Been coming here with my aunt on the weekends usually mid to late afternoon. We always sit out on the patio. Michael's is a very dog friendly place and even has water bowls for dogs at the bar. Morris has even come to know some of the regulars. We have ordered a variety of items, mostly seafood 1) Lobster Crab Cake Platter 2) Asian Ahi Tuna 3) Buffalo Wings 4) Soft Shelled Crab Platter 5) Various Fresh Catch of the Day 6) Maryland Crab Soup The lobster and crab cake is a nice combination that I do not often see on menus. Occasionally it has been served a bit dry but usually it is moist and flavorful. The platters come with two sides. My aunt loves the broccolini. French fries are usually pretty good here too. The buffalo wings are consistently good and of a decent size. Sauce is basic without too much heat. My aunt who is a 93 year veteran of Baltimore swears that the soft shelled crab she had here was the largest one she has ever eaten. Whether that is true or not I can't say but she did thoroughly enjoy it and still talks about it. The fresh catch of the day is usually pretty good. I have had good luck with blackened red drum and blackened mahi. Not so much with the grilled rockfish. And usually I think the portions are on the small size for the price. Ahi Tuna was fresh the time I ordered it. Service has always been friendly and attentive out on the patio. Not even sure what the inside looks like. Parking is easy. And generally prices are fair with some decent happy hour offerings. Nice place read more

UPDATE! After seeing my review, Steven contacted me and sincerely apologized for the poor service. He also let me know that the girl who waited on me was no longer an employee of Michaels. He asked me to stop by the hostess station the next time I was in for a gift card. This evening, we hosted my coworker's retirement party in the bar area and it was lovely! The setup was perfect, the food was delicious, and the servers were more than delightful! I am very happy to say that I will be back very soon and am looking forward to it! read more

We had an uneven experience. The food was good, but overpriced. If the prices were "café" prices, the review would have been better. But for " fine dining" prices, it was disappointing. The good- quinoa with avocado and crab was innovative and delicious. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. Pringles family ice cream. The bad - we felt the pricing was deceptive when the bill came and we found that we were charged $6-7 extra for the simple seasonings on our "market" fish. Definitely better than my last visit. Appetizers included a wedge, oysters, and crab soup-all good. Everyone at the table ordered very similar entrees-a crab cake or lobster and crab cake. So... After not going to Michaels for 2 yrs and having a really bad customer service experience, a friend invited me to go. After some thought I decided to give them another chance. That was our favorite place. We started off with drinks , the bartender was friendly and attentive. We had 1 pound of steam shrimp , Delicious. We followed with The steak and crab imperial . I was not disappointed. The food was as I remembered , cooked to perfection and the addition of brussels sprouts was a good choice. I have been a customer of Michaels since the 90's and I'm happy that I had the opportunity to revisit them. read more

We went here with friends last night. Made an RSVP and felt like a rock star when we were seated right away (They had a line out the door). We were seated in one of their smaller rooms with 4 other tables. The waiter greeted us right away and brought us drinks. Unfortunately that's where the good time ended. We received our appetizers (friend green tomato stack and crab pretzel) about 2 minutes later before we even ordered. We proceeded to then wait 20+ minutes until our waiter checked back in with us. We were about 2 seconds from walking out. Apparently another table knocked over a wine glass and he was trying to clean it up (although he never told us why). The entire time he seemed to pay attention to the two tables with older people (60yrs+) at them which was frustrating. We finally got drink refills and the food came out quickly after that. Between the four of us we sampled a variety of dishes from the menu (scallops, lobster & crab cake, blackened chicken Caesar, cream of crab soup, chicken Chesapeake) and all were pretty good. It was clear that the kitchen had it together but the service was severely lacking. We even saw the manager walking around to check on tables but never made it to ours. I wish we had talked to him upon hind sight. This place has potential but unfortunately for the price of the entrees and poor service we won't be back. We should have trusted Yelp's rating and encouraged our friends to pick another place. I do not recommend it unless you aren't hungry and have the patience of a saint because the food is pretty good. read more

