes tasted like they'd been boiled days ago--bland and mealy. The cabbage was passable, which says a lot about the rest of the plate. To be fair, some dishes at the table were serviceable: my in-laws enjoyed their fish & chips and paella, and my wife said her pasta was "fine." But "fine" doesn't cut it when you're soaked in wine and ignored all evening. Was this just an off night? Maybe. But when your wife and child are dripping in wine and not a single manager can be bothered to say a word--that's not a fluke. That's a failure of leadership and basic decency. Please rustle up an option for us vegans! There are quite a few of us in the area. I had to order a beet salad without the cheese and a bowl of brussel sprouts. A meal with no protein and my stomach hurt later that night. An easy vegan option would be pasta with a veggie sauce. You have a pasta with meat sauce, just don't add the meat and add veggies instead. Done! Thank you for your response, Jack. I had asked my server that night for a vegan option and he initially told me that the kitchen could make a polenta dish. He then came back 5 minutes later and told me that the polenta would contain dairy and said there were no vegan entree options for me. Sounds like hearsay to me. When I returned to our table, a manager arrived to ask if she could help. As I tried to reply, she would not let me finish my sentences. She must have interrupted at least a half dozen of my statements. My wife and I found that quite embarrassing for her. Over the years, we had enjoyed many four to five star evenings at your restaurant. This time you certainly deserve only one. Popped in for lunch and decided to eat light. I've always seen Metro Lafayette which is located within the shopping center of Whole Foods and other businesses. We chose to sit in their patio area which was amazing -weather of 73 degrees made it delightful. Excellent service as our waiter always had a smile and our food came out within minutes. Food was mediocre as the crab salad was a little bland. Maybe with added lemon the taste would have been better. As for the ahi poke was A-ok. Great spot in Lafayette for a satisfying meal and warm service. Popped in here 4pm on a Saturday and the place was mostly empty. Our server Kendra was wonderful. She gave us the choice to pick our table so we grabbed a cozy spot by the fireplace. We ordered the burrata to share, the Croque Monsieur and the six hour braised lamb. The burrata with the cherry tomatoes was delicious and you could taste the intense flavor of the basil oil drizzle. My husband's sandwich looked great and I stole some of his French fries. The fries were so crisp and some of the best I have had. The lamb was so flavorful, I had to save some for the next day and it tasted even better. Definitely coming back for more! read more

Sad to say I'm going to have to agree with some of the recent reviews. We've been to Metro several times and in the past the food used to be dependably solid and tasty. I'm taking stars away because of our mains. A burger that was the size of an In-N-Out, but not as tasteful, with and under seasoned patty, and wet, undrained pickles and tomatoes. Plus, it came out cold and medium instead of medium rare like we had asked. We also got a shrimp salad that was a clear upsell by our waitress, who said it was her favorite salad. It was literally Romaine lettuce, sliced red onions, and cocktail shrimp. There was no seasoning, not even salt; it was just uninspired, tasteless, and way overpriced. On the other hand, they served a good basket of newly cooked, hot french fries and good Brussels sprouts. They should also get some points because the wine and beer list is good, cocktails usually solid, and the patio seating is great during nice weather. Also, their service was quirky... Our waitress disappeared on us for what seemed like 30-45 minutes. Basically this place was a go-to for us, but after this we won't be back. Whatever is wrong here I hope they fix it or I think it's not going to last. read more

Things started off well enough...pleasant waiter, good wine, promising menu options, good corn soup and salad. But it ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth, or I should say salty taste. I ordered two starters instead of an entree: the corn soup and crab cakes. The soup was really nice but, first, I feel the waiter could have mentioned that the crab cakes were tiny, like half dollar size. It wasn't that big of a deal since I wasn't overly hungry but with a normal appetite it wouldn't have been enough. Second, they came with a side of arugula which looked undressed but I thought I spotted a bit of dressing and started to mix the salad. I took a bite and it was super salty which was odd. So much so that I could see the salt on the leaves I had turned over. I called the waiter over and he took it back to replace the arugula with some spring mix. I then spent the next 5 min watching my dining partner eat and she shared a few of her fries, which were salty as well. When I finally got my crab cakes back, the first one was salty but edible. But the next one was inedible. I was full by then so didn't finish it and rather than call the waiter over again I thought I'd mention it when we asked for the bill to explain it was the crab cakes and plate that must have been doused in salt instead of the arugula and to let the chefs know. He acknowledged and walked away. Here's where it gets tricky. I ate 1 1/8th of the crab cakes and didn't send them back. But I was still disappointed to see that I was charged for them. Granted, I didn't return them right away but I did complain twice. When I walked out of there it just didn't sit well with me. He never asked "how can I make this right" or "is there anything else you'd like instead?" Maybe it was an off night? They have a nice menu so we'll probably give it another go and hope it was a one-off. read more

Located in a large shopping center immediately off the freeway. A lot of free parking. Sign is large outside but door/entrance is relatively small - i almost walked into the liquor store next door. Upon walking in, there is bar seating to the right and restrooms to the left. You have to walk a few feet in before being greeted by wait staff. Plenty of different types of seating arrangements including a covered patio. Had a reservation at 630 but were able to accommodate us a little earlier with very little notice. They seated our table in a nice quiet corner with good lighting, some other parts of the restaurant is dimly lit/more intimate. Our server was very kind and welcoming. Service is was timed well and quick when needed. I ordered a mezcal margarita - minimal mezcal/smokey flavor and also very sweet. Too sweet for my liking. 1/5 Tempura green beans - best thing we got. Perfect flavor and great crunch. Dipping sauce was perfect pairing 5/5 Brussel sprouts - cooked really well, nice char and tasty. Good aioli sauce. 5/5 Coq au vin - Chicken was really tender, fell right off the bones. Carrots were sweet and crisp. Potatoes were smooth, flavorful and not too salty/overwhelmingly heavy. Sauce/gravy had minimal flavor and was a little on the thin side for my liking. Could've used more mushrooms Scallops with angel hair truffle pasta - didn't try the scallops but the pasta was cooked well and creamy but light on the truffle taste.
