I ordered the tripoline in beef, pork, and veal ragu for $15 and it was a flavor bomb of fantabulousness. The savory dish really lit up my mouth. This was my first time having tripoline noodles and I loved them! They pick up the sauce and they are medium sized length and the texture is great. I also tasted the pomodoro in tomato, basil, and garlic sauce. It was good, the tomatoes were tart. The portion size is small and the price point higher than similar businesses that focus on pasta. Cozy date night vibes if you want to go out with your significant other or small group of friends on a Friday night, but food was subpar for the price tag. Focaccia was cold and bland. Usually a fan of burrata but this was also just meh at best. Pasta was cooked well but the ragú that came with it was too salty with heavier pork flavor rather than balance of both pork and beef that was advertised. Cacio de Pepe has a spicy kick to it and having it with a rigatoni pasta vs a spaghetti pasta was a change from the norm for us, it was delish. really great outdoor dining experience, but make sure to get here early because the seats fill up fast. they accept photos of vaccine cards. the marco's bon voyage is amazing. minty, berry-y and FROZEN. the burrata and salumi were fresh and tasted more unique than other restaurants'. the focaccia was a bit dense, but fine when paired with the burrata. the shape of the pasta in the ragu goes well with the sauce (meat get stuck in the crags). the ragu sauce leans much more meaty than tomatoe-y, which is more traditional. some acidity could help cut the fat because it's very heavy. the tagliatelle pasta is a bit on the thinner side in width; not a bad thing, just not the typical tagliatelle. the dish is very salty, but unsurprising because of the anchovies. however, some lemon could have helped cut the salt & fat, similar to the ragu. the duck is cooked well though! read more

The food is delicious. Unfortunately the treatment we got wasn't. The outdoor patio has limited shade (some tables in direct full sun). We were sat with a toddler under an umbrella and the waiter very kindly positioned it to give us shade. A little while later another table showed up in the full sun and someone else came and moved the umbrella to give them shade, leaving us in full sunlight. They even acknowledged it, but we were still in full sun as they accommodated other guests who had just arrived (we'd already ordered otherwise we would have left). Still floored the staff would do that. The place clearly needs more umbrellas. Do not come here if you want shade. read more

Stopped in on a Thursday night and they were pretty full, so we ended up on the "heated" patio. We each got the squash and pear soup, and the pork and lamb ragu pasta, neither of which wowed us. The waiter spent 2 min talking about the special olive oil the chef had gotten in that ended up as a drizzle on the soup; it also had small whole either tomatoes or gooseberries, not sure but it was odd. Went here for a birthday dinner. It is a great place for a special occasion. For appetizers: You should definitely try the Cavoletti Di Bruxelles - a twist on Brussel Sprouts that will blow you away. The slow roasted carrots, foccaccia and burrata and the Radicchio are a must have as well. Honestly, you can't go wrong with the appetizers. For a main course, the Reginette is perfect for bolognese fans and incredibly delicious. If you love a simple but divinely tasting pasta - I recommend the Tajarin al Cotello. A completely forgettable experience. Focaccia bread was not fresh-tasting. Rigatoni with ground lamb was as bland as can be, as were the other pasta dishes ordered by the others in my party. The portions were so small that it took us all about 7 minutes to finish. The aquavit cocktail was overly-sweetened, hiding any flavor of the aquavit which they pride themselves on distilling. The prosciutto tasted like anything you could get at QFC. Even the dessert was unremarkable...a few swirls of hazelnut/milk chocolate mousse, which got old after the second bite. This food truly is missing the wow factor, in the words on an earlier review. It is very expensive. Service was fine. The ambiance was cool. But after spending $180 before tip for 2 cocktails, one appetizer, 3 pasta dishes, and 1 dessert, none of which satisfied as a flavor or experience, I'm not sure why I would ever return. read more

