Saturday I had an appointment with Dom Cavallaro, who came highly recommended by friends, and he was the most mellow, meticulous, courteous sales representative I have ever had in my 55 years of car buying/leasing. We spoke via phone first and laid all the groundwork of what information he needed and went from there. There was no pressure and the numbers were better than I expected. Why is it that customer service and response fall to the waist side after purchase. All was good 3 mos ago when we purchased the vehicle. Over 3 mos later... No one will tell me, or direct me to the status of my title. DMV has confirmed nothing has been received from the dealership. So after being passed around, put on hold, disconnected, and no resolution; I've resorted to a Yelp review in hopes to receive a response. I researched used Foresters on the site which listed 4-5 when I asked a sales manager what vehicles were on The lot. I then wrote that manager saying I'd be down the next morning following my hour drive. Arrived an hour after their opening. The manager hadn't read my message, nothing was prepared. She handed us over to a sales guy. They had one beat up Forester for us to look at after waiting for them to clean it. The other vehicles the manager sent me weren't available, no real explanation offered. Sales guy suggested we come back later in the week. We drove back to Reno and promptly found a vehicle at Carmax. Their available cars on lot met what they list on their website. Inexcusable that Hohl doesn't. Three weeks later the Hohl sales guy calls me asking if I'm still looking...clown act. read more

The service department was ok on 2 recalls, insofar as getting it scheduled and done quickly when dropped off. But my latest encounter was very poor, starting with an erroneous intermittent Starlink light coming on, which they, the service dept at Michael Hohl Subaru detected and contacted me about getting it looked at. So I made an appointment and drove up from Gardnerville (about a half hour away) only to be told by the service advisor that I need to call Starlink to get that fixed. So I drive home disappointed and call Starlink only to be told that it needs to be diagnosed by a service technician, but the Starlink light later went out so I thought all was well. Low and behold the problem came back, Starlink light comes on again and once again the service dept contacts me and says they can look at it. I explained what happened the last time I brought it in and stated I didn't want to waste my time driving another hour round trip only to be told they can't help me again. She assured me that they would look at it this time and we set an appointment. So I show up today early for a 3:30 appointment only to be told by a very rude service advisor that there's not enough time today to diagnose the problem. He didn't even apologize for their screw up, as I was assured it would get looked at this time. So bottom line is I wasted 2 trips and still have an unresolved problem with the Starlink system. read more

I purchased a 2020 outback the sales Dept I have had a great deal of issues with the car, mainly the console head unit. What I was told when purchasing the car in what it could do as far as combatability with my phone, navigation, etc.. Does not work. I have taken it it to be checked, and claim that all of the issues relate to 3 party providers, like the software for the navagation system (tomtom), Google Android Auto, satellite radio that is not Subaru. We reached out to Subaru corporate they would not listen to us or be of any help. They soley repeated that dealer hold them. They would not even check there own website on phone combatability. This review is specifically for Chris, in the service department, who is the best person I have ever come across in the car industry! Holh are incredibly lucky to have him on the team. It is solely because of him that I will return to Hohl and recommend this company. I purchased my car at the end of July and was told I had a warranty for 90 days by the sales rep. I had a list of electrical issues that I wanted to get checked out. When I arrived Chris diligently took down all my concerns. As it turned out, what the sales rep had said was misleading as I was informed that the warranty was only for the engine. I had driven from California and so it seemed like a big wasted trip. However Chris stepped in and did all he could to help with my list of issues. I couldn't believe how amazing, caring and helpful he was. And he made it fun to try and troubleshoot the issues. I learnt alot! He went out of his way to ask the team for advice for me on some issues we couldn't understand. It really made the trip worthwhile. Thanks Chris! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! You know those sleazy car dealerships you hear about that waste your time and try to screw you on pricing? This is one of those places. I was there for almost five hours before everything was said and done. They played so many games with me and I really should have just walked out once I knew what they were. I actually had to walk to get the price I wanted; the salesman chased me down to my car and offered me a better deal. They will 100% try to screw you over. Completely shocked! I know dealerships were known for shady service and also known as " stealerships" but i thought those days were over. I made an appointment to get my airbags serviced as there was a recall. I also asked if they could look at the headlight as there is a design flaw. I had previously changed the bulb and checked the fuse before i came in. I dropped the vehicle off and after about an hour, the service department informed me that i needed rear brakes and rotors due to minimal rust and wear and tear. The job was $500. I declined. I was charged for a new bulb and installation. I later dropped the car off to my Subaru mechanic and asked if he could look at the brakes and rotors. My mechanic saw that the brakes were at 80% in tact and the rotors were perfect. The minimal rust was due to the 10 months in storage(San Diego CA) as my son was deployed to the Persian Gulf. The rust was due to his base being so close to the ocean. My mechanic also stated the bulb was the bulb i purchased at Napa Auto Parts. I really enjoyed the process at Michael Subaru as it was easy and the staff was nice. It really disgusted me that i was taken advantage of and that Michael Subaru was trying to make me replace brakes and rotors that were in terrific condition. The headlight bulb was also disappointing along with the $50 installation and $30 replacement fake bulb. I will never recommended, purchase or service any of my vehicles again.  So much for having trust in dealerships read more

