Major points however for being THE ONLY place in town selling my traveling coffee tube thingie...a must have when traveling to areas that you can't get a good cup of joe. Throw a few scoops over your favorite coffee into a zip lock bag, a few filters and Bam! You're golden. If you're curious about what i'm referring too? Pop in there and take a peak. Hands down this place is incredible from the quaint house like location with outdoor garden area to the beautiful friendly humans behind the counter to the vast variety of amazing coffee selections and types. I highly recommend treating yourself to this experience. You deserve it. One last story: one day I was down, having relationship stresses and had been crying; the place was empty it was a slow time of day I guess and the 2 baristas behind the counter stoped their cleaning to see if I was ok and didn't allow me to pay for my coffee! It was needed. (Although I thanked them that day Thank you again for your kindness I am grateful you checked on me it was a really rough lonely time.) I highly recommend this establishment. I love that they have micro-lot coffee. Sourcing is almost more important to me than taste, but the taste is great as well! Just make sure to ask specifically for micro-lot if you care about the source. You'll have to request a pour-over because the demand isn't that high in Albuquerque. read more

Michael Thomas Coffee Roaster offers a pleasant enough setting (inside and outside) that probably offers a better product than I was able to sample, but the air of self-importance--and the accompanying hefty price tag--set such a pall that I was impelled to abort my mission of getting a pleasant hour or two worth of work done there, while leaving with a vary sour taste in my mouth (that had nothing to do with the coffee itself). I can appreciate Michael Thomas's inventive approaches to preparation, including the rarely-seen Mizudashi. But it comes at such an inordinate cost (starting at $4.40): probably about 4 oz of drink and 8 oz of ice cubes. IOW, about four medium-length straw slurps. And the vegan burrito I enjoyed along with it was decent enough, but it clearly wasn't homemade and I had to heat it myself using their microwave. Meh. But some initially pleasant service took a real negative turn. I abided by all their COVID-19 expectations (particularly stringent in New Mexico), but when I came back to the main room after getting seated with my four-sip Mizudashi and the first bite of my microwaved burrito simply to ask for the wifi password, they refused to give it to me unless I had a mask on. A single question and a single answer, but a refusal on the part of the staff because I failed for those five second to don the tunic of invincibility. There's a fine line between reasonable precaution and authoritarian stupidity, and this clearly fell in the latter camp. Don't treat your customers like kindergartners, Michael Thomas. And don't stiff us with a cup full of ice cubs and a splash of $5 coffee. Plenty of other friendly taste coffee shops in Albuquerque. Spare the eatery experience and order the beans online. read more

I wish I could give them a better review. I've been coming to this location for 6 years as it's in my neighborhood, and I've had great experiences previously. I even order coffees from them for meetings and local gatherings I organize for work. I have even told colleagues & neighbors about them. I love supporting local coffee roasters. I haven't been there since the pandemic changed our lives, so imagine my surprise when I went there today and was treated like a smashed bug on a windshield. However, today, I was gonna call to pickup a usual order of coffee beans and my phone lost service all of a sudden. I was with my dogs and it was too hot for them to be left in my car. I know they have a policy against dogs in the cafe. But, I figured I could just try wave someone over from the door and tell them my order. Other coffee shops in Albuquerque allow you to do that or even ask you for your order in their patios. A white girl in a black shirt came to the door and told me the dogs weren't allowed. I said, "Yes, I know that. I was wondering if you could help me since my phone died..." But, she rolled her eyes and closed the door on me, hitting one of my dogs' faces in the process. It's unfortunate that a coffee shop that makes decent coffee would have such rude employees. There are many coffee shops in Albuquerque that provide way better service than what one of your employees have provided. Why risk subjecting myself to such hostility again? I'm more than happy to take my business elsewhere. read more

