There are AYCE establishments and there's fine dining but to combine the two? That's where Niku X steps in. Not to be confused with other similarly named establishments with the word "Niku" in their name, look for the "X" on the map because that marks the spot where you'll find a hidden treasure. Part of the Chubby Group (formerly Chubby Cattle), Niku X is a luxury Japanese steakhouse located in downtown Los Angeles at the Wilshire Grand Center. There is valet parking as you enter the main parking entrance which can be validated by the restaurant. Afterwards, we made our way up to the second floor. We had arrived just before they had open their doors for dinner but the moment we walked through those black double doors, the host(s) and server(s) were lined up and each guest was greeted and shown to their tables. I felt like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and I swore I heard "Pure Imagination" playing in the background. Specializing in Japanese style BBQ known as "yakiniku," which literally translates to "grilled meat," their menu offers the highest grade and premium quality of meats ranging from Japanese A5 to Australian wagyu along with the finest cuts such as ribeye, sirloin and thick-cut tongue. From the self-serve area, their choice of meats include A5 brisket, A4 sirloin, chef's choice of A5 and Australian cuts, and even wagyu bone-in short ribs (galbi). The seafood choices shined as well from the prawns to the lobster tails and the hand rolls but do not dare overlook the signature dishes. From the kick of the wagyu tallow shishito peppers, the sweetness of the marinated eel, the juiciness of the steamed lobster, the way the miso Chilean sea bass literally melts in your mouth, the unique combination of wagyu beef tartare and caviar in the wagyu caviar handroll, each dish was a champion in its own right. But the most visually pleasant dish of all, the potato pavé. This thinly-sliced, layered, fried, scalloped potato cube was the most popular and recommended item to begin with and it did not disappoint. It will literally change the way you eat potatoes. "Listen better. Don't make 'em ask. Listen. Watch. Execute." - Richie, The Bear This means paying close attention to a guest's wants and needs, without waiting for them to tell you and the Niku X waitstaff along with Kelly, whom we had the pleasure of having as our server, did just that and more. Kelly was not only welcoming and informative but incredibly helpful in regards to suggesting dishes or offering recommendations but she really went above and beyond when she gave us a tour of the self-serve area and explained each station. A staff member who brought our first round of meat began grilling them then cutting them into smaller pieces before placing on a wooden board and explaining to us what each cut is then recommended seasoning the meat with their salt and pepper blend. Throughout the evening, more guests have filled the restaurant and the ambience became busy but the waiters constantly refilled our waters and cleared our table of any empty plates. Kelly never failed to appear and check up on us and strike up a conversation which was very comforting. She really showed us that she genuinely cared about the guests and displayed what true hospitality is. Niku X has broken the stereotype and redefined what fine dining is. It is no longer dishes with the word "deconstructed," "emulsion," "foam," or "a hint of" in its description. Niku X describes themselves plain and simple, respectively; they're a luxury AYCE (not a buffet) establishment that serve high quality meats and seafood that you can enjoy to your heart's (and stomach's) content but it's not just the food that guests will remember about Niku X, it's the staff who served them that will bring guests back. You may not remember the name of a certain dish on Niku's menu but I guarantee that when you return, you'll remember the face of the person who served you an incredible meal. "What I've learned over the years, in all the places I've worked, is people don't remember the food; it's the people that they remember." - Chef Andrea Terry, The Bear Other folks might think Niku X is a bit costly but these are the same folks who think Benihana is a fine dining Japanese tabletop grilling but you're really just paying for a show; at Niku X you're paying for quality, service, and a memorable experience. I recently called Niku X to confirm Kelly's name as my server since her name did not appear on my receipt. I explained to Sarah, a host who greeted me on the phone, that I wanted to write a Yelp review and wanted to give credit where credit is due and Sarah took the time to help me confirm it was indeed Kelly who had served me. At the end of the call, Sarah said to me, "See you soon" and I replied with "Of course."

I was recommended to come here by a friend of mine. Didn't disappoint me! Service was incredible, the servers were very tentative. Came by every few minutes to see if we needed anything. When you first view the restaurant you get an incredible fine dining vibe. Very social media friendly photos. When you enter the facility, you can see the buffet and it is not your ordinary buffet. This is a step up by what you may formally imagine a $20-30 AYCE buffet. Seating was very spacious, there were 4 members in my party including myself, we were at a booth and the booth looked like it could handle at least 6-8 people. Grill in the middle for our wagyu meats. As for the food, I got a little bit of everything from the buffet just to try and it was great. You were able to grab meats for your grill, the fried rice was cooked with wagyu, seafood was available, but the real winner would be what's on the menu. Everything was fantastic. Just an fyi if you wanted soup, I recommend the duck over miso. Tried both, miso is miso so I wasn't impressed, but the duck had a stronger flavor. I'll let my photos show some of what I ate.