I love this place. I now live in Reno but continue to shop exclusively at this dealership. (Lithia is bad news...). Yesterday I purchased a brand new Crosstrek. Steven Segal helped me through the process. We were connect via chat from the website prior to my visit to the dealership. He answered all questions thoroughly (even outside of business hours). Now, a day later, I had questions about my Starlink remote start package and he was up, answering my texts before 8am. STAY AWAY FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IF YOU CAN!!! Great car-buying experience, horrible time with service! I've only ever taken my 2015 Crosstrek here for the past year I've had it (2 oil changes and my 15K interval service), and the service department sucks. So difficult to get ahold of them, and it seems like they just want your money then forget about giving you the service you deserve. I came here at 8:30 for my 15K service. Arvin checked me in, asked me if they could hold my car till noon, and I said ok. About 10:15, I got a call saying my car was ready for pick up. I had already made plans to do things till noon, so I didn't get back till 11:45. As soon as I got there, I asked Arvin about my car. He shuffled some papers on his desk, said that he doesn't see my paperwork there, and that my car wasn't ready yet. SERIOUSLY!!! I was told over an hour ago that my car was ready and now it's not??? WTF. He didn't even check anywhere else, just went on with his life. Lol. I tried to ask the lady at the back about it, but she just waved me off saying I should ask the guys up front. I sat around another 10-15 minutes waiting until the other guy, Celso, got off the phone. (Arvin was busy chatting with another customer) And guess what? Celso was able to find my paperwork at the back office! Or wherever, it wasn't on his desk. Wasted my time, and I had to be at work at 12:30. How inconsiderate. Paid almost $300 for shitty treatment. Cool. Theeeeen, things got more interesting when I got my car. They didn't even wash it when it said on their website that the 15K service comes with a free car wash. Talked on the phone with the manager, Steve, and he said, "oh, I ought to change that (website) cause we just can't do it." Silly, cause when I went back to Celso after seeing my dusty car AND after showing them the info on the website, he offered to have my car washed. TOO LATE. I'M LATE FOR WORK. Not that the car wash was THAT important, but it freaking says on their website that it comes with the service so I expected it. Very, very disappointed with this place. I hope to find a better Subaru dealership to go to for my 30K service, which costs about $700-$800 btw. Pay that for crappy treatment? Uhm, no, thank you. read more

People always told me not to take your car to a dealership because they overcharge, but with Subaru, I always feel like I'm getting personalized service that really cares about me and knows my car. They communicate with me who it parts and always seem more interested in maintaining my patronage than getting the next buck. I told them they could keep the car as long as needed to find the problems and fix them. The service writer and the technician that worked on the car were awesome. They went above and beyond to get the car fixed properly. My daughter said she will take her car to Michael Hohl Subaru for all if her service work and oil changes. 3.5 Look, we all know buying a car is one of the most soul-sucking experiences of your life. I had a 1997 Honda CR-V that I bought 14 years ago; the experience then being a single woman trying to buy a car without much experience doing so traumatized me so that it was one of the reasons that I kept the car that I had for so long - the idea of repeating that experience wasn't one I looked forward to. Fast forward to this day and age when everything is pretty much on the internet. Do your research. Go in and steel yourself to play the numbers game. Never accept the first round of numbers they pretend they want to give to you because you're such a nice customer. Don't accept the second round either. Listen to me: EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE. I came to get my car serviced & waited inside for an HOUR just for an oil change. The service man took my keys and said he would pull it forward. I came inside. No one told me I had to check my car in until I asked for an estimated time and he said "oh this car right here" so obviously they knew it was there. It's a whole ass car sitting there. He then told me it would be another hour but couldn't help me because I wasn't sure who it was that pulled my car forward. I was preapproved by a bank and was told to bring that preapproval with me and it would be granted. To my surprise after applying at this dealership my credit dropped 25 points and was being ran by over 10 different banks. When I called the dealer to ask them why they were not submitting my loan to the bank I had gotten my preapproval from I was told they no longer use this bank and that that banks fees are too high..Why wasn't I told this prior to running my credit?! This should have been a red flag and I should have stopped there. After my score has dropped 25 points I felt obligated to purchase here as I did not want to continue to shop and further get my credit ran. My husband was in love with a vehicle that happen to be at this lot therefore I proceeded with the purchase. The finance manager I believe his name was Matt told me he would only sell me the vehicle if I purchased the extended warranty (this is illegal) I asked what if I don't want the extended warranty he replied he would not sell me the vehicle without it because he is not making money and that he would rather sell this vehicle to someone with better credit who got approved with a better bank. Avoid the service department at all costs! Supposedly, they haven't made a mistake in the nine years the service manager has been there. I understand that claim more after having them mis-diagnose an issue that my car was having, recommend an expensive fix, suggest that Subaru of America would help me with the expensive fix (which they did) and then refuse to acknowledge that the expensive fix didn't work and that the real solution to my problem was less than 10% of the amount that I paid for the expensive fix.
