After a day of kayaking at Folsom Lake, we stopped by Mexquite for dinner and had a wonderful experience. We arrived around 7 p.m. and the restaurant was busy, with a special event taking place on the patio, but there was still plenty of seating available and we were quickly seated near the bar. My bestie and I were tired, hungry and thirsty. We started with drinks and took advantage of happy hour. The Cadillac Margarita was outstanding, served in a large cocktail glass with a mini bottle of Cointreau perched on top for the perfect finishing touch. My friend ordered a virgin lavender drink, which was refreshing, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp quesadillas, and they ended up being one of our favorite dishes of the evening. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, and the chipotle adobo sauce added just the right amount of smoky flavor and spice. For my entrée, I chose the Chile Relleno, which came with rice and refried beans. While it was good, it wasn't my favorite chile relleno compared to others I've tried. The real star of the meal was the seafood molcajete. Loaded with shrimp, meat, cheese, and a bubbling hot salsa, it arrived sizzling at the table and was incredibly flavorful. Served with warm tortillas and extra salsa, it was hearty, filling, and perfect for sharing. We finished with the churros for dessert. They were crispy on the outside, hot and soft on the inside, and paired perfectly with the rich cajeta dipping sauce. Throughout the evening, the service was exceptional. Both the bartender and our waiter were attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcome. You can tell this is a family-run business that takes pride in its hospitality, food, and drinks. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with classic Mexican-inspired décor throughout the restaurant. The bar is lined with an impressive display of tequila bottles, and the space is filled with decorative touches that celebrate Mexican culture and traditions. It feels lively and authentic without being overdone, making it a comfortable place to relax after a day on the lake. Being that my wife and I are avid Mexican Restaurant consumers, we decided to try Mexquite. When we pulled into the Parking Lot, it was completely full and I had to wait for someone to back out in order for me to find a place to park. That's certainly not a bad thing, that's a good problem to have. That means that you are doing good things on keeping your Customers coming back. After dropping my wife off and me going to park, I finally walked in and let me tell you the atmosphere of the place and the ambiance was completely beautiful. Very nice decorations and I loved the lighting in the restaurant as well. After a period of time our Waitress Veronica came over and started talking to us about Chips & Salsa. I asked about the Chips & Salsa price of $3.99 as previously mentioned by other reviewers and she said that when you order Salsa or Guacamole it automatically comes with Chips. So I ordered the Molcajete Guacamole because it was the bigger one and when it arrived, my words were "Oh My!" it was very big. Not knowing the price because it wasnt on the Menu it came with a price of $12.99. It was a 3 Big Mounds of Guacamole and if I knew that it was that price, I certainly wouldnt have ordered that. We ordered our drinks and Veronica came back with those and then we ordered our food. I ordered the Pollo En Crema and my wife ordered the Pick 2 which she chose the Chille Relleno and the Chimichanga. After about 7 to 8 minutes our food came out and let me tell you, my Pollo En Crema was hot and so was my Tortillas. I ordered Corn & a mixture of Flour Tortillas to eat with my food. When my wife began eating her food, she said that it was spicy which let me tell you, she doesnt do spice but I dont mind it, occasionally. So I removed the Chille Poblano from underneath her food and it helped lighten up the spiciness just a little bit. She then ordered a Pineapple Margarita and when it came let me tell you that we were very disappointed in its size. It came in a little Old Fashioned or maybe you might know the term Lowball Glass. After eating our food, let me tell you when I asked my wife about the quality and taste of her food on a scale from 1 to 5 she gave it a 2.5 and while I enjoyed my food it was on a scale of a 4. We appreciate the service that Veronica provided, we feel like she did her best. While this wasnt really our favorite experience, the thing that might get us to return would be the Breakfast options. read more

We came on a Friday for an early dinner/happy hour. Promptly seated and taken care of. Mario was our server and that man deserves a raise; he's a phenomenal server! The chips, salsa, and guacamole were great, as expected. Enchiladas and crispy tacos on point. The house margaritas were strooong and delicious. Ordered two Mexquite burritos with shredded beef last night, went and picked it up after a 20 minute round-trip drive, got home to realize that they're both with shredded chicken. Gross boiled shredded chicken breast. Anything would have been better than that. I offered to send a photo when I called in, she just said thanks for letting me know. Stopped in for lunch today with a friend. We go here for lunch about once a month as it's always good. It was not crowded, and we were seated immediately, and our drinks and chips/salsa were brought out. It was cold and raining outside and the restaurant was nice and warm inside. I ordered a 1 item lunch combination consisting of a chimichanga, rice, beans and a salad. My friend ordered his usual of a soup and salad lunch combo. The food came out quickly. My chimichanga was actually a half chimichanga with a nice serving of rice and refried beans and salad. I had no leftovers as this is the PERFECT size lunch. Everything tasted very good. The only glitch was my friend's soup/salad combo was no longer on the menu, so he was charged ala carte, and it was a bit more than he'd expected. We had a going away lunch for a friend with about 