This Michaels is a little bit farther from my house, but I have been a handful of times because I'm over in the area for something else, or they might have an item that the Michaels near my house doesn't have. This specific store is always near neat and well put together. The staff are friendly and helpful, the parking lot is humungous, so even on busy days and at busy times, you'll always be able to find a spot. It's also great because there are so many shops in there, you can go grocery shopping, have dinner and then dessert after you go craft shopping at Michaels! But about Michaels, the store in itself--I started going to Michaels when I was about 10 years old because I liked to do artsy stuff. I can't believe how well their business is doing so many years later! Well, I can believe it actually. The reason (I believe) is they keep their prices super reasonable. Not only are their prices low on a daily basis, but they almost always have a coupon for 40% off one item, or 25% off non sale items, etc. You just have to sign on to their website and find the coupons. You can pretty much find anything you need for any art or craft project here. I sometimes just wander the aisles trying to find something that inspires me, which can make for a long visit. But if you know what you want, you can be in and out pretty quickly. I highly recommend Michaels and also you should sign up for their rewards program, it has its advantages (like mailed coupons and they keep a record of your purchases through the rewards account so you can return through this instead of bringing in the receipt) and virtually no disadvantages! Customer service is important to me and its hit and miss here. Sometimes the employees are friendly and other times they are not, but its never consistent. This one is closest to my house, but I think the one in Union city is a little bigger or it at least feels that way. I love crafts so I'll continue to go here. I came here to get some supplies for some homemade Christmas cards. To my surprise, the parking lot and the store itself were packed. I guess that's what I get for making Christmas cards two days before the actual day. Michael's is conveniently located at Fremont Hub and it happened to be super close to me, so yay! I love arts and crafts so Michael's definitely the store to go to for me. They have so many selections and varieties in terms of construction paper, ribbons, stickers, scrapbook paper, tools, and so much more. I do a lot of the simple crafting so the simple things are good enough for me. First of all, the store is pretty big in my opinion. It is a little messy but I don't really mind that and it is the holiday season. I was able to find what I needed, with the help of several staff members because I was tired of circling back and forth to find things I needed for those cards. The line was a little long but it moved quickly since people didn't buy that much. So that was fine. I definitely enjoy my time shopping here and I will be back! I have often shopped at Michael's and I like the products, though the check-out line has been pretty long the last several times I've shopped there. Yesterday I picked-up the painting Michael's framed for me. I waited at least 30 minutes to be waited on. The framing turned out just fine. I'm satisfied with the work and the framed picture. I brought the picture in on February 28. It did take longer than the estimated complete date of March 4. Michael's called me on the evening of March 23, so it was nearly two weeks late. I guess I was lucky because the two people ahead of me in line told me that they had their projects redone. For one it had been six months. But that's heresay. I know of no other place to have a picture framed, so I recommend Michael's. read more

This review is for the employee who help me and my girlfriend this evening (12/01/2015). Sadly, we don't remember his name but know he teaches an Arts and Craft class, has a very impressive beard and was hired only a few days ago! My girlfriend was given a last minute project at work today and it needs to be completed tomorrow. We had a rough idea on what we were going to do but needed some questions answered about the type of glue best for styrofoam. This gentleman lead us to the adhesive section and discussed the options we had. He asked about the project and he actually listened! Rare from a retail employee. He then suggested simple Elmer's Glue but use wooden toggles to keep the styrofoam in place while it dried. All this mans advice and knowledge was extremely helpful and very friendly with a warm smile. In conclusion, the Fremont Michaels store is a good store. Well lit, decently clean and good selection of various arts and craft items. However, this bearded hero is what makes this store shine for me and my girlfriend. Thanks man!!! read more

This review is mostly a shout out to Lynn, who came to my assistance when I was wandering around looking lost. I love being crafty... it's super fun! AND Being a teacher I rely a lot on Michael's. They have everything you could possibly need for almost everything! I baked a cake for my students, and they had everything for the cake. I made a Christmas project for my students to do and they had the beads and foam sheets, I needed. I was decorating my apartment, and they had super cute vases, sand, rocks, and candles. -1 Star, because it's never organized and sometimes it's hard to find what I need. But, I find that that's true for most of the Michael's stores I've been to. read more

