Quite authentic when it comes to Mexican food. Service was friendly and the tableside salsa made to your liking was the star of the meal. It was fresh and very delicious. The Chicken fajitas were okay and have eaten better. Maybe we just chose the wrong dish. I have a great affection for Guadalajara original grill. Many years ago, I went to the location on Prince, and since then numerous locations have opened up this location in the former Macayos restaurant is a good spot between many of my family in the NW side of town to meet my husband and I for dinner. For those of us in Tucson we know there are numerous restaurants that offer regional dishes that are unique and Guadalajara original grill is no exception. Their Chiles en Nogada and Chilean sea bass are favorites of mine. As simple as this may be, I love their mini chimichangas. often times I might just come in and order one of the house margaritas and a side of beef mini chimneys from their appetizer menu and I am happy as a clam. Recently, my husband and I were able to celebrate a very dear friends 60th wedding anniversary and they were able to accommodate a party of 20. Not only was the food well received by all of our friends, but taking photographs of the beloved couple with the vibrant background murals, the tableside salsa and guacamole, the tortilla making station, all was a positive and exciting experience. To celebrate at Guadalajara Grill was just a a wonderful element of our celebration. I think people visiting from outside Arizona will really appreciate the extensive menu: combo plates with an enchilada, taco beans and rice or fajitas or any number of typical Mexican dishes. Guadalajara original Grill is consistent. The staff provide diligent service and made adjustments and corrections quickly. I highly recommend visiting this location. My cousin who lives here recommended this place so we had to try it. It was also less than a mile from our hotel. The parking lot was so packed. We lucked out and got a spot when someone pulled out. There was about a 20 minute wait and the lovely hostesses gave us a buzzer. We found a bench close by and right before 6 is when the waiting area got really packed. Our buzzer rang and we were seated in a fairly big booth for just us 2. We looked at our menu for a good 5 minutes before a waitress came to our table. I was hoping she came right away so we can get $2 off our margaritas but she came after 6 pm! I ordered the Sea Bass and my husband got the Carne Asada Chimichanga. We also ordered a jalapeño margarita and a Skinny Margarita. As we waited for our food, a lady dressed in her Mexican cultural outfit came to our table with a cart. She proceeded to make us freshly made salsa to our liking! We wanted spicy and no cilantro. The "show" was so cool but the salsa was by far the best we ever had. Jay's Chimi was also the best he ever had. Mine was good! This place was delicious and if we would have gotten our order in before 6 pm! It would be a 5 star perfect dinner!!! When we walked in at 3:15 on a Sunday there were many employees but our service was so bad that we almost walked out before our food was delivered. Once we ordered and got our drinks, we were never approached again. The food took forever to be served. My shrimp fajitas were good but my husband's taco salad was so bland that he didn't finish it. The generic wine for $11 a glass could have been Kendall Jackson or a decent wine. read more

Hmm stopped by on a Thursday evening with a group of 3. Sat down and the ambiance of the place is lively. They even had a person playing live music near the entrance. My favorite thing here period was the salsa. They have a cart full of everything needed to make salsa and guac and they make the salsa fresh in front of you when you sit down. Something unique in the salsa were the roasted peppers not sure what kind but it gave the salsa an acidity that wow was amazing. Perfectly salted too. I did order the guac which we paid extra to have that made table side as well; however, the guacamole to my taste was nothing special. Moving onto the entrees we ordered a steak Molcajete, Mexican Paella, and then a 3 variety enchilada plate. Moljacete was our favorite entree by a good bit too - steak was tender, hot, vegetables tasty. Paella was really good and had plenty of seafood in it, but just TOO salty. The enchiladas were verde sauce with beef, white cheese with chicken, and red sauce with like saucy pork. Favorite was red sauce followed by verde, last white. Guadalajara grill used to be my go to favorite in the northwest area. They haven't been for a very long time as a new restaurant of better quality and taste opened close by. That's not to say I would not go back to Guadalajara as they do have amazing table side salsa but after today's experience I think it may be my last. We arrived after the lunch rush mid week. The hostess looked at us like she could care less that we were there. After a couple of minutes we were taken to a table in a room with one other table occupied. We sat playing on our phones for a good 10 minutes before the MANAGER saw us and asked