9 people. The staff was very friendly and answered the many questions some had about ingredients as we had a couple people with dietary restrictions. The chips were good and the salsa had a kick which I liked but it wasn't over powering. I had a pork tamale and asked for black beans instead of the refried beans. The portions are very generous. Many had a variety of the salads and everyone raved about them. My tamale was very tasty and little different than I'm used too but not in a bad way. The pork had a little more taste then some I've had. I asked about a spicy salsa and they brought me a habanero salsa on the side. It was delicious!! I'd give her 5 stars. Here is why I will not go back. I spend aprox, $800 to $1000 per month on dining out. And I don't have a problem usually with the cost as long as I feel the charges are fair and not a money Grab. There are 5 mexican restaurants I frequent regularly and they are in South Sacramento, Downtown Sacramento and in North Sacramento. They range from Homestyle Mexican cuisine, to more fancy Mexico City style Mexican cuisine. Well I was shocked to find that Mexquite offers chips and salsa as Appetizer for $3.99. When I don't remember any restaurant ever charging me for CHIPS and Salsa. What's next, Water? I'm sorry. It's the principle. I can't come back. My daughter lives in Folsom which brought me to Mexquite. I had high expectations. Well after the money grab, I will have her family come down to Sacto. where we can go to Zocalo, Mayuhel, El Novillero, Tres Hermanas, Kiko's, Florez Mex Grill, El Tapatio and several others that not only offer great Mexican Food with great Service but automatically serve you great chips and salsa as soon as you are seated. Mexquite is seriously one of my favorite spots in Folsom. The atmosphere is so fun and welcoming, and the staff is always super friendly and on top of things. The food though... wow. The shrimp quesadilla is hands down a must-try, and the al pastor tacos are delicious. Their happy hour is also such a great deal definitely worth planning around. I dropped on in for the first time this past Friday night at 6:30pm. This restaurant is located in the Folsom burbs on Blue Ravine Road near Green Valley Road. Folks were at the bar, the The noise level was off the charts. I had a difficult time hearing the waitress. My dining companion sat right next to me and I could barely hear him. The complimentary chips n salsa were good. The salsa had a slight spicy kick without the heat. Yum. I ordered the chili verde plate. It had chunks of tender stewed pork which shredded easily with a fork. It came. with refried bean, Spanish rice, and choice of flour or corn tortillas. The chili verde was darn delicious. Outstanding flavors that floored me. The plate comes with tortillas. They are served in this covered stainless ornately decorated tray. It added charm ti the dining experience. The serving size of the chili verde was easily two servings, I had leftovers..It tasted just as good the day after. Hubs ordered a crispy asada taco plate. He enjoyed it. Another thing to note is that the plates are actually served hot. Hot to the touch. All the better for the food to stay warm. The prices were not bad, actually cheaper than what I expected for a sit down restaurant and aligned to some local taquerias I frequent. The service was awesome. Our waitress was terrific. I'm going to start with the positive. The food is very good. We've been going here for years since it's so close to our house. Tonight, I'm so disappointed. It was my daughter's 17th birthday. She chose to come to this place to celebrate. I figured it would be just like any other restaurants in town. They will at least light the candles on the cake and bring it to the birthday person. NO! The waitress brings us the cake still in the box with the candles and hands it to me. I proceed to ask her for a lighter, with a surprise look on my face. Like wtf She says to me " no, sorry I must light it my self". Ok, fine. So I get the cake out of the box and put the candles on. So akward for a restaurant on a Tuesday night. Now, we're all waiting for her to come back. lol as we're watching her take orders from other tables. We are patently waiting at this point with the cake in front of my daughter and unlit candles ‍. She finally comes back lights the candles than she asks me if I need plates. NO, we're going to take turns in biting the cake. I won't need plates! Wth kind of a question is that?! At this point I'm livid, but I held my composure, did not say anything to her. Didn't want to make it any worse than it was for my girl. Moral of this story. Do not go here to celebrate anything. If you're considering spending a fortune on a trip to rural Mexico, and experience the country's culture and food. you should definitely start by eating here first. It feels like you're on a trip, but without leaving. I've been visiting this restaurant for years, and I can confidently say that it is consistently excellent. The flavors are always on point, the atmosphere is warm and festive, and the staff are incredibly welcoming. We just moved to Folsom and came here on Mother's Day. Didn't even know they had a brunch going on. We didn't have reservations, but they told us we could sit at the bar. The bartender was so sweet and engaging. The food was amazing. I was born in Mexico and my parents are born in Mexico, so I'm very particular about my food And this was as authentic as it can be. I wish I would've known that they had me to order omelettes on this day. We were greeted right away and since the place wasn't busy we were free to choose a booth or table. They have a large menu with plenty of options. Since three out of the four of us wanted regular frozen margaritas the waitress mentioned a pitcher would be cheaper. We appreciated the information. I ordered the Mango Mai Tai. The Mai Tai was very refreshing and I enjoyed it since I was looking for something different. Hubby and I ordered the two fish tacos. It was the perfect amount and the fish was grilled perfectly.