I love the fact that it offers so many craft supplies, but this store is always frustrating because there always seems to be a ridiculously long line and only one cashier. When you plan your time to run errands and go to Michael's, waiting in line for more than 30 minutes to buy a few craft items is not acceptable. I came here to get some anti-UV glass for an existing 18x14 picture frame. They had a special going (plus I had a coupon), so the glass was "only" $20. Unfortunately, they cut it too short, which I didn't discover until I got home. So it was back to Michaels. They were happy to cut another piece of glass, and this time we both double checked it. Everyone was polite and helpful, but having to make a return trip to the store due to their error was pretty annoying. And the first time I was there, it took nearly 10 minutes before someone arrived at the framing counter to help me (it seems the framing-person was on break). Michaels can be a handy store for framing and crafts, and I have found some good deals here, especially around the holidays. But they also have a lot of junky Chinese imports, and they seem to be chronically short of employees (and half of the employees you do find don't know where things are). Terrible customer service and quality of final product. First, Andrew takes our order for framing a large (30x40) picture for our living room. SIMPLE order,,,we wanted to just replace the old picture with a new one on an existing frame! Great guy to talk to...good customer interaction skills for the moment. He prints out a receipt that says delivery in 13 days. We were shocked to say the least. When asked, he said, don't worry about that date...we just put it there for safety sake, but you will get your framed picture in 2 days. We will call you, if not, just come in 2-3 days and it will be ready. No call for 3-4 days. So I go in. Meet a junior associate (don't remember the name) who says the picture might be ready but my boss has not told me that it is ready to be picked up. Associate said they would ensure that someone would call me in 2 days. No one does. Now it's 7 days since the picture was in for changing a picture in an existing frame. No one is taking responsibility. Finally, on the 7th day I get across to a lady (Christina), who sounds like she knows what she is talking about...but she says she has no idea who promised me the frame in 2-3 days. I had some harsh words with her, but she called the very next day to say the frame was ready to be picked up. She was really nice in person. The culprits were Andrew and the other associate, who both never told her about the deadlines nor did they enter it in the system. Quality of the final product...well...lots of dents and folds on the picture...was not handled with care at all. The photo cost a lot of money to print. Sad. read more

I really like this location. I always know where everything is and their prices seem to be a bit lower than Jo Ann's. I've gotten everything from floral stuff to cake stuff to jewelry stuff. I've purchased virtually all of my freezer paper screen printing supplies here and always at a good price. They even often have deals on blank t-shirts of okay quality. The store is organized well, but I do have to say that the huge floral section in the middle makes things annoying. To get to most stuff you need to go all the way to the back of the store because of the floral area. My only gripes with this store are: 1. They used to carry single inking pens for manga/comic book art and now they only sell sets. In addition to that their inking selection is very small. Jo Ann's is small too, but I found a great set for a good price there while Michael's only had 2 that were what I wanted and more expensive. 2. The lines. They only have a few registers and yet only one ever seems to be open. This means you're often stuck in a "line". Everyone just kind of lines up in a row of silk flowers because there is no space for an actual line. The service is usually fine. It ranges from someone incredibly bored and silent to someone who compliments your shoes (true story!). Both of these gripes are small so I'll only dock them one star. I really like this location so I recommend it. read more

The whole store is eye candy because so much of their stuff is colorful, green, lovely to look at. Thank you Fremont location. I just had an Absolutely horrible experience with the Dublin location. I just called Dublin location 3 times. I was hung up on 2 of those times and the last time the store rep kept me on hold for 10 minutes and I even gave the the product number which I thought would help. The dublin location employees i spoke to today lack customer service skills. While I am writing this review the Fremont location took my call. I was greeted AND welcomed by a young man (with a magnificent beard), busy stocking shelves, however, took the time to welcome me. This is my 8th order I have recently made in the framing Dept and from manager Amanda to Maryisol, Issac and Eric I believe you have a great and well trained crew, don't lose them! And of course the front staff manning the cashiers there is always a smile and a big thank you from the likes of Anu (and of course Miss Kace who is always busy helping customers and making our visits there so pleasant . I worked with both Amanda and Isaac on two different projects. Isaac helped with my two comic art pieces and Amanda helped pick matte colors for our living room piece. You guys have pathetic service. I ordered a small pack of artist loft paints online @1:30pm. I entered the store around 3:00 just to check if order was ready. This white lady very sweetly says I was just going to gather the online orders. The lady went away and kept roaming around the aisles from last 20-30 mins. I even got email stating my online order is ready @3:30. When I asked the checkout counter about my order, this staff member starts calling somebody to check. This white lady came back with my order and reprimands me for bothering them . Really lady weren't you the one who talked to me very sweetly in the beginning n kept me waiting for another 30 minutes and then you had the audacity to blame me. I could have literally picked n bought those paints from aisle and gone within mins from the store. I have had enough with Michaels,the one on argonaut, Fremont. No doubt people go to Amazon . Last week I was at Michaels, it was pretty busy and the check out line was long, but moving pretty fast. While shopping I did not notice Geena on the floor so I thought she was on her day off, but I was wrong, she was one of the checkers. She checked me out as the next turnover was mine and falls on her counter, counter no. 3. At first, she did not notice me but soon as she did she went ecstatic. As a serious artist, it is harder and harder to find a decent store that sells art supplies for illustration and the like. Michael's in one of the few stores in the area you might be able to find some Winsor & Newton paints, but it's not worth the trip. While yes, you may find some colored inks or brushes for that next painting of yours; the boxes will probably be open, it will be mis-labeled, unorganized and the ink will probably be spilling over the side of the 'new' ink bottle they're selling you at full price. I've been to both locations in the area, and both times the shelves were a mess in the art department. Things are strewn about slovenly, labels are either missing or unreadable, and half of the art supplies are just in bad shape. I'm not going to pay money for a box of ink when the box--and the bottle--are already opened. The same goes for all of their supplies. Oil paints have paint seeping out of the cap, brushes have stray hairs, pencils are broken, etc. The people at Michael's do not care at all about their art supplies. Don't waste your time if you need a legit art store--go to Blick instead. read more

