I want to start by saying I absolutely loved the food here and the old school, Mexican restaurant vibe. It's the way it used to be done all the time and it's hard to find now from the free, amazing, bottomless chips and salsa to a great selection of margaritas, even blended! If you remember, you remember. Bring an appetite, the portions are huge and make for great leftovers. It took quite a while for somebody to greet us and seat us, and even though the service was slow, our waiter was amazing and we were patient because we could tell they were understaffed. Oh, what a hidden gem! I'd walked past Mi Casa in Costa Mesa so many times, but the exterior never really drew me in--no big windows, no line outside. But once I finally went in, I got it. The space is huge! There's a more formal-feeling dining area, a casual section with booths, and in the back, a laid-back bar area where they do Taco Tuesday and happy hour specials. The food is so, so good! If you get a combo, you have to try the Baja fish taco--it's super generous and full of flavor. I love their veggie side, too--zucchini and other veggies, grilled perfectly. The rice and beans are solid, and their margaritas are fantastic--especially the Cocorita, which has coconut. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a chance--I'm so glad I did! read more

UPDATE: Not impressed by the lack of any real internal accountability. What you are describing did not happen. Your manager cancelled the original order without realizing it and therefore the driver could not deliver it. She refused accountability and doubled down on arguing with a customer instead. I would suggest recording business calls and listening to how your manager speaks to customers when you aren't around. As a business owner myself, I'm certain any owner would fire her on the spot. ORIGIONAL: The manager here on 1/21/26 conducts herself like a 13 year old child. Ordered on door dash. Waited 30m. At driver pickup, my order was cancelled by the restaurant and a new order was started. Waited another 30m. Driver attempted pickup and they refused to provide the order. Driver called me and then they got on the phone. The staff was arguing with me and telling me they have made the order 3 times and gave it to 3 different drivers. I told them what I was seeing in my order history. She continued to tell me, the customer that I wasn't understanding her perspective! I explained I have paid for dinner and waited an hour only to be told they won't provide the order. I told her that she should not be complaining to her customer but instead to DoorDash. She said "fine we'll make the order again but don't call back!" I never even called them. The driver called me and they got on the phone to go off on me. They don't even deserve to be in business when they conduct themselves like that. read more

Let's talk about landmark restaurants in Orange County and you have to mention Mi Casa. A long and interesting history of this restaurant is shared among thousands of patrons over the years. I think I had two, maybe three birthdays here. It's a very special place to a lot of people. The decor is the same as it was when I was a kid. Red leather, brown carpeting, and wood tables and chairs. The menu is simple. The food is excellent. What makes this place so special is the amount of food you get for the price. When so many places are offering less and less in food value, Mi Casa's gives you more, and more. All the meals are sharable. For example, I shared a taco combo. They understood. They split it up. Two separate plates for the tacos. One plate for beans and one separate plate for fried vegetables. Incredible amount of food for $18. My chicken taco had at least a half pound of cheese on it. In the market, they sell that much cheese for $7.00 Enjoy, you are now at Mi Casa. Share your food or make two meals out of it. I almost forgot, our server called me "honey," and I loved every minute of it. I called her "Sweetie," and she called me "Honey." I felt like royalty. read more

