this place is so nostalgic for me. this was my grandmas favorite restarunt so we went here often as a kid in her memory. i prefer smooth salsa over chunky salsa so i wasn't the biggest fan, but everyone agreed it tastes similar to chilis salsa. when you come, you have to get the cheese gravy. it's addicting and such a comfort food for me. it's good to dip chips in, good to put on your food, dip tortillas into, etc. the beans are also so satisfying and taste great. i think the beans have a unique flavor that i've never tasted anywhere else. i'm not sure what makes them different, but they just are. the rice is also so flavorful. i feel like when mexican rice has a really strong flavor it's usually a tomato-forward flavor and this is not tomato forward which i prefer. again, rice is really unique compared to other mexican rices i have had. they do kind of go overboard with cheese and sauce on some dishes. it's still yummy but your food gets soggy fast. i got a pork tamale which wasn't bad, but not the best i've ever had. it had green salsa from my enchilada so i couldn't really taste the tamale on its own to decide if it was good or not. i prefer shredded meat over chunky meat in my tamales. i also got a chicken enchilada with green sauce which wasn't bad good, but really hard to make enchilada sauce wrong. the green salsa is a little bit sour but in a good way. the fajitas were really good. i wasn't expecting them to taste as good as they looked because they didn't look super appealing. the meat was super soft and had insane flavor. it also had a great smokey flavor. just perfection. the tacos are also so good. they're perfectly crunchy yet somehow still soft and just nostalgic again. satisfying. delicious. the food takes a bit to come out, but i don't mind because i prefer my food made to order instead of premade and heated up. the staff is friendly and attentive as well. read more

Omgoodness! What can I say about Tip Pepe's plate #4? Nothing .. can't speak. Not supposed to talk with mouth full. Yum yum. Ps since COVID, prices went up three times and plates got smaller with one item missing. Will need to double check the menu. Doubt it was an oversight, as we all ordered the same thing and we were all missing the item . Still great, just can't eat there as often. Will try to get a picture next time. Lol. Tio Pepe's has a serious attitude problem. The people there have a constant "hear me" attitude for no reason, and the vibe is always uncomfortable. On top of that, people in the restaurant are constantly mean-mugging others, which makes the whole place feel hostile and unwelcoming. It's not somewhere you feel comfortable waiting or eating. Customer service and basic respect are clearly lacking. read more

I don't know why some reviews are not high and cannot explain it other than their experience was limited. I have frequented this business for the better part of 40 years. Both at this location and the one they had on Lower Sacramento Road years ago. Their service has always been good and the food outstanding. Hope you give them a chance. Stars based on service & ambiance only. First off food is pretty good! If I wasn't eating here or having more than two people ordering, this food is bomb! The problem is the understaffed, old smell interior, long waiting for service for groups larger than 3...is there only one cook? My fault for giving this OLD establishment some attention. Tried to have a bday dinner for my sons 18th. Sad sad sad turn of events, two waiters, very slow on refills, ordering, menus, etc. Thumbs way down for service. At one point, I thought "is this a joke"? Very disappointed in this place. No music playing so it's like awkwardly quiet. It feels depressing the longer you sit. Yikes. We will never be returning. This restaurant started out as my new favorite, and particularly because it's locally owned, and they had a really good taco salad. Upon the last few times visiting this restaurant, we noticed a rapid decline in their customer satisfaction efforts. We were not offered refills in a timely manner, and when we were finally offered refills, they never brought them. We waited an unreasonable length of time waiting to pay the bill as well, which is done at the counter. They had sufficient staff on hand, and a fairly empty dining room this specific night. We are always very nice and thankful for the service, and always compliment the food, and are unsure what has changed from the first few times we began eating there. One of my favorite Mexican spots to eat in Stockton. I've been coming here for years. However, the portions are very small.. Especially, compared to most of the other Stockton Mexican spots. This place is a staple. Their chile verde and huevos rancheros are so yummy. With reasonable prices and a plentiful helping of food, you'll come back for more. I like how they have online ordering through their website. It makes planning for dinner a breeze after work. When dining in, they provide you with a good amount of chips and salsa as well as refills. What I also like about Tio Pepe's is the fact they use local produce. This is a plus. 4/7/2020 - Today, I am craving Tio Pepe's delicious chicken tacos. To me there's none like them. However, I was surprised to find out that they closed the location in Lincoln Center which is the one I frequented. I just happened to be helping a friend out in these days where we are going through a lot of sickness and deaths with this virus. I couldn't help but ask the cashier why they closed that location and she said "that they were the same restaurant, but different owners, and welcomed me to come here!" Yes, the food was the same! My tacos and chips and salsa was delicious!!! She told me that every week they will be doing a variety of family packs. Unbeknownst to me these family packs costs more then they usually costs. I am sure they are trying to make up for the loss of revenue of both the virus-related causes and the closing of one of their locations. Personally, I will miss going to Lincoln Center as I don't travel pass Harding Way much. This will truly be a treat to come this far for some tacos. read more

