I went to the Timonium Restaurant to inquire about having a large special marriage proposal their with very close family and friends! The greeting was not welcoming and very unprofessional! The manager however was too busy to check with me or even tell me that he couldn't hold a conversation with at that time! I'm gonna assume! Because of the icy grounds from a outside pipe! I've been to this particular place in Timonium several times with my white as well as my black friends! And service was definitely different! I will never patronize again! Not! that it matters! to this one again! I will go to the White Mash site! And I know your saying you have some people of color working their! But I'm not gonna touch that one! At a times like this! If I owned or managed anything! I'm not letting no money go free! And yes we spend a lot of money! Because we like to eat and drink! And we most definitely take care of our waitress very well! Very Dissappointing! We have been going to Michaels for crab cake platters and their cream of crab soup for several years and have always enjoyed our meals....until today. We did carry out and the cream of crab soup was very, very salty with a very heavy overload of sherry, it tasted like a different recipe than what they usually serve, and not a good recipe. The crab cakes were pretty good but the cole slaw was old with a brown tinge, they gave us cocktail sauce when we asked for tarter. Last but not a deal breaker, very light on the fries, maybe half of what we usually would get at Michaels. Very surprised and dissapointed, we are ok spending 66.00 on lunch every once in awhile, if its really good, but we had regrets today, sad to say......... read more

Love the new spin on the old menu. The smoked salmon presentation is fabulous and we love the new tuna tartare (minus the egg, but that's a personal preference). We always have had very good service. Robin is our favorite. I can see why there are unhappy dinning room regulars with the new menu, we always eat at the bar and have enjoyed the new preparations and the new twists on old favorites. Michael's is an anchor. It's a restaurant where friendships are forged and memories are made. This is a rare find. When you have a local restaurant that seems to care about the surrounding community, you want to support it. Michael's is that place. The management has always supported local musicians. While most county establishments have given up on artists, Michael's has been there for everyone to have a good time and create good times. I wish Michael's continued success because this place deserves it. This is a restaurant with options. You can dine at the bar, listen to music, or sit in the formal dining room. One of my favorite experiences in the spring and summer is to sit outside at Michael's and eat seafood. If you wanna watch baseball or women's MMA, you can always sit near a TV. The restaurant is always clean. The bartenders and servers work hard. Some of the servers have worked there for years and that's always a good sign. Many locals know the servers by name. Consistency is key and, in my experience, Michael's offers quality food and reliable service. Michael's is an important restaurant with a heart, soul, cold beer, and steamed shrimp. My waitress was caring and energetic. We arrived during the last two hours of Sunday brunch. And it seemed that we paid for it, while the filet Benedict was great... it seemed that we got the end of the batch home fries in a small portion and cut very tiny to make stretch. We were informed by our waitress before ordering that they were all out of Bottomless Mimosa's. As well as steak sauce, I found out when my meal finally came . Waiting for our drinks from the bar took about 10minutes. (The resturant was bare, far from crowded). Oysters took 10 additional minutes. Food took 25-30min which I find quite long for brunch . Overall the food was great. But the availability of items during brunch, I cannot say I'm too favorable of. I do not feel that I got the true brunch experience that my friends raved about. Came here for 4th of July and it was very nice setting. They were a little disorganized as far as getting us sat and ordering but once the show started it was very nice. The food was good and I loved the entertainment that they had set up for the holiday. The drink special that they had that day was awesome as well. As far as the cleanness of the restaurant, it was very very clean and neat. The bathrooms were clean as well and felt like the area that we were seated had just been renovated. It was a little hard to get in the parking lot. I had to make a u-turn and then enter past the restaurant. In all I would love to go back again, food, ambiance and cleanliness was great. read more

