I've been wanting to try this place for ages, so I finally stopped in for lunch this week. I had my dog with me, so we sat outside. It was perfectly pleasant, though be warned: foot traffic passes just a few feet away. I kicked things off with a martini, which was excellent--surprisingly generous by today's standards and a real deal at $12. For starters, I had the Caesar salad. Think tuxedo at a pool party: definitely overdressed. But it was delicious, and I'd order it again--just with light dressing. The fish sandwich was fine, nothing more. I couldn't help thinking McDonald's might edge them out on the Filet-O-Fish (though it's been decades, so who knows). It wasn't bad; I'd just try something different next time. read more

Came here for a group birthday dinner and it was pretty quiet on a weekday night (same night the Dodgers won the series). Everything we tried I enjoyed for the most part. Parking is brutal in the area so expect to be circling around for a bit. They have a late happy hour which are half off oysters which is nice! We tried a set of raw oysters - rockefeller, small but might in flavor and meatiness. Shucking was done well too. Grilled octopus - pricey for the amount you get, but cooked well. Accompaniments like potatoes were OK, but could have more mushroom. Shell pasta - the pasta was homemade cause it tasted so light. I think the sauce was a little too light for me as well, but overall still a solid dish. Cioppino - Also a little lighter in flavor and I think just smaller in size in comparison to price. Seafood is fresh though, and that's clear in every dish here. Lonely Louie - the star of the night. I loved how fresh and bright this was. Located in the heart of echo park just off Sunset, the Lonely Oyster is serving up fresh, tasty seafood inside of a nautical themed restaurant. The inner dining area is literally modeled off a boat, and I loved how the booths and windows really created that illusion. They do have oysters but they also have a variety of surf and turf options. I was craving something really fresh and bright, so I tried the Tuna Crudo. The Tuna was served with a yuzu vanilla sauce that I probably could have eaten with absolutely anything. The yuzu flavor was super zingy and brought out the freshness of the tuna. Loved their Caesar salad, it was piled with parmigiano cheese and the dressing was on point. Our servers were all very attentive and friendly. Tried the pulpo (octopus) with mushrooms for the main, it was really rich and fresh. Next time I come back I want to try one of their wagyu dishes. read more

My brother brought me here and I didn't have high expectations considering I'm not a huge fan of oysters. We were seated immediately and given water to start. The ambiance is cute and the staff were friendly. I immediately noticed the bar had one of my favorite additive free tequilas so I ordered a drink and the Cesar salad. The salad was good, it was plated as a whole with the typical fixings for a Cesar salad and was grilled. The salad was unique, I think it had dehydrated sardines but, I could be wrong. It added a nice salty bite and paired well with the overall salad. My brother ordered the oysters which he loves. This is his go to spot when he's hungry for oysters. Had been meaning to visit for a while and finally made time to the other night. Had a reservation, so we got in right away. As usual, had to start out with cocktails. The matcha-tini was decent, could have been a little more matcha forward but the coconut cream paired with it added a nice dynamic. The Caped Crusader, on the other hand, was interesting, much stronger and it was hard to pick out the different ingredient notes. Definitely wasn't our favorite Also has to grab a couple appetizers to get a well rounded idea of the food. The scallop crudo was nice and refreshing, cut thinly without a whole lot of "fluff" to distract from natural flavor of the scallop itself. Would I order it again though? Probably not. The surf & turf tartare was really good with the trout roe on top giving nice pops of salt. Just a nice bite. The seafood chowder was also good with a variety of shellfish meat inside. For entrees we got the lobster roll trio and the TLO Burger. The lobster roll trio came with three styles of lobster roll: an original, Louisiana style and a miso-brown butter. The original was just that, original, but the brown butter really stood it. The Louisiana had a little spice to it, which was also fun. The TLO Burger was also very good, using a short rib blend of meat, paired with caramelized onions, house made pickles and ample amounts of American cheese. Can never go wrong with ample cheese, unless you're lactose intolerant, then yes, you can go wrong. Overall, really good food, all items were very flavorful. The matcha-tini was interesting but I'd skip the Caped Crusader and try something else. If you're around Echo Park and looking for a good meal, definitely stop by the Lonely Oyster. read more

