I've been three times within the two months. The food has been consistently good. My other half claims that other than hers.... It's the best Italian she has had in Central Florida. I have been happy with the service which is good to excellent depending on the waiter/waitress. The atmosphere has been relaxing with pleasant music in the background. So first time here on a recommendation from a friend. There were three of us. We ordered a side salad, two pasta fagioli and mozzarella sticks to start. So the mozzarella came out by itself. It was not fully cooked so we had to send it back. When they came back they were finally cooked properly. So we ordered the brooklyn flatbread pizza that was ok, it was cold and had no real flavor, the stuffed chicken that had mashed potatoes and broccoli. It came out cold and the spinach was not even cooked and the last meal combo of, veal parm, chicken parm and fettuccine. This meal the chicken and veal parm was not fully cooked abs cold. We were not impressed with the meal or service. The bartender asked what was wrong with the stuffed chicken, he was told it was cold. He did asked if we wanted anything else. We said no. You would've thought that the meal would've been taken off the bill seeing only one bite was taken. Well it was not! Any other place would've taken it off or given a gift card. We were going to have three espresso martini's but we did not. We paid the bill and left. We will not be heading back soon. I would not recommend this place. read more

Greeted and seated by a wonderfully polite but professional hostess. Opened the menu cover to find a tablet device: pretty neat. Then the waiter came and rapid-fire spouted: "How are we today? Do we know what we want to drink? Give me your water glass." All this as he reached directly across and under my face (so close in fact that I had to lean back slightly and choked on an overwhelming wave of his cologne) to fill my water glass. I gleaned that the directive to hand over the glass was directed at my husband, whose cup was just out of reach. In an effort to lighten the situation, my husband attempted a joke: "The menu's blank," he gasped. The waiter, with a stern facade, tapped and swiped at the device to bring up the menu. Then the barrage began again in a harsh tenor: "How are we doing today? Are you ready to order beverages? Give me that water glass." And he stood, sour expression, with his hand extended as my husband and I gaped at one another. My husband always refuses water at restaurants (as most servers will politely inquire as to whether it is wanted) because he doesn't drink it and it ends up sweating all over the table or napkins. But this kid didn't give him a chance to say 'no thank you,' he just kept spouting the same three lines so quickly that they were all out before we could begin to answer the first, then starting over. Finally my husband said "Right, the water glass! Yes, you can take it." The kid filled the water glass, set it none too gently atop the table, stared my husband down and repeated: "are we good? are we good? Sir, are we good?" His whole demeanor was rude and aggressive, as if he were trying to intimidate us. My husband finally replied "no," and the kid blurted, "I'll be back," and left like nothing was wrong. There was no way I was going to sit through a meal being bullied by that guy, so we got up to leave. To the hostess' credit, she asked about the issue and offered to seat us in another section with a different waiter. But I'd lost my appetite and actually felt quite nervous, so we left after my husband told her that employee needed to go. And it's true: as long as I know he's there, I'll never return. read more

Last night my wife & had dinner at Mezza Luna with another couple. After the waitress gave us our menus, it was awhile before she returned. When she did, I ordered the minestrone vegetable soup and penne with meat sauce. My wife ordered a salad & chicken parm with spaghetti. The other couple ordered their meals. As the waitress was taking our menus, I told her we were going to need more bread. "Be right back with it. We have plenty of bread". My soup & the two salads came quickly, but the bread did not. When we asked the waitress for more bread, again, she reacted as if we were asking for the first time. When she returned after we finished the soup (excellent) & salads, we asked again for bread, and the waitress again reacted as if we were asking for the first time. We got another "we have plenty of bread". The meals for my wife & me came soon afterwards. About five minutes later, the other husband's dinner came. The waitress walked over, saw that the other wife's meal wasn't there, and said she would check on it. We again asked her for bread. I think this time the waitress realized she had been asked before. The other meal still hadn't arrived after about 15 minutes. We had to flag the waitress down to ask her what happened. She said that it was "40 seconds" away from being ready and then spun around to take the order of two couples across from us. Their conversation dragged on, and I interrupted to ask where the missing meal was. She said she was going back to the kitchen to check. (Somewhere along the way, after delivering bread to another table and waiting some more, she brought out bread). The missing dinner finally came 20 mins after the rest of us had gotten our meals. The maître de came by to apologize and said it would be taken off the bill. He said that there was some "issue" in the kitchen. He asked how everyone else's meals were. I told him I didn't like mine, which was true: the penne was rubbery and the meat sauce, riddled with pepper, was semi-coagulated. He didn't react to my response. My wife didn't say so to him, but her chicken parmigiana came with a square of cheese sitting on the chicken that hadn't melted. (In a good Italian restaurant, the cheese is typically melted and integrated into the meal.) The tomato sauce was watery and overly sweet, as well. The maître de eventually came back, saw that my wife & I had run out of water (the waitress hadn't noticed) and went to find someone to replenish our glasses. He again apologized for the delayed meal and asked again how everything was. I repeated what I had said about mine, especially since two thirds of my meal remained uneaten in the dish. He didn't apologize and just walked away with no reaction to what I had said. The waitress eventually came back with the bill and asked if anyone wanted boxes. We all said 'no'. When she came back with our credit cards & bills, she again asked if anyone wanted boxes. I told her that I didn't like my meal and as such didn't want a box. She had no reaction. I'm not a fan of Olive Garden - I don't consider it a real Italian restaurant - but we've had better meals there than last night in Mezza Luna. Perhaps this was an aberration, but there are plenty of other really good Italian restaurants, like Little Joey's III and Napalino's, in The Villages area. We won't be back anytime soon to Mezza Luna. read more