The chili relleno was delicious, it was a bit hot, but when you eat it with the beans and rice together it was perfect. I picked up a lunch take out and it was ready when I got there. I was there a couple of years for an Anniversary party and I had Chili Colorado it was delicious like my Mom use to make. Lunch specials for everyone! I work downtown and picked up lunch for myself and some coworkers. I haven't been here in years! Placed my order during lunchtime and food was ready timely. Everything was hot and fresh. Chicken tacos are exactly the same as I remember them, so good with the gravy drizzle inside. My coworker had the chicken quesadilla with gravy and she loved it. My other co worker had an asada quesadilla and we introduced her to the gravy and she was hooked. Later in the week, I ordered dinner for my family and it didn't taste the same. Yesterday not only was Cancun staff rude and disrespectful but the dishes of gravy n cheese had smooshed beans and filth on them- serving food in unwashed dishes. Carne Asada nachos gave me a crazy stomach ache all night. I can tell the meat they used was refrigerated from at least the day before. Never ordering from here again. There's a lot of mixed reviews for this place but I have always enjoyed the food here. My favorites are the crispy chicken taco, beef burrito with gravy and I LOVE their rice. Love this place.. They accommodated my "special" order of Huevos Rancheros with Shrimp, and it was delicious... Hubby got the #7 and he said his was tasty Chips and salsa are great... This is one of those restaurants we always look forward to catering our media meals with the Thunder. We finally went into the actual location for a staff lunch and I was excited to give it a try fresh from the kitchen. We had a large group of nine people plus a to-go order and we were all excited and hungry. We started off with the salsa which was really good and had a kick and we added some guacamole which could have used a little extra flavor. We all ordered and when it came out it looked great! My combination plate tasted good and I had enough left to take home for an extra meal. The service was a little spotty though, I'm not sure if they were giving us space because we were a group or if they were just having an off day. I went through my cup of water pretty quickly and after a while they brought over a pitcher for us to fill our own glasses, but when the pitcher was empty we didn't have anyone to check in to fill it again. While it didn't ruin my meal its always nice to have a full water especially when you're enjoying some salty food. If you're nearby and looking for some good food I'd give Tio Pepe's a try, but with so many great choices around you may have a favorite that will trump this spot. read more

Every time we would drive by this place I always said "we have to try it". Heading home after a long day at work when we decided to finally stop here. When we arrived there was a only one full table being served and the rest of the restaurant was empty. Older lady that was seated next to the kitchen advised us to sit any where in Spanish. Service was pretty fast. We received fresh chips and tasty salsa, Once I received my pepsi I was hoping everything else would be tasty since my soda was FLAT. Unfortunately our meals here were not appetizing. I ordered the chicken Flautas(rolled deep fried tacos) plate with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole. Plate was a decent portion with 3 tacos present coated in cheese. Once I bit into the first taco I was honestly grossed out. I could taste the corn oil it was very strong, possibly reusing the same oil from the pans. Hmm not sure. That wasn't all though, the chicken had a smell to it and my Spanish rice looked brown, which I definitely could not try. He ordered a carne asada super burrito, which was also coated with cheese up top. He took a couple bits , then asked me "You ready"... "helll yesss, lets go" we would def not return. His burrito had plenty of fat pieces present which just top it off for us. Customer service here is alright. Seems like they have their usual regulars they cater to. read more