First of all, there are not a lot of choices of food. I have to look at the menu 10x before I can choose something. Then we had friends come in from out of town. Large party so we even suggested splitting us to different tables. The place was EMPTY. We would only be here for 45min-1hr. They refused to sit us outside because "they didn't feel comfortable". Then they tried to give us a booth when they saw we had 2 little ones that needed high chairs.....which they wouldn't allow at booths. So we got attitude for that. But they saw us....with 2 little kids....why even suggest booth. Our server was super nice. Can't blame the hostess. The manager however, needs to learn a little more about the industry as well as helping people out. Had our experience been a good one, we would definately be back, but now, I'll find someplace else. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we walked out, we had a great experience. My husband had the Cream of Crab soup and loved every spoonful. He also had the wedge salad with steak (which was cooked as a perfect rare). I had the chef's catch of the day (Rockfish) with lemon butter and it was absolutely amazing. The fish was very tender and creamy and had just the right amount of butter and lemon. The broccolini was roasted to bring out the flavors but not too crispy or soggy. Friends and I had appetizers and drinks on the outdoor patio on Saturday, 9/5/15. Gill R. was our server (and has been several times prior). He is always super friendly and attentive. Both the food and service were great! Also, the patio is beautiful. Because of the high walls and pretty setting, it never feels like it's right on York Road. Other friends and I had dinner and drinks on the patio on Friday, 9/11/15. Jack S. was our server and he was as awesome as Gill! It took us a while to even look at the menu. Jack was patient and didn't make us feel rushed. Like Gill, he was friendly and attentive. He knew we were there celebrating my friend's birthday and, without being asked, he brought her a piece of cake with a candle. So thoughtful! The food and service were excellent, once again! I'm surprised no one has reviewed this place before, it's been here like 20 years. Anyway, went here today with a friend, it was really good. It doesn't look terribly exciting from outside but the inside is pretty tastefully done. We weren't really coming for the decor though, we were coming for the seafood. Michael's is famous for their crabcakes, so I went for the crabcake platter with french fries (the fries are SOOO good) and the house salad. The crabcake was really basically just crab, very little filler. You can get it fried or broiled, the waiter said broiled was best so I went for that. You can ether get one 5 oz. or two, or one 10 oz, and I just went for the one 5 oz... that along with the fries and salad was incredibly filling, I can't even imagine eating the 10 oz of crabcake. My friend had the shrimp salad wrap and the house salad and she was happy with hers as well. The one crab cake platter will set you back $16.5 and the shrimp wrap with chips and a house salad was $14.5. Most of the entree's seem to be in the $15-$30 range. Appetizers cost between $6 and $15. Sandwiches/burgers $6-$15 We were there at lunch so I'm not sure how it is at dinner, but our food came really quickly, less than 10 minutes after ordering. The food was good, service was good, the location and parking are convenient... I'd definitely come again. read more

Went here for dinner last night, had made a reservation for 545 earlier in the day. Entering the restaurant we were greeted warmly and quickly. The place was just starting to fill up for their Saturday evening crowd. Our waitress came around quick too to take drink orders and read the specials for the evening. After the drink orders was the last of the timely service.. I saw other tables getting baskets of bread while our waitress said they were cooking them in the oven and be patient, 15-20 min of patience we were finally brought only 2 pieces of bread for our three person party... she said she would bring more and never did. I ordered the california turkey club sandwich.. all I have to say is when eating it, something didnt taste right and I wish I never finished the whole thing to avoid getting sick later into the night. The burger was soggy and lazily put together. The sweet potato fries that came with it were super soggy as well...no love for the food being cooked or any attention to detail whatsoever. For a place with such low quality food I wonder why so many people come here to eat. .. over priced and super slow By the time we got our entrees over an hour had passed by sitting at our table. Avoid this place for your own health and if you want a decent meal rather than something tasting like it was microwaved and thrown on a plate. read more

