I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. One minor thing that I really appreciated about the building itself is that they have descriptions of different menu items (for example, the ingredients in their different sauces) that would eliminate the need for me to have to ask about it when ordering (and anyone that knows me knows I always ask a thousand questions about what I'm ordering ). The menu premise is somewhat like a chipotle in that you pick a base (pita, bowl, salad, hummus), protein, and then customize it with toppings and sauces. My meal was a bowl (with house rice), gyro, banana peppers and the house sauce. Firstly the portions are very generous which I was appreciative of. And my meal had a lot of flavor, even with just a few ingredients. The rice was reminiscent of the rice from Nazareth (not quite the same but still good). The house sauce was a bit garlicky, but the dish itself actually didn't need much sauce because it had enough flavor in and of itself. My mom got a pita with shawarma meat and was highly impressed, so I'd say this is a winner for good Mediterranean spots to visit in the city! read more

Think "Mediterranean Chipotle." You go in, and order a bowl, pita, salad, or hummus plate at the counter. Choose your meat (7 choices, including tilapia, fresh veggies, and falafel), vegetables (lettuce, onion, tomato, banana pepper, cucumber, pickles), and sauce (house, tahini, or vinaigrette). Feta, olives, and "spice it up" are $1 extra- I hate when they charge extra for feta! Then, you go to your table with a number they give you and wait for your food to be delivered. If you haven't been there before, they'll give you a small platter of the two different rices (mujadara is cooked with small lentils and has a cinnamon flavor), as well as the different dips/spreads, such as the hummus, spicy feta, etc. Everything was above par. My fav had to be the eggplant that wasn't on the menu, but I had no complaints about anything I ate that night...although I wasn't a huge fan of the tahini. You MUST get a chocolate ball, which has a consistency like a chocolate truffle...you don't want to miss out! Overall, I really enjoyed this place and wish it was closer! There seem to be a lot of Greek/Middle Eastern places in Columbus that I go to because I like one of their menu items (the salad here, the falafal there, the tzatziki somewhere else, the soup another place altogether) and I end up ordering **around** the menu items I don't care for. Whats worse is that my partner likes different things at entirely different places. Tonight, we ate at Mezze and even though it was quite a jaunt from the gayborhood/village we live in, it will certainly be somewhere we come back to frequently. A friend of ours helped design the interior space (I should note that she doesn't work at the restaurant itself, so I'm not biased in that way....except the interior really is great!) She suggested that we give it a try tonight, especially because today was their first day open. True to their name, they have Mezze (which technically is the name given to small dishes that are meant to be shared...not hors d'oeuvres or appetizers...not sides....but...conversation, coming together, complimenting the gathering, and here eat this!) Pretty traditionally, you'll see the hummus, tzaziki, kopanisti but I suggest branching out too! As for the traditional meal-part: In some ways, this part of the menu and ordering is akin to Chipotle & Piada. Choose how you want it (in a pita, in a bowl, etc..) what kind (gyro, chicken, schawarma, etc..) and what goes on top (anything). They also have nice salads to offer and their house vinaigrette (with a touch of mint!) is amazing. As for desserts, I'm allergic to nuts (not a lesbian joke)....so while others can rave about the baklava....I'll tell you that the cheesecake is good...but the chocolate balls are perfection. Not too sweet, not too big - the perfect size, texture, and just great finish to a meal. So while I go here and there for one menu item....the multiple items I can say we'll be back to Mezze for and certainly recommend: the spicy gyro, the lentil soup, the fresh-cut french fries, the side salad with the house vinaigrette, and the chocolate balls. read more