We had dinner more than a month ago, so I don't recall too many details. Service was adequate, and we enjoyed the food. The Seafood Chowder had a lot of different seafood, more appetizing than your typical clam chowder. Hubby had the Lonely Louie salad, very fresh. They certainly did not skimp on the ingredients. I tried the Lobster Roll Trio, each in a different style, a good way to sample Miso-Brown Butter, Maine & Louisiana. I couldn't pick a favorite. We ended the night with Atlantic Pie, which is similar to key lime pie. No complaint there. This is a good place for seafood. The patio is dog friendly. Street parking in the area can be difficult. Months ago we learned there is a new chef and certain menu items would be discontinued. Even so, I was extremely disappointed to hear they took away their beloved beef tartare which is the best we've had in our lives. We always get multiple orders of it when we come here. We excitedly brought a foodie friend here and finished dinner embarrassed for the entire experience. The food for new menu items was a terrible value. $65 for a NY strip that couldn't have been more than 4-6oz. Mushroom risotto for $36 that was sparse and underwhelming in flavor and portion. The only redeeming item was their cocktail shrimp. Large and fresh with a great bite and price of $25 for 5 pieces felt proportionate. We left hungry despite ordering 6 items to share between 3 (2 are small eaters). Service was... serviceable? But super weird vibes and kept feeling like we were an obligation or nuisance being there. Parking is a nightmare if you come at regular dining hours. We once spent 45 mins looking for a spot and ended up a very far walk away. Best to ride share here. It's bad business when the chef/owner doesn't take care of existing customers and makes too great of an overhaul to the menu. What once felt like was a place that cared about its food and created recipes that made your tastebuds dance and begging for more, this now feels like a soulless, uncreative money grab. Came here after it the restaurant popped up on my IG feed and knew I had to try it for myself. Reservations were easy to make online and when I arrived, the restaurant wasn't too busy so I was seated pretty quickly. The server provided me with recommendations for my first time and I had mainly small bites to savor a little bit of everything. Everything I tried was delicious, the drink although aesthetically pleasing, was just okay. I first discovered this place on a TV show, so I saved it. A friend generously gifted me a gift card. My daughter and I finally made the hour-long drive. The restaurant is located on a busy side street off Sunset Blvd, with minimal street parking. We ended up parking in the shopping center across the street. Midway through our meal, the lights were dimmed further, which made reading the menu and seeing our food a bit challenging. We had a 5pm reservation, arrived on time, and were seated quickly. However, it seemed like service would be a bit slow since there was only one server managing both the indoor and outdoor sections. As the evening went on and the place filled up, the service slowed down. We had to flag down the server a few times, but they were always friendly. Here's what we ordered: -Pisco in a Pear Tree Martini - A nice pear flavor, but too sweet. -Caviar Bump - The texture was mushy and not worth the price. -Uni-Cavi Wonton - I didn't try it, but my daughter thought it was just okay. -Calamari - something tasted off...maybe the oil? -Seafood Chowder - This was delicious! And for a lonely bar girl myself i appreciate the bar snack options of the bar menu. A oyster trio is a perfect size when you don't trust yourself in eating 12 oysters and at a very reasonable price. I came with my girlfriend and my dog and the outdoor patio was meh if I'm being honest; outdoor ambiance wasn't pleasant mostly because of the smell and also none of the heaters were on even when it was cold and windy. There was a few times when our waiter got our order and came back and said it was either sold out or wasn't available anymore which was a bit disappointing. As for the food, we got 6 glacier point oysters, salmon crudo, and uni cavi wontons. Oysters were really good, salmon was alright but wasn't worth it for me, and the wonton was especially good but took awhile to get to our table. I found seafood heaven! I recently stopped by and absolutely loved it! Everything here is so delicious. We started off our meal with a caviar bump and a ceviche mixto. This was followed by a luxurious seafood tower: The Captain. The tower had lobster, clams, mussels, oysters, uni, salmon crudo, ceviche, and scallop aguachile. We also tried the king crabby cavi-bombs, dorado shrimp tacos, lobster roll trio, and the lobster paccheri. The paccheri pasta is made fresh and in-house. Such a tasty labor of love! The pasta was cooked perfectly and it carried the sauce well. I was in the mood for a martini, so I paired my meal with various martinis from their cocktail menu. And there was a cockaroach going up and down the walls until they killed it. The ended up giving us a free dessert because of that. I will say I did have the best martini of my life. We went here for my daughter's graduation lunch. The food was flavorful overall, but portion sizes are quite small. The fresh oysters were indeed fresh but barely had any flesh to them. Clam chowder was yummy and rich, pasta with clams delicious but tiny, surf and turf tartare was minuscule as was the scallop ceviche- 2 thin slices for $24 if I recall? Steak frites was fairly good but ours at home is yummier. My favorite was the mussels. They were plump, sauce was on point with the grilled slice of bread. Had this place on our list for a while now and are happy we've tried it out. The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. But, I have to say for the price and portion sizes I would've preferred going to Water grill in DTLA. There isn't anything bad per se, but the options are super limited and typically high quality oysters fill you up pretty quickly. We've had oysters all over the East and west coast and that much is true regardless of establishment style. The pro of the lonely oyster over other places is that there isn't a "dress code" so jeans and a tee are fine. However, you still have to find parking and forget about it if there is a dodger game or farmers market happening. Otherwise, I personally would just take dressing nicer and go somewhere else. We might come back, if my wife has a hankering for oysters and we don't want to dress up. But not somewhere we would actively plan to go otherwise. read more

Worst dinner in years. A friend suggested this place so we went there tonight. First it's extremely hard to find parking around. The food was terrible, nothing literally NOTHING was good tonight. The kanpachi Cruso was fishy and only had 3 paper thin slices and I suspect it's hamachi and not kanpachi. The worst of the worst was the Uni Toast, 70% was just saggy toast and a think layer of uni paste on top of super sour cream that totally threw us off. And the pasta was so blended had to ask our waiter for salt. At this point, I don't even want to contribute to write this review. Overall experience is less than 1 star and price is opposite, it's about $650 for 5 ppl. And the cocktail was also mediocre to best. I have never been this disappointed with any restaurant in LA since I moved here back in 1999. I hope the owner of this place will realize this and do something about it. read more

I've been to the lonely oyster twice and have not been disappointed! I love coming here and wish it was closer to the west side. It's tucked in silver lake near echo park next to cross roads. I wish the spot was bigger because when it gets busy it gets busy and packed! They have outdoor seating which is cool but it's too close the street for my liking. Very disappointed in my most recent experience. I was hoping to make this one of my go to spots. Second time here may be my last. Service with Logan was lack luster, still left 20%, but it was like pulling teeth. There was another server there that was sweet and seemed happier to be there.
