Tonight was my first visit at Mi Dia and overall I was a little underwhelmed. The salsa and queso was my favorite part of the meal. I got the carne asada medium rare (server recommended) and the steak was a bit chewy. Served on the side, rice and beans which were delicious. For dessert, the mini churros cured my sweet tooth but I wasn't a fan of the negro modelo ice cream it came with. I learned after you can substitute it for in house made vanilla ice cream instead. Nothing special but they are not overpriced. You may be spending too much for duck tacos though. Have been here 3 times and have never had slow service. Can't speak for everyone I am sure. Oh my god I had the greatest meal in a Long Time. I had the Hatch tocos on blue corn tortillas, the guacamole was Huge enough for a family of four. When it comes to Mexican cuisine, I tend to gravitate towards inexpensive places where the food is just as delicious without costing as much as it would to get a more high-end meal. Every once in a while though it's fun to treat yo self which is how we ended up at Mi Dia. Seeing as it was the night before we were headed out of town for a wedding, our fridge was completely empty so we made plans to meet up with a friend here for dinner who had gone before and had a great experience. I tried to make us reservations when I noticed they were on OpenTable, but it wouldn't allow me to for some reason. There wasn't much of a wait once we arrived so it worked out anyway, but if you would feel better having them then I suggest calling and doing so with the hostess to be safe. The inside is really nice as was their patio. Plenty of people were opting to sit outside, but we are enormous fans of air conditioning so we waited for an indoor booth to become available. Our server was bright and bubbly, taking her time to walk us through the menu. My husband ordered a beer while I tried their Mexican Candy margarita. It's a combination of either a frozen or rocks house margarita with Chamoy, Tajin Chili, mango puree, and a Tajin salted rim. I expected it to be sweeter with more mango flavor, but instead was tart and spicy. I don't think I would order that particular cocktail again. The chips and salsa however were great. I love the way they present the two salsas in almost a ying and yang type fashion which was very pretty. I asked for a side of warm tortillas too that they make in house and are so good. She also brought me butter for them that was studded with Tajin Chili salt. Amazing! I would have been content having that alone as my meal. For my entrée I got the Mi Dia salad with red chile glazed chicken. It was really yummy and had jicama, roasted corn, tomatoes, pickled red onions, queso fresco, avocado, and candied pepitas (pumpkin seeds) which I left off. I was hoping the chicken would be spicy but the glaze was sweet, similar to a teriyaki. We were in the mood for dessert afterwards, so we decided to share the churros. 4 come to an order and the insides are filled with a rich dulce de leche type sauce. They also come with a scoop of Negra Modelo milk chocolate ice cream. Keeping with the theme of the night apparently, this dish was more salty than sweet. Definitely something I would order again though. If the prices were lower I feel we would easily become regulars. I enjoyed the fresh ingredients and their liberal use of spice. Wait wasn't too bad. Workers were friendly. Waited at the bar and enjoyed a drink and snacked on some complimentary chips and salsa. The margaritas were good and strong. The salsa was just the right amount of spicy. Decided to order the table-side guac and share an entree since we stuffed our face with the chips and salsa. Entree ordered was the duck two way. The guac was fresh made to order at our table. Made it chunky just the way I liked it! And they add crispy bacon in their guac! AMAZING!!! The entree was meh. The duck breast was pretty tender and juicy but the shredded duck was kind of dry. Wasn't impressed with it. I'll be back for the guac and salsa and try another dish. Totally worth a try! This could be my new favourite Mexican/Southwestern restaurant. It beats Christina's by far on every aspect: food, service, ambiance. Not sure if we just hit it on the right night or if this is how they always handle a busy weekend and packed house. We did not have reservations, but we provided our name and headed to the bar to wait. The bartenders were busy, but the guys behind it really know how to shake a cocktail. Best martini in the Grapevine/Southlake area. Spouse ordered an Old Fashioned and said it was perfect. (High praise since my spouse has perfected that cocktail at home and has travelled extensively tasting them across country.) Ordered wine with dinner; hard to screw that's up but it has been done. The menu provided a lot of options and since it's