I had an awesome meal today at Mezze. I'm so glad I got to finally try but also sad, since it's so far away from my house. I hadn't been over to the Hamilton/Morse area in some time, so I couldn't believe how built up everything was. Mezze is tucked away in a little strip next to Title Boxing and is easy to miss from the street. The guy running the register was super friendly and answered a few of my questions. I went with the Greek style gyro and got it medium with all the toppings, including feta and Kalamata olives. Rarely do I see a restaurant putting Kalamata olives on a gyro. The gyro itself is pretty cheap at $6 for how big it is but beware, the feta and olives are a $1 a piece to add and kicking the spice level up costs an extra $1. I wanted the full experience this time around, so I didn't really care. I also ordered a side of falafel, and the meal took about 5-7 minutes to come out. After adding a drink, the total came out to about $15, but I could have easily kept it under $10 without the falafel and the up charges. The gyro was really fantastic, and I'm really glad I upped the spice level, because it really gave it a nice kick. I can't say that the medium was overly hot as some reviews have mentioned, and I'm interested in trying the hot spice next time I go. This is one of the best gyros I've had in Columbus so far. Their house sauce is so delicious, and they'll let you try it beforehand if you're not sure about it. The gyro was freakin' huge too, and I was pretty stuffed after finishing it. I was able to muscle the falafel down, and they were fried just perfectly, but I really didn't need them. They would have been good to split. Overall, I'm taking my co-worker here next week, so he can try it out. This place rocks, and I'm almost glad it's not too close to me, because I'd be here all the time. I was traveling to Columbus, OH for work. I saw yelp reviews on this place and decided to give it a try. No wonder this place has 4.5 stars! This place is in a small shopping plaza and the place is also very small. "Hole in the wall" type of place feel. You can make your own plate by chosing the pita wrap, rice bowl, salad or the hummus platter (I think). Then it gives you the option to add choice of your protein and sauce. I got the spicy tilapia salad with vinaigrette. The tilapia was cooked just right. Tilapia itself can taste bit blend but the seasoning was well marinated. The vinaigrette was also good if you're looking for a healthy option. Their portion was pretty big for $9. I couldn't finish the whole salad. Was hungry and checked yelp for something nearby. This place had many people that rated and a great rating so decided to try. The concept is like Chipotle, only that you tell the person what you want up front what toppings you want. You can have a pita, a bowl a salad or hummus plate then add Greek or Lebanese style meat, toppings and sauce. The bowl, salad and hummus plates are a bit pricey at 8.75. The pits is 6.75. The restaurant is in a plaza which I don't like, but the area is nice and the interior decorations and environment is on the modern side and nice. Definitely worth a try. read more

Five words: The Chipotle of Mediterranean food! I happen to come across this fast-casual restaurant years ago, via searching for Greek food around columbus, thus, since I had a Groupon and a free night, the choice was made. I got here around 8 pm. There was one couple dining in at a table. I didn't have to wait in line (yay!). They serve gyros here. However, customers can get it in a pita wrap, as a salad over lettuce, or in a rice bowl. I picked the bowl option. Chance, young gentleman, perhaps early college age, greeted me. Polite, knowledgeable guy! He was thorough in explaining the difference between several add-ons. First up? What kind of rice I wanted. House rice or Mujadara? I chose the Mujadara - I don't eat enough lentils in my life :) decided on the gyro meat. I picked onion, cucumber, and house-prepared pickles (they are neither tart or sweet - interesting taste!) to top the bowl. I do love cheese, so for an added cost, feta! I sampled both the Tahini and Tzatziki sauces, but my taste buds weren't too gunhoo for those. Instead, Chance suggested my bowl be topped with there house-made Greek yogurt. Now that was good flavor! Billy worked the back of the house - prepared me dish. It only took a few minutes to concoct, as I was the only patron here, by that time. It was a super fast transaction, using one of my Groupons (some places have no idea how to ring it up). I thanked the guys as I departed. Was this place a tad bit farther than normal? Perhaps. Mezze is a great fast Mediterranean restaurant located at the Hamilton/Morse Road area. I've been here at least 5 times and now think it's time to write an actual review of my experiences. Each time I've been here I have been served right away, wait has not been bad. Granted I understand if it takes a while if you have many customers ordering all at the same time. They work, fast and effectively here. When you get in you notice the menu options on the board from salads, falafel or schwarma. You build your choice with a protein, toppings and finally the sauce you would like. I always go for the house if it's a salad. Although they have tzatziki, greek and one other one I forget. The protein's are great because let's say if you choose the gyro meat like me, you can either get it mild, medium or spicy. That also goes for the chicken. Falafel you can't really do that. I tend to like spicier things, although I know it's not great for my colon at the moment. You can never go wrong with Mezze for Mediterranean food options, it's fast and efficient. I know Nazareth is too but I was on a time crunch. I always come to Mezze if I'm on a time crunch and am near Morse Road. read more

As we recently moved back to the area, we have been eager to check out new dining establishments and found a Groupon which led us to Mezze on Hamilton Road. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by wonderful, fragrant fresh smells and a friendly bright environment. The owner, Steve was incredibly warm and friendly as he proactively asked if it was our first time then patiently walked us through the menu and made us feel welcome and comfortable, answering any questions we had about our choices for dinner. We LOVE Mediterranean food and have high expectations our favorite/go-to restaurants but genuinely, every bite was incredible, from the appetizer plate that the owner, Steve put together for us to the sauces (mezze, house & tzatziki) and our gyro pita & chicken shawarma bowl were absolutely amazing. I had the house rice (with cinnamon & vermicelli) which was impeccable as well. Steve also came by to offer us a taste of their falafel (on the house!) and I can say with 100% certainty that it was the best, freshest falafel I've EVER had. By far, the best gyro & chicken shawarma as well. Even the seasoned fries were amazing! The only mistake we made was using ketchup - (next time we'll just stick with the amazing house sauces!) We came in strangers but left friends, and we cannot wait to come back and bring all our friends and family to experience the glory of Mezze as well :) read more