Severely over rated restaurant. Ordered Penne Arribiata. Waiter asked if I wanted it mild, medium or spicy. Told him spicy. Penne came overcooked and half the noodles already broken open, zero spice at all - could have gotten more spice from a jar at a supermarket. Pulled the sauce back and could see water all over the bottom of the bowl. Even though I pointed out the issues to the waiter and that I only ate a small amount, paid full price for the meal. What a phenomenal experience dining at Mezzanine Luna tonight! First time visit, we took our daughter and boyfriend out on that their last night here in The Villages. Ambiance was perfect, with live music playing. Beautiful table setting and plush atmosphere. Two of us ordered Chicken Parmigiana, and other orders were Vodka Penne, and Chicken Marsala. Chicken Parmigiana was the best we've ever had, and I mean ever. Perfectly prepared panko breading, on chicken that was not too thick or too thin. Sauce was amazing!! Let me also compliment the service, from host, to server, to the manager who made rounds to make sure everyone was satisfied and taken care of. Oh, cannot forget the cannoli we brought home to enjoy later, fabulous!! I absolutely cannot tell you how happy it makes me to have such a wonderful dining experience! We will definitely be back!! I highly recommend Mezza Luna if you want to be treated like a valued customer. read more

So far the best Italian food in the Villages. We were lucky to get a table on a Friday night without a reservation. The pleasant hostess sat us almost immediately. Our waitress was greeting us almost as we sat down, taking our drink order. Ordering is a little unique as you are given an IPad with the menu. Place is lively with a musician entertaining the patrons. From the outside its very deceiving, don't let it deter you from the phenomenal food served inside. The meatballs and the lasagna area as good as you would find in a high end NY restaurant. Suggestion make a reservation! read more

After a wonderful first experience, we came back with our Grandson to enjoy a meal together. We ordered appetizers which were served right away. And before we had two bites, the main meal was served right behind it. Found out why: his eggplant was brunt on the outside and almost raw on the inside - unexcusable - told someone asking how was our meal who indicated he'd get a Manger who never showed. Told our server and was not offered any compensation nor even an apology. White tablecloths don't make a great restaurant. So disappointed especially after such a great first experience. Absolutely horrible. The place was total trash. no wonder it was empty. We were sat quickly to a clean restaurant. Our server struggled to listen to our questions before answering incorrectly. We were offered smaller menu, as it was Sunday. We were told that our options were only the things available on the abbreviated menu. We had two guests in our party that were vegetarian and as such the abbreviated menu only had a single dish that was vegetarian. We attempted to leave and the server told us we could use the complete menu. She insisted that she get our drinks. We explained that we would like to take a moment to make sure we would be staying before ordering drinks, but she still insisted we order our drinks right then, as such, we all ordered water. When she left, half of our party wanted to leave. We stayed. The server came back and took half of our order and walked off, literally mid-sentence. She came back with half our food (the half we were able to order) and was shocked to find out that the other side of the table wanted food. The app, Crab Bites were ice cold in the middle. My dates Caesar Salad came dry, not a single drop of Caesar dressing. We again discussed leaving. We stayed. Eventually, our party got their food. It was also ice cold. My Spaghetti and meatballs were the worst I have ever tasted. No joke, it was similar to Chef Boyardee in a can. I am not kidding. Except Chef Boyardee might be better. The waitress came and asked how our food was and if we wanted boxes, as almost none of the food was eaten. We explained that the food was absolutely trash and we didn't want to eat it now or at home. She comped two meals, which wasn't necessary as this establishment couldn't pay me to eat there, it was really that bad. The restaurant was clean. The bathrooms were clean. The staff was friendly, but after my complaints, I would have thought I would have seen the manager. Save yourself. Go elsewhere. read more