Niku X was my family's go to for celebrations and occasional gatherings but after this experience we don't know if we will be returning. For one a lot of the food quality has gone down. King crab has gotten smaller but now you have to order it which was a problem because our server almost never came by our table so we had to call other random staff to ask for help.Large prawns were replaced with small tiny shrimp and the lobster tail used to be a lot bigger in our last visit but this time they were small and we struggled to get the meat out. Not sure if the duck was included but no one ever explained anything to us so we didn't get to try it but we saw it on the way out. The choices seemed a lot less overall than before. Not sure if it's because one of the sections were replaced with egg tarts and cheese tarts. Also I'm a chubby member and saw later after I got home from the receipt that price is different than what was listed on the menu. Our total came out to 114 pp after the membership discount. The guy who we thought were our server always skipped our table, he kept going back and forth and never came back after taking our order in the beginning. It was the weirdest thing. We noticed that he just constantly kept walking past without even looking at our direction. It was a very different experience from the great service we have always gotten at NikuX.

We were looking for a place to CELEBRATE an early Bday and 4th of July celebration around LA and I searched on YELP and Niku X appeared. Then, I realized that they are part of the Chubby Group and that was even better since we have membership! WEEKEND LUNCH: $45 for members and $55 for non members. OPTIONAL & Additional $35 for the AYCE Wagyu and Lobster tails. There's an UNLIMITED all you can eat buffet as well and you can also just choose to have the buffet only with or without the grill at the table... AUSTRALIAN WAGYU and A5 JAPANESE WAGYU were our favorite meat selection... CRAB LEGS: 10/10 Fresh and warm... FAVORITE SIDES: Corn, Shishito peppers, Brussel sprouts... PRO TIP: Try grilling the Lobster tails for an enhanced Experience! SERVICE: A+ service by Roman and the entire team there which were all guys were awesome! SAVE room for the EGG TARTS!!! BIRTHDAY DESSERT PLATTER: available upon request! I told them I saw a picture of it on YELP ;) ROCK ON NIKU X !!!!!!!

Good but over-rated. A very plush and chic restaurant but I expected much better quality of food. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I expected great at this price tag (especially when you're getting and cooking your own food). It was a nice splurge to try but wouldn't recommend it for the food and value. Service was really good, staff was attentive with refilling drinks. Note: parking will be like $30 with validation.

Celebrated my birthday here this past Saturday with my family, and we had an amazing time! We really enjoyed the food here and everything we got were fresh and delicious. The snow crab legs were definitely a family favorite, and don't skip the yuzu cheesecake for dessert--it was the perfect way to end the meal. They also have a good selection of different drinks - cherry blooms has been my favorite mixed drink from here. The service was excellent as well. Huge shoutout to our server, Roman, who was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. He really helped make our birthday celebration special. We'll definitely be back!

Not going to lie - we had initial concerns when we realized Niku is NOT in the hotel, but instead was outside in the back behind the valet area. Our concerns were further heightened when we reached the front entrance, as it was giving "low-budget all-you-can-eat" and not what we saw on Yelp. We were also quite surprised to realize that half of the restaurant allows for self-grilling... that was not the vibe we were going for, it was quite smokey, and I was wearing white on white. However! We were moved to the other section with pretty decor, comfy booth seating, where they bring out ready-made skewers to the table - everything turned around from there. Lobster, wagyu, sashimi, caviar, and so much more - YUM! We made sure to get all the best stuff to maximize our experience. We had to order in small orders, which wasn't a problem at all. Everyone was so attentive, informative, efficient and helpful. I appreciated the service, for sure. We ended up parking in the lot across the street so we could walk a bit and explore the area. We also went up to the Spire, which had a nice vibe and stellar views.