Looking for a new place to have breakfast on Sunday morning instead of the usual places we go to. Michaels looked promising according to the Yelp reviews. We walked in to a pleasant looking atmosphere and was immediately greeted by the maître d. She asked how many and we said two. She walked us to our table. Before we sat down and as she was handing us our menus, she asked me if I had a sleeved collared shirt I could change into. I told her I did not. I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts. She told us we could not dine in the restaurant with what I had on, but we're welcome to dine on the outside patio. I looked at her and told her I did not see any notice as we walked in about a dress code for inside the restaurant. She told me there was not, that it was restaurant policy. And it's not like our clothes were in bad taste, or dirty. Now I understand most restaurants have a dress code policy such as "no shirt, no shoes, no service" and places of business have the right to refuse service to anyone. But these notices are clearly posted as you enter the restaurant. So my question to this establishment, was it my dress attire or something else? My wife and I are minorities, her of Hispanic descent and me of Asian decent. When I spoke to the manager, I asked her where the dress code policy was posted, she said there was not one, it was just their policy. I guess it supposed to be presumed by all customers that all men should wear a collared shirt when dining at Michaels café. I talked to the manager and told her I would be writing this review to inform all Yelpers how we were treated. We won't be going back to that restaurant ever! I don't assume anything especially if I don't know. There should have been a sign posted clearly for customers to see about their dress policy and don't act like your going to sit someone if you aren't going to. Stop them at the door and point to the dress code policy sign if the customer is not dress appropriately. read more

Went here yesterday for a lunch meeting. The ambiance of the restaurant was excellent- dark woods & crisp white table cloths. We were seated immediately and the waitress was very friendly but that is where the good service ended. Our drinks sat empty more time than they were filled. The food however was great! I got the split level soup- half Maryland crab & half cream of crab. I wanted to get it again for dinner!! I also ordered the crab cake sandwich which came with chips & a pickle. All the chips were crushed into little pieces. Overall the experience was good. I would go back for the soup & to check out the raw bar but hopefully I would get a different waitress. read more

Don't come here on holidays. Michael's is great for easygoing fare like their seafood club sandwich. Unfortunately, we came here on Valentine's day. They had a very limited menu with limited appeal, and the prices were eye watering. If I wanted to spend $50 on a steak, I'd go to Benjamin in NYC and get a much better one. They refused to make a crab cake sandwich, probably to force people to go with the crab cake platter. Although they weren't listed on the menu, they were willing to get people soup. They were selling an awful lot of soup. We will continue to come here on regular Saturday nights, but you can do much better for the price on Valentine's. read more

I have been frequenting Michael's pretty often and have always been very happy with the food and the service and the whole vibe in general. The new addition and outside bar make it the only place to go in Towson. This is the first review I have ever left and I feel like I needed to. My 83 year old Father, Mother In Law, my Wife and I went to dinner on Tuesday night. My Dad and I split a dozen oysters which were fantastic, I know you cant mess those up and my Wife and Mother in Law had the crab and shrimp dip appetizer which was out of this world. We also had a greek salad that was fantastic. For my entrée I ordered the New York Strip, now the steaks at Michael's are as good as you will find anywhere and I mean anywhere and it didn't disappoint. My Dad ordered the stuffed rockfish which was fantastic. Now this is business as usual but the reason I am leaving the review is because Maureen, our server, made the whole night a truly great experience. She catered to my Dad, who can be a little gruff and hard to please and not one time did I feel like we needed anything. She was friendly, efficient, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She boxed up my Dad's salad and even threw an extra roll in because she knew how much he liked them. My Dad couldn't stop talking about how great it was and that makes me feel great since he doesn't get out too much. read more

