I only discovered this rest. because it was on my dallas passport, and Im def ready to go back again. Our server was okay, I felt like he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. It was our first time at the restaurant and I didn't feel the hospitality from him. However the hostess and manager were very welcoming and friendly. The elotes were my least favorite, it's a bit on the drier end and I prefer the creamy version. The tortilla chips with the hot salsa was pretty good. So good that we got a second order of the sauce to eat with the tacos. The brisket tacos were chef's kiss! I loved the rice as well, very well seasoned. I don't eat beans but my husband really liked it as well. Last but not least the tres leches was a 10/10! I never had a strawberry version and this def set the bar high. Drinks were nice and strong! We arrived right in the middle of the lunch rush around 12:30, and honestly, you wouldn't have been able to tell how busy it was because the service was that exceptional. We were seated on the patio, which made for a really nice atmosphere, and our servers were incredibly fast, attentive, and efficient the entire time. What really stood out to me was the manager, Becca, who was actively working the floor and checking in on guests. It's so refreshing to see that level of involvement--it definitely shows in the quality of service. Since it was my first time here, I didn't quite know what to expect, but I left thoroughly impressed. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, and they were amazing. They were still super busy and got us seated pretty quickly. I recommend the fajitas, so much food to share between two people. They even provided extra tortillas on request. I had yet to try other dishes here, but will definitely be back. The restaurant has an outdoor patio that is pretty popular as well, especially on nights with nice weather. Last Friday, I tried coming to Escondido to eat - and it was packed. We went to another restaurant, but I hoped in a Tuesday night I could get in - and luck was on my side. We were seated immediately and I was happy. We ordered the el trio - queso, guacamole, and cilantro ranch. Okay, so it's time I tell you - you have cilantro in the name of anything and I'm going to order it. I LOVE cilantro. Well, all three dips were delicious, and my favorite was the cilantro ranch. When we ordered dinner, I got the chicken fajitas and my husband the salmon. My fajitas had a jalapeño grilled with the onions and chicken and it did give it a kick - but what a great kick of flavor it was. And the display for my fajitas was a thing of beauty. The fixings, rice and beans were in the bottom level, and the fajitas were on to. It was layered on top of a pizza holder. Genius! Our waitress was Jessica, and she wins the most attentive waitress award from me. When our chips were getting low, I didn't have to ask for more chips. No sir! She walked over with a fresh (hot) basket of chips. How refreshing! And when our drinks were half empty, she was right there filling them up. And she did it all with a smile. This wasn't just a job for her. She knew her stuff. When my husband asked for menu suggestion, there was no hesitation - she started telling him the most popular items and why he would enjoy them. I didn't get many pictures of the inside of this lovely place, and that's a shame because it's a gem. There were enough people in the restaurant and I don't like taking pictures of people (when possible). But whomever designed this restaurant knows what they're doing. Great service from the moment you walk up to the porch of this place. We received a nice warm and friendly greeting reminiscent of walking into a friend's house. While the patio is inviting here, the evening was settling into a coolness that made the warmth of the interior much more attractive. From the tile on the floor to the lighting on the ceiling this place has a great feel. Add the Mexican music and you are carried away to a different place. We ordered the Ancho Butter Fajitas and the Guajillo Glazed Shrimp. The Fajitas were served with grilled jalapeños, potato, peppers, onions,cheddar cheese, pico,guacamole, rice and refried beans. Solid! We stumbled upon this place after getting massages and weren't disappointed. We sat at the bar and ordered steak fajitas and a chicken and beef enchilada plate. My BF loved the flour tortillas and the sour cream sauce on my enchiladas was really good. We also enjoyed the salsa that came with the chips and their lemonade was good too. My only negative is they put peas in their rice, and I had to pick them out. I also didn't care too much for the beans, but they paired decently with everything on my plate. What a fabulous evening! Escondido is a super cute restaurant with a nice heated patio for chilly nights. We came in to celebrate our friends bachelorette and the wait staff took such good care of us! The drinks were so tasty and refreshing! We started with the trio of dips. The queso was my favorite but all three were so good and tasted like they were made from fresh ingredients! To eat i had the chicken enchiladas with red sauce, rice and a side of the elote. I dont think ive had better elote in my life so far! I wish i could have taken a whole to go container