Niku X is part of the Chubby Group. Knowing this information, I didn't have high expectations for this place. The chain of restaurants that are involved in this group are mediocre at best. They are selling a fantasy of a high end experience while providing low quality service and food. The menu at Niku X is quite overwhelming. I didn't know where to start so the server basically ordered and recommended everything to try. There was so much going on from the appetizers that were being served, the meat being cooked on the grill, and the open buffet of food. Literally nothing stood out to me. I think the appetizers were better than the japanese bbq itself. For $150 per person, I expected at least quality dinnerware. The plates themselves are PLASTIC. Please give me a break. I do not recommend Niku X. The high price point does not correlate with the service or quality of food at all. I would not support this business.

Another Chubby production hits the mark :) Before you decide to just come, make sure to have reservations. I came on a Thursday with reservations and still had to wait 15 mins before hand. Traffic wasn't too crazy around 6:50 pm from Orange County. Your looking at 45 mins to hour to get here. Once you get here, you will have to park in a parking garage lot. Don't waste too much time trying to find parking in downtown. Once you valet or park, take the elevator to the second floor and here you are. Check in with the receptionist, time seem so long while we was waiting lol. Finally got to our table, the setting is quiet, good for groups and date. If you been to chubby cattle, kinda like the same thing but instead you tell your waiter what you want to order. Theres a buffet on the side too. A lot of options from meats to seafood. All in all food was fantastic, waiter was on point. Designs was cool. I think the timing of reservations needs a little work, if your charging people to make it here on time, then there shouldn't be no waiting then 5 mins.

came for the wknd lunch buffet $55/person & $45/members we made rez via opentable the restaurant does require a CC in order to book the rez the menu is a bit confusing but our waiter, roman was really patient with us as we had a million questions. the $55 for the buffet is the base, then you can add on either the classic or signature , if you get the signature then it includes everything on the signature plus the classic niku is a really gorgeous restaurant. staff were all really friendly. the food was all really good. would def go again for the wknd lunch buffet the cheese tart tho, the star of the show parking: valet, dont forget to get your ticket validated. i parked across the way for $4 for about 2.5 hrs.

Had a lovely dinner at Niku X's seafood and A5 yakiniku BBQ steak buffet. They offer an impressive selection of fresh seafood, specialty dishes, cooked items, and even dim sum. There are some meats you can get yourself at the buffet and some you order with your server. Kevin was super attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that our experience was smooth and enjoyable.

This is not a restaurant I would visit again. The quality of the food does not justify the price point. The clean dishes are located on the bottom shelf, below the food, and workers would sweep right next to the clean dishes. For $135+/person (if you're a member), this is not worth it. You get a discount on parking after getting validated. Overall, a disappointing experience.

This was my second visit, and it was even better than my first time! The food was excellent and completely worth the price for good quality Wagyu beef and seafood. I especially loved the oxtail dumplings appetizer. I ordered from the Standard Menu, which was more than enough to satisfy my Wagyu and seafood cravings. What made the meal extra special was the staff. Their exceptional service worked together like a beautiful orchestra. Gigi, Joe, Nessie, and the young man replacing the grill are all absolute gems--so warm, professional, friendly, and helpful. I'll definitely be back

Ask the Community - Niku X

What the fee you charge for cancelling a reservation a few hours before the reservation? For a party of 4?

Yes, if you cancel too close to the reservation time. The timing varies by type of reservation. Generally cancelling more than 24 hours before will avoid fees. Amount of the fee depends on the experience you booked.

Can someone help me explain the menu price?my mom only eat can seafood , which menu is included the lobster, crab ... thanks in advance.

The menu is AYCE seafood and meat all included, so not just for meat or seafood alone. Lots of seafood options from lobster, crab legs, shrimp and signature dishes served by request. Definitely ok to bring someone who only eats seafood.

    Is there a hidden cost?

The cost is $159 per person for the full menu or $119 per person for a limited menu. Not all items were available when I was there last week (no oysters) and some items were limited to only one per person.

Is the quality of foods still good for a late reservation at 830pm? Do any selections run out by then?

No they have a schedule for everything. Crab legs lobster tails etc. Sometimes they run out but you just have to wait for next restock exp legs come out at 830 and at 915 something like that they have it posted by station

Is this omakase or a buffet? I see set menus, but also a ayce option. How is the meat quality?

It's a buffet, you choose what to eat. For me, it was over-rated. Not worth the money.

    Are there many vegan options?

    No.

    What is the dress code?

    Casual

    How much for 1?

Do we make reaervation for tomorrow?

