Just had a horrible experience on Christmas Eve. I was meeting a friend for breakfast and placed the order for both of us. I have been coming to the restaurant for years and my friend's family would come for breakfast every Sunday after church. My friend walked in the back room to inform me we have to leave because the owner said he is not welcome. When asked why, the owner said it was guilt by association since his friend and the owner had some sort of falling out. I've been coming to this restaurant my entire life. Salsa alone can make or break a Mexican restaurant. This place serves fresh house made salsa with a combination of tomatillos and chiles with just a touch of cilantro and scallion that is tangy and delicious. I also recommend their picked jalapeños. The food is great, and I would assign it five stars if the service was just a tiny bit better. My favorite dish here is the huevos rancheros, I recommend ordering it with extra sauce. It is served without a corn tortilla beneath it and topped with a rich tomato sauce with stewed bell pepper and jalapeños. I also like the machaca y huevos. The tortillas are made in house and are thick and dense, very good for dipping in the ranchero sauce. Try it. The wait time can often be long. I recommend getting here early, particularly on a weekend. Seating fills up fast. If you can, sit on the left side, which is Zocemo's section. He is the star waiter of this restaurant, and actually in the top three waiters I've ever had. He is attentive to detail, will remember if you order something regularly, and the specifics on your ordering. He is charming and the top server in this business. He should be recognized for this achievement. Sadly, the other servers pale in comparison, often messing up orders, forgetting items entirely, and taking too many breaks when the kitchen has the food ready. I ordered Camarones a la diabla from Mi Ranchito & I was given this which is def not made right. They literally used the salsa from their chips & salsa, green bellpeppers & onions. I've eaten this dish all my life in Mex & Ca. From what I am aware of this dish has a tomato/ketchup base with spice. This was not it. I spoke up to an elder man in white shirt with logo while paying tab. Told him I left plate full of food & brushed me off with "that's your opinion it's been made like that here since 1950 blah blah blah ". No apology or we will look into recipe, nothing! I'm rarely in this side of town, but when I am, we come here. The first time I been here, it was pleasant. I ordered the machaca upon recommendation from my friend and it was alright. After paying, one of my friend took a sip of her water bottle from her purse, the owner snapped at her for having outside drinks. That was a crappy first. Like chill... it's just water and if we were tended to for water refill, she would've been fully hydrated and wouldn't felt the need to reach for her water bottle. I went to eat here this morning with my mother, brother, sister in law, and very young nephew. When we walked in it was awkward, but thought nothing of it. We were told where to sit so we sat there. We weren't given menus until someone came to take our drink order 15 minutes after being seated. We remained calm and polite and placed our order after a few minutes. After getting our drinks and then our food. Nobody came to check on us or see if we needed refills the entire time we were eating. We had to ask for silverware when our food came. Every other table was getting great service and we were overlooked through our entire dining experience until it was time for me to pay. I won't be back there again. The last time I was there the restaurant has a sewage problem and it is extremely difficult to enjoy your meal with the smell of raw sewage. Mi Ranchito had had this odor inside for nearly a year. I was hoping that is was taken care of when I revisited no such thing. Why hasn't been there any mention other than mine Maybe regulars are used to it and accept the smell. Mexican food staple in Stockton. Been here for years. They make fresh flour tortillas but have been known to run out and serve ones that aren't. Good quality and pretty consistent in their food. My go to order here is the machaca with sides of bacon and chili verde. Ask for a little bowl of chili rojo for an extra kick. Gets me full every time. Good friendly service and it gets pretty packed on morning weekends. Tip: waitress drops off your check and you take it up and pay up front at the cashier. Not in the best part of town but when did that stop you from eating good food? Most of the best Mexican food restaurants in town are South of Harding Way anyways. Give Mi Ranchito a shot. read more

This is not a regular stop of mine and I'm not sure why as I've really enjoyed whatever I've tried and I live within walking distance. Chicken tacos, steak fajitas and chorizo and eggs are all good. I like that you have a choice of refried or boiled beans which I especially love as they remind me of the beans my grandmother would make. The service can be hit or miss but it's usually good. Recently moved in the area and last Sunday my son and I wanted a burrito and with no car this was the closest to use so I sent my brother to get a super burrito...we were so looking forward to it as this was our first ordering from here and it was absolutely horrible. 1st off we only like meat in our burritos and it didn't even feel like we had 2 tacos in the box,so we open and proceed to split it hoping ot would taste yummy,nope the meat had no flavor,it was dry and burnt. I've been going to this place for many years. This was actually my favorite spot growing up as a kid in Stockton. I moved away and stopped going there for a long while. I went about 10 years or so without it. About a year ago I tried it, and then once again about a month ago. I'm very sad to say that it has gotten bad each of these two recent visits! One problem I've known for a long while is the flies, flying around while eating. This seems to be the way it has always been inside of there but a couple of flies had never bothered me I guess so, I just put up with it because I loved this place and the food! Anyways, EACH of these two recent visits, the flies were worse and the inside smelled like a stinky bathroom inside. Something needs to be done about this because people can't enjoy a meal like that ya'll. I wasn't sure if the food was still good or not to be honest. This place has changed food quality wise since the Pandemic! I think Covid-19 killed the flavor, I had the Rancheros with Chicana for breakfast and my wife had Rancheros with Chili Colorado and it was terribly tasteless. Imagine opening a can of tomato sauce watered down with a pinch of poorly cooked asada meat, and a few slices of onion and bell pepper, the rice and beans were an afterthought I guess because they were equally bland! My mom and I typically come here time to time and usually sit on the right side and are helped by the hispanic gentleman, he's always nice and very fast of a helper. Yet this time we sat on the left side and Angie helped us out and was very rude. She didn't greet us at all, she argued with my mom about saying good morning or not it was ridiculous. MI RANCHITO CAFE is an authentic Mexican food restaurant so I heard. I had to check it out for myself. I proved it right. It's located at the foot of the El Dorado overpass. The ambiance is family oriented and it brought me back way back where anyone can sit at the counter to order and eat. Friendly waitress/host. She offered me something to drink and served me the house chips and salsa. I ordered 2 dinner plates to go. When the food arrived they were hot. I had the chicken tacos and chicken enchiladas. The prices were reasonable. I don't mind paying for authentic Mexican food. The burrito and taco plate serving was too generous. I can say that I will frequent Mi Ranchito Cafe for it's authentic food, reasonable price and did I mention it's a short drive from Southside. read more
