By chance, a friend passed by the Rooster Food Truck Yard on Main St. and recommended this spot for a new, different lunch. It was hoppin as much as downtown Lubbock normally is during weekday lunches, and had 2 food trucks and 2 snack/dessert trucks. We tried Cheese Chicks, and I'm so glad we did! The menu had a good variety, all based on grilled cheese of course, and made for a really good lunch. Both my friend and I ordered the BLT on sourdough (normally on Italian White Bread) with the homemade sweet potato chips. The BT (didn't have lettuce ) had a REALLY good flavor and wasn't like any standard grilled cheese. The "t" was a tomato jelly, and dang - it was really delicious. The sweet potato chips was a homemade, hand-cut, freshly fried batch of yummy. They were slightly underdone to be called chips, which made them perfect in my opinion. I am excited to wander from my downtown office and come try more things on their menu!

So I asked for my money back. They gave me $10 back because they didn't have enough to give me my $13 back...What a joke! They waisted an hour of my Saturday and took a $3 tip from me. Needless to say...I will avoid this business from now on.

The menu was very easy to read, and provided enough variety in order to find exactly what you were looking for without needing to compromise on your appetite. The waitress was very friendly and provided her opinion on local favorites without demeaning other options, always a deal breaker for me when places do that, so she gets special love for her taking care of us that night. Once our meals arrived, it was time to dig in. The food was hot, prepared exactly as expected, and in typical Texas fashion there was more than we could expect to eat in a single sitting. At Chopped and Sliced BBQ, you will never leave hungry. Honorable mention to the fried Okra. I became the star of the night as almost everyone at the table couldn't get enough of it. Also, not sure if it was a regular or one-off, but the night we were dining in there was a man playing traditional Americana folk songs on guitar just inside by the entrance. He provided a nice relaxing atmosphere for the night without being too out or overbearing for my ears. I found myself tipping him on more than one occasion for his contributions to the evening.

As I always do I ordered the brisket burnt ends and the original sides of tater salad and coleslaw (as a honest comparison of the TX Top 50). 1lb of brisket that was the superstar of the tray as it should be. Really good flavor and an even smoke that never was offensive "mesquite bite, hickory bitterness" due to really seasoned oak wood presumably post oak. Sides were fine/traditional ACV style slaw to cut the rich brisket, maybe an egg yoke, dill tater salad that was right on the money. Over all a really good bbq representation of Texas smoked beef, not sure I'd rank 10th in the top 50 but glad to taste what others voted on anyway. I will say the condiments "raw jalapeños" and their layout was a really easy and appreciated change from other bbq joints.

Tex-Mex is a perfect cuisine to me. I am not always craving it, but when I am, nothing hits harder…read more Through my years in college, I discovered Taqueria Jalisco to be the gospel and genuinely the best Tex-Mex in Lubbock by a long shot. My first time I went, my group of guys and I were put in a room with all the other white people. Not to say they were profiling, but looking at the rest of the restaurant's population on a busy Sunday, they had us in the gringo room. The food hit. I get putting a bunch of three-taco-plate-and-queso people in one room. I have not been back in quite a while, but I remember their menu being the most behemoth-looking thing ever. Every item had a picture taken on a Coolpix camera, and the text was almost impossible to read on the menu's busy background. That is proof that the food was going to hit. After returning, the menu has been minimized to be more readable, only slightly keeping that same over-the-top flair. The prices have gone up slightly, but where have they not? On a Thursday night, we were seated immediately around 7:30 and had a pretty attentive waitress. Like every good Tex-Mex joint in Texas, their chips and salsa roam freely through the restaurant, and the salsa has a good kick that is easy to manage while still having the heat everyone wants. They also have a creamy green sauce and other sauces they bring out by request. I ordered a combination plate with a crispy beef taco, a beef burrito, and a chicken enchilada with a side of Mexican rice. I added a side of refried beans because no Tex-Mex meal is complete without a big serving of refried beans to mix with the rice and crush with tortilla chips. The crispy taco was unreal. The shell feels like it was double-fried. It has such an incredible hardness to it. It feels premium. The beef burrito and enchilada were great as well, but I was blown away by the taco to an extreme. They have a pretty broad selection of Mexican beers, including Tecate, Bohemia, Dos Equis Amber, Modelo Negra, and Victoria next to your Coronas, Sol, and Dos Equis. Their margaritas are pretty great, if my memory serves me right, as well. I love this place, and I was glad to give it a revisit while being back in Lubbock for a bit. It is just classic and timeless. I just wish their menu was as much of an eyesore as it used to be because that sucker brought me so much joy. RIYL: Gaining five pounds in an hour. A good meal.