freshly prepared it was easy to order to suit. (#Gluten Free did not cause them to look at me like I had reindeer antlers growing out of my head, and they got it right because I survived the night unscathed.) The food was excellent. Everything was cooked and served as ordered, and everything was the right temperature. We were all served our dinners at the same time; I don't know why some restaurants can't pull this off. Our server terrific as well. Knew the menu and knew how to help us navigate the Gluten-free thing. Just the right amount of checking on us. Enjoyed lunch here last weekend. The table side guacamole was fantastic! I really liked the roasted red peppers they add to it. My entree was veggie tacos and they were pretty good as well! The patio is open and well designed. There is plenty of room to host a large event or have an intimate gathering. Our server was efficient and everything was brought out in a timely fashion. I hate to be writing this review but they deserve it. Saturday 8/6 at 9 pm we went here for a birthday dinner. A table behind us had a 2/3year old child screaming at the top of its lungs for 20+ min. After which we politely asked them to take the child outside because it was hard to hear. The family got extremely upset and so we left it alone and enjoyed our guacamole (which was delicious) about 30 min later when these people went to leave they started screaming & running at us like they were going to hit us. Yelling we were ungoldly people and uneducated in which the manager sat there & allowed them to do so. Not only did he allow that while we sat there saying nothing but then he kicked us out??? Saying we were wrong for asking the family to take the child outside after 20 min of screaming not crying. We had to pay our tab & the other table got comped... just ridiculous. We have been here before & enjoyed the food but after this will NEVER be coming here again. But hey if u want really delicious food & GOOD service go next door to Winewood grill. read more

Mi Dia is one of my co-workers favorite restaurants and close to our office. We often go for lunch to celebrate birthdays. I have been several time and o my once had bad service. The food is always delicious. It's a high quality Mexican restaurant. The guacamole is seriously one of the best I have ever tasted. While they make it in front of you and out the regular things in it including onions, tomatoes, jalapeños and bacon, there has to be some secret ingredient they include because everyone that has tried it loves it. While queso is good, the guac is to die for or to bath in...lol. I have tried several delicious items here including their quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, etc but the last two times I have been there I got the Mi Dia salad and it's not just any salad. I also get it with the red chili chicken, so good!! If you want something a bit lighter but with all the flavor, definitely go for this salad. When I asked the waitress, who was as personable as Janet Reno why I couldn't order multiple meats in my street taco, her response was "the servings are pre proportioned" I thought it was from scratch. Our section was almost half empty... Still no drinks 15 minutes later. Needed it to wash down the nasty chips and salsa... I live in Texas, apparently having chips made by Sysco means they were made from scratch... In NEW YORK CITY?!?!? (Pace commercials-mid 90's) Here comes the food, carne asada looked like a semi flattened burnt turd, tasted about the same marinated for days. Waitress looked at me like I had Ebola when I asked for some tortillas and maybe some chimmichuri. Our chef can't make the most common steak garnish in central/South America... I can, in 2 minutes, from scratch. Can also make tortillas that you can chew and swallow without water in your mouth. The flan wasn't made within 24 hours from when I consumed it. This is My new favorite restaurant. This is the opposite of Don Pablo's or Tia's (both of which would be put out business by this place IF they were still opened). You have your choice of four Great restaurants in this same parking lot. You seriously can't go wrong with any of them, but to be fair/honest, Bob's Steakhouse is on a whole different level (and price point). I have been meaning to try Mi Dia for some time now, because it just LOOKS COOL. Well Folks, the looks are matched by great food and great service. Great service: Mike was an awesome server with wonderful explanations of their menu and philosophy. The manager, Juanita, stopped by to see how our dinner was and we just couldn't stop talking about how good it is. She then comp'd our dessert (see review below). The tequila menu alone makes me want to come back and try more drinks (is there a Flying Saucer concept for this? there should be!) I didn't want to just go with a