Is it one griddle per table We have 7 guests?

Maybe two because it's in the middle of table

How to accommodate party of 1 & can u dine at bar but how would meat get grilled?

You will get a table. No grilling at the bar.

When making reservations on their website can anyone tell me what the choices mean? One says steakhouse selection, Other selection , BBQ buffet... We just want the regular buffet selection ($99)..

There is a menu it's divided in three sections the most expensive is the third section for about $149 with tax about $175 for one person. Everything is included. It wasn't what I expected there was hardly any seafood available everyone kept asking… Read more

Does the Tomohawk and Seafood buffet come with the A5 wagyu you can order for the grill as well as the buffet wagyu you get from the buffet bar?

The seafood and A5 Wagyu come with both buffet options. The Tomohawk is only available with the Steakhouse option.

    Do you do walk in?

Depends on the availability, reservations is highly recommended

No one answered my call Im trying to make reservations?

    Go to their website instead

Are kids welcomed if so how much?

ADULTS AND KIDS ARE THE SAME PRICE. MY 2 COINS, PLEASE DONT BRING THE KIDS. I DID NOT SEE ANY KIDS WHEN I WAS THERE. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY SO LEAVE THE MUNCHKINS AT HOME.

    Are the crab legs cold?

    Yes, they are cold

How much does the Sashimi, A5 Wagyu, King Crab, and Lobster costs?

So, my dinner was $140 each and I got all of the above, we also opted for the full-service.

I decided to go with the Mongolian hot bar I piled on cabbage, all vegetables with one egg and house sauce. I tried the fruit the watermelon and cantaloupe wasn't sweet, however, the honeydew was really yummy. They have a boba drink station I tried the passion tea it was good. My boyfriend tried their desserts he liked the three layer mouse cake. I wasn't aware the Restaurant in LA charge a 10% service fee when I saw it on the bill I immediately was going to question it however, I googled first and basically the restaurants have to post it before charging you. When we walked in we didn't notice the signs on the wall if you don't pay attention you will miss the notice as you walk in. The 10% is to help the owner offset gratuity and healthcare for the employees so you have no choice but to pay it even if you didn't see the posting on the wall. They also have a sign to say a tip is not required because of the service fee.

I actually had to try & cancel but was literally 20 minutes late through the email & OpenTable does not it give you an internet option to cancel after the 48hrs. It says, "For any changes or cancellations please CALL" But good luck with that for no one actually answers the phone, this is done on purposes in my opinion. I tried calling at least 40 times from Thursday to late Friday! Just remember when they say you can cancel up to 48hrs they do not mean 48hrs & 1 second later. That choice to do an online cancellation WILL close at 48hrs even. Self parking is weird too. Not the parking part but leaving it's sort of a pain. They give you the typical ticket but they also give you a complimentary QR Code that pays for the parking which is great! But the reader sucks & you got a bunch of people lining up behind you. It worked but there needs to be a better system. I suggest paying a little more & just valeting. Pro's: We ended saying screw it let's go! Pro's the traffic that Saturday was ridiculously crazy more than usual through Downtown LA but we got there 20 minutes late & feared the worst. But they honored our reservation. Let me say the service was IMPECCABLE, our server was on it every step of the way, very kind, friendly & funny! The food was kind of what I expected, more like a Bacchanal at Caesars in Vegas. & it some ways even better. I felt the quality & food prep & cooking was totally worth it, except for the crab legs. A little too salty like they cooked it too long in salt!!! Everything else was excellent. Probably one of the best lamb chops I've had from a buffet or anywhere else. The lobster was also excellent & I can see that the lobster was the main call not the crab legs judging by other tables plates. It was well worth it. Would I drive in that LA traffic again from South OC anytime soon? NO! But maybe next year! LOL!

