1st time visit, and I wanted to like this place badly and noticed the reviews were good, the Mexican restaurant's so far in Torrance, Lomita and San Pedro the Mexican food is surprisingly not that good to me, so I badly wanted to enjoy MR, Salsa and chips were okay Salsa 3.5 stars good enough Chips 2.5 stars not great, no salt I ordered the Carnitas burrito special on the menu, and unfortunately it was not good. Carnitas burrito 1 star The guacamole they put on top ruined everything, it was awful, not fresh at all, weird color, maybe they added lime to keep the green color, guac needs to be fresh. The fountain coke was awful, very flat! Should have a Mexican coke option to avoid flat drinks. The service was very good. 4.5 stars Ambiance was a little underwhelming also. Nothing special Unfortunately because of the food I'm being nice giving overall 3 stars Sorry to say won't make it back. read more

First time visiting and I honestly felt like a celebrity from the moment I walked in! We were immediately greeted by the host and seated right away. I didn't catch her name, but she was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. She constantly checked on us and made sure our chips, salsa, and water were always refilled. We ordered two breakfast burritos--a bacon, potato, and egg burrito, and a chorizo breakfast burrito. According to our receipt, I believe the cook's name was Vince, and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. The breakfast burritos were phenomenal and tasted IDENTICAL to the ones I make at home--which is one of the highest compliments I can give! Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. Mexican Riviera is truly a hidden gem in Torrance. The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. And I can't forget the micheladas--they were SO good! We were admittedly a little hungover and so eager to eat that we completely forgot to take photos of our food, which says everything about how much we enjoyed it. The decor is beautiful, the restaurant is spotless, and every detail of the space feels thoughtfully designed. It's clear that the staff takes pride in creating a great experience for their guests. Walked into Mexican Riviera and the vibrant colors alone made me feel like I'd been transported somewhere south of the border. Love that. I always pay attention to the chips and salsa because for me it's an early indicator of how good the food is going to be. They came out quickly, the salsa was really fresh, and the chips weren't overly greasy. Good sign. I ordered the wet bean and cheese burrito and on the server's suggestion went half red half green sauce. That was a great call, both were really good. The burrito was solid start to finish. Great little spot. We went for cinco de mayo and I was so happy there wasn't a line out the door for it, we sat quickly and got our food quickly. The owner is so kind, he was walking around talking to everyone, which I appreciate. It seemed like a lot of guests were regulars, which I also love. A true community gem. We got the cheese enchiladas which were delicious! We also got a chicken taco, I didn't love the taste of it, mostly dark meat chicken, it was good but not my vibe. I've gotten takeout here quite a few times over the years and usually order tacos or enchiladas. I'm leaving a 3 star review mainly because of how inconsistent my experiences have been over time. Some days the tacos are a good size and fairly well filled, and other times they barely have any filling at all. The quality of the cooking also varies. At times it's good, but other times the meat is dry or overcooked. Portion consistency with the sides is also hit or miss. You never really know how many chips you'll get, so I recommend checking before you leave. One time I ordered just a couple tacos and received several large chips, while another time I ordered much more food for two people and only got two chips total. What finally prompted me to write this review was my most recent visit. The salsas I was given were clearly rancid, and unfortunately all of them were affected. That was really disappointing and concerning from a food quality standpoint. This place has the potential to be good, which is why I've continued coming back over the years. I just wish the consistency and quality control were better, because it would make a big difference. read more

I went to Mexican Riviera on 12/5/25. I ordered one of the Friday specials the 2 Baja fish tacos with beans and rice for $14. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and shown a table. They had complementary chips and salsa. Rating 6/10 chips did not taste warm / fresh. Salsa was watery but good flavor. The rice and beans had a good flavor and a decent portion rating 9/10. The Baja fish tacos had a huge portion (see picture) of cold shredded cheese, red cabbage, tomato and under all of that they had a few pieces of the thin fried fish. They also did not serve lemon/ limes with the fish tacos I had to request. Rating for Baja fish tacos: 4/10 They also did not come to refill my water. The employees also seemed like they were playing with one another, hiding someone's phone, blaming each other, calling names. Overall they service was good and quick, the food is a good price with lots of options for specials. But if you want good authentic Mexican this is not the spot, there are much better places in the South Bay. I will not be back but I am glad I visited! read more

