While there's a set of new trendy restaurants popping up, it seems that Mi Flor Blanca has been doing something right, as it has stuck around for a long time. This review is for the Pupusas, which are great. I really enjoyed that they weren't greasy, and full of the stuffed toppings. I look forward in trying the other typical appetizers and dishes in the future.

Mi Flor Blanca is El Salvadorian restaurant in USC territory. There's street parking out in the front. It's a humble place. The hostess didn't speak English but not to fear. My lunch partner came to my aid, and of course, I used my non verbal communication skills, including hand motions and facial expressions. I had the grilled shrimp, which came with large perfect avocado pieces. They almost looked artificial. It comes with rice, but I asked for salad instead. It was delicious. My lunch partner ordered a large drink with copious fruit pieces. I don't know what it's called, but I've never seen it before. The cheese pupusa came with pickled cabbage and salsa. It had a unique flavor.

Quite often visited and loved probably the best quality establishment around the USC restaurant, Bacaro LA http://www.yelp.com/biz/bacaro-la-los-angeles, however never decided to stop into the Salvadorian restaurant nextdoor which always looked appetizing. I wanted something quick, cheap and small proportioned, so I gutted for a dinner snack papusas. Real central american place and no one there speaks A WORD of ENGLISH. But no worries, my high school spanish kicked in like a superhero, which resulted with looks of confusion by the person behind the counter, pointing, mispronunciation and finally an order :) I asked for the recommended pupusas, so I ordered PAPUSA REVUELTA, a mixed meat, cheese and possible other findings and the PAPUSA DE LA...FLORA? Some type of flower with cheese. I also went for some kind of fruity Salvadorean orange drink freshly made (ENSALADA FRUTA) that was really good especially if it were a hot summer day. The pupusas came within 10 minutes with sacuy sour cabbage and some type of thick sweet and sour sauce. I dumped loads of the cabbage on as the pupusa was a bit bland. In addition, I was expecting crispy outside and juicy cheesy insides with savory meat. However the papusa was a bit doughy all around, no spice tasted in the bread or inside for the matter. The papusa revuelta was pretty good, however wish it were meatier and more savory. The other papusa with flower was overly cheesy, quite bland and tasteless. Not sure if I would come back and try other main course dishes, although does look quite appetizing. Would rather hop next door to Bacaro.

A rat. Sorry, but this isn't okay.

I absolutely love this place, my favorite pupusas. Cash only but they have an ATM. Always hits and is now the only place I go for pupusas!

We came a couple of months ago and had their loaded yucca fries with carne asada as well as some pupusas. The meat on our fries felt really low quality-- the best way I could describe it was it tasting like frozen hamburger meat-- and gave us indigestion for the rest of the night, which was really disappointing to experience. Today we unfortunately experienced some really rude service. My bf ordered a plain water and we were given a fresco ensalada (no big deal, he likes it) We don't eat pork and ordered fried yucca on its own, just yucca frita. We were given a plate of yucca con chicharron :( I told the service we just ordered yucca frita and we were told that we did not specify that for her. I explained that we don't eat pork so we sent it back and were met with a displeasing look. I said we didn't want to yucca anymore since we had a lot of food already and she said "the kitchen already made it." So I said it was fine but just the yucca this time and she came back with the same exact plate just without the chicharron-- no visible plate change. Needless to say for the price, decline in food quality, and rude service, it's not worth coming back. At least not for a while.

We started with the ensalada, which was refreshing and had just the right amount of sweetness. For pupusas, we ordered the revueltas, loroco con queso, and frijol con queso. We tried both corn and rice dough, and honestly, both were delicious. My personal favorite was the frijol con queso with the rice dough- so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The yuca frita was exactly how it should be: crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The chicharrón was cooked perfectly as well, and the homemade green salsa that the sweet lady helping us made was the perfect addition. She was so kind, welcoming, and always had a friendly smile, which made the experience even better. Another thing that really stood out was how clean the restaurant is. It's spacious, with plenty of seating whether you're coming with a large group, your family, or just stopping by for a meal on your own. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely be back. Next time we're bringing my Salvadoran in-laws- I have a feeling this place will get their authenticity approval too! Spanish!

If you've been to El Salvador and know what authentic Salvadorian food is supposed to taste like, this place will bring back some memories.
