Pretty big and organized Michaels! They have great organized bins for clearance even! It's not perfect but they have ranges of a couple bucks and up, labeled and in a little corner with mostly clearance tag labeled items. There is a friendly young man cashier that sounds very southern. Great energy and so nice. Funny too. I like the tables they have for the Make Break activities. Small tables at the end of an aisle in a little clearing. Smart spot to put it. I also like the pin pads for the self checkout! You scan everything yourself and go. I had an issue because I was using a RETURN gift card and not a standard gift card so I had to go with the cashier anyway. No biggie. Scanning and even bagging my items (before I actually tried to pay) was very easy and you can see your little picture on the screen, from the camera. So cool! The one weird thing...is you can not see where Michaels is, due to the trees in the front! So Flippen weird because I'm unsure if it's due to the city ordinances, or it's overgrown due to staffing, or they're not allowed because of the property manager or what! But it is so weird. The Huntington Beach Michaels used to be a great store for crafting supplies but not anymore. It will no longer be my go-to store for cardstock, crafts, etc. There is a minimum amount of cardstock without any real selection, pricing has increased, and the area is a mess. If you have a question about a product or locating an item, it's impossible to find someone to help. Forget customer service at the registers, there isn't any