Don't let the location fool you; this place is for real. The interior is quaint and may not be what you'd expect by the exterior, but it's got a nice vibe and it's clean. Our service was very good despite it being pretty busy. It seems that this is a family run place, and everyone was very attentive. I ordered a burrito and a Mexican (as opposed to American) taco and both were excellent. I can't personally speak as to how authentic everything is, but if Tacobell is pseudo-Mexican, then this is the real deal. We have eaten here several times. Overall, I'd give it one and a half stars. No AC (air conditioning) in the restaurant. Had to be around 100degrees in there. No kidding. It made me very ill. I won't be going back until winter time -- if at all. I just can't take the heat like that. Plus they don't serve the ice cream desert any longer, the only menu item that my husband liked. read more

I've been coming here since their beginning. It's always been really good. This is my first visit back since Covid and I wish I had come back sooner. They remodeled and really stepped up their game. Wow! We are here from Las Vegas visiting family, which is considered to have some of the best restaurants in the US as the entertainment capital of the world. Mexico City Restaurant blew my husband and I away! Amazing service, delicious food and awesome atmosphere. Authentic recipes, music and vibes. I had the Mexican pizza with no meat and my husband had the carne asada nachos with a strawberry margarita, which had smoke coming from the bottom from dry ice (what a neat trick!) Grade A! Would recommend to anyone in the Detroit area! If you're a bit further out it is definitely worth the drive! I'm still eating and I couldn't even wait to finish my food to write a review it was so amazing! Will definitely be back next time we visit! Wish there was one in Las Vegas! read more

MexicoCity is the "go to" for Mexican food in the area. Traditional flavors, quick service and fairly reasonable prices. The employees are always welcoming too. They offer chips and four different salsas upon being seated. As far as menu items go... I don't have a fav. I usually just piece together the a la carte to create something magical! read more

This was my first visit here. I had driven by several times but I had never gone in. The place is small and unassuming. We got seated promptly and we got our chips and salsa. There was green mild and red medium and hot. The salsa was homemade and tasted great. I mixed the hot and medium to make a very pleasant salsa for my chips. My wife ordered the beef chimichanga and I ordered the beef grande burrito. When our orders came out we couldn't believe how much food was on our plates. It was so much that we both ended up bringing more than half of our meals home. I really enjoyed my burrito and the rice and beans. My wife liked her chimi but she likes to have chunks of beef instead of ground beef. She also didn't care for her beans but I thought they were good. I came here for take out and was quite satisfied. I don't know of any good genuine Mexican food aside from downtown and I'm glad I read these Yelp reviews and grabbed take out from this place. I ordered the taco dinner (3 hard shelled tacos with chicken and beef and rice on the side) and the fried chicken quesadilla. Both were amazing and perfectly crunchy (I liked the tacos more than the fried quesadilla but my significant other liked the quesadilla more). Also the fried rice seemed like veggie fried rice which was a definite plus. The price was cheap and the portions were big, I also wasn't the biggest fan of the decor inside, but definite 5 stars for take out. Also since I couldn't find a menu anywhere I decided to take a picture of it so all you fellow Yelpers don't have to call to find out what's on the menu. read more

I have ordered from the restaurant in the past, a few years ago (Pre Yelp), and I remembered liking the food. I remembered ordering $1.00 tacos and (Taco Tuesdays) and once I ordered Beef Nachos, which I remember was a huge portion for the price. So, a couple of weeks ago, I was really in the mood for nachos, but I wanted to try a new Mexican restaurant in the area (if I could find one), but then I quickly thought about Mexico City Restaurant, and how I enjoyed the food, but hadn't been in years. So I ended up driving to Warren and I was excited to find that even during COVID-19, this restaurant was still open of course for carry-out only. I ordered the Beef Nachos, and as I remembered in the past, the nachos were so good! So good that I didn't realize I hadn't taken a picture for posting with my review, I was half way into demolishing the nachos before I thought about taking a picture! But this restaurant didn't disappoint me in the past, and I was greatly satisfied this time around! I always have a sense of authentic vibes from the food. I definitely plan to order take out again soon, and I will most definitely remember to take pictures! I suggest this restaurant if you are in search for some good Mexican food and in the area. Just heard about this restaurant, so 4 of us went, it's not much to look at, but once inside, saw menu. Ordered 3 food items and not one of them failed. Mexican pizza was big, loaded and very tasty, ordered cheese nachos and the serving was huge, enchiladas were a hit. Between 4 of us, the servings were big enough to warrant some of it to go. This place did not disappoint, doesn't look like much in the outside. Ordered the margaritas also, very very good. Service was good. This is a gem in Warren. read more