This place was a whole vibe! The patio is gorgeous. Although, the seating is very limited when busy and it was hard for me to find a spot to sit with two people since small parties sit at bigger tables. Luckily, a kind girl allowed me to sit with her until my guest arrived. The staff was friendly and kind. The atmosphere was pleasant and not rowdy or loud as everyone was either working on computers or meeting with peers. I didn't get a chance to taste their coffee but opted for a nice iced chai tea latte, which was perfect; not too sweet. Michael Thomas has my favorite coffee in town! But, they have a lot of turnover, there's always new people there which tells me the owners aren't great to work for. There's usually 3 or 4 people behind the bar but it takes a while to actually get a drink. One of my biggest issues is that I always order an iced drink and about 6 times now I've been given a hot drink. I don't want to ask them to remake it when I waited a while for it and they're still busy. I don't understand why the cashier doesn't grab a hot/cold cup as soon as you order and write what you ordered on it to prevent mistakes, every other coffee shop does this. Oh man, this coffee shop offers EVERYTHING I look for in a local cafe: home roasted coffee beans, baked goods from local bakeries, and good vibes. I absolutley loved coming here and trying their different roasts! When you enter the store, you will see the wall of fresh coffee beans that they have from all over the world. These coffee beans are so incredibly fresh, which you can easily tell by the quality of their espresso. I got an iced Cubano with macadamia nut milk, which was absolutely divine. Sometimes you cannot beat sipping a Nutella Latte, firing up your laptop, and listening to the birds chirp at MT's outdoor patio. Pretty awesome set-up overall. One spade I have to share is at times I have not felt a warm welcome or a sense of belonging interacting with the staff at this location. And I don't think I'm alone on this one that in general the baristas/ownership at this MT are not friendly. All in all, there's a solid crowd at this spot and I only see their reputation go up from here. read more

I came in and was told (very politely) I'd need to pay for an extra shot. $8+ for a latte is where I draw the line, there are far better places to spend my money. I've been to better and cheaper third wave spots in LA and NY, I feel like this place doesn't deliver on the quality or service I expect or have received elsewhere. Lots of great spots in ABQ; I prefer Cutbow, my favorite in the state. Paul Gallegos, the owner, studied under Alfred Peet in the Bay Area! Also Ihatov is great. We've been coming to this location for the last 4 weeks since first getting to Albuquerque and have had nothing but a great experience until today. Ella was amazing and so nice. She helped us choose a pour over using the syphoning process and explained everything. Nathan on the other hand was extremely rude from the moment we walked in. We were trying to read the names of the coffee and he shooed us away. After Ella had already rang us up for our coffees using a gift card, Nathan shouted across the coffee shop saying that we had not paid and that he needed to ring us up. Thank goodness for Ella to explain to him that she had already taken care of it and then he proceeded to ask her HOW we paid. Really?! As a US ARMY COMBAT VETERAN I have never felt more disrespected. This coffee spot is tucked in a cute courtyard, offering lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I found street parking, but it looks like that may be a challenge normally. Staff were friendly and helpful. I loved the maple latte. It was perfect. These devils did their best, tempting me with fresh and delicious Whoo's donuts (delivered daily, thank you very much). But I held fast and only partook of their caffeinated delicacies. I planned on relaxing there with my latte and laptop, however there was a lively, loud, liberal rant between a couple of Birkenstock-wearing scholars, so I changed my order to go. Can't. I. Just. Drink. Coffee. Without. Political. Discourse...on the impending perils which will result due to current healthcare instability. I just want a cup of joe. Their Birkenstocks were cool, though. Almost never go to MT anymore since it's pretty out of my way but I decided to stop by and work there instead of the Starbucks a couple blocks away. The place is popular and seating is limited in the mornings as people get settled in to stay for a while. It was quite cold inside when they opened the large front garage door. The service was not friendly and the teas selection is not well displayed (if at all) so I had to choose in a hurry. I chose a lavender tea that was good. I don't think they offer a discount for bringing your own mug. An awkward thing I noticed while looking around are a microwave and toaster oven in the middle of the coffee shop. Apparently when you buy a burrito or pastry from them, you're also responsible for warming it up yourself. read more