Have lived in the South Bay for 60 years and we don't venture down to the South side of Torrance too often to eat but someone told us about the Mexican Riviera so we decided to go. All of the workers were super nice and attentive. The chips and salsa were good which is a must in my book. We ordered the 3 street taco special (one chicken, one al pastor and one carnita) and all were yummy. And the rice are beans are solid. Will definitely be going back. read more

Mexican Riv has served up mediocre food with excellent service for years. For a long time, it was a good value and the service kept people loyal. The chips and salsa were always the highlight. The positive reviews here are mostly from the loyal South High network. Everything went bad for them late last year They had already raised menu prices significantly taking away the value. Then people started getting sick. Our family got violently ill immediately after eating here. Shortly after, the health department shut them down after a failed inspection. The report was pretty disgusting. They closed doors under the guise of a remodel, before opening back up. Their loyal fan base did their best to cover for them on here and on NextDoor. If you read the honest reviews from that time period, you will confirm this. Regardless, food is average and overpriced at this point. And it seems like a roll of the dice if you're going to get sick. With all of the other great Mexican spots on PCH, I would avoid this spot. read more

Or - you can get in your car and drive to Torrance and have the same thing. Wifey put me in charge of scouting a restaurant before braving the slammed-yet-festive Christmassy neighborhoods of Sleepy Hollow just to the west. So I hit my trusty Yelp app and made our discovery. It's a diamond in the rough! It has the feel of a family-owned op' and they do a great job, serving everyone with a smile. The ambiance is simple, unassuming. The food is REAL Mexican and it is happening. Nothing phoned in or hurried. And, yes, they serve alcohol. We have our favorite joints here in the Slauson/La Cienega area - gotta say, Mexican Riviera blew them all away. Cue the mariachis...we're headed to The Riviera, baby! read more

I'm back again to try their taco Tuesday specials. I picked 3 tacos for $7: Chicken taco - shredded chicken, good and simple. No special flavor really. The best part is the crunchy housemade taco and the fresh salsa, lettuce and cheese. This is true for all the tacos below too. Potato taco - the potato is just sliced potato pieces that look lightly sautéed, not deep fried like I was expecting. Despite that, it tasted good. Again, nothing special. Bean taco - This was fine too. Not bad, not great, no special flavor. All in all I'll still come back because the value was there. Nothing special but standard fare. Next time I may bring some extras of my own to add to these (guac from chipotle, ranch from cheesecake factory or The Habit etc). read more

I've lived in the South Bay my entire life but didn't discover this gem until recently. We were in need of a new place for tacos as prices are going up for mediocre food. We've heard about this place from social media and decided to give them a try. And it was the best decision! I love their tacos but these days I go for their egg, bean, and cheese burrito and it's a good sized portion. My family goes for their hard shell tacos and their enchiladas that are also pretty big portions for the price. My mom is obsessed with their horchata that we have to buy extra. 1x we placed an online order and it was missed but the staff made it up to us with extra beverages. They are usually very nice and welcoming when we order takeout. The best part of dining here is that we are supporting a small business! We will continue to order here (almost weekly) for our Mexican food fix. read more

Tonight being the first ones there only to watch others get served before we got served. Then after waiting the food was cold. We came here for my mother's birthday and it was absolutely wonderful. To start with: they allow pets. Our dog is a senior pup who has extreme separation anxiety. We adore him so much, and we were so happy to experience the restaurants fantastic atmosphere with him. Talking about ambiance, it's very relaxing with slow music. If you sit inside, you'll get a bustling restaurant, however if you sit out doors you'll get the nice beach breeze to accompany you. As for the service: absolutely amazing. They were so quick to take our order and made us feel welcomed. On top of this, they were accommodating to my small request of having red sauce instead of green sauce. If you have children, they are more than welcome to accommodate to them too. The food came in a timely manner. It was hot and fresh, definitely made here at the restaurant. My enchiladas were deliciously creamy and hot. My sister's dish (carnitas with red rice) was also magnificent. However, my mom (which is the whole reason we came here) said that her enchiladas with green sauce was not up to par with her standards. Her family is from Mexico, so she insisted that the green sauce is not authentic. Despite this, she loved loved LOVED the nachos she ordered and rates a 4 star. But for my review I'm giving it a 5! Green sauce aside, everything else was superb. I will be coming again. Quick note: they host some very fun events here as well. You can check them out when you come. I 100% recommend coming here.