I love this place used to come here all the time when my children were younger for the crabcakes. This was over 31 years ago and still today, the menu has changed but the food is good, the service is great and they now offer brunch, music/concerts and sports entertainment. read more

My wife and I and a couple of friends went there last night, and the food was fair at best. My wife and someone else at the table got the Korean barbecue ribs, they said it was not that good, as the meat was not good quality, and the taste was not that good. Myself and my friend received the grilled rockfish, the flavor was good, but it was a little dry. I also had a side of the corn, it was so overcooked that the corn was basically mushy, and my asparagus was also overcooked. Especially your cream of crab soup (all crab meat dishes), shrimp salad sandwich (all shrimp dishes), & scallops ala Michael. My wife says we could go on and on with what we enjoy, but I'll stop there. We also want to commend one of your servers who always goes above & beyond to make sure we are pleased with the food & service while we visit your establishment. She has been with you for a long time and should be recognized as an extreme benefit to your business. We and several other customers know her by "Miss. Mary". When I first met her, I wasn't sure if I liked her or not. She has a bit of a dry personality, but also an extremely professional manor about her. Gave it a second chance. So irritated. Sat forever with no waiter. Finally went and asked someone after 10 minutes if I could place an order. Ordered shrimp salad sandwich and asked waiter if I could get a small house salad as my side. He said yes. While we were waiting for our food the waiter was taking an order at the table next to us. He was leaned over and the table was so close he actually bumped me with his butt. I had to put my hand up to move him away from my face. When my sandwich arrived it had no lettuce, no tomatoes and barely any shrill salad. See picture. I then asked waiter if it came with anything on it and he said no. My wilted side salad should have been an embarrassment to the kitchen. I then get the bill and got charged $4.50 for the side salad. Won't be back for a very long time. read more

I used to think this was a nice place until I realized the bartender I had last was padding my tab. When I closed out, he had drinks on there I never ordered. Plus the beers I did order, he charged me for twice as many as I had. (I ordered 3 beers and was charged for 7!) He even Decided to throw a couple shots on there too. Male bar tender working the new bar. Such a joke. Won't be going back there. Who wants to have to argue their tab or negotiate their bill. read more

The service was very good. The food was good, but very sparse. All entrees are served ala carte. Our bill for three people was over $100. We were still hungry when we left. For their high prices I would have hoped for bread or rolls, but no such luck! Would not suggest going unless for a Very special occasion. read more

I came here for lunch with a large group of coworkers, while in town. I was told (by my co-workers) I had to try the crab cakes. I'm not a huge fan of crab, so I got the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp were huge and were stuffed with PLENTY of crab imperial. The mac and cheese was amazing, along with shrimp. The portions are large and very tasty. The only thing I didn't like was that the waitress seemed to keep forgetting things (soups, drinks, etc.). Nonetheless, I definitely recommend trying. read more

Sat us but wanted to make sure we were going to be out in an hour... then we waited 10 min without ever being greeted by a waitress. We got some looks from waitresses but no one came to speak to us. I was quite surprised with some of the negative reviews, as I've had a consistently positive experience here over the course of several years. I like that they have a little something for everyone. If you want casual with tvs, you got it. You want formal and intimate? They got that too. The atmosphere of the several separate 'zones' within Michael's is warm and comfortable, with Baltimore nostalgia, dark wood, sports memorabilia, and soft dark tones highlighting the walls. The menu is to the point, high quality, and consistent. He had the steak and cake, one of the bet pairings you can find anywhere around, and she had the tuna wellington. Yeah, tuna-freaking wellington with pureed spinach, and foie gras. It was succulent. The menu and the specials aren't out to change gastronomy. They exist as delicious classic dishes with a few creative options here and there. The service is usually energetic and attentive, though the busboys can take their time clearing your finished tableware. (may be a bit nit picky, but I don't need an empty appetizer plate and used cocktail glass piling up while my entree is being served). We've had the weekend brunch as well, and it was flavorful and a great guilty indulgence of breakfast meats and cheeses, with strong brunch cocktails. Great food to work of a hangover. This is a fine spot if you're out in the county. It's more formal than The Still or Hightops, and has a bit more of the older crowd as well. read more