We came here last night for dinner. First of all what a cute quaint place! Love the location. The wait was nothing. Maybe waited 10 minutes to get a table. The place was pretty full yet the service was amazing! The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food runners were friendly too. Oh my goodness I wanted to order everything in the menu, but I went ahead with what seems to be the speciality of the place, the shredded beef crunchy taco, full of shredded beef, lettuce and tons of cheese. I also ordered the chicken enchilada with the green sauce, they didn't skimp on the filling. Comes with rice and beans. At the bar area all you can eat chips and salsa bar with mild, hot to very spicy. The service is was ver nice. They are welcoming, quick and very pleasant. I went to Mi Casa about 20 years ago with an old friend and the food was delicious back then. Last week I took my brother and sister in law to eat there, and the food was absolutely awful! I was shocked! Even the salsa that they put on the table for the chips was nothing more than canned tomato sauce . How often can you say that you sat in the same spot, on your birthday, that the President of the United States sat? We have been going to this restaurant for many decades, and it has changed very little in that time. The food is wonderful, and is a perfect example of what wonderful southern California Mexican food can be. Yes, they update the prices here and there, And there is the usual swap out a various staffers, but the service and ambience continue to be exemplary. Decent chicken flautas. Absolutely horrible salsa. It looked and tasted like a cheap ketchup. My friend who likes ketchup wouldn't even eat it. Pace would have run circles around it. Where do I start? This place has been an institution for me growing up. After baseball games, must-have when visiting home from college, to now living right down the street and hanging out in the burro room once a week. It's all gone. Mi Casa was the perfect quick beer after work kinda vibe. It was cozy and dark, had cheesy beer signs from the 90's and an unforgettable staff (at least that's the same). It's now brighter than the sky outside and the noise caused from removing the walls, wood and carpet is unbearable. Removing the wall that separated the restaurant from the Burro Room feels like the worst of it. But I can't stop asking why. What was the point. If the ownership and menu are the same then what was the point of the remodel. I fully agree they could've used an update, but why so sterile? The food is still amazing, but we're in SoCal. Good Mexican food on every corner. I'm sad to say that after a lifetime of memories, we probably won't be coming back as often. What's scares me is I don't think we'll be the only ones... read more

I typically don't write reviews but feel like I have to with this one. We ordered a basic quesadilla and a side of rice for my 4yr old son who has food allergies and this is one of his safe foods. I made the mistake of looking up "Mexican food" versus taqueria in the area since we aren't from here. The rice was decent, but neither of my 3 kids who LOVE quesadillas liked whatever this place made. The salsa that was provided tasted like Pace salsa straight out of the jar. The chips lacked flavor. Rewriting and downgrading to 3 stars from 5 (ambiance 1, food 4). Wow, what happened to Mi Casa?? We've been coming here for 30 years, back when Barrie was seating people, and after having lunch here today, we were so stunned that we paused on the way out and almost said something to the manager (he seemed super nice btw). **GUYS** people go to dinner at a restaurant for 2 things- the food and the vibe/ambience (how the place makes you feel), and you screwed with both of the things that made you popular for over 50 years? Your remodel stripped out the super inviting and cozy, dark wood, kitschy old-school Mexican vibe and throw-back bar that made us want to order a second round of margaritas, and turned it into a bright white, open, sterile, noisy, generic restaurant with largely blank walls that's a stylistically and visually confusing mess. Then there's this big white wall separating the right side, which is now..man, this makes me sad.. it turned into a big open space with cheap tables that looks like a cafeteria. On to the food. Not sure what changed with the cheese enchiladas; the sauce picked up a slightly odd taste. The chili relleno was great; maybe a touch better than before. Seems like they also tried to upgrade the quality of the food too, and we appreciate what you are doing- Really. The problem is, Mi Casa is known for its unique taste. On the upside, the chips and tortillas seem fresher, and a big 5 stars to the new staff; the service was exceptional. In the end, we left feeling super sad that we lost something special (and without having any margaritas; Mi Casa no longer feels like a place we want to hang out at, and we didn't seem to be the only people that looked confused). I'm a change agent and love it when something gets better, but this seems like an epic fail. We'll come back once more in a couple of months just to be sure, but for the first time in 30 years, we left without wanting to come back again :( :( read more

These nachos are GODLY!!! Stop, look at the amount of cheese one these beauties! They were a 10 out of 10. We got the jalepenos on the side and I asked for olives because I love black olives. We came in like 20 mins before they were going to close and the servers still greeted us with a smile, were prompt in helping us and getting our order out. Even though we were still eating and enjoying our company after 9pm (closing) they didn't rush us our or awkwardly hover and stare at us to get us to leave. There were plenty of nachos to take home and although the chips got soggy, they were still so bomb and had great flavor! Honestly I rarely eat nachos without covering them in salsa but these nachos were so good they didn't need anything else. We found this place shortly after moving to Costa Mesa a couple of years ago and we still love it! The food is always fresh and good. Served at a nice hot temperature so you can readily dig in! Service is a A+ and we're really enjoying the remodel/freshening up! A couple of things we've learned is that the margaritas vary, sometimes great, sometimes totally unpalatable.
