I live here. This is the restaurant we go to when we want to be happy, the restaurant everyone agrees on. Chicken sopes: three 4 inch tortilla, thick and crispy at the edges, with beans, avocado sauce, Mexican crema, shredded cabbage, and wonderful spiced chicken. The chicken suezas are small chicken enchiladas smothered with green sauce and white cheese; It has been the food of several eating contests. If the waiter notices you have a thing for margueritas, there will be a whole lot more brought to your table. I have eaten Mexican on both coasts, Park Slope, and Sunset Park. This is some of the very best. There is a dish of nachos with jalapenos, chicken, Mexican cheese; you will probably need two people to eat this. Skirt steak with vegetables: very good. Place is good for the crab soup. That is a certainty as it is some of the best I've tasted. Other then that far too pricey for what you get. I've been in twice recently and I walked away feeling ripped off both times. I tried the chicken Flautas last time and they were dry as can be and the margaritas were small and unremarkable. The food and service was good, the decor was nice and everything seemed fresh. Even the sour cream seemed homemade. The problem here is the sign says "fine dining" on the outside. So they stand a chip up sideways in your beans and sprinkle some cheese on there and charge an extra 20 dollars. It's just way to expensive for Mexican. A family owned business for many years in AC, Mexico has a full bar and happy hour specials. This was our favorite Mexican restaurant; we ate there once a week. Started noticing a decline in the quality of the meat. Then the prices increased, understandably, but they also decreased the portion size. Double dipping?? As a South Jersey native I grew up to rave reviews of Mexico. Needless to say I had high expectations for the first visit. As with many hyped up restaurants this one failed to deliver. My burrito was more like a log of cheese with a splattering of unseasoned beef and beans. The side of rice was painfully bland. I wouldn't say that my meal tasted bad. This is one of my all time Fave Mexican places...anywhere. Even in actual Mexico. I always have the Enchiladas Verdes & Mole Oaxacacana. Both are excellent. We have dined with them since they opened in 95'. Great staff & even some of the originals. Good Margaritas too. Quaint, charming atmosphere with lots of Mexican art on the walks. i'm giving you a 5 mexico. you made me happy that day. when you walk in, there is a bar. the server then takes you to 1 of 2 dining areas. the restaurant feels cavernous yet homey. the decorations were cute. the salsa had a nice flavor but were way too runny. i kept making a mess because i like a lot of salsa with my chip. the cream of crab bisque was ohhhhh soooo good. lots and lots of heavy cream. and tons and tons of crab meat. i am a creamy soup fanatic and this soup had me licking the spoon. well worth the price given the quality of ingredients. the flautas were a huge huge hit. it was a light corn tortilla filled with shredded chicken breast, onions and tomatoes with a side of guacamole and sour cream. it was a light dish but everything was so fresh that it reminded me of why i am a foodie. with every bite all you tasted was the natural flavor of each individual ingredient. the warm soft tortilla and crispy cold vegetables was like eating a mexican blt. simple yet creating a textural harmony. the chimichanga was delicious! it was oozing with melted cheese. the crust was deep fried but didn't taste greasy. thank you for using clean oil. mexico is a 5 because they made food the way it should be made fresh and natural. mexican food gets such a bad rap sometimes because it is too heavy, greasy, spicy, or salty. here, nothing is complicated here. it's fresh food that is flavored by the ingredients and not by heavy sauces. read more

I love the food at Mexico and we go often! The food is very authentic it's really the best place in the area for Mexican food! Only thing that I've noticed is they are getting very tight with the tortilla chips and salsa which is my favorite part! Also the owner could be a little more friendlier especially with the customers who continue to bring them business and coming back! Came in last night for a late dinner with my daughter and friends. We were promptly seated and greeted by our lovely waitress. We had the most delicious guava margaritas! I have been eating at Mexico since I was a kid (so almost 15 years) and it is still my absolute favorite spot for Mexican food. If you are expecting chili's or Taco Bell, don't come here. This is authentic Mexican food! My personal favorites are the enchiladas with mole (red) and bistec ala Mexicana, and tamales. Their sangria and margaritas are always excellent. This used to be one of our go to spots. But over the summer something changed. The last 4 visits have been major disappointments but the last outing there is the absolute last. Never mind that we've had the same miserable waitress -- who never comes to the table unless she has to, never asks how the meal is and never asks if we would want dessert or more coffee. On the last visit the food was so salty I could only eat a bite. And the meat tasted old. When the waitress came to collect our plates,as she never came to the table while we were eating, she asked if I wanted to take home my food. I told her I could not eat it. I don't know why people say its authentic mexican food, the food lacks flavor and is bland a lot of times. I end up throwing salsa and hot sauce all over my dish. They just throw a lot of cheese on their dishes which almost makes you choke. They are very unaccomodating to vegetarians by refusing to modify most of their dishes. A lot of my friends don't eat meat, therefore we end up avoiding Mexico since their choices are limited. read more

I am a little perplexed by the other reviews I have read because I didn't see what they did. I saw a dark/dingy/dirty little place with very slow service and very bland food. The salsa was tomato juice with a kick and it was the only thing that didn't lack flavor. We came here directly after leaving los amigos so that we could compare the two. I've tried several so called Mexican Restos in the Atlantic City area and hands down this one is my favorite. From the moment I tasted the chips and home made salsa I knew I was in for a treat.
