DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD! I don't speak much Italian, but if Mezzo means 'mediocre', then this place doesn't even qualify for its namesake. We went out on a limb on a Saturday evening and tried Mezzo. I figured that since we've tried all te other Italian places in the vicinity, why not give this place a chance.......big mistake. This has to be the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life. We arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday night....prime time for dinner. There appeared to be approximately 5 or 6 waitresses working. When we got there, half of the tables were empty, but they said there was a 30 minute wait. We thought that was a bad sign, but stuck it out and ordered a beer at the bar. When we finally got seated (at a table that was empty the entire Time we were waiting) our waitress didn't come to the table for 10 minutes. We ordered our meals, and we never saw her again. No one came to our table again until the food showed up 30 minutes later, delivered by one of the kitchen staff. When we got our food, we had no silverware. The hostess said that we didn't have any because it was all dirty. We finally got the kitchen staff to find us some forks (they still couldn't find clean knives). My $16 chicken fettuccine Alfredo sauce was very clearly just from a jar, no flavor, and served room temperature. The couple 1/4" wide strips of chicken were certainly not worth the $3 up charge. This was bad, but not terrible. My wife ordered the shrimp & capellini. Absolutely disgusting. What was supposed to be an EVOO white wine garlic sauce was ....... No sauce at all. The red onion and baby spinach was a pile of nastiness on plain cold pasta. One bite, and this thing was headed for the trash. I had to search the restaurant for our waitress. I told her that the shrimp dish was inedible, and she took it off the bill without question. Almost as if she had heard that before. I paid our bill and left. I'm not sure what kind of management this place has, but they clearly do not have waitstaff, hostesses, or kitchen staff that are properly trained for jobs in the food service industry. I believe I saw the manager every once in a while, and he appeared to be telling customers that the wait was very long and many of the left. I wish I did the same. I think Mezzo should eliminate their dinner menu's and focus primarily on drinks. On another note, the place was nice inside. Modern/Industrial looking inside, with an awesome outdoor patio. It could be a great restaurant, but not at this point. Don't go there unless you are just getting drinks. read more

Nice patio, but we've been here for an hour and no service. Waitress finally came by once, brought menus, and hasn't come back for 20 mins. Made obvious eye contact twice.....just ignored us. It's a party of 9. Service at the bar wasn't blatantly rude, but not nice by any stretch of the imagination. Outside bartender, she was very dismissive. Most of our party left annoyed. The couple that stayed said the apps came out cold. Yes, it was busy. ....but it's always busy on the weekends.....figure it out. A year ago things seemed different. I can't recommend this place unfortunately. If you want the outside environment go to Eli Cannons instead. read more

I've never eaten here but in the summer the Tikki Bar outside the back of the restaurant is my fav place to have a cocktail! Big circular bar on an elevated deck under a thatch roof, u can sit out there rain or shine. No drink menu though, would be big plus to serve up some specialty island-inspired/tropical drinks since they already got the whole vibe going! Mezzo is hands down the best restaurant that has been in this location, but I think it's more of a summer spot. The outdoor patio and "tiki bar" are great because it's an open space with plenty of seating. Drink prices are not outrageous and service is quick. I have recently been back for dinner since the patio closed, and I was disappointed by the menu. Besides a couple pasta dishes, there was a vegetarian appetizer and a few salads all including cheese. No love for the vegans here! Probably not a place I would go back to for food...just drinks! read more

Terrible service and horrid bathrooms. I mean horrid. Pee all over the floor, clogged toilets, lack of bathrooms period. I literally try to avoid going, but it's hard when you are drinking. I have slipped several times on pee. No toilet paper, and awful smell. I cannot believe no one has called the health department by now! Drinks are very expensive and there are barley ever any decent specials. We only go in the summer for the outdoor area, but avoid going at all costs period. The faux nightclub is disgusting! Mezzo grill needs a wakeup call. We have been frequent visitors and when going out for my birthday celebration last night, mezzo was a natural choice. Upon arriving at 9:45, our party of 12 was denied entry because one of the boys was wearing brown boots. Not work boots, just casual brown boots. We were all dressed up and were there last week wearing similar outfits. This guy wore the exact same boots the week before with no problems. We asked for the manager, the meathead bouncer never went to get him and we were told "he doesnt want to talk to you". Meanwhile, a 65 year old man dressed in dirty clothes, a guy in dickies work pants and a guy wearing BROWN BOOTS were all let in while we were outside. This is Middletown, not Greenwich. Get over yourselves. My advice... gO somewhere else. This place obviously doesnt need your business. read more