if we had been helped yet. He immediately took our drink order and returned and informed us that the salsa maker would be over. About 5 minutes later the salsa lady arrived And as usual made the most delicious medium salsa. And that is where it ends. My son and I ordered the cheese crisp for starters, a crisp fried tortilla, with a thin layer of cheese and so much pico de gallo spread all over it that it was stone cold when arrived and the liquid from the pico made the cheese turn white. Not good. We both had the chili Colorado chimichanga with the works. When they arrived 20 minutes later we both looked at the red dot on the top of the chimi and asked each other where the red sauce was. Meat was tender and large chunks but the flavor was completely absent, red chili should at minimum taste like red chilis. This lacked any chili powder, salt, pepper or any Kind of seasoning. I should have started with the beans and rice as I have always said, you can tell a quality meal by whether or not a restaurant cares about their beans and rice. And these beans and rice were equally just as bad, no seasoning at all. We ate about a third of our meal, paid the bill, walked out and to be honest it may be a long time coming before we go back IF we go back. With another QUALITY Mexican restaurant closer to the house ( and it's NOT Victoria's) and for a lot less money than what Guadalajara is charging this may have been the end. A really great Mexican atmosphere for us gringos. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They come to your table and make the salsa for you and ask you what heat level. The salsa is absolutely delicious. I can't remember the name of the meal that we had, but it was fantastic a mix of red and green with a masa in between and some refried beans. Wanted to go here since last year but the drive is long from where i am. Finally made it up that way today and was not let down! The decor takes me right back to some of my favorite Mexican restaurants in my old state, Place is SUPER clean. Really nice staff and clean restrooms too! Since it was our first time, I got a combo plate of the Shredded Beef Taco and the Pork Tamale. The old lady got her usual of Chicken Fajitas. Not realizing they have gone snowbird as a heat level, after receiving the chips and salsa, i called the waiter over and asked for actual salsa. Something with heat. I wasn't let down too bad, basically, they add pickled jalapeno seeds to the regular salsa. This was NOT the tableside salsa, btw...We'll get that next time. Chips were nice. The food arrived, the plate of fajitas piled high with ingredients, definitely big enough for 2 people. My taco and tamale were well made. Taste of the taco and beans were spot on for what we expected, but the Tamale was INSANE great! Perfect amount of masa to meat, the masa light and fluffy-ish. The rice was really nice and flavorful. The Fajitas came with actual FRESH tortillas. Im guessing there's an Abuela in back slaving over a tortilla press or machine... We will come again for sure, everything fresh and full of flavor and life. And now, understanding that I can asked them not to snowbird the food, Im prepared to be more adventurous in the future visits to one of the locations. First the pros: The service was spot on, we sat outside and the ambiance was great. Chips and salsas were plentiful. Cons: The made at your table salsa was not available because we were there at 3:00PM and the salsa ladies don't come in until 4:00PM except on weekends when they are there all day. My husband and I each ordered the fajitas, his chicken and mine chicken and carnitas. Neither meal came sizzling as fajitas do, the meat was plentiful; however, it was very dry. I told the server about this and he apologized and said he would talk to the kitchen. I mentioned two other Mexican restaurants we frequent and explained the difference in the same product. I indicated I would take it home and try to make something with all the leftovers. This is the second time at this restaurant and I have been disappointed each time. Nicely put together with lime and lots of salt,,,, salsa is tangy and has tons of flavor. Fajitas with shrimp or chicken or vegetables or steak are our go-tos. The veggies are cooked perfectly and the portobello is firm and tasty. Chicken is good and has lots of spice. Beef is generous portioned and typical fare. Shrimp are on the smaller side but ok. Funny, updating my review 5 years later and ordered the Chile Nogada again! Dinner for 5 last night and everyone had a great time! The table side salsa and guacamole are a must-have, she'll make it to order. Service was much better this time - our waiter was there when we needed him. Three of us got a molcajete, they really are good, especially if you're one of those people (like me) that doesn't like cold food. Keeps your dinner hot for a long time! I actually had the chile nogada which is one of my favorite Mexican dishes. Grilled fish tacos were so soggy I couldn't even pick them up and tasted extremely fishy. The last time I had fish tacos here they were excellent. It was a miss this time.