Skeptical that I would also love this place as much as EVERYONE else, I took my men there last night. Just as everyone said the owner is awesome, as is his staff! He took a ton of time having us sample EVERYTHING! We got a plate with all the dips and spreads, as well as samples of the rice. I liked it all, great stuff, made in house and my head was spinning from him naming every single ingedient in every item! I had the greek salad with falafel, very innovative dressing, I can't pinpoint what all is in there (though he told me, shame on me) fresh and tasty. My son had the chicken gyros with pita and gobbled up every bite. My husband had the thicker pita with the gyro which he loved and the thinner pita with the kofte which he didn't like as much. We didn't try the shawarma as we are not fans of turkey so nothing to say to that. I think I also prefer it over Tava right up the street, must be tough competition having two same local restaurants right by each other, both owners were great, I think Mezze just a bit better. Again like most wrap places you get way too much veggie compaired to meat, and after going on about the rice I was expecting it in the salad and pita, I think for Columbus its a clear 5 star winner, but as far as authentic, it is still lacking. Let's just say the 20th century wasn't known for authentic ethnic foods and my prior experience with Mediterranean foods was bad enough to keep me away from the cuisine for almost two decades. Lately, I decided to give it another shot, and I have grown into a big fan -first Sababa on the far east side and now Mezze in Upper Arlington. Both a big bump up over what I have experienced up until now in my life. I had the hummus plate with shawarma and lamb. And it was delicious. The hummus base was earthy and flavorful; the lamb and shawarma was grilled a sepia brown while still holding on to it's savory taste. Served with vegetables that were fresh and crisp and a garlic sauce that was packed with piquancy. Finally, the feta cheese was the proverbial cherry on top, and my favorite part of the dish itself, as it gave the whole thing a tart spiciness that just moved the plate to a different level. The environment itself was comfortable, somehow rustic and yet modern with just enough light. And the air felt refreshing, almost as if the purveyors were piping in pure oxygen somehow. Experience: WOW! service from the gentleman handling the register, and a cherry on top with the spectacular friendliness of the manager! Give me a moment to brag for the one manning the register.. he was patient, up-beat, courteous, and proactively helping my friend and I out. When he saw us approach the line, he immediately offered a menu and his service, but he gave us a chance to think before introducing the variety of spices and selection. He was so kind to offer us samples of the mujadara as well as the house rice when I only accepted an offer to sample the mujadara! While serving my friend and I, the same man at the register lent his service to a gentleman who'd finished eating his meal. This customer was rather annoying, but the mezze register man handled him stupendously. All smiles, he not only appologized for the food that (get this) was not up to par with this sous chef's palate, but thanked him for the criticism, ensured to make effort to improve the food quality, and genuinely complemented his status as a sous chef.. what a guy! Then I notice the manager (perhaps owner?) and, my gosh was I just enthralled by the experience alone! The manager was definitely a friendly, do-good, approachable man. He went table to table picking up trash and greeted each of his customers, both large and small. I think he makes an effort to greet familiar customers by name too, and asked a small boy how soccer season was going for him.. talk about outstanding customer service!! Food: Fresh!! It is a chipotle-concept mediterranean eatery, and good variety of basic mediterranean dishes. Meat is prepared on the spot, so nothing grows old in one of the holding bins. Sauces and counter-top kept squeaky clean as well as the kitchen floors and cooking surfaces. I chose the rice as my base, which I was served a large portion. I chose shwarma and all the veggies that come with my choice. The rice was perhaps an "over-size", but all others are just about right. Steeler fan behind the counter is awesome and we also share the same tattoo artist at Twisted Tattoo (Paul Caso). I always feel like I'm at home and we go often enough that they make us feel like Norm from Cheers when we walk in. Mezze meets all the criteria for your hometown favorite. Good food, good people, and they make you feel at home. DEREK: Food is made to order and comes out fresh and hot. I have tried a number of items off the menu and my favorites are the gyro salad, fries, and spicy feta. Troy, the food is so fresh it seems like they just picked it out of the garden in the back of the strip mall. OK - there is no garden back there but how well did you like the ingredients? DEREK: Surprise of my visits are talking with and meeting all the cool people that go/work at Mezze. It is so refreshing to go to a place and actually interact with and communicate to total strangers --- and be comfortable doing so. Something that has been lost living in a big city like C-Bus. Looking for a place to eat and the parents did not have a lot of input. So I consulted the yelp for nearby handy places for lunch. I found this online with some solid reviews and chose to come here. It's a you pick your desired condiments and then sit down type of restaurant. It's middle eastern style though. So pick a base, protein, spice level, and sauce. There are also items like baba Ganoush for appetizer order. (Which we did try.) I opted for a rice bowl- two types of rice- one with lentils and other spices one slight different. My parents for a gyro. My bowl arrived topped with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and Greek olives in addition to my shawarma chicken. Very nice portion and I did not eat it all. I added a side of tzatiki which I adore! We also had the appetizer of Baba ganoush. My parents sandwich was full of fresh veggies, meat, sauce, olives which my parents shared and downed. We even left with some of the appetizer. Fresh and good, good amount of food for the money. Recommend as a healthy lunch/ dinner option. This place seems to get pretty mixed reviews but I have no complaints. I actually came here based on other Yelpers' good reviews and I am so glad I did. Yes, I see why the comparison to Chipotle. But really, beyond the way the counter and ordering is set up, the comparison stops there. It was our first time there, so the staff gave us a sample of EVERY SINGLE ITEM ON THE MENU. We even told them they didn't have to, because we weren't all that hungry, but they insisted. Well, I'm not going to argue about free food. It wasn't the absolute best Mediterranean food I've ever had, but it was pretty darn good. The baba ghanouj was delicious. I could take or leave the spicy feta, but I get it that they want to have a gimmick. Falafels were flavorful and crispy, the tabouli was perfect. The owner personally came to thank us for coming in. The food is probably a 4 - 4.5 star experience, but the service definitely bumped it up to a solid 5. Well worth a trip to Hamilton Road. read more

Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall on North Hamilton Rd, this restaurant has a beautiful and contemporary interior, as well as a very knowledgable staff. You order cafeteria style (i.e., choose your base, meat, toppings and sauce). I had the Mezze Plate appetizer with my choice of 3 dips: hummus (very light and fresh), Baba Ghannouj (deliciously smokey) and Matbucha (perfectly sweet and spicy). For my meal I ordered some of the best Tabouleh I've had in the states (comparable to what I've had in the Middle East) with Shawarma (I think it was chicken). It was a very generous portion. My partner had Chicken Gyro meat on a bed of rice with assorted veggies and tahini sauce. The Gyro meat was very well-seasoned, and again the portion size was generous. We finished the meal with a chocolate ball, having been recommended by other Yelpers. It was definitely a great way to finish off the meal. All-in-all, this is excellent Middle Eastern food, and I highly recommend it if you're in the area. read more

Review update to say Mezze is still going strong a year after my first review. I still love everything I've had here and I keep going back for more on a regular basis. The chicken gyro has a nice blend of spices on it, and if you want spicy the spice it up option will definitely get you there. Service with a smile can't be understated, and everyone here is great. Johnny is the owner and a super nice guy, and Justin is also awesome and works behind the counter most of the time. I'll forgive his Steelers hat due to his awesomeness. I have really been enjoying the falafel and feta here. The feta is really delicious. Really. Bottom line, everything is still excellent. Check it out. read more

Mezze was wonderful!!! This place is tucked away a few doors down from Hamilton Pub in a strip mall. What a treat. Don't let the Chipotle style ordering throw you. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They give you samples and don't rush you. The House rice and House dressing are SCRUMPCIOUS. They do "Greek style" or "Middle Eastern" style, which apparently means loose like a typical gyro, or tighter like a wrap. (Or, as one staff member said, "One is peaceful, one is angry." Oh-kay...) This was my first visit here and I don't think I'll be back. The sauce is more like a liquid that my gyro is swimming in and it made the pita very soggy. I can only describe the tzatziki sauce as weird and gritty. The chicken is dry, but has a good flavor. I got a chocolate ball ($2) which tastes good but has the texture of under-baked, mushy cake. If I had known that that it was so tiny, I would have never ordered it. The menu says "chocolate balls" as in plural, so I feel like I got ripped off. The man that helped me at the counter was nice and seemed knowledgable of the menu. But, he only gave me one napkin for this sloppy, messy gyro that I ordered to go. Update: I'm adding an extra star to my review. The owner contacted me, in hopes of making me happy. It's hard to find good customer service these days and he went out of his way to try and keep a customer.
