I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Mexicali Tires in Simi Valley was absolutely terrible from start to finish. First off, the technician had zero customer service skills. He looked completely fed up with his job and made it clear he didn't want to be there. I then asked another man--who I'm assuming was the owner--for a quote on a set of new tires. He couldn't even look me in the eye when he gave me the price. While completely looking away from me, he threw out a confident quote of $2,000 for the exact same tires that multiple other separate shops have quoted me $1,000 for. A 100% markup is just pure greed, and he couldn't even confidently back up his own numbers to my face. To top it all off, the checkout process was a joke. I walked up to the counter and greeted the older woman with a smile, only to get a miserable, stern look back. When I tried to tell her I needed to pay for a tire patch, she couldn't even hear me because she was blasting YouTube videos of nasal canals at full volume on her computer. After I had to repeat myself several times to get her attention, she told me a simple plug patch was $35. Charging $35 for an external plug--when reputable shops actually remove the tire and patch it properly from the inside for less--is absurd. When I questioned the $35 price, she gave me a defensive, condescending attitude and said, "Yes, a lot of people go to different places and act surprised when they see the price." I called triple a for a tow and asked to take me to Mexicali tires. Prior to heading there I called and asked if they had my size in tires and asked for the price, $80 for used 255/R17's . Once I am dropped off there, I am told it'll be $100 by employee. I tell him I'd pay cash, so if he could compromise and do no tax and $80?. Employee agrees. Once is time to pay, the lady, whom I assume is the owner, asks me to pay with card. I tell her I don't carry a card and it'll be 343. She goes on to show me a notebook with entries- to point out she keeps record for tax purposes. The owner says she pays taxes and labor can be discounted not inventory. All in Spanish. I tell her I understand her, I am a corporate accountant. Thus entries for tax purposes shouldn't be done in the manner she's doing them and I'd gladly accept her business if she'd like. She said to ask my mom, or someone, I tell her that her employee agreed upon a price for service and inventory. She accepts the $320, oh yes! I bought four tires!!! SHE REFUSED TO GIVE ME A RECEIPT OVER $13 (which by the way tax on $320 is 12.40 ). Aaaaaaaand why this review?!? The recently bought tires from Mexicali Tires one just completely started deflating because the side wall has a rip! Jesus Joseph and Mary!! I called and no answer! But yesterday I went there to have two tires mounted that I purchased online the technician completely scratched up the clearcoat on my F350 wheels. If I could give a zero star I would. I came here for used tires because I'm a broke college student and it was all I could afford. I used these tires for about a month and I had to fill them with air once every week. I finally got enough money to go to big brand tires to have them inspected because I knew it wasn't right. They told me that the tires on the rear were 12 years old and the tires on the front were a completely different size. I went down to ask for a refund or at least to get the right sized tires put on, but all they did was yell in my face and tell me "no guarantee". I came here with a very small leak in my tire on a Sunday, because my usual place was closed. They charged me $38 for the patch. Two days later it was flat again and when I took it to my usual place, they said they had patched the tire so badly that it caused irreparable damage and I needed a new tire. After experiencing a flat tire accompanied by a defunct spare, Mexicali Tires came as a recommendation from Pep Boys (660 E Los Angeles Ave, Simi Valley, CA 93065) The owner highly recommended Mexi Cali Tires and told me that they were extremely affordable and professional and that it would be worth my while to get my car towed there. I called the shop before committing and was met with great customer service. I own a classic car and tire shops do not always carry the size that I need but Mexi Cali had 1 of them and were willing to hold it for me until my tow truck arrived. The service was extremely quick. We contacted this shop at 4pm on a Monday for a tire we were looking for. They said they had it and told me it would be $50 and I told them I would be there in 15 minutes. The man on the phone replied with "oh today? We're closing" I asked him what time he closed and the man just replied with "soon." He was not very friendly but I needed the tire so I told him if I can go before they close and he agreed. I get there and check the tire out, I find out it's used. At this point I really need the tire so I agree and when it's time to pay he said the total was $60... I then told him that on the phone he said $50 and he shook his head and said no, it's $60. The two stars is due to them being able to change two tires on the spot and filling the other two with air. My father had come in a couple days before me and got tired for $30 a tire. I showed up to get mine replaced for the same price EXCEPT the woman at the register was very rude about inflating the price to charge me $50 a tire. I was only able to change two of them, she them told me it would be $120. I asked for a price breakdown since they told me that tires were $50 each. She went into a long rant about how gas prices are higher and therefore they have to charge me more. When it came time to pay, the total was $110, NOT $120. She took my $100 dollar bill in cash and rang my card up for $10 and ONLY gave me a receipt for the amount that was charged on my car ($10). SHADY place with confusing prices and horrible communication. Unless you have an emergency, I wouldn't recommend coming here. Did I mention I was only able to get USED tires? I figured I was very lucky to find a almost new tire at Mexicali tire that matched the other 3 tires. I also have custom black power coated wheels which cost $350 each and the guy managed to gouge and scratch up on 5 to 6 places, which I didn't really notice till later. Then the guy was going to put the wheel on without balancing. Can you imagine how much a 22 inch tire could hop around on my Cadillac? Now he doesn't even clean the wheel where he's going to apply the weights. Then to top it off he told me he needed cash...gee, I wonder why? So I had to walk across the street to get money from the 7/11! As I'm walking back I notice 5 or 6 silver scratches on my black wheels. Now I'm really pissed but it didn't matter because the guy didn't speak a word of english. I use to come here every time I needed used tires but last few times they told me one price over the phone and try and charge me a different price after they put it on. About 4 months ago I brought some wheels that I had dismounted from my car because i planned on painting them. In order to paint them I needed to take off the tires so I drove over and asked him how much he would charge me to remove the tires from the wheels. The man wanted to charge me $15 to remove each tire...asked if if he was kidding and that I really wanted to know how much and he said he wasn't kidding and asked me if I wanted to get it done or not. I'm sorry but $60 to removed 4 tires which is 10 minutes of work tops is ridiculous. Not to mention that he had 0 customers at the time and was sitting down doing absolutely nothing when I got there . I ended up leaving pissed off and didn't end up painting my wheels. . Fast forward to today when I decided I would try a different tire shop. (If you must know Tonys tires) which they charged me $5 per tire and did it in less then 5 minutes As a former restaurant owner I know the impact a negative review can have on a business and try to avoid doing so because I understand the frustration and stress that comes with a business but sometimes some businesses go to far.
