The process is easy, customers order at the window, pay, and wait outside where there are a couple tables to sit at while waiting for their orders. The main problem I found was the time it took to make a couple burritos. There were no customers in front of me and it took nearly thirty minutes to make two burritos. The other thing I noticed is the add ons really raised the price. The guacamole, etc are all extra charges on the the super burrito which in my eye makes no sense. Either it's a super or regular. Not super needing to have a ton of add ons to make it a super. But how was the burrito? Overall I thought the taste was good. Burrito was on the small side. But the ingredients seemed to be solid, and blended together nicely. Decent quality but for the price and wait time, I won't be rushing back.

All the meats were on the sweeter side, but much preferred the carnitas over the pastor. I usually order a super burrito , and what I didn't realize was that a super burrito here means a larger burrito. At first I was like , why is it $20 - then when I got it, it was so massive that it could feed a small family or for me it was multiple meals. The burrito itself was tasty, I thought the carne was good, again a little sweet tasting, but the rice beans and sour cream made the burrito simple yet good. I ate half for one meal, then saved the other for later. Overall, it's one of those spots that I'm glad I tried it, and if I was in the area, I'd try it again.

If you're getting tacos they're all the same price so the cashier will write the number of tacos you bought and you take that receipt and get in the line. Once you get called up you put your receipt in the basket that the worker hands you and tell them what kind of meat you want in your tacos. Today I tried the asada, carnitas, Al pastor, and tripa. They all were delicious, my favorite was the tripa. Portions are good ($4.50/taco) and they have a variety of salsas, jalapeños, limes, etc in the seating area once you exit. I also got a hibiscus (Jamaica) agua fresca that was good. They do accept credit card but they'll charge a $1 fee so try to bring cash if you can. Definitely recommend, this is now one of my top taco spots in Oakland.

Everything looked authentic, fresh, and incredibly appetizing. When it was finally my turn to order, I was especially pleased to see the variety of meats available. The suadero immediately caught my attention. It appeared to be the proper cut of meat--a cut that surprisingly few places in the Bay Area use, and even fewer seem to know how to cook properly. I also noticed that they use a traditional "disco"--the large, deep, circular pan with a dome-shaped center--to cook the suadero. At that point, my mouth was watering. We ordered a burrito, three asada tacos, two suadero tacos, two cabeza tacos (meat from cow's head), one lengua (beef tongue), and one tripa (beef small intestine). I also asked for some of the salsa available behind the counter where they serve your tacos, which turned out to be a delicious house-made habanero salsa. Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold. As appetizing as everything looked, the meats simply weren't executed as well as I had hoped. The asada was dry and overcooked. The suadero was dry, tough, and overcooked. I was particularly looking forward to the tripa, but instead of the crispy, rich, savory flavor I normally associate with a great tripa taco, these were soft, soggy, fatty, and somewhat bland. One of the biggest disappointments was that all of the different cuts seemed to taste almost exactly the same. Part of the appeal of ordering tacos like suadero, cabeza, lengua, and tripa is experiencing the distinct character of each cut. Unfortunately, those differences were largely lost here. By the end of the meal, the dominant flavor in my mouth was simply grease, which made it difficult for the individual meats to shine. That said, there is a lot to like about Taquería El Paisa. I absolutely loved the décor and overall ambience. The restaurant has a genuine feel of as if you were in a Mercado in Mexico City, and that atmosphere adds a lot to the experience. I also really enjoyed the salsa bar, which offers a great variety of traditional taco accompaniments. The house-made habanero salsa, in particular, is excellent--bright, flavorful, and seriously spicy. A few drops on each taco is more than enough. Seriously, resist the temptation to douse your taco in it! I think Taquería El Paisa has tremendous appeal and a potential for the best taqueria in the Bay Area. The atmosphere is authentic, the selection of meats is impressive, and the presentation initially builds a lot of anticipation. What I would love to see is a little more attention given to the cooking techniques and handling of each individual cut. Better control of the cooking time, texture, and perhaps work on mastering how the suadero, tripa, lengua, and cabeza can each maintain their own distinctive flavor and character. There's definitely something special here waiting to come through. With some refinement in the execution of the meats, Taquería El Paisa could really elevate the taco experience and turn that first impression of excitement into an equally impressive meal. Side note, is there a bathroom at this restaurant? I couldn't find one.

My review is a little late but I had my wedding on May 24th of 2014" memorial day weekend"on treasure Island and I hired Gabby and Hector "the Mexican taco party" to cater, and they were beyond awesome. Gabby is the most friendly and nice person I worked with when it was time for organizing my wedding. She answered every email, every call and was just very helpful. She sat down with me to understand the whole theme of my wedding and she also gave recommendations of other people that would be able to help. For example I wanted that whole Mexican taco party food theme; because if you know my husband and I we love tacos and so she went on to ask if I had desert and recommended someone who makes homemade churros. Gabby communicated with me and my venue management and made my big day run smooth. We had about 300 guest for our wedding and her catering team had more then enough food. They set up the tables to where there were no long lines waiting for food or drinks. The food was awesome I had chicken bbq pork and steak tacos with all the trimmings on the side. And everybody loved the horchata and guacamole. So I highly recommend hiring them for any event because if they can host my wedding of 300 and do a great job. I'm sure they can do a great job with you as well. So thanks again Gabby and Hector I will definitely be using you all again hopefully sooner then later. read more

