After a long week, my fiancé and I decided neither of us was cooking, and we didn't feel like waiting 1 hour plus for a table somewhere on a Friday night so she suggested this place. Their apparently know for their tortas and after having inhaled my milanesa torta, I can see why. The portions are generous, the flavor was great. The restaurant/panadería itself was clean, bright and the staff was attentive. I guess my only issue is the hot, unrefrigerated container of half-and-half sitting in the coffee station. Gross. Out of the 3 Mexico Bakerys in SJ (that I know about), this one is the cleanest and has the best pan dulce and tortas. So why not 5 stars?... well customer service really needs to improve. The folks at the location on Santa Clara in downtown are definitely the friendliest and prompt with your order. Hopefully they can work with their team on Alum Rock to make improvements. They did the design I requested and delivered on time, everybody loved the cake and unique flavor (Tres leches mid moisture with cajeta in between). I come for the tortas. They're very big and one will satisfy two people. This spot was recommended to me and they didn't disappoint. I usually call ahead and they've always had my order waiting for me. I've never had any issues with the staff but it does get busy here. If it wasn't busy, they wouldn't be very good. They are so delicious and stuffed with a lot of ingredients and condiments. Tomato, onion, avocado, cheese and jalapeños. You can choose from different meats like chicken, beef, chorizo and pork. Chicken is my preference of choice .The sandwich will definitely feed two people. The staff is nice and friendly. If you get there at the right time of day they give out free out of the oven bread samples. What else can you ask for. They also have a huge selection of cakes and Mexican bread. Parking is the only downside of this location. This place is a must. Stop by if you are in the area. You won't regret it. read more

Have you had an "Ojo de venado"? (Deer eye) seriously it's a real pastry! Soft light pound cake wrapped in a flaky crust, it's a must try. The bread is delicious. My issue is with the service. My mom came in for the second time and was waiting to be helped to buy some bread by the bread area. We were waiting for about 4 mins and people kept coming in and lining up. So she finally asked if they were going to help her and a young man said she had to go line up. That will be the last time I go to this bakery! I tried to give them one more chance because the last time I went there they were sort of rude and I got a little grossed out because there were flies flying around the Pan Dulce. But I was in a hurry and in need of a birthday cake so decided to stop there. I'm not sure if it was because it was late in the day but the cakes didn't look very good (that's when I should have walked out)! I was hoping the one that I picked would be good but when we got it home and my husband was about to blow out the candles I realized that it looked like it had been sitting for a while. Once we cut it up and served it my husband said that the filling tasted like it had alcohol in it (of course I wouldn't buy a cake with alcohol because we have kids and I'm also expecting)! I think it actually tasted a bit stale or like it had been in the refrigerator for a couple of days!! It was an Oreo cake and I spent $28 on it when I could've gotten a fresher one at Safeway for half the price! I also asked them if they would be able to write Feliz Cumpleños on top...now if they felt that it was too long they could've told me no and I could've had them just write happy b-day but they said yes. When I got it home and opened it up they had started to write the end of the word onto the edge of the cake and the letters got smaller as it went along didn't look cute! It was so crappy I didn't even take any pictures I should've though so I could've added them to this review!! Lesson learned won't be going there again. read more