Finally got to try the "new" upscale restaurant in Middletown. This is the old Fishbone. Interior hasn't changed too much. Bar has a huge TV screen showing multiple games which is pretty cool. Now on to the food and drinks..Waited 10 mins at the bar to be served which was not a good start to the experience although once we did finally get their attention the service was good. We both had the house Cabernet and they have a great pour for $6.50. We decided to split the scallops entree because the small plate selections were primarily meat choices and we were not in the mood for salads or calamari. Fresh garlic bread was brought out and I will have to say it was decent. Maybe a tad too oily but good. After another glass of wine our scallops finally arrived. Eight seared scallops served over a corn puree and roasted sweet potatoes. A nice combination but it needed some change in texture after a few bites. The dish was prepared nicely but didn't blow us away. The only thing hot on the dish were the scallops. The dining room was filled which is a good sign. They still have the lounge upstairs with comedy at this time. Will give it another try in the future but nothing made us want to return soon. read more

Decided to walk Main Street Middletown looking for a spot to enjoy a drink on a drizzly Friday night with my wife. Original thought was to head to Eli's, but the place was packed beyond belief and felt more like a frat party. I like's me some Eli Cannons, but not when it's like that. So we walked up and down Main Street before seeing the Mezzo Grille peeking out from a side street...Thought we would give it a try. I can't speak to the food, but wife and I agreed that this is a great spot for a drink whether you are looking for a craft brew or mixed drink. Bar area is nice and open, and while there was a good crowd (we showed up at the same time as a pub crawl), you didn't feel crowded. Have a cool wall of TVs at the bar as well if you want to catch a game (or 9 I guess...they have a 3x3 matrix of TVs going). Nice amount of craft beer choices. There was also a guy playing acoustic guitar in the dining room doing 80's / 90's era rock / pop. Right up our alley. Great nightcap to close out the night. Would definitely hit up again in the area. read more

Made a reservation for a large group (20) for a graduation party. We had family coming in from all over/other states. When we arrived with our large party, we found the restaurant closed. No one from the restaurant contacted us to let us know that they would no longer be able to accommodate us. Terrible customer service! read more

Came here one Friday evening with a group of friends to do dinner and drinks. I heard that it becomes quite fun after dark- so we figured let's give it the go-ahead. Initially told there was no outdoor seating available because they were getting ready for the night crowd, however the lead host found us a nice spot in the deck. The young lady who was our waitress looked frazzled, didn't provide us water or utensils or ever ask us for drinks again once we finished the ones we had. It also took her about 30 minutes to take care of our check. The food was bland- not one of us had a great meal. The only reason I am giving this place three stars is because of the atmosphere, music, and bartenders- all of which are great! read more

I was at Mezzo Sunday evening. The music and outdoor bar were awesome! the food was okay but our server was pretty bad. The calamari were good... a little greasy, but good. I also had the chicken and chokes. It was a great dish. I was disappointed in the portion size. It was definitely small for the price. A friend I was with ordered the chicken tenders. After the waitress forgot to write it down, the chicken came out late and RAW in the middle. Totally unacceptable! So, that brings me to the heart of the problem... the waitress. She was a complete airhead. Couldn't get our food order right. Asked us three different times how we were going to be splitting our check and still messed it up. She had no idea what beers they served. I asked her twice for a beer that other people were drinking and she told me they didn't have it and the people probably brought it in themselves. Overall, I would give it another try. The food I had was good, other food was not. The waitress was one of the worst I've ever had. The atmosphere, outdoor bar, and music were great. read more

