My daughter chose O'Rears to make her wedding cake. It was a disaster. So very very disappointing. It looked like it had been bounced around. Icing was falling off . Just a complete fail on their part. read more

A cute little family owned bakery located near downtown Lafayette. They have a large variety of items- doughnuts, specialty cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and pastries. The staff is super friendly, and go out of their way to be nice and get you what you need. I got a Turtle Brownie and a Red Velvet cupcake, and while they aren't the best I've ever had, they are moist and delicious and are definitely worth trying. Put this place in your list!! They are open during the stay at home order, and everything is prepared in individual packages so that germs are at a minimum, and they have disinfectant readily available. read more

I've tried to go here several times and they are never open. The hours on the door aren't accurate, nor are they correct on Google, or Google Maps. Please simply update your information so customers can find you and don't waste time showing up only to find you closed. read more

No thanks. Just because the place has been here for 40 years dosent mean the pastries should be around that long too. Doughnuts are about par with the gas station. Pastries are not well cared for: 1) Canolli was soggy. 2). cream puff was cold, hard, and the cream was lumpy. Cakes don't "look" appetizing, but I did not try one. Back-room was clearly not well cleaned, and the building smells very musty. I won't be back. read more

Dry and disappointing. The staff member behind the counter was friendly. When we arrived they were nearly out of donuts. I opted to go with an apple fritter. It was dry, and I didn't encounter a single bit of apple when I ate it. I couldn't finish it. It was that bad. read more

This Sunday on June 26th 2016 I picked up a cake for my son for his Birthday it was so dry. I have gotten cakes from there since I was a kid. Since they have gotten a new owner tge place has went down hill. This is tge second time they have screwed up a cake for my family now. Everytime you put a negative comment on their Facebook page the owner ends up deleting it. I will never go back here ever again. read more

When we moved to Lafayette a year ago, we stopped by Orear's after school to surprise the kids with a treat. We met with the owner and ended up receiving a tour of the bakery. I will have to say that I was impressed with the shop given its small size. However the owner was extremely nice and her items are delicious. The kids love the cookies and I can't resist the pastries. Like any fresh bake shop, timing is critical in getting the freshest items. We also have bought 4 cakes and this is where Orear's stands out. The baker can replicate any design and the cakes are moist and delicious. Her icing is also tops. Not sure about any of the previous ratings, but our experience has been great. We will continue to order our specialty cakes from this shop. read more

This is a real-deal locally owned hard working bakery. I have been coming here since about 1963 and it is essentially unchanged thought the owners have changed over the years. In high school my buddies and I would often stop by on the way back to school after having eaten lunch at Grovers, McCords or Puratin Coney Island. We would get a butterscotch brownie, a creme horn, or a turnover. After college one of my roommates worked as a baker at Orear's, going in to start work every day at 4:00 am so there would be fresh baked goods every morning. I had the opportunity to have a tour and see the big mixers and the giant oven. It was impressive. Our roomie often brought us home goof-ups or day-old baked goods. It was great! Today the things I stop by for are the Mexican wedding cakes (they come by the dozen neatly wrapped in bakery paper), pineapple upside-down cake, cherry tarts, and the German chocolate cake. You will be delighted with any of these. I also love their seasonal and holiday sugar cookies. They always have the brightly colored sugar sprinkled cookies in fun shapes for whatever season it is. Your kids love them, and they taste great. For me going into Orear's is a sweet time machine, but you can sure taste the difference between Orear's fresh quality product and the stuff that is pumped out of those big factory-type operations. read more

Have gone here for years and it keeps changing, not for the better. The donuts are dry & the cakes are dry. There's not much variety in cookies or pies like they used to have. I do love the florentines & hubby the bon-bons though. read more

Not impressed. The cute exterior downtown drew me in, but when I went in I found much to be desired. The baked goods didn't seem too appealing. The one employee was a sweet older lady sitting in the lobby who was very helpful though. I don't see any reason to return. read more

Went here about a month ago. Was excited to get a chance to return to a place I used to like a lot. Well, apparently there is a new owner or manager. Unfortunately, this place has gone very far downhill. Amongst other items, got a few donuts. Tasted like they were three days old. My birthday cakes have come from here since I was a kid. It was taken over a few years ago by new owners and the quality isn't as high but it is still the best bakery in town. Good prices for sheet cakes and we always grab some iced sugar cookies, cream horns, or other tasties to nibble on the way home. read more

Ordered a sheet cake dry, ordered a dark chocolate cake a different time wasn't anything about the cake correct. Found out if u give a bad review on thier facebook the owner deleats them. I will never be spending $35 on a sheet cake from them again so sad used to be great. read more