standard margarita, but I don't think would be a bad choice. They make everything from scratch - no mixes or premade. Our server asked what kind of drink I like (sweet / sour / heavy liquor flavor/ dry) and he suggested a specific margarita. He was dead on. I did not like the second suggestion as much (it was too much dark tequila). The chips are thick, heavy corn chips. They serve two salsa in the same bow - kind of like two soups in one bowl. One of the salsas is a typical rojo/red with a little bit of kick and the other side is a verde/green. Refills were easy to come by. Out of everything on the menu, I wanted tacos - they have several kinds to choice from (beef, sea bass, shrimp, duck, pulled pork). There are four on a plate, and I would have liked to try several of them, but alas they do not allow you to mix and match. I went with the duck tacos at the server's suggestion, and was not disappointed. Now I was to try the sea bass and pork ones. My mother got the salmon, which was very unique and nicely done. For dessert, we loosened our belts and ordered the sopapilas. I mean, how can you go wrong with fried bread coated in sugar N cinnamon, drizzled with honey? Oh wait! Did you ask about their Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream on the side?!? I am NOT a big dessert person and this dish alone makes me want to come back. The final comment I will make is that the patio looks killer. If you want to take a special someone out, this would be my first choice in the area. I also loved how spicy their salsa was, I ate so much of it that when my entree came out, I was full... I ordered the street tacos, and they tasted like a street taco that was 10 times fancier and nicer than the 1 dollars ones you get at a gas station. Which is why they are 10 times more expensive too. Mom got the duck entree and I honestly thought that was ok... the portions were really small, and after eating she wished she ordered something else. One of our entrees came with this side of corn and that was amazing, I wish i knew the name of it, but it was very good. This is a great spot for outside dining. Very posh Mexican restaurant cuisine. The appetizers and main entrees are very well presented and are served with pride. I do have to say that there seems to be some confusion about their 'happy hour' from hostess to wait staff. When you call the restaurant, you will be told their happy hour is from 3pm-6pm. However, once you get there, you will get conflicting information from their staff. Even several patrons showing up ask about their happy hour specials and there doesn't seem to be a consensus from the wait staff. Some of the wait staff say there is not a happy hour since the pandemic, while others say that the only happy hour is a $2 off their margarita of the month, so it's not worth offering it. (That's what the waiter said, not my words.) I'm like what? lol. Anyways, it would have been better if there were consistency in what the patrons are told and even if their happy hour specials are not as strong as other restaurants in the area, as a patron, I would have appreciated being told 1) what their happy hour specials are and 2) then being offered at least their house frozen margaritas. It's just knowing how to present their menu between the hours of 3pm-6pm, which they desperately need to work on. read more

I absolutely LOVE Mi Dia! I mean you just can't go wrong here. Let's see the restaurant itself is beautiful, the service is always great and their Mexican food (from scratch) is delicious! Did I mention they have an amazing patio?? I don't think there is anything better than sipping on a frozen sangria margarita outside on a warm sunny day! As for their food I would stay away from the chicken tacos as they lacked flavor. The chicken on the taco was ground (yuck) and very dry. I think if they swapped out the ground chicken for grilled chicken these tacos may stand a chance! When I come back I would either order their steak tacos or the pork belly tacos (my mom and sister chose wisely!). I think the steak tacos were incredibly juicy and were cooked to perfection. As for the pork belly tacos they had an excellent flavor! I tried getting my mom to trade me a pork belly taco for one of my chicken tacos but she refused! I do come here from time to time. It's located across the street from where I work. It does well on all points. It has modern decor, excellent service, sleek bar, sexy patio, happy hour specials, and stong margaritas. The food is almost like a fusion of Mexican cuisine, interior Mexican, coastal Mexican, New Mexican, and Tex-Mex. My fav is the Duck Carnitas tacos. This is essentially a great place for all types. So much, in fact, that I recently had a mass hipster sighting, which is incredibly rare for this part of Grapevine. There was a table set for 14, on