call them after a lightning strike. had them check my dryer connection replace my outside receptacles with new updated optic code receptacles with covers. Installed a receptacle in my pantry so that my wife can plug in her Dyson also a receptacle and our toilet area so that we can add a bidet Adela later time they checked our breaker panel updated where needed to be, and then added a whole house surge protector. Both installers were very professional and clean up after themselves. I explained everything ahead of time so there was no surprises. When we reached out following their public response to our review, all they said was 'the price was correct.' Had routine maintenance on HVAC units. Tarik was our service technician. He called ahead to say he was on his way and showed up promptly. He was very thorough and explained everything he did. Made suggestions as to improvements we could make but was not pushy. We have been very pleased with M&S since the installation of units and would definitely recommend them to others. read more

the technician Kyal was great, he did exactly what needed to be done but the price was almost double what it should have been. I probably wouldn't have gone with the price if I wasn't on a time crunch with the other contractors. the job was to install a bathroom vent fan on a new construction build. the original price would have been over $1,700 for just the install but if you get Michael and Sons maintenance gimmick it drops to $1,500 which is still way over priced. The total price ended up over $1,600 because he had to install a $140 electrical box. I won't use Michael and Sons again just based on price gouging but the tech was good. read more

Terrible customer service, they take appointments then don't send anyone and don't call to tell you they're not sending anyone. That happened to me twice. They also sent someone to fix my doorbell, it wasn't fixed and when I called to ask the technician to come Back and do the work I was told I'd be charged both a fee for showing up and for the work again. Having a live human to talk to when I called at 3 am with two backed up toilets was a real plus (rather than just leave voicemai). Lawrence was here at the chosen time and worked in 98 degree heat to get our plumbing system back to normal. He was very thorough and kind. You guys are VERY expensive ($1,110), but I expected that to be the case to get service on a Saturday. He did a great job and answered all my questions. He should be commended for his professionalism and willingness to work as long as needed to get things right. Thanks again for having someone answer the phone. All the other "24 hour" plumbers just had voicemai. I worked in call centers for 18 years, so I know what it is like to have someone available 24 hours/day. What I Liked: The customer service was excellent. Everyone was polite, respectful, and professional. The work was completed promptly and seems to be of good quality. What I Didn't Like: The pricing was extremely high. The initial service call was reasonably priced at $69, which led me to believe the repair costs would be similarly fair--unfortunately, that was not the case. The repair costs were exorbitant, at least double what an independent plumber would charge. I had three issues: a leak repair, pressure valve replacement, and expansion tank replacement. I was told that if I only opted for the leak repair, they wouldn't offer a warranty. Wanting the warranty, I proceeded with all three repairs. However, after the work was completed, I was informed that they couldn't offer a warranty on the leak repair due to the type of piping in my house. This felt like a classic bait-and-switch. Ultimately, I wouldn't use their services again unless it was an emergency and no independent plumbers were available. read more

My tenant requested service to replace a garbage disposal. The work was done in less than an hour. The bill was $900. OUTRAGEOUS. Another quality company would have done the job for $370. The plumber was asked to look at a toilet leaking at its base. He wanted $600 to just lift and replace the toilet. Any problem could cost $1600. We declined his offer. Cary plumbing came instead, lifted the toilet, replaced and repositioned the flange, reset the toilet and charged $500. Michael and Sons charges 2.5 to 3 times more than other companies. A complaint call to their general manager resulted in a $50 reduction in the $900 charge. Shop around. Avoid this company! read more

Had an HVAC winter inspection from Michael & Son and Mohammed B. inspected my unit. He was very personable and thorough and showed me the pictures he took inside the unit and crawl space. I have the maintenance plan and grateful I do bc the inspections give me the opportunity to be proactive in caring for my plumbing, electric and , HVAC needs. I at no point felt he was upselling and nothing was critical so it was information on what would be helpful for a unit my age. I've been using Michael & Son for years now. They've replaced both of our over 15 year old units. We had one go out on the 4th of July one year. I called their office which is manned on a 24 hour 7 day a week basis at 4 am. They had someone out before lunch to effect a repair and restore cooling! The only downside is that they try to up-sell you every annual check. I have very good knowledge of HVAC, so I know what I need and what's just a nice thing to do. Other folks could be tripped up by this practice and spend $$ that's not really needed. read more