I just went there last nite because the hubby needed some yarn for a field project he was working on. Yeah, I haven't stopped laughing about the fact that he was yarn shopping either. Anyhow, this location is in a great spot; close to Safeway and the Fremont Hub. Parking is a bit of a headache, but nothing to honk your horns over like I've seen and heard soooo many people do. This location has a great selection of everything we need, especially for me and the baking stuff-hello? I can get rolled fondant here? And candy molds? AND little cake boxes that I can personalize? And, well you know the list goes on and on. So, why the less than perfect rating? Because last nite, I felt like Michael's should've been paying me a small salary for all the cleaning up I was doing walking behing people or walking up and down aisles that people just left. That's right, I'm one of those people. I cannot, absoulutely CANNOT stand when people are looking at something, and put it back and then ten million things fall over or off the shelf and then they just leave it be. This is not your home, your mother does not live here, PICK IT UP!!!!!!!!! I understand that you don't work there, it's not your responsibility, but have some common decency! I also "love" how when they see it fall, they just look at it like, Duh, what do I do now??? I also take it upon myself to pick it up because hey, what if someone doesn't see it and trips or falls? I had my daughter's Birthday Party there. The craft supplies were not prepared. Kids had to wait for long while the staff got materials from the store. Then, they started to draw thing for cutting. It took forever. One of the staff didn't know how to draw a star. The party theme I picked included crafting 4 different kinds of items. However, becuase of time limit, kids finished only 3 items. Huge, big, love Michaels. I come here sometimes to get beads to make kandi for EDM concerts and shows. They have a great selection of beads and string to choose from, so you won't be disappointed. This past weekend, I had to get a bunch of supplies for Thanksgiving food tags and I found everything I needed. Giving this 4 stars and not 5 because the prices lie. There were cheaper prices listed in the aisles and when I went up to the front, they scanned for higher. It took me 15 minutes at the cash register because the woman walked back to each respective aisle to check the real price for each item, and she found out I was right. They were nice and adjusted the prices, but it was a hassle. I recommend paying attention to the cash register price that shows up. This review is for the Michales birthday parties. I had my daughters' 5th birthday party there this year and it was awesome! I chose the option where an attendant helps with four predetermined crafts. We bring the food and any decorations that we want. It was simple, fun and creative. The attendant stayed the entire time and helped us with the crafts. I also chose to add in face painting, for a minimal cost, which the kids loved! The attendant was especially helpful and accommodating. She seemed to enjoy the process, not just getting the job done, and she was very sweet to all of the kids. She went above and beyond, in making a few slight changes and even hunting down a lighter, as I forgot to bring something to light my daughter's candle! Another attendant came, who was equally accommodating. Leading up to the party was smooth as well. I payed ahead of time, and they were helpful with any questions I had and any changes I wanted to make. They even had a small gift table added in, on my request. Thank you Michaels! read more

I returned an item with a receipt older than 60 days. I was told that I would get a 'merchandise credit'. -Fine - Then I was told that since the receipt was older than 60 days, "it was not a receipt anymore", so I would loose 20%, and the cashier needed a manage to approve. The manager came and said that they would not take the 20 % off my refund 'for this time'. This was a $ 7 item, so it did not matter much whatever. However, from the backside of your receipts it sure isn't clear that there is going to be a 20% deduction if you have a receipt, in fact it only mentions 20 % in connection with NO receipt. I must conclude that the cashier and her manager were wrong.They said that the -20% has been in practice for several years. (2nd thing: This store is generally not very well managed. I was looking to buy an item (was only one on the shelf) but found a part missing, which I told a store person. I later found that the box had just been put back on the shelf. This happened twice! 3rd thing It took them forever to organize the line leading up to checkout. I told them several times that people were confused, not knowing if it was a single-line or a line per cashier, and it was really irritating.) read more

Don't go here for framing. It is WAY overpriced. They'll quote you a "regular" price that costs as much as a decent used car, and then quote you a "sale" price to make it sound more reasonable. Great items. Nice classes. Coupons in the Sunday paper. Some of the folks that work there are rude & lazy. They don't like to answer questions or help you look for items. One example: "What is your return policy?" Response: "Read it, it's in the back of your receipt" (annoyed tone of voice, as if I'd asked a stupid question). One other time there were 3 cashiers carrying on an argument about missing supplies in the supply room in front of countless of customers. read more

Kudos to Eric in custom framing for customer service! My mom and I were shopping for poster frames. She asked him for his expert advice. He found an off-the-shelf option that complimented our drawings and met our budget. Mom pulled her little-old-lady-card by asking him to put the pictures in the frames for her. He did a beautiful job. He could have helped other customers waiting for custom framing but instead called a colleague to help and was incredible kind and helpful.