Went on a Thursday late afternoon with the ladies in my family ranging in age from 20 to 70. The service was excellent, our waitress went above and beyond to provide good service. Drinks were delicious. I had one called mermaid something. Very yummy. For dinner I had shrimp and grits and it was delicious and filling. We start out our visit outside but it got too hot and we finished up indoors. I liked the atmosphere of both. We all enjoyed the atmosphere, good, and great service. I will return. read more

Visited the place for the first time tonight. Total disappointment. Sat down in the back outdoor area at a table with my friends but no waitress came to take our order. We decided to go up to the bar and the bartender ignored us while cleaning the bar area for 5 minutes. Finally got to order and they charged us $10 for a strawberry lemonade vodka drink. Paid $30 for two drinks and 3 fish tacos. On top of that when our fish tacos came out they never gave us plates or napkins. Will never to back here. This is for the bar/nightlife, not the food. Mezzo's is hit or miss for me. Some Friday/Saturday nights the DJ is incredible and the dance floor is a blast. Other times the DJ is horrible and only plays house music with mind-numbing repetitive beats that never drop and will occasionally play a recognizable song only to re-mix it and ruin it. But, I have had some really fun nights dancing here. There's an inside dance floor and an outside dance floor for variety in all weather. Bartender outside tried to charge me for water so I went to the inside bar and got it for free. That was annoying. Drinks are a tad expensive- $9-10 for a vodka/soda with house vodka. They have started charging a cover- $5 before 10PM and $10 after 10PM (something like that). I asked the girl at the door if the cover was new (knowing 100% it was) and she told me, "no we've always had a cover". I've been coming here on and off for 5 years and never paid a cover before. Anyway, I can sort of get over the cover for a quality DJ. The bouncers, oh man. They set the wrong tone. Let's put it that way. Real 'thug' vibe. As I said, I've had a ton of fun here and other nights not so much. Still worth a visit- especially if you love to dance. read more

We emailed selections, a week before arriving, so we were able to get in and out in good time and be one our way to our next destination. Lately my boyfriend and I have been unintentionally creating a list of places we will never go again...poor service, improperly cooked food, etc. Well, Mezzo was a pleasant experience, food was great and so was the service and we have just started a list of places we'll definately go again. I visited Mezzo Grille last week with some family, and overall the food and service was good. I've heard that the outdoor patio is beautiful, but unfortunately it was raining and we didn't have the opportunity to sit out there. The inside decor, however, is inviting and stylish. As for the food, I had the lobster, which was well-prepared (on Thursdays, the lobster is very affordable and I certainly recommend it). They have a decent drink and appetizer selection as well. Overall, I wasn't floored by the food or service but I can't say anything bad about it either. It's worth visiting if not for just once. read more

Stopped in for lunch this past Friday, was quite as it was good Friday but a nice place to have a few beers and cups of New England Clam Chowder. I hate leaving bad reviews but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It is dirty and disorganized and the staff is unprofessional. Our waitress had no knowledge of the menu. The cocktail list said there was seasonal and daily Moscow mule specials but when I asked about this she had no idea what I was talking about. The menu was dirty and sticky. There were so many employees just wandering around looking lost, including a girl who barely had any clothes on. The drink I ordered was watery and gross, and when I said I didn't like it the waitress did nothing. The pizza was mediocre at best. I guess it's a cool place if you're a college student who wants to get wasted or something but other than that, stay away. It's too bad because the patio is a cool setup and it could be a really fun place. But it's too trashy for me. read more

We went for dinner @ 8 PM last nite. 4 large parties had just been sat so we were asked to wait about 15 minutes to be sat. We went to the bar where he got a Corona to calm him down & I got a yummy Death by Chocolate Martini. The martini was awesome! About 15-20 after arrival got a table. They were out of sheets with specials listed so host read off his phone. I ordered the lobster fettuccine & hubby had rib eye. Food was really good; service was slow. My hubby was in restaurant business for many years & couldn't understand the wait. My special lobster fettuccine was $16.95 & had lots of lobster. This was our 5-6 time in couple years. We go for food knowing service can be spotty. read more