home of it! The enchiladas were also super tasty and filling. Others at the table ordered tacos and other versions of the enchiladas and they were all just as happy with their meals! First time trying this spot - it was okay! The patio has a nice vibe with tvs in the bar area (has heaters in winter) and the inside is bright and light with fun decor. The service was okay, nothing memorable but not bad. Apps: queso perfecto with a side of flour tortillas. The chips are thicker so be careful not to fill up - people who prefer thinner, lighter chips will not enjoy these heavy chips. Entrees: you can mix and match the sauces on the enchiladas so I tried the chicken enchiladas with the sour cream sauce (good!). Our waiter was quick to serve us and we ordered drinks I had a skinny margarita that was terrific served in a tall glass. The menu is a wonderful combo of Tex mex and Mexican entrees. Our table ordered a varied of entrees including carne asada chicken enchiladas a beef taco and enchilada the pork chop and the salmon. I had the salmon and a bite of the pork chop--- they were both amazing!!! The restaurant is very well decorated I loved the cactus chandelier and the outside patio is beautiful. We have been back to this restaurant several times since my last review and we keep going back so we must love it. We still sit at the bar where we are always welcomed by their friendly bartenders, Denise along with Maraya (which I'm likely spelling her name wrong) are two that we like so much and have seen there on a regular basis so we remember their names. We are very excited that they have a spicy salsa which you may have to request it cause it's spicy and not for everyone! This is no joke! I had the Guahilo Glazed Shrimp for dinner the other night that were large in size, hot, tasty and cooked perfectly over a bed of rice and it was perfect in portion and this is the second time I've ordered it and it was consistently delicious. My boyfriend had the spiced salmon tacos and he finished it without sharing so must have been delicious. I also tried the brisket tacos on a previous outing and they were really good. They were def not lacking in the amount of brisket either. I would order them again but still love their chicken enchiladas, Im just trying different things out. I would give this restaurant a try if your in the neighborhood. They have an amazing patio along with a very friendly staff. The foods been on point lately too! I am not sure if they take reservations or not so if your wanting to try it or especially grab a seat at the bar like we love to do (have yet to be seated at a table) you should try going earlier or later like 8:30 but no promises your going to find a spot or not. The shrimp cocktail was excellent. I was very impressed, b/c I love a good Mexican shrimp cocktail and this one was over the top good! The combo fajita nachos were just okay! The service was not that great. Never got a refill on my water, had to wait roughly 7 minutes after nachos arrived to get jalapeños that was left off the dish. Waiter seemed to be wanting to over serve two other tables he had besides ours. Ambiance was nice. There is nice outside dining, music level was good. The second time we brought our dog and they sat us on the patio and were just as attentive a when we were sat inside the previous time. My personal three markers for how much I like a Mexican restaurant are the chips, margaritas, and steak fajitas. The chips were fine, but not the kind I prefer that are thinner and crispier. The house margarita on the rocks was very weak and flavorless but the frozen one was strong, which I prefer. The steak fajitas were EXCELLENT. The waiter even asked how I liked the meat cooked, which most places never ask. We also started with El Trio for dipping the chips. All three dips were pretty standard. Nothing special at all about them and not worth $15 in my opinion. The queso tasted like the velveeta one anyone can make at home. The restaurant was super busy, and I know they have to work with the space they have the best way they can. But we were crammed in tight! The tables to the left and right of us kept bumping our table. I accidentally bumped the waiter a couple times. Speaking of the waiter, the service was excellent. Like I said, it was super busy but he was attentive and quick with everything! I probably won't be back because it's not by where I live. As I said, there are plenty of other restaurants in Dallas like this. The food and pricing reminded me almost exactly of Mi Cocina. At least there though the spaces are usually bigger and more comfortable. read more

Fried, but not with traditional egg batter, ground beef was on the plate, not in the pepper (filled with cheese, which I did not want... hence the ground beef order), and had no gravy! So, I'd call it a deep fried pepper at best, not a chili rellenos... my son had the carne asada... he said it tasted like it was cooked in the oven. Not terrible, but not carne asada. $12 frozen house margaritas? That alone is a deal killer for me, add in sub par food and pretty much not going back. Table of 13 was $800 With tip, and 5 off those were kids or in-laws not drinking and ordering very little... service was fabulous! I think his name was Jorge, so thanks for that!
