Was so excited to come here!! The menu seemed incredible and we finally came here for our anniversary to justify the price point. We had a reservation at 7pm but arrived and 6:30. They werent busy so we still were able to be seated right away yay! Also, do valet parking, it's $16.50 for 2.5hrs with validation. Its cheaper than the $30 self park. We got a table with a grill and decided to splurge on the premium option to get the A5! The A5 wagyu was the best cut by far, but the striploin was also good. I do not recommend the australian sukiyaki - very mid. The wagyu hand roll was also super yummy, wish we got more than 1. We also enjoyed the grilled lobster a lot!! The other reviews are right - theres only so much wagyu u can eat lol. It got old really fast so we didnt eat as much as we thought we would. I did really love the snow crab available at the buffet though! It was delish. The miso corn, potato pave and seabass were also very yummy. Some lowlights - it didnt feel like there were that many options to choose from. A lot of the options on the menu seemed eh, and the buffet line didnt seem very fresh or look very appetizing. The king crab which i was so excited for, SUCKED. We ordered it a second time to make sure it wasnt just a bad batch and it was so bad. I dont know why but it was SO DRY ?!?!?! It was really not good at all. Such a waste and i was really dissapointed. The sukiyaki was meh, and also the australian yakisuki was very meh too. I also wish they had ice cream! There wasnt really anything refreshing to cleanse the pallet. The yuzu cheesecake was fire though - really glad we had room for dessert. The other cakes were just okay. The dan tat was amazing though! The only things that i felt were "worth" eating was the snow crab and A5 ribeye and striploin. Wish there were more interesting sides other than a basic miso soup, salad, dumplings or white rice which we thought would be a waste to order. We recently discovered that this restaurant is part of the Chubby Group, and we decided to give it a try for the first time to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday! Located inside the InterContinental Hotel in Downtown LA, the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and is in a convenient location. One thing we really appreciated was the valet parking right outside the hotel entrance. It was reasonably priced and made parking in Downtown LA a lot less stressful. As for the food, who doesn't love unlimited Japanese BBQ and seafood?! There was a great variety of options to choose from, and being able to cook everything right at the table made the experience even more fun. It was a great way to celebrate her birthday, and we're definitely glad we discovered another restaurant within the Chubby Group. ELEVATED AYCE! 5.0 We discovered NIKU X, a contemporary Japanese yakiniku restaurant, during a recent trip to Los Angeles. We learned that Chubby Group, a U.S. based food-and-beverage holding company, operates a number of dining concepts and currently has over 60 multi-concept restaurants. Some of their concepts include Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House, The X Pot, Wagyu Master, Chubby Cattle BBQ and Chubby Skewers, just to name a few. Needless to say, with so many opportunities to dine at their restaurants near our home in the Bay Area, we decided to upgrade to a Chubby Club PLUS membership. We have found it to be well worth the perks, especially the special birthday benefits. NIKU X was only a 10-15 minute walk from our hotel, The Ritz-Carlton. Located inside The Wilshire Grand Center in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the restaurant is in a busy area. Use the main entrance for the Intercontinental Hotel and take the escalators to the second floor. Our early 5:00 p.m. reservation was perfect, as the restaurant was not crowded, and we were seated at a very large and quiet table. We ordered the Premium Wagyu selection, a few of the chef's signature dishes and visited the buffet area a couple of times, mainly for the crab legs. Next time, I would probably stay away from some of the heavier items, like the Potato Pavé, which was quite filling. Our two main servers were incredibly friendly and offered endless suggestions on the meat selections and side dishes. The restaurant's policy is to cook the first round of meat for guests, but we were fortunate to have exceptionally attentive servers who cooked just about every round for us. Not going to lie - we had initial concerns when we realized Niku is NOT in the hotel, but instead was outside in the back behind the valet area. Our concerns were further heightened when we reached the front entrance, as it was giving "low-budget all-you-can-eat" and not what we saw on Yelp. We were also quite surprised to realize that half of the restaurant allows for self-grilling... that was not the vibe we were going for, it was quite smokey, and I was wearing white on white. However! We were moved to the other section with pretty decor, comfy booth seating, where they bring out ready-made skewers to the table - everything turned around from there. Lobster, wagyu, sashimi, caviar, and so much more - YUM! We made sure to get all the best stuff to maximize our experience. We had to order in small orders, which wasn't a problem at all. We do get 2 hours here and at this location, your last call to order is (if I remember correctly) 20 or 40 minutes before your 2 hours is up. And the clock starts as soon as you checked in, if not that as soon as you're seated for sure. It's very pretty inside. Even though we are here for the meat, I did notice the dessert section is not just where you can just get up and get it, you have to go to the dessert counter which is right by hostess stand and you let them know what you want and they will get it for you. My favorite is the Yuzu Cheesecake. Also, as mentioned we are here for the meat, I still have to acknowledge that their Self-serve station is a bit limited, but still good BECAUSE they had Steamed Lobsters and Crab legs there to choose from, if you are into seafood. Niku X is part of the Chubby Group. Knowing this information, I didn't have high expectations for this place. The chain of restaurants that are involved in this group are mediocre at best. They are selling a fantasy of a high end experience while providing low quality service and food. The menu at Niku X is quite overwhelming. I didn't know where to start so the server basically ordered and recommended everything to try. There was so much going on from the appetizers that were being served, the meat being cooked on the grill, and the open buffet of