My grandsons, son-in-law and I went there Sat 10/2. Word of warning, never go there near shift change! The hostess sat us and we just sat for about 10 min until a waitress rushed up to us and asked if we had been helped. She went to get our drinks and another waitress rushed up. We told the second waitress that someone else was getting our drinks. She said she was our waitress, it was shift change and no one told her we were here. We sat at 3:45 and they gave us lunch menus. By the time the second waitress came she wanted to give us dinner menus, but we had already decided what we wanted so she took the order from the lunch menu. Apparently the change for menus and service is 4 pm. The food for the most part was delicious. I was disappointed with the wine, it was the smallest pour I have ever had in a restaurant!! If I go back, it will be a mixed drink and not wine. They have very tall wine glasses, which makes the pour look even smaller. The lobster roll was fabulous, the hamburger big and juicy. a BLT that was loaded with bacon, a large crabcake ! We had fried green tomatoes and steak tartar as apps, and they were great. However the rice pudding came out as rice soup. The bowls were very cold but the pudding (soup) was warm. It probably wasn't ready yet and they were trying to chill 2 bowls and pass it off. However my grandson said the berger cookie sundae was great! The waitress cleaned our app plates, took my silverware and never returned with anymore, so I took some from next table. It took forever to get our desserts (maybe because they were trying to chill the rice pudding). My son-in-law drank his rice pudding but I sent mine back. I asked her to take one pudding off and we would take out check. She returned with check (the fastest service we got from her), however the pudding was still on the check. I flagged her down and showed her the error. She came back and had taken both off, which was nice. I thanked her and paid. I am a 20% tipper, but only tipped 10%. The restaurant was NOT busy, the service was terrible. The food, for the most part, was very good. We will go back again, but not at shift change, and hope for a different waitress. We were here for brunch. We had a mid-morning reservation, but didn't really need one. We had the creme brulee french toast with bourbon syrup and bacon and the Chesapeake benedict with "ultimate potatoes." The french toast was superb, and quite large for french toast, and the benedict was prepared perfectly. The sides weren't as impressive. The bacon was almost bland, an impressive feat for bacon and probably a supplier issue rather than a prep one. The potatoes really were quite good, but I would have hoped for "ultimate" potatoes to be a little crispier. The coffee was also brewed a bit weak for my taste. Service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and accurate. Time between visits was perfect as well, no waiting to speak of between finishing our meal and being offered dessert and then the check. I'm sure this was helped by the relatively small crowd, but still, impressive. Decent brunch in the suburbs, sides could use more attention. Given the option, I would have liked a menu option for the "all-in-one" plate that's so common on brunch menus (eggs, potatoes, toast, meat, or a similar combination). read more

Ate here for the first time since the renovations were completed. The patio seating area is very nice - with lounge seats, dining tables, high top tables, and a bar. Brunch was fantastic, with a great selection of menu items. Corned beef hash was REAL corned beef, served in a mini cast iron. Fried green tomato eggs benedict was likely the best eggs benedict I've ever had. With gruyere and good sized chunks of crab meat - a perfect brunch alongside my bloody mary. Was there for mother days brunch. Service was solid. Seated right away. The food. Oysters in raw bar chilled and great taste. Steamed shrimp was over cooked, and hard to peel. They ran out of prime rib for a period of time about 30 mins. The deserts were out of a box. All other stations the food was good. Free mimosas for the ladies 95 percent orange juice. $30 a plate I would expect food to be better that what was put out. This establishment is known for good food, but pricey. Been coming here with my aunt on the weekends usually mid to late afternoon. We always sit out on the patio. Michael's is a very dog friendly place and even has water bowls for dogs at the bar. Morris has even come to know some of the regulars. We have ordered a variety of items, mostly seafood 1) Lobster Crab Cake Platter 2) Asian Ahi Tuna 3) Buffalo Wings 4) Soft Shelled Crab Platter 5) Various Fresh Catch of the Day 6) Maryland Crab Soup The lobster and crab cake is a nice combination that I do not often see on menus. Occasionally it has been served a bit dry but usually it is moist and flavorful. The platters come with two sides. My aunt loves the broccolini. French fries are usually pretty good here too. The buffalo wings are consistently good and of a decent size. Sauce is basic without too much heat. My aunt who is a 93 year veteran of Baltimore swears that the soft shelled crab she had here was the largest one she has ever eaten. Whether that is true or not I can't say but she did thoroughly enjoy it and still talks about it. The fresh catch of the day is usually pretty good. I have had good luck with blackened red drum and blackened mahi. Not so much with the grilled rockfish. And usually I think the portions are on the small size for the price. Ahi Tuna was fresh the time I ordered it. Service has always been friendly and attentive out on the patio. Not even sure what the inside looks like. Parking is easy.