a weekday, around noon. Hipsters of both genders but a suspiciously young age arrived one by one. My mind was whirling. What the...? Are they coming from school? Or are they employed? Do they all work together? Are they in a band, like the Polyphonic Spree? Is it a birthday...lunch? Not a birthday dinner? Why Grapevine? Kitchen needs to wake up! I arrived at Mi Dia with very high expectations. It was very busy and waited nearly 2 hours for our table. I spent a fair amount of time at the bar since the wait was so long. The drinks are well crafted and the bartenders are friendly. Upon arriving at the table the waiter arrived within just a few minutes to help us refresh our drinks. Soon after, chips and salsa is on the table and we are crunching away reading the menu. We ordered the Queso Fundido and per the waiters recommendation Tacos De Langosta (lobster tacos) immediately. We were starving! The queso was good but, how can you mess up melted cheese? The lobster tacos bombed. They were cold and even worse very fishy tasting. We sent them back. The waiter handled it professionally. After the lobster taco debacle we decided to play it safe and just order combo fajitas. I was pretty hungry so, I did not really want to take any more chances. The plate arrived sizzling and they tasted just fine. Good conversation and few more rounds of drinks ensued. We decided to get a dessert and told the waiter to just bring us his favorite. It was pretty but, tasted as if it had been in the freezer for weeks. We did not even bother to send it back. At this point we were tired and it was time to go. Here is my take, this place has amazing potential. The front of house is sorted. Servers are knowledgeable and professional, bartenders make great drinks, the patio is fantastic, the restaurant upscale and beautifully done. A tad on the pricey side but tonight happened to be National Tequila Day - Margarita specials - lucky me!! My belly was delighted with dos strawberry infused kiwi margaritas on the rocks. Add to that, table side guacamole = Wednesday eve belly bliss. If in the mood for seafood, can't go wrong with the grilled sea bass tacos.. includes pickled cabbage, avocado and a flavorful chile morita remoulade - they're seriously one of a kind yummy! LUNCH: Now I can add lunch to the mix - great lunch menu, reasonable prices and generous portions. And I'd be remiss if I didn't say - try the Chicken Tortilla Soup. One could say how could you love Mexican food that runs an average of $20 a person IN TEXAS and I would know you have never eaten at Mi Dia. The decor is so cool and I love that it is located in an area with other restaurants of a similar caliber. It has outdoor seating, a large bar area and offers valet parking. My friend does all things grand so I should have known this place was pretty special once we pulled up. It was packed and we were told there was an hour and fifteen minute wait for first available. I voted to stay because I was memorized by lighting and the aromas. It in no way smelled like your traditional Mexican. The food angel doused us with favor because we were seated within five minutes of entering the restaurant despite the time quoted. On to the food. We both had a cup of the tortilla soup. it far different from any tortilla soup I have ever tried because it was lighter but contained the same ingredients most of the others have. Totally a 5 star item all day every day. For entrees, my friend ordered the featured item which were the seafood enchiladas. It was filled with shrimp, scallops, salmon and one more item. I didn't eat any but it looked tasty and my friend seemed to like it enough to lick the plate. I ordered the Sante Fe - Taquenias. This entree was a skirt steak prepared with red and green chiles, topped with enchiladas and served with rice and beans and a side of guacamole. I loved it!! Get it medium rare because if you don't it will be too tough. It's a skirt steak after all. Last but not least, the chips and salsa are good enough to buy for a nice movie night at home. Each person gets his or her own red and green salsa. No fighting with others at the table to dip and dripping sauce all over the table. This is my fourth trip here and can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet. The bottom line is they hit all the right marks with food and service. Prices are at the top end of acceptable for what you get. For example some of the drinks although good at $13-14 is a little steep. The food is all good but again towards the top of the range in price. That being said only one of my trips had a service blip with a bar tender and minor waiter issue. All in all I recommend you give it a shot if you want something a little more creative and upscale. read more