Dear Gabby and Hector, Thank you!! You made our party so easy for me. This was a housewarming party and 85 people were expected (and came!). They arrived right on time and began to set up. We had no idea there was a canopy or how professional it would look. It looks professional because they are professional. We had the tacos, beans and rice. We provided the gauc, pico de gallo, napkins, plates - but they can and do provide all of those if you want. It was simply put the easiest party ever. I saw her a at the beginning to tell her where to set up. My husband was quite concerned about oil stains on the pavers on our patio. They set up and went right to work. The food was delcious. We had the tacos I(steak, chicken and carnitas). Everyone LOVED them!! I was so happy to get the leftovers. (My son was happier!) I paid for them to stay an extra hour as I wasn't sure how long we would need them and I'm glad we did. The only issue we had was oil did in fact get on the pavers even after using cardboard (I guess it wasn't big enough) so if you are having it on something like pavers - cover them well! I would highly recommend them and I totally plan on using them again!! read more

I recently hired Mexican Taco Party to cater a party for 90, and I would be happy to hire them again. Two very good reasons: Gabby Hernandez, the owner is a pleasure to work with, and the tacos and sides were very tasty. Gabby sweats the details and follows up. She responded promptly to my emails with solid information, and called twice to discuss our needs. Before the event, she visited the venue to clarify where and how she would cook and serve. And she arrived early for the event, and took time to talk with us, ask practical questions, and fit in with the activities we planned. She even lent us a table cloth for our bar. Gabby also gently reminded us when the cocktail hour ran long and it was time to serve! While serving, Gabby and her crew were warm and welcoming, chatted with our guests. AND the tacos were awesome! Marinated meats were very flavorful and tasty, guacamole was fresh, pico de gallo was spicy, but not over the top. And the service was snappy, which really helped with so many people. We hired Mexican Taco Party Catering for our son's high school graduation party. We couldn't have been more pleased. Owners Gabby and Hector Hernandez are terrific! They were prompt, professional, incredibly friendly and their TACOS are AWESOME!! Gabby and Hector arrived with everything they needed and set up quickly in our backyard. For our group of 60, we ordered three meat choices (carnitas, beef & chicken), beans, rice and guacamole. The meat choices were delicious and the chicken seasoning was especially tasty. I was really pleased with all the taco garnishments offered as well. At the end of the night, using my containers, Gabby even packed up all the leftovers we wanted to keep. Our guests were very impressed and left raving about Gabby, Hector and their tasty tacos. Thanks for helping to make our son's graduation party a huge success. PS. Gabby and Mexican Taco Party catered our 5/29/15 wedding reception at Stern Grove in SF. Throughout the planning phase, Gabby was great to work with. Day of, I heard of no problems in setting up or executing (perfect for the bride) and the food was great. Lots of options for vegan, vegetarians and gluten-free folks. Only thing to note is that the rice is not vegetarian friendly, but it's traditional Mexican rice so no wiggle room there. I worried that our veg guests would be bummed but like most other things you worry about before the wedding, no one cared and there were plenty of other things to keep them satisfied. In reading through the previous reviews I can only agree 100% with each and every one of them! I had a baby shower for my daughter last weekend and we had approximately 50 guests. Gabby and Hector showed up not only on-time, but early! They quickly and efficiently set up their work station, and got to work! Clearly they have done this many times before! Gabby was an absolute sweetheart! The food was FANTASTIC and FRESH! And the service was impeccable! Mexican Taco Party catered my moms 60th birthday party. I have to begin by saying, we loved Gabby and her hubby!!! :-) Mexican Taco Party was a referral from my aunt who couldn't stop raving about how awesome they were! Ok, I can't brag enough about how friendly they are and how well they interacted with our guests. The food was absolutely incredible!!! A couple of our guest were running behind schedule and my silly mom insisted we wait for them to arrive before praying for the food. We hired Gabby for our son and daughter's birthday party. Gabby was so great to work with; she agreed the morning of to come earlier than I originally planned, she added items last minute and was so sweet about all the last minute changes. The food was delicious; we had chicken, steak and al pastor tacos and quesadillas. They bring salsas, radishes cucumbers, green onions (and plates, utensils and napkins) and make everything to order. We used Mexican Taco Party for a fun work event with a large startup crowd, and it was definitely the talk of the party! People really enjoyed the food. Tacos Chuy requested, and was given a $1000.00 deposit to reserve their services for the event. Upon discovering they did not have proper permits to do the event in a brewery we reserved, and given months to provide proof they were obtaining it as promised, we unfortunately had to pivot and find another caterer. What is very disappointing, is that they have ghosted us since, and not returned any or all of our deposit of $1000.

While the food eventually arrived, the experience leading up to and during the event was fraught with unnecessary stress. Initial communication was great, but it trailed off as we got closer to the date. Despite their "quick response" phone number, my calls and texts went completely ignored. To make matters worse, the voicemail changed from a personal greeting to a generic one 72 hours before my event, leaving me terrified that we had been scammed. We increased our headcount from 65 to 75 a week prior. After being told this was fine, I was sent an incorrect invoice that ignored the new guest count and asked for a second $300 deposit I had already paid. It took multiple follow-up emails just to get a confirmation on the final numbers. On the day of, the staff arrived promptly and set up on time. However, only 30 minutes into service--with only 30 of our 75 guests fed--they completely ran out of cilantro, onions, and grilled peppers. When I followed up the next day, they claimed they prepared for "70 guests." Even if that were true, it wasn't the 75 we paid for, and it certainly doesn't explain running out of basic toppings after 30 people. I'm incredibly glad we didn't use them for our wedding last year as originally planned. It's disappointing when the service doesn't match the reputation. 2 stars for due prompt service and the guests that got all the food really enjoyed the steak & shrimp.

We brought our own chips. Ruben was a life saver bringing extra paper plates, napkins, and utensils, because with all of the planning I did for this party, it totally slipped my mind to bring extra! Ruben is such a kind person who cooks up amazing tacos that are affordable! We also had a ton of left overs, so bring trays to take food to go!
