The quality of the meat is outstanding--it literally melts in your mouth like butter. While the dish is perfectly seasoned on its own, Chef Felipe's house-made sauces are a must-try. The green aji sauce is vibrant and fresh, while the chili oil provides a wonderful kick. I highly recommend sitting at the counter if you can. It's mesmerizing to watch Chef Felipe work his magic on the wok, sending flames high into the air as he cooks. The service is truly unparalleled. Juan, the owner, is the most welcoming and cordial host I have encountered in a long time. He treats every guest like a long-lost friend and speaks with such pride about the restaurant's 45-year legacy. It is clear that he deeply appreciates his team; he specifically asked me to recognize Chef Felipe for his consistency and hard work. Juan's hospitality even extended to gifting me a complimentary Chicha Morada--a refreshing, perfectly balanced Peruvian drink that was the ideal accompaniment to the meal. I've been to Santee alley more times than I can count, today I was looking for something different and I went to a part that I don't normally go to and stumbled across this restaurant and I couldn't be happier. The cutest little hole in the wall, but still has plenty of seating. I noticed the sign saying they've been open for 45 years which really caught my eye. I walked past it 3 separate times while checking out different stores and each time I saw new customers outside, it was never empty, I knew I had to try. 10/10 service! I was looking at the pictures on the wall and not even 30 seconds later, Ozzie (sorry if i spelled it wrong) came out handed me a menu and greeted me. A couple minutes later he came back to take my order, but I am indecisive and needed more time and he was super kind and patient! I ended up sitting at the bar and ordering to go when the owner Juan came out we started conversing. He asked me how I found the place and if it was my first time and he was so kind and personable. I love when owners or managers have this warm energy to them! I paid $13 cash for three tacos (al pastor) which I'll be honest is a little more than I would normally spend on tacos, but they were a really good size, double tortilla, and delicious, probably one of the best i've had in a long time and the service was so nice that I would go back and do it again. Saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to stop by with my boyfriend. We ordered the lomo saltado, mixed ceviche and caldo de res. Everything was delicious, so well seasoned and packed with flavor. The owner also came out and talked to us as well. He was super friendly and gave us a run down on the restaurant. They've been there for over 40 years are a legacy restaurant! I've had this restaurant circled for a while but never actually followed through until today--and wow, what a mistake to wait this long. Hands down, one of my favorite restaurant experiences to date. One of my hesitations was always parking in DTLA, but that ended up being a non-issue. When we arrived, the staff let us know we could park right out front or in the single parking lane along the side of the restaurant, which was a huge relief. We were greeted by Juan (not sure if he's the owner or manager), and from the moment we walked in, he made us feel like family. The hospitality alone was outstanding. We ordered a few dishes because I wanted to try their most popular plates. We started with the ceviche--completely different from any ceviche I've had before, yet it stood head-to-head with the best I've tried. Absolutely incredible. Next was the Lomo Saltado, which was my first time having it, and the flavors were unreal. You can truly taste the quality in every bite. I'll definitely be back as soon as possible to try more of their menu, and I'll be recommending Mex-Peru Gipsy to everyone who asks. A must-visit spot. read more

We drove over an hour and we came on a Saturday so parking was hard to find except we happened to ask the owner and he let us park out front. Just got off work in the area, and we were looking for food places. We found this place with 2000+ reviews, and we decided to come by. We parked in a parking lot closed by, and walked over. This is a small restaurant that has a few stools (bar style) inside the restaurant, and they also have a few table set up outside of the restaurant. They play wonderful music, and we were able to listen to it outside of the restaurant. We ordered lomo saltado. Our server gave us a jar of green salsa and a jar of red pepper chill oil. We were told that the meat was filet mignon. The meat was very tender and was not chewy at all! Flavor was amazing and was not too salty! We were also introduced a Peruvian ice-cream.