Went here to try out the place and to study, but seating was limited so I didn't say long after I ordered. I got a coffee with vanilla in it. It was good and the staff was decently helpful. I've seen some people give MT a bad review because of a singular bad experience, which is unfortunate, because they have some of the best coffee in Albuquerque. If you really like coffee, they have the widest selection of different beans and brewing methods than any other place i've seen in New Mexico. For not a bad price. All of their espresso drinks are great as well. They've also recently increased their selection of baked goods and all the pastries are amazing. Their few food options like the burritos are fine but I wouldn't go recommending them to anyone. The staff are in my experience mostly very friendly and knowledgeable, but they do have a lot of staff and seem to go through people pretty quickly, so of course mistakes can happen. If you have a bad experience with someone I'd highly encourage you to try again, as bad experiences are not the norm. The patios are very nice and the entire atmosphere is so nice, and doesn't assault you with a try-hard hipster vibe that Little Bear does. MT will probably always be my favorite coffee shop in ABQ and probably not a week goes by where I don't go there to buy some great beans and enjoy some great drinks. Please give it a shot. read more

My dad and friends love this place. My dad walks here every morning and stays for over an hour every time he visits me. My friend is a bigger coffee fiend than I am. She loved her coffee and pound cake, and I enjoyed her pound cake too. I appreciate and enjoy local, but maybe I didn't order the right things. Quiche was on the dry side. The berry smoothie is just a berry mix-- no real fruit, juices, milk, etc. It was on the expensive side for food that's mediocre, but coffee is probably their strong suit so I should've ordered that. Really cute establishment.. it's got a bit of an industrial vibe. Prices are about the same as Starbucks but with more variety. I got the Iced Mike's Mocha and it was intense. It's got the subtle hint of blueberries with the kick of espresso. It's delicious but I'm sure it would've tasted better hot. One thing about the location is parking. I know I'm more than a little late in the game to be sayin' Ohhhh, so that's the Big Deal. First sip of a Nutella latte, my taste buds were absolutely lit. These beans, alongside the preparation that goes into a great artisan cup, have been the buzz of Burque for a long time now. Now that it's conveniently located in Nob Hill, I had a chance to taste the Big Deal and yeah, I get it. Absolutely wonderful coffee. The space is lovely, too. While the indoor main room appears a little cramped in tables per capita, there's a neat Lobo lair next to it, and the patio is the real draw here. The great weather in ABQ makes this new cafe shine. Add some incredible bakery case items from Hartford Square (#bestofburque) and the Chocolate Maven, and you have a recipe for serious success. Fantastic art decking the walls, too. Alas, I'll admit one qualm, though: location. Silver avenue doesn't need another great cafe; Limonata is right up the street. I really hope the two can coexist because it would be a shame to lose either venue. Should this cafe ever consider a move, I'd tell 'em to Go West, somewhere near Girard. That end of the 'hood needs good caffeine and so do the students that regularly chow down at The Shop. So hey guys, in the meantime, play nice, will ya? We had a bad experience with our barista (my drink was the Africano and basically just tasted like milk). From the moment we walked in, she just seemed agitated and upset. I asked her if they had any breakfast items available and when told all they had was in the showcase (which was basically one quiche type thing with no label or description), I only asked what it is. She got frustrated and repeated "what's in here is all we have". This was still ok but when it came time to take our coffee and leave - she said we are at 25% capacity. So I asked if we could use the empty table outside (there were some 6 fully occupied tables outdoors) and she again said " we are 25% capacity". How are we as customers expected to know what 25% looks like for a coffee shop? So I said that she needs to tell us if there are at capacity or no, to which she says "you need to maintain distance from other tables" - by this time the table we were hoping to sit at got occupied without a lecture from the barista. I am not sure what she had against us. It was just strange that the onus of maintaining 25% capacity and social distancing was being put on us whereas almost all other places I've been to the number of tables available and distance between them is managed by the restaurant staff. Terrible experience, she just stressed all of us out and put us in a bad mood. Not going here again. read more