I was satisfied with the HVAC technicians at Micheal & Son Heating and Cooling up until my last encounter. The last tech I had told me that I had mold in my HVAC and tried to get me sign up for treatments that would have cost me over $1,000. That same technician sold me the "Silver HCA Membership" which he assured me that it would cover all dispatch fees for up until 1 year if I ever needed service. It came time for my next service and I found out from the operator that my service membership didn't cover any dispatch fees and I would need to pay full price. I explained to dispatch that I was mislead by the technician and she did nothing about it and just offered for me to pay additional money on Gold membership instead. I was happy with their service until this incident, they just grifted me out $189. I will not be using their services again. read more

I needed to replace the cartridge in a shower valve. I tried to do it myself. However, the cartridge got stuck. Even with the core puller, the cartridge only came out about a quarter inch. I called Michael & Son, they would not quote me a price to replace the cartridge but instead charge me $80 to have a technician to come take a look. When the technician came, he did not make an attempt to pull out the cartridge but told me that the entire valve assembly needed to be replaced. This includes cutting a hole in the drywall in the wall behind the shower. I challenge him on this. His response was if I couldn't pull it out and I look strong, he would not be able to pull it out either. The cost would be $1605. The technician's attitude was a bit arrogant. The work took about couple hours. I googled the hourly rate for a plumber in my area. Even for emergency service rate (this was not an emergency), the cost is about $150/hr to $300/hr. Including parts, this does not add up to $1605 though. At the end he also mentioned that the water heater expansion tank needed to be replaced because the pressure is a bit high. That cost would be another $512 dollars. I watched an youtube video on how to detect a damaged hot water heater expansion tank. It says if you push the value and water comes out then it needs to be replaced. It doesn't quite fit what the technician was saying. In conclusion, I believe the technician up sold me on repairs at a premium price. I am not sure if the technician gets a cut for the repairs or this is the general practice for Michael & Son. I would definitely use a different plumbing company next time. read more

They were quick, responsive and replaced our furnace and AC units at a competitive price. I hate how expensive these items have gotten but I got several quotes and they were the best value (not cheapest). The installers were professional, they used plastic on the floors and sticky plastic to cover the stairs as they worked. The house is cooling way better than ever. Haven't had a chance to try the heat yet but expect no different. The only ding on the service was the installers didn't show at the time quoted by the sales rep and when we called to get an answer as to when they would arrive and why they were late, there were inconsistent reasons given by their team. Other than that, it was a good experience minus the almost $10,000 bill. Hard to be happy about that but they offered 36 months zero interest so that was helpful. read more

Steer clear of this place. They say they do it all, but they do NONE of it well. Overpriced, pressure sales tactics, and poor quality job overall. A botched AC system installation resulted in 2 months of lost work, extreme heat, large AC bills and a flood of johnny com lately techs parading in and out of our home only to say..'call if it happens again'. We were forced to prove it was happening and when I produced dozens of recordings they still said... it doesn't seem to be equipment failure and they refused to contact Carrier. We had to do that on our own. Finally we kicked them out and demanded they take their system and GO AWAY. They are gone and the system is gone, however, I am yet to see our 25,000 that they took from us. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS... READ THE REAVIEWS.. START WITH THE WORST FIRST.. I was a loyal customer of Michael and Sons for over ten years when I lived in Raleigh. I hired them probably a dozen times to work on projects big and small, and recommended them to others. After moving to Garner, however, I had a very terrible experience with them that has made me look elsewhere for plumbing and heating/AC work. I was attempting to install a bidet on a toilet, and grabbed the line coming out of the floor to connect the water line, and the pipe broke. I had a technician come out immediately who simply turned off the water because I wouldn't have the money to fix it for a few days. I went four days without water. On the fifth day, a technician came back out. He told me the type of pipe I had under the toilet was very brittle, and that the slightest touch would break it. Unbeknownst to me, he proceeded to replace the broken pipe with a pipe OF THE SAME MATERIAL. Not knowing this, I again attempted to connect the bidet, and the pipe broke again. The tech then told me that on top of the $900 I had already paid, it would be another $760 to replace the pipe that just broke, as it broke in even more places than before. I told him I had only $600 and since Michael and Sons had my card on file already, could they charge the rest to that card six days later when I got paid. Despite having been a loyal customer for over ten years, and probably paying them well over $20,000 in repair work, the answer was no. I called "customer service" and explained the situation, and again, they said no. I then went without water for another week. I was out hundreds of dollars in hotel expenses in addition to the $900 I had already paid to NOT have my water fixed. I hope, for Michael and Sons' sake, that $160 was worth losing a lifetime customer. I will never hire them again. Treating long-time customers like crap is bad customer service. Terry C read more