I have been away from Indiana for many years, but remember as a kid going into this bakery and buying what I believe was called a Canasta cake. It was a three layer chocolate or devil's food with creamy white filling, covered in chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles. I have been trying to duplicate this recipe for years. I have purchased cakes from O"Rears for 50 years (they were always moist, wonderful tasting icing, and beautifully decorated) , but I will never go back again. Last one was disgusting!! Icing tasted like lard, cake was "dense and dry", and cake was not even decorated as requested!! I gave them the benefit of the doubt the last few times, but my experience continued to get worse each time. For the Last one I was given my money back, but that did not save the fact that it ruined the birthday celebration at the time. read more

I stopped in to inquire about cakes prices for an event. The place smelled of warm sugar and dough, and was very quaint. The counter attendant was entirely accommodating and kind, which was lovely. When I discovered they didn't have what I was seeking (a fondant covered cake), I turned my attention to sampling some of their wares. I decided to pick up a few cookies, brownies and creme horns, and a frosted angel food cake for my grandmother. The first thing I noticed on the ride home was the the incredible amount of oil that the paper bag had absorbed from touching a small bit of the creme horn creme. That was slightly off-putting. But then after tasting them, each of the products themselves were very dry, almost stale. The angel food cake itself was quite good, but it was slathered in a not-so-delicious frosting that tasted like sweetened Crisco. read more

What Happened!? Having lived in Lafayette until 2007 O'Rears was the place to go for pastry. Back in Lafayette yesterday my husband purchased a coffee cake to bring home. Horrible!! So hard had to use a butcher knife to cut. Popped in microwave to soften up and took a bite...MOLDY!!! You should be ashamed to even have that in your store. You can bet I won't be missing O'Rears again. I heard it had gone downhill but never imagined they'd be selling rotten pastry. Can't tell you how disappointed I am. read more

Was there this morning when they first opened their doors. Said good morning wasn't greeted back just stared at. Said I was excited to have just made and very fresh donuts and pastries but apparently they were made the night before. Asked for help with flavors on different donuts and different fillings and the lady working had no idea what any of the stuff was. Every donut flavor was just "that's a type of berry since it's red probably strawberry, raspberry, or cherry." I looked at the coffee cakes on the counter to the far right and was excited because I love coffee cake then noticed green fuzz on the inside of two of the four bags. The donuts I ended up getting were all ones I have had before yet this time they seemed to have used bad oil/stale oil, which had a very distinct taste. And I'm not picky when one donut tasted bad and I couldn't eat it I tried the next because being who I am I assumed that maybe it was just a mistake and not everything or every bakers batch can be perfect, but every donut tasted this way. The Danishes were absolutely dry and rock hard and the "cherry, strawberry, or raspberry" filling was literally the consistency cold DOTS candy. And the cheese Danish filling was crusty and hard on top, and extremely greasy and with a cornstarchy gooey consistency. read more

I have lived in the greater Lafayette area for roughly 20 years, and have never once seen O'rears actually open. I had the misfortune of trying one of their scone-looking pastries that I got from the gas station across the street. It was stale, the filling was over-sweet and it left that weird mouth-covered-in-lard feeling. Never again. Next time I have a craving for sweets, I'll hit Mary Lou Donuts or Mama Ines bakery. .. or even Vienna Coffeehouse. read more

Ordered my wedding cake here. The cake flavors were well done as was the icing. But the quality stopped there. They did not decorate as requested, leaving off promised icing flowers & topper. They failed to place topper that was left at store to be placed on cake on the cake . When delivered at the reception site, their staff placed topper on the table, not on the cake. 1/2 sheet cake was to have 1 flower per piece - only corners of cake were decorated. They did not provide a box to store the anniversary cake, reception site had NEVER had this happen before. Owners failed to communicate with me after numerous attempts. Had to resolve by disputing through the credit card. Very unprofessional. I do not reccommend using O'Rears for weddings! read more

Such a cute place and always has delicious cookies cakes and more! Maybe not the best place for anything out of the ordinary or fancy but perfect for the everyday sweet tooth. They have a variety of cupcake flavors and their prices are beyond reasonable. There is the sweetest older lady who works there and has since I was a kid and she is always so nice and hospitable. read more

I ordered a white cake from here last week and the cake was one step above terrible. Icing was good, which is what made it edible. What happened to this place. 10 years ago they had the best cakes in the area. This is the 3rd bad cake I have had from them in the last couple years. Two of the three times it was at an event in which I didnt order the cake. But I thought I would give them one more chance. My mistake. I shouldnt have gone against my better judgement. The cake was dry and full of air pockets and tasted like box cake. Can you go back to making it the way it was made 10 years ago? Just an added note. Everyone who ate these cakes who had eaten them years ago felt the same way I do. Its pretty bad when supermarket cakes are better than your cakes. read more

went for a taste test cause i was looking for a wedding cake.they baked 4 lil varieties. def. did not feel this place. the cake was really dry and butter cream was greasy and heavy. uhh no thanks.. but they did sell other lil treats like cookies and cupcakes. im wanting to go back and try those. maybe these are better? read more