We came in starving - and thought for a busy as this place was the food should be at least decent. What a disappointment. The our entrees were bland. We had the Reginette (watery ragu) Tajarin (butter noodles with five sage leaves and a tiny sprinkle of cheese). Both dishes were really over priced and very small portions. My friend and I went here for a mid week friend date. It took a minute for someone to come out and get us on the waitlist. They were busy for it being Wednesday. We put our name/ phone # down for a 30ish minute wait, which we didn't mind, and went Ciudad for some drinks and apps. They never called us to let us know our table was ready so we just went back after about 40 min and there was a table open by the entrance. The food was delicious, we ordered the burrata, three plates of pasta, and a bottle of wine. Everything was so yummy, we ate it all. I was tempted to order something to take home for the next day. My second dinner at this establishment, the first being a better experience. The food and drinks were good but the vibe from staff was a bit off putting. We ate outside in the covered space which had poor ventilation in warm weather. We politely asked the server to lower volume of music so we could hear our conversation. She obliged but volume seemed to increase shortly thereafter. Jets flying overhead and landing at Boeing field didn't make an outdoor dining experience very pleasant either. The server appeared put off by our request to split check 1/3 and 2/3 as if this had not occurred before. I would not recommend this establishment based on my second experience this evening. I would however recommend I'll Nido for much more satisfying dining. It has fantastic food without the attitude. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews, but felt a need to do it this time. We had dinner for four here last Friday to celebrate a family member's birthday. The place is small, with a few tables nestled around the entry podium and a few more in an adjacent room with the bar. There was an outdoor seating area as well but we dined inside. The first thing we noticed was the music. There was a mix, but seemed heavy on a techno theme - way too loud for conversation and a relaxed meal. The server was pleasant enough, but could have checked back to take our main dish order much sooner. The real disappointment wasn't the ambience or the service, but the food. This place is nothing like Jason Stratton's original Cascina Spinasse, which he started many years ago on Capital Hill and which we frequented often for a number of years. We were expecting the same great menu and attention to quality ingredients and superb flavors. We tried three appetizer/small plates - the burrata with mushed carrots and snap peas; the green beans with bagna cauda; and the endive. I can't really speak to the burrata itself as I didn't eat any, but the carrot/pea concoction was bland and didn't sing at all. Likewise the treviso. Described as a highlight with very bright flavors, it too was bland - some slightly bitter spears with sparse shavings of parmesan. The green bean bagna cauda was very fishy, too overpowering for my tastes but others in my party that it was good. So we had high expectations for the pastas - Reginette with beef and pork ragu; tajarin with butter and sage; pappardelle with tuna puttenesca; and another with roasted corn and some kind of mushroom. The first was the best, but still nothing to drool over with not quite enough of the ragu to balance the pasta. The puttenesca had a bit more flavor but the diced chunks of tuna (described as sashimi grade yellowfin), was overcooked to the point of tasting more like a bite of pork chop. My husband described the tajarin as top ramen with butter sauce. And the roasted corn pasta was just flat and flavorless. Overall impression - bland and uninspired, not one dish to relish. The meal was not cheap. We will not be returning. read more

Having traveled and eaten our way through Italy, Mezzanotte is one of the few local Italian restaurants that approximates eating in Italy. The casual atmosphere is relaxing, and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. There is superb attention to detail with the food and wine. We shared an antipasti platter, marinated olives (wow!), a salad, and a house made pasta that were all delicious... of the caliber you would find in Italy. Also, like Italy they offer carafes of the house wine that is really great. Mezzanotte is a gem in Georgetown where you can pretend to still be in Italy. read more

I get that you don't want to become a family restaurant but at the same time isn't that what meals are about? Such a horrible experience I'd like to warn people of before going here. I called earlier in the day to make a reservation for 2 people and they said they are not doing reservations for parties less than 6. Walk ins only. We arrived and asked for a table for 2, and the host (middle aged male) asked if we had a reservation. We said no and explained how we called earlier and they said they do not take reservations for small parties. We looked disappointed and then he condescendingly said "what do you expect, it's valentines weekend". We were ready to leave but then he randomly tells us he can get us a table in about 30 minutes. He added my info to the waitlist and said he will give us a call when table is ready. Hours passed and they never called. We were so upset we didn't want to go back to check because our first encounter with him was so off putting. I wasn't sure if I should write a review, but I saw other reviews with similar negative experiences with a particular host around what their reservation policy is. I'm still unsure at this moment if they take reservations for parties of 2 or if it's walk in because they are giving out contradictory information. read more