food. Literally nothing stood out to me. I think the appetizers were better than the japanese bbq itself. For $150 per person, I expected at least quality dinnerware. The plates themselves are PLASTIC. Please give me a break. Just celebrated a birthday here yesterday! We had the different cuts of beef, oxtail potstickers, miso sea bass wrap, potato pave, wagyu rice, wagyu tomato stew, big head prawn, and assorted fruit. The cuts of beef really stood out to us because they were so tasty! Roman and Kelley helped create such a unique dining experience for us. Both recommended and took turns to help us cook the beef. We tried cooking our own, and it just wasn't the same! They are so knowledgable about the beef cuts and cooking process. We ended up with delicious, juicy bites that melted in our mouths each time they were on the grill! On top of that, they were really friendly and attentive to our needs. UPDATE: Came back here for my girlfriend's early birthday celebration dinner, and it was honestly a disappointment compared to our previous visits. We had a 6:45 PM reservation but weren't seated until 7:15 PM. It really felt like they only gave us a table because we finally went up to the host to ask why we were still waiting 30 minutes past our time. Not a great start. Once we got seated, things didn't get much better. I ordered a cocktail that took a while to come out. We had already ordered and received two rounds of sides and meats, and still no drink. I had to flag down our server to follow up, and it finally showed up shortly after. Then came the main issue. My girlfriend went straight for the crab legs and noticed only snow crab was out and it honestly wasn't as fresh as it should be for the price. Toward the end of dinner, I saw a different server carrying out Alaskan crab legs. When I asked our server, she told us they still have them, but you have to order them directly through her now. This wasn't written on the menu at all. If I hadn't happened to see someone else get them, we never would have known. I went ahead and ordered two orders (4 legs total), but it took over 20 minutes to get to us. Pretty good spot. We got the $500 tasting menu, which the course meals were all so good, and nicely plated. Though, I thought the main course which was the wagyu tomahawk lacked flavor surprisingly. Part of the chubby group. I would say this experience is more of an all you can eat japanese bbq than a buffet. While there are buffet options, it's very limited. The menu does offer a lot of unlimited items. You have to come in thinking that this is an AYCE with some buffet selections. If you come thinking it's a big buffet you will be dissatisfied. Service is good, came on a weekday evening for a birthday. Definitely feels rushed a bit, server forgot to put in our order towards the end but thankfully a manager came to help us out after. I've been here before when Niku X first opened and was strictly omakase / coursed meals. Quality and service was much better then compared to now. It's been a while since I've gone, but the new premium buffet concept is nice. I mainly came in for the seafood this trip. King crab legs, shrimp, and lobster tail filled my belly. The wagyu selection was great, but very rich as usual. We ate some of the thinner sliced cuts and were very satisfied. The items to order from the kitchen were as good as I remembered. The potato paave, oxtail dumplings, ans seabass were the stars. Another Chubby production hits the mark :) Before you decide to just come, make sure to have reservations. I came on a Thursday with reservations and still had to wait 15 mins before hand. Traffic wasn't too crazy around 6:50 pm from Orange County. Your looking at 45 mins to hour to get here. Once you get here, you will have to park in a parking garage lot. Don't waste too much time trying to find parking in downtown. Once you valet or park, take the elevator to the second floor and here you are. Check in with the receptionist, time seem so long while we was waiting lol. Finally got to our table, the setting is quiet, good for groups and date. If you been to chubby cattle, kinda like the same thing but instead you tell your waiter what you want to order. Theres a buffet on the side too. A lot of options from meats to seafood. All in all food was fantastic, waiter was on point. Designs was cool. Niku X was my family's go to for celebrations and occasional gatherings but after this experience we don't know if we will be returning. For one a lot of the food quality has gone down. King crab has gotten smaller but now you have to order it which was a problem because our server almost never came by our table so we had to call other random staff to ask for help.Large prawns were replaced with small tiny shrimp and the lobster tail used to be a lot bigger in our last visit but this time they were small and we struggled to get the meat out. Not sure if the duck was included but no one ever explained anything to us so we didn't get to try it but we saw it on the way out. The choices seemed a lot less overall than before. Not sure if it's because one of the sections were replaced with egg tarts and cheese tarts. Also I'm a chubby member and saw later after I got home from the receipt that price is different than what was listed on the menu. Our total came out to 114 pp after the membership discount. The guy who we thought were our server always skipped our table, he kept going back and forth and never came back after taking our order in the beginning. It was the weirdest thing. Food is always high quality at Niku X! Lots of crab and lobster along with delicious cuts of beef. Highly recommend the Chilean Seabass wrap. Kelley and the team were awesome and super attentive. Checking in often and continuously keeping us hydrated! read more

Just had my birthday dinner here again. Only this time the wagyu meat quality from the buffet went down Meat was very chewy, not fatty like it used to be. Even the color is red not pink how it used to be. They added new thin cut seasoned meats. Even though seasoning was good the meat was not. Chewy chewy. Didn't seem like Japanese A5 wagyu. More like American wagyu. Service was good and attentive as always. I hope they will bring back the quality meat they had before. read more

Niku was an amazing experience- the meat the seafood, the service... it was high quality and I just wish I had more room in my stomach to dig into the crab legs but I was too full from the sashimi, bbq, and all the other items. It's delicious. It's a great place for dates Bht also for family outings. There is validation at the intercontinental for a money off. read more