Michaels has been a go-to spot for me for the last 15 years, but the recent change of chefs has changed that choice. The menu has been reduced but not improved, the kitchen is clearly disorganized, and the overall value has declined significantly. Too bad after many years of great service, great menu selections, and great food. Change is usually good in a restaurant to keep things fresh and interesting, but this change hasn't worked out that way. read more

One of the people I was with ordered a salad with chicken and the chicken was mostly inedible due to gristle. (08/07/2011) Had a private function at Michael's for a mix of family and older friends. Food is Continental and was pretty much your standard banquet fare, not exciting, or original. The menu was crabcake or steak, salad, and a potato, and a scoop of melted ice cream for dessert. For the price, can only say it was not a lot of food, and it was only OK at that. Waitstaff was efficient, but were not all that friendly. Not sure it's such a great place for a large party, the table arrangement is probaby best for no more than a party of 12 or else you're divided into separate coves. Might one day go back to try the regular menu, but need to overcome an overwhelming amount of apathy I feel for the place. read more

Been here a few times over the past 6 years...it was a solid bar/pub restaurant until recent renovations....I agree with the other reviewer that now the portion sizes are severely limited..also, the sides are 'a la carte' which is a fancy way of saying you are getting nothing on the side with your entree except chips and a pickle unless if you pay extra, which really makes this joint very classy. This place seem to have spruced up cosmetically, but the quality of the food doesn't really live up to the pricing model. It is a solid 3 star restaurant that was ruined by the greed of the owners. For the prices I am paying, I'd rather go to Bluestone grille around the corner for much better seafood and classy entrees. read more

Have not visited Michaels for a long time due to many bad meals and bad service. Thought I would give it another shot. Bad move Salad was limp and warm. Macaroni and cheese was cold and soupy and there was an extra charge for this as a side. Why? Rest of meal was ok, certainly not great Waitress was argumentative as soon as we were seated. When requesting check mentioned that Mac and cheese was soupy and cold but I do not like to send food back as it is such a hassle. Also said I was not making a big deal out of it but she could mention it to chef Kept saying why did you not complain earlier. Repeated that I only wanted her to mention it to chef. Not a big deal Again argumentative and not caring. Guess I will stay away from Michaels again for a very long time read more

Good food. Pit pork was tasty. My son said the wings were the best he ever had. They sounded pretty crunchy. Overall not a bad place for a sunday lunch. I would recommend keeping the salads cold before serving, a bit limp. read more

The reviews at 3-3.5 stars are accurate. While the service and ambience are great, the food is just slightly better than average. I wouldn't say that they can compete, culinarily, with Bluestone or Christopher Daniel, but they still charge the same pricing. The crowd here is typically later in years. read more

I asked to sit in a specific place to accommodate my disability (even though I didn't disclose I had one), and they sat me in the perfect place. The crab cake was first rate, and the vegetables were plentiful, if a touch on the cool side. The oysters were fresh and succulent. The service person was sweet, helpful and attentive. I asked directions to a local golf course, and the manager had one of the kitchen staff who caddies there come give them to me. If in the Baltimore area, I would make a special trip to Michael's. read more

We made reservations for New Year's Eve at 10:00 for 8 people. We were seated instantly ( this has never happened anywhere on New Years!) We started with the crab/ shrimp dip which was Delicious!!! The calamari was average but had a great vinegary dipping sauce that gave it a great kick. Cream of crab was the best I have had in years. For entrees we ordered the New York strip, scallops, crab imperial, and crab cake. Scallops weren't the best but everything else amazing. Service was good and restaurant lovely.
