I find it interesting that, when we are virtually swamped by choices in fresh "Mexican" styled cuisine, why anyone would go to Mex on Main in Trumbull more than once unless they don't own a car. Pancheros or Chipotle, both in Shelton and within a ten minute drive, ofter twice the meal for the same price. Granted, you aren't given half a dozen free and actually quite tasty chips, but the size of the entré, an almost pound of rice, beans, meat, etc. puts the meager meal at Mex on Main to shame. Unfortunately, I convinced my daughter, a huge fan of Pancheros, to take the chance and go more local tonight. What a shame... $20 spent and still hungry. GrubHub did not even ring the bell and let us know the order they left on our front porch and the only text I received was that it was on the way. The tacos I ordered were good but mushy as I asked to please put shells separately for that reason. Did not like the rice and beans. Also we only received one little of each salsas and ordered 3 meals which all came with salsa in which we chose picante and that was the one we liked. Should have received one for each meal as u had to chose when ordering. Definitely would go there and eat not delivery. read more

I ordered via uber eats and I am pretty disappointed with my food. I ordered a classic burrito which comes with numerous ingredients. Instead I got a burrito with mostly black beans and hard/old rice, it had a little bit of chicken. I also selected 2 salsas which were not included. I would not recommend Mex on Main. read more

Always get orders wrong and get mad when you correct them. The owner is very nice but if you get anyone else at the register good luck. They have good food but it's not worth it. I was so hoping this place would be better. This was my second visit.It's not awful, but not great, either. Whenever I try a new place, I try something typical of that cuisine. In this case, a burrito. They are pretty small and lack flavor. I ordered steak and got chicken, even though I made sure to mention it twice. The salsa bar is great. Chips and quest are good. Okay, so yes the food needs some work, and this is hopefully advice for the people who run the joint and not a bunch of fake food critics. Because everyone deserves a chance for constructive criticism and outside perspective. 5 stars for the location and decor. Parking stinks but seeing as how you aren't the engineering team that configured it, no worries. 4.5 stars for the service. Great ideas of how to order and food being brought to the tables. Just need them fancy plaques that designate table numbers so the staff knows what table to bring the food to. 1.5 for the food. Now do not let this deter or dishearten you, it can be fixt. You have a great idea, now make it taste great. Put some heat on it, it's Mexican food, it should bring back my ulcers in full swing. Don't be scared of peppers and spices guys it's okay. Meh On Main. Plan on trying again as they just starting up and were clearly overwhelmed for dinner/takeout service (literally offering to give out someone else's order because it was "close enough"). That said, was underwhelmed at best on the first go. Was hoping for a little more flavor kick but found the offerings I tried rather bland (beef taco, shrimp burrito, quesadilla). Very pricey for what you get. Over $3 for a tiny "large" guacamole. Quality has gone down recently and prices up. Ordered a cheese quesadilla "with beans" and paid extrA. Didn't get the beans, and the only way for them to make it right was if I drove the original quesadilla 20 minutes back to Mex on Main! Then they said would give me a new one. Stopped in twice this week of lunch. Had the special both times. California Chicken soft tocos one day and Pork soft tacos the other day, both with spanish rice and refried beans. $10. Excellent food, fair prices, friendly and accommodating staff. Eat-in offers high-top, tables, and outdoor seating. Take-out is quick and convenient. Clean facilities. Was very skeptical ! I tried it and I like it a lot. Steak fajitas were good, and I'm a beef snob, the meat wasn't dry or low budget cuts. The portions were good, however, I could have used a few more tortillas. But I didn't mind eating the remaining steak and veggies with my fork. Flavor was great, I don't normally eat beans but these were flavorful as was the rice. It is however kind of pricey. But that's kind of normal for Trumbull. I would recommend. One down side: a scoop of guac wasn't served with each plate, unlike a lot of other places similar to this one. The staff could've been happier. I understand it's hot, the phone orders and reg orders are piling up, maybe they need a raise. Or a hug. Or both. Will visit again. read more

I asked to substitute cheddar cheese for the pepper jack (too hot for my mother), and she said they can't. The cheddar and jack cheese is mixed. This is the newest and only Mexican restaurant in town and what a wonderful addition. The interior is modern with slick iPads at the ordering counter. The menu is what I would consider Baja Californian with a twist--think traditional dishes like fajitas but also coastal touches like the seafood burrito with scallops. Service was friendly and attentive. I loved the free chips and salsa bar. The prices are excellent--only $6 for the huge quesadilla and salads are under 10. The ingredients are very fresh and healthy! Win win. I'll definitely come back to eat on the outdoor patio. I would give it 5 stars but they didn't get the order perfect. I asked for dressing on the side and no chicken in the burrito. They just opened so I know they will work these kinks out. read more

Mex on Main has decent Mexican food. They gave us a free salad and some free rice which was very nice. But one worker raised their voice at Mr. Chang. They also close to early and there is lots of Mexicans which is kinda racist. You also have to clean up your own food. The music is also really annoying and too loud. Overall the foods good and the service isn't that great and the atmosphere is poor. But a decent experience and an OK place for a quick lunch. read more

I am not exaggerating when I say; Hilda is the reason I go back to Mex on Main. Sure, the quesadillas are always delicious but, they're even better when Hilda makes them. Not to mention how friendly she is every time I am there. She's even started putting the chicken on the grill when she sees me coming! It feels like she's always there working, or at least always when I go. She never, ever complains and is always so sweet. The chicken was tasteless and so were the black beans w/rice. Given that at least 50% of the menu is chicken, this shouldn't been an unusual request. OK in terms of Trumbull restaurant standards, which isn't saying much. Similar in concept to a Sierra Grille and a step up from Taco Bell. If that's what you're looking for then this place is fine. Positives: Appeared clean. Fast turnaround on order. Chips tasted fresh crisp and homemade. Food had decent flavor and was not very spicy to appeal to a wider audience. I ordered the The Mex Taco Salad. The ground beef was barely lukewarm. My Taco Salad didn't come with tomatoes which was surprising for a salad. But they come with the regular tacos. Go figure. I had to get some pico de gallo from the salsa bar to add tomato flavor. My husband ordered Enchiladas and the sauce tasted like it came from a can.
