My hands down favorite breakfast spot in Stockton. Moved here from Oakland a few years back and was looking for some good Mexican food. I tried several recommendations from Yelp and out of all of them, Mi Ranchito was/is my favorite. Staff and host David are all friendly and accommodating. Garbage spot. Smells like sh!t when you enter the building. The lady who rang me up was rude AF was wearing a mask but didn't cover her nose or mouth wearing it was a chin guard. Hair ball salsa anyone??!! What a disgrace. This place used to be so Good. So we went the other day and there was a hair in the gravy. Our waitress Erika was very rude. She slammed down plates and accuses Of planting the hair. We are blond the hair is black. We asked for a refund on the food we did not touch. And gave it back. She presented us w a bill and insisted we pay for the hair and the food we returned Whe. Lifelong customer here, my family had been eating at MiRanchito for decades. This morning, whomever "took over" was so rude about placing an order I will never come back. He made me feel like my business didn't matter and he took responsibility for being the "person to talk to" as though there weren't another manager or owner I would have the opportunity to speak with. Mi Ranchito has been in business for years, 50 years may be more. They are in their second or third building which were in the same proximity. So they must be doing something right. The food is tasty. The regular patrons are not Yelpers, so you will get a bias view here. I remember in the real old days you had to ask for a fork. The patrons all ate with their tortillas. I am more a fan of their breakfasts. I have not eaten another type of meal there in many years now. This place gets all my respect. My mom got into a car accident today and pulled her car into this place to wait for a tow truck. While waiting she went inside to offer a soda and wait for myself and the tow truck to get there to her rescue. While she was waiting the owner helped her out by looking at her car and assisting to make things better for her. Reassured her she will be safe there until I arrived. (since she was in a town she has never been too) he was very nice and welcoming to her. I appreciate him for his kindness and this place has my respect. If any customer breaks down there they do have jumper cables for you guys. That's what I call customer service at its best. OK so I arrive and ordered a chicken Quesadilla to go. After getting off to a rough start the first few times we've eaten here (we only came here because of family get-togethers, and their proclamations of being their "favorite place for Mexican food" ) I have actually found something that will get me smiling. 2 3/4 Stars. On the menu today... Chips & Salsa (** 3/4) - Over-Sized warm chips, with Salsa with a red Chili mixture that was watery and kinda bland. Machaca (*** $7.75) - Very hefty portions for the price. Shredded Beef, Eggs, Green Peppers, Onions... all the ingredients were there, but had to dump all of the Salsa just to add to the taste. Different than other Mexican restaurants in that the Refried Beans are replaced by whole White Beans... Interesting. And there was also Mexican Rice. Tortillas (***) - Store bought THICK, double-thick tortillas... probably too thick. Negra Modelo (**** $3.50) - Can't go wrong with this on a hot day! Light and Malty... Smoooth! Ahhh! Chile Relleno ala Carte (* $2.85) - I'm using this strategy now for any Mexican restaurant that I'm not familiar with. Rather than risking getting disgusted with the whole meal and losing out on $7-$10, the most I'm risking is $3 usually. And despite the low price... this Chile Relleno is not worth even that much. Prepared from a frozen Relleno... the Sauce was a very watery Jalapeno, vegetable mixture... not the thick sauce I'm used to. Seemed like the soup came from the Cocido; NOT supposed to be served with Chile Rellenos! One of the worst prepared Chile Rellenos I've had. Horchata (*** $2) - I'm going to like any drink today... after the ride here to Stockton... I need all the liquids I can get! Service (****) - Very friendly waitress... tried to answer all my questions. Something of coincidence (to me, at least) - After finishing my meal, I biked around downtown Stockton to see what new restaurants and sights there were... and then started my ride back to Lodi to avoid the higher temperatures later that afternoon. Biked up El Dorado, and passed by M------- Street... and guess whose house I happened on... my waitress at Mi Ranchito!. She was maintaining her lawn... I guess she recognized me before I recognized her. Tried to keep the conversation short... didn't want to give the impression I was a STALKER! But when I got to S & B... the restaurant had changed their hours for Saturday from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Dang! I wasn't just going to sit around for a couple of hours waiting... Decided to see what was new downtown... I was riding down towards Charter Way on Center Street and saw Mi Ranchito Cafe with a lot full of cars... and I mean the lots (front and back) were FULL! I asked some guys coming out of Mi Ranchito how the food was... they replied it was Real Good! I parked my bike to peek through the windows... Full House! I was thinking to myself... There are so many people every day at Mi Ranchito... And none of them are Yelpers???? When I came back over an hour later... this owner wanted to replicate the Mexican Ranch experience completely! All the interior doors are faux Wood Plank doors that give the impression of wide natural colored hand-hewn planks... (fake, but) NICE! Mi Ranchito consists of two main rooms. The front room is where most of the customers are seated. There is U-shaped counter seating smack-dab in the center with tables lining either side; the kitchen is in the rear. The second room, I guess, is for private parties and for reserved functions with an available speaker podium. Both rooms are dominated by hand-painted murals that continue the "Ranchero" theme established by the owner. One of the murals in the back is of the owner himself, now deceased, with his grand-kids. In summary... low prices, but you'll have to pick and choose your entrees. The murals are a "must-see", though. Disgusting place to go eat. Bad service and food. My family, friends and I went to eat and will never come back. Since the beginning one waitress sat us then she took the order, minutes after another waitress comes and let us know that she was going to take us the order because the previous waitress got another table and does not want give her our order. The waitress forgot our order and several times she ask not counting that when she brought the food my friend had order chile verde and they brought her chile rojo. Next day first thing in the morning I called and shared that 2 member of my family and I had eaten there and had diarrhea and vomiting for 2 days in a row non stop Her answer was that she had eaten chorizo with eggs and she didn't got sick and that the menudo no one had a complain and that was finish. I have been coming here for breakfast for almost 20 years. The food is delicious, hot and fresh. We usually get the Machaca which is always tender. My husband gets the Chile con Colorado which has the perfect amount of spice and tender chunks of beef. We also love the menudo on the weekends. This was the first time since Covid we have been to Mi Ranchito and is most likely the last time I go there. The food was marginal at best after a 45 min wait and seeing our food sitting under the heating lamps for at least 10 ... then the waitress that helped us refused to come back and sent another waitress who was really nice and was on it... Brakfast here was very good . We had the Chicana w/side 2eggs. Our waitress was great didnt get her name but she managed the right side when you walk in. Only negative is they need a cashier to work the counter. I seen several people waiting in line to pay & the waitresses wouldnt stop. We to had wait for sometime with no one acknowledging us at the counter. Finally Angelica said she would help us and came over and rang up our bill. I'm from out of town but hubby grew up eating here. Initially the service doesn't seem too good but as you wait you realize the servers are courteous they are just very busy. You can tell they do their best to keep cost and prices low. We did wait at the table for a while to be served and so I served my own coffee- they didn't mind. We also grabbed our own menus. Do not come here if you are in a rush. Our food was delicious. Tortillas were homemade. Salsa was good. And the services were nice. I don't give five stars loosely. This place was an excellent find. They serve freshly made tortillas here! WHAAAAT!! I ordered the rancheros with Nopales, and was pleasantly surprised. The Nopales were cut into strips so you can actually taste them. The atmosphere is very open and friendly. Our server Sosimo was such a sweetheart. Very attentive and bubbly. He made the experience enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's interested in good Mexican food.