Best Mexican food I have ever had! I had a taco salad last week. I ordered with grilled chicken. It was very juicy. Plenty of lettuce and tasty onions with a huge shell so high they have to use a bakery box. Yesterday, the chicken quesadilla was enormous with tons of cheese. Fresh onions and shredded chicken had plenty of flavor. Good beans and rice with a a little bit of cheese on the top. The box must have weighed 2-3 pounds. Each time I was waited on for my carryout by a young lady in her late 20s. Very friendly and welcoming. Did I mention that the food was ready in under 10 minutes after I ordered in person? Yep, true story. This place makes Grand Azteca look like a joke. And lower prices than them! Just go and thank me later. read more

I have an admittedly high bar when it comes to Mexican restaurants. I'd read the reviews of the former occupant of this space, decided to stay clear, and didn't really pay much attention when the name/owner changed. Boy, did I miss out. As Guy would say, this place is the real deal. 4 good salsas come out with the chips, they're all tasty. All the meals were really good and a good value, except maybe the large combo plate that was kind of pricey for what you got. The service was very attentive, perhaps due to the fact that they weren't very busy when we dined. Mexico City is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area, short of going to Mexican village. We will be back to try more dishes. read more

It is always annoyingly difficult to find a real decent Mexican restaurant in this unsophisticated part of Michigan. All good here. Like any REAL Mexican restaurant they make their own salsa in several varieties. They even have harder to find dishes like Barbacoa and Menudo. Full bar too. We had an fabulous take out dinner on Cinco de Mayo! Huge kudos to the restaurant and staff for quoting order times as accurately as possible during such a busy day! We called at 5:30pm and there was an hour and 30 min wait for take out. We knew it would be busy at all of the Mexican resultants and placed our order. My husband got to the restaurant at 7:00pm and they called our name pretty quickly. We ordered 7 different meals and each one was made correctly, it was still hot when we got home, and it was so good! My family enjoyed the Flautas, Wet Burrito, and Fajitas. The chicken nachos were also delicious and fresh which was surprising for a carry out order, not soggy at all! I highly recommend the guacamole as well, some of the best I've ever had! My family and I wanted to try a different Mexican restaurant. We go out for Mexican every Friday evening in the Warren/Sterling HTS area and have not visited this restaurant. We arrived at 8:45pm not realizing they close at 9pm on a Friday. All the other Mexican restaurants close at 11pm on a weekend night. The restaurant was full of patrons, but immediately upon entering 15min before their closing time we were told "you can only make a carry-out order, we can no longer seat you would you like to place a carry-out order?" Not even a greeting such as "Hello" or "Welcome". We felt we were getting pushed out the door as soon as we entered it. Now, I have worked in restaurants for 10 years prior to my current job. I fully understand what it is like if someone comes in 5-15 min prior to closing if it is not busy and the staff has already cleaned up and are close to walking out the door. However, that was far from the case and in my experience this was an unacceptible way to treat customers in these circumstances. It was unexpected and even worse just felt rude. Apparently this place doesn't need customers, so we left and went to Azteca's up the road and had an enjoyable Mexican meal and we won't ever be going back to Mexico City restaurant. Too bad, since we were excited to try something new. read more

The tacos from here are pretty good. I generally get the hard shell tacos with everything. The hot salsa is very flavorful and spicy. The downside to this place is the parking on busy days and the wait times. Other than that, if you want some good tacos I recommend trying this restaurant. read more
