Besides not being able to cancel your membership unless done in person if he's even there (nope, can't get a hold of him by phone, only Facebook messenger. Professional right). Josh Barnett will let your card be charged over and over making the excuse that he has no control over the company charging your card. I don't own a gym in competition with his, I haven't done a bodybuilding show, I literally just exercise and lift weights and he bashes me. I've known Josh bout 7 years now. My younger son knew his son, our wives were introduced to each other, been to many fitness events with him, music video shoots, I've supported his political campaign on his Facebook page all that. We have messages going back in forth for years. BUTTTTT if you leave Metroflex Phx, I'm telling you, he'll post and post and post about how your a crybaby and you'll never get fit without being at his gym. This gym is definitely customer based and love helping and giving tips to me more efficient in the gym. They have a nutrition shop in the gym with great selection of supplements and shakes. They also have macro-friendly foods that are prepared fresh. Recommend to anyone looking to get into a great gym, have the convenience of a nutrition shop and fairly priced membership. read more

I cancelled this membership in person several years ago and was told I wouldn't be charged. I paid the remainder of the contract at the time. My card never stopped being charged, I cancelled the original card, and they charged the new card fraudulently. Since then, I have tried contacting the owner about a dozen times, no answer. So I put a stop payment. I have since been thrown into collections over fraudulent charges. This is illegal and I see several complaints in regards to the same thing. Finally got our membership canceled after unanswered Facebook messages, unreturned voicemails and finally commenting on a picture on Instagram. YEAH. Apparently, you have to reach out on social media to get an answer because what kind of business actually answers their business phone!? I attached pictures of our conversation saying he canceled our membership, although I never got the "cancel letter" he was supposed to email. I have a feeling they will try to charge another month's fee next month, so I put a block on our bank account, just in case they try. Josh, the owner blocked me on Instagram after he found out I contacted the BBB. Well, the BBB gives businesses a month to respond and he chose not to respond in that month, so I can't understand his anger. I hope he enjoys the action we had to take with the attorney general's office as well. I cannot say enough horrible things about this gym and the fuckery involved in communicating with their staff. The owner of this gym is Josh Barnett. This location (possibly all Metro flex gyms) uses ABS financial for all of their transaction. Go research ABC financial and you will find how corrupt and crocked they are. Josh Barnett has chosen to do all transactions in person and does not have a working phone in the gyms nor will he answer to E-mails. He is a in violation of AZ Consumer Protection laws and many others. After moving to Illinois I remembered that I had forgot to cancel my membership here. After calling repeatedly for weeks straight and sending E-mails with no answers or replies, I decided to message Metroflex-gym Phoenix on Facebook where I finally got a reply. Basically he said that I must come in to the store to cancel, but after explaining my situation and him being a total jerk, he said my membership was canceled. For the next four months Metroflex Gym continued to withdraw from my account. The first month is understandable since I didn't provide 30 days notice of my cancellation, however, the other three withdrawals were nothing short of theft. This includes the following amounts: 3/23 for $49.50 4/22 for $30.00 5/22 for $30.00 For a total of $109.50. At this point I am going to take all precautionary methods to try to prevent further theft from my account. I've been an avid gym goer for since I can remember - I had my first membership when I was 15 years old and I'm almost 42. I've been a member at great gym and not so great gyms... The best gyms have all had the following: * great equipment * knowledgable and friendly (first name basis) staff with no corporate atmosphere * hassle free memberships * energy and atmosphere Metroflex hits them all for me. If you can't get a good workout here, you won't get it elsewhere. There are people in here with decades of experience and everyone is very willing to help or answer your questions. The owner Josh is super down to Earth and the people there may be serious about training, but everyone is approachable (even if they might not look it!) - simple memberships and 24 hour key fob entry... Music is always up tempo and people are pumped up. It was a great gym to hit up while I was in Phoenix and if I lived here it's where I'd be training here often. read more

Let me just say I would avoid going near this place at all costs. I've been trying to cancel my gym membership after the owner decided to charge my card several times for no reason. They charge me for my normal monthly service charge. And then continue to charge me $130 for no reason and then getting a refund was literally like pulling teeth. I called him around 16 times and left voicemails every single time finally I had to call him out on Instagram to get him to finally return any calls whatsoever. I would avoid this gym at all costs. The trainers are awesome I started going there because of inferno performance and I wish I can continue working with them because they were amazing. This place is a building with a bunch of equipment scattered all over....I wouldn't call it a gym. The equipment, floors and bathrooms are disgustingly dirty....not filthy. I don't think the equipment or the inside of building has ever been cleaned. They have a smoothie bar in the gym, but I wouldn't eat there if someone paid me. The music is obscenely loud. One of the only (if not the only) real gyms in Phoenix. This is where the champs train, and appreciate the like minded. Metroflex is a weight room of mirrors and iron. You have lockers, separate bathrooms/change rooms, a posing room and even a dance studio. Although it has the dungeon feel of a Detroit locker room, there is an even mix of female figure competitors and males. If you're serious, this gym membership is a staple. read more

I'll admit that my friends and I were being petty, but for business to join in and shame someone!! They body shamed me and said "You're 20 and I don't see an ab on your body'. Meanwhile I'm over here, perfectly in love with my body, but what if I wasn't? That could of really hurt someone and for a business, a gym nonetheless to partake in such drama! For those who want results and to find trainers that can give you those results, you can find them here. If you want a clean, up to date workout facility this WOULD NOT be the place. This place has an old school, "family" atmosphere...but you gotta be part of the family. Canceling the membership is NOT easy. It's unfortunate that they keep the facility so run down and that they make it hard to cancel because there are some great trainers here and this is the only place I got the best results ; but definitely not worth investing your money at this gym especially for the cost and lack of working cardio equipment and matching free weights or kettle bells plus various other equipment. read more

I have been a member of this gym since 2012 when it was at the old location. The owner Josh takes pride in all his members and everyone at this gym is willing to help anyone that is trying to reach goals. This gym is not like anything else in the Valley. This gym has people from all walks of life and everyone is made to feel welcome. The equipment is always available and they even bring in specialized equipment for Olympic lifters, power lifters, and strongman. Plenty of cardio equipment and tons of weights. Josh the owner & his Bella were always helpful in any questions wether regarding dieting or bodybuilding workout tips that I had. Membership agreement, by law, has a clause that states if consumer should choose to cancel the agreement within 3 days of signing, they are entitled to a full refund. I chose to cancel services within this time frame, yet the gym ignored all requests for refund. Two (2) months advance payments were made for both myself and my spouse. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. My contract has been well up for 8 months and come to find out they have switched me to month to month to continue charging me . Even tho they closed the gym I signed up for 2 months before my contract was up . I called billing company to try and cancel this membership and get copy of contract they say they can do neither and have to contact gym.