My latest visit was a very early dinner (around 5:30P) on a Wednesday evening. Our party of 5 was seated quickly in one of the semi-circular booths; it was ample, even considering that some of US are ample. :) Although I didn't sample from the bar this evening, the frozen margaritas served to my fellow diners drew good reviews for flavor and strength. Chips and salsa were kept full, with the former being very fresh, crisp and golden brown, and the latter being fairly spicy but not overpowering, elegant in its simplicity. For the main event, I chose a roasted pork stuffed chile rellano. Served "naked" (i.e. no batter), it was nicely plated with a drizzle, black beans and rice. Cutting into it, the pepper had a good "give" to it, yet it still had some body to it. The pork was very juicy and flavorful, and the two together, with the creamy drizzle, made me forget all about the lack of batter. It was a delicious dish. This place is definitely the destination for fine Mexican and Tex-Mex dining in Grapevine, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, there are cheaper places and some that focus on other items, but for a great cross section of dishes, served delicious in an upscale yet relaxed atmosphere, this is the place. read more

I had never heard of this place before my boyfriend sent me a photo of the huge bowl of table side guacamole that he and his work buddy were enjoying. MAN that looked good. A few weeks go by, and I forget all about that tasty guac I saw. Then, yesterday, boyfriend suggests we go there. OKAY! I did not expect the decor to be what it was: it is a nice place! Trendy architecture, huge glass windows to the (very nice) patio, neat spiral bar situation,and cozy booths. Our waiter was awesome. He asked if we'd ever dined at Mi Dia before, and when I said I hadn't, he explained the whole menu: dishes from the southern areas of Mexico, cuisine that gets its influence from the New Mexico area, and street tacos influenced by the busy life of Mexico City. Of course, there's also an area for Tex-Mex type dishes as well, but with the awesome stuff going on with the other side of the menu, I was going to try to get food not Tex-Mexy. We started with some of that delicious table side guac and man I had dreams about that stuff last night. So, so tasty! The red/green salsas were also very good. The chips were suitable guac and salsa delivery devices, but I wasn't wowed by them. I do want to get some of that really good looking quest next time. I wound up getting the Tradicional street tacos, minus jalapeños, because my mouth is wimpy. I was really eyeing a dish from the New Mexico section, but hatch chiles are sometimes too hot for me. Our waiters was, again, awesome at describing the heat of the recent batches of Hatches: probably a 7/10. Which meant I should probably err on the side of 'no'. I LOVED the tacos I got. I was apprehensive about the meal coming with 4 tacos, but they're like mini tacos. Mini delicious tacos. The poblano rice and black beans were amazing! I have about half of my meal in the fridge to eat later. And I'm really looking forward to it! I got some flan for dessert because I'm addicted to flan. And this flan was GREAT! It was thick and smooth and fresh. Kate likey. Boyfriend got a guisada (I might be spelling that wrong), a stew. He really enjoyed it. He offered me a bite, and there was a slow burn spice to it, but really good flavor! He basically licked the bowl when he was done. He decided to get Mexican S'mores as a dessert, even though he's not a big chocolate fan. He asked our waiter if he could substitute vanilla ice cream for the Mexican chocolate. Waiter said that should be okay, but sometimes the chef doesn't like substitutions because of presentation. Thankfully, it was fine, and looked amazing. The peanut butter fudge is chocolate peanut butter fudge, which the menu doesn't make totally clear, and as a non-chocolate person, boyfriend was a little bummed. He still basically licked the plate though. Overall, this place is delicious. It's on the spendy side and all the way out in Grapevine, so we won't be going there every day, but it was so good, we'll definitely make the trek occasionally. I totally recommend this place! So, we would love to say how much we liked this place, really beautiful esthetics and fairly good service- except for forgetting a couple of items ordered including our after dinner coffee ordered with desert. The biggest issue was food temperature. The TASTE of the food was delicious. We had what we were told were two top entrees.. a ribeye dish and a seafood enchilada dish .. however, both dishes were LESS than room temperature. We thought maybe since we hadn't been there before this was the way they were served, but found out , no, not the case. I can imagine if the food was nice and hot or even warm, it would be MUCH better as we could tell the flavors were great. read more