Having been to my fair share of "Asian-style" buffets, FuJi is better than most. The quality of the…read morefish used for their sushi is nothing to balk at. I could fill-up on their salmon sashimi alone (I definitely get a plate to start with) & be decently satisfied. That said, there's so much here to be pleased with. It's no secret that many buffets have done away with crab legs. Sometimes, I wonder how many populations of crab my family has decimated alone. But I have to admit, during this visit I've literally never seen 2 people put away so many crawfish - (in my humble opinion, the "poor man's lobster"). I'm not trying to exaggerate, but I feel like these 2 people alone put crawfish on the endangered species list. There's a decent variety of Sushi, Asian-American, American, & a grill-to-order-station. The dessert selection has a decent variety of fruits, your standard buffet pastries, & an unmistakable ice cream freezer (to scoop from gallons). Pro-Tip: When scooping ice-cream, it always helps to dip the scooper & rinse it under the running facet - it also helps to prevent cross contamination of different flavors. Another tip: Don't even think of trying to "sneak-in" crab legs onto your plate by only paying the lunch price - the staff always knows who has paid for the extra price of dinner.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of buffets, but this place is pretty decent!…read more On a Monday around 6:30PM, there's a line going into the parking lot, but that's due to In-n-Out (trick is to go around them if the coast is clear lol). Fuji itself was probably like 40-50% occupied and there was plenty of parking. For $37 (and 20% for seniors on Mon/Tues), I thought it was pretty worth for the amount of food we ate. - Korean rib (grill): thinly cut, tender, and nicely marinated (even when you don't ask for any special sauces). so yummy to eat it fresh off the grill - snow crab: i prefer eating this hot than chilled, and it hit the spot! meaty, sweet crab. they refilled this often - cajun seafood: not too salty! includes mussels, shrimps, thin corn cobs which I actually prefer - crawfish: nicely marinated and tasty but dry meat ); parents said the last time they had this here a month ago it was better - salmon sashimi was also restocked and tasted fresh - Fish maw soup/chowder: both were tasty as well - matcha ice cream: yummm - lots of fresh fruit options: blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, cherries even Other selections are standard and not bad. Dim Sum is unique but usually not done well so I didn't even bother. Chicken feet isn't bad tho Bathrooms could be cleaner and service was slooow. We maybe saw our waiter like 3 times? He only cleared our plates once and he never offered us water refills, which we had to actively flag him down for. It wasn't busy as it was a Monday and we were the only table in that seating area (lower level by the Mongolian grill)

Date: July 10, 2026…read more Favorites: Snow Crab Seafood Boil Corn and Sauce Clams Pistachio Almond Ice Cream Milk Tea Experience: My husband was feeling ravenous, so he decided we should give this place a try. We came around 5pm, so we were quickly seated with only a handful of tables occupied. We ordered our drinks and made our way around the location to figure out what they had. They had ice cream and boba tea in the back corner, then came the dim sum options, hot foods, items for the grill, sushi, desserts with a chocolate fountain, and a mixture of cold items, such as fruits, seafood, and more desserts. Right away I got a plate of snow crabs and noticed the seafood boil the had shrimp and corn, so I got one of that as well the clams and some pieces of sushi. The crab legs were easy to open though I did have my husband request for crab cracker to help me with the harder pieces. I definitely preferred dipping the crab meat into the seafood boil sauce than the melted butter they had. The clams were pretty good as well, so I made sure to get a second round of them with the snow crabs. I did dabble in trying other foods, but preferred my seafood combo that I got. Once I had my fill with savory, I tackled the sweets and buffets are always fun to try new desserts but overall my fave was just good ol' pistachio almond ice cream with my milk tea. Overall, a good experience with both the restroom and dining area being clean. Staff was nice, but definitely need to catch their attention for refills and anything else you need that isn't taking away your used plates or the bill cause they were on my for those.

Shiki is your average Asian/Seafood buffet showcasing mainly Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cuisine…read more We were in the area to celebrate a milestone birthday with a large party lunch (60+ guests). We were placed in a semi-private area. The restaurant had ample indoor seating and was fairly spacious to move around. If you've been to other Asian buffets, you'll know what to expect at reasonable prices. The Hits: - Fire-grilled BBQ station (steak, galbi (short ribs), pork belly, and squid) - Variety of sushi and rolls (average quality for the nigiri) - Dim sum options (popular items that get refilled regularly) - Desserts and fruits - 16 flavors of ice cream - Coffee and boba station The Misses (that I tried) - the orange chicken (flavor was off and bland) - fried chicken wings (looked good and crispy, but they were bland and had no seasoning) Service and staff were great. From taking drinks orders to clearing used plates, they were fairly attentive to everyone in the party. The food was refilled at decent times as well. There were plenty of seniors dining here since there's a special price for seniors. Reservations are recommended for large parties or peak dining times (dinner and weekends). This was our first time here, and it was a pleasant experience overall. It's a decent Asian buffet if you're in the area. A solid 3.5/5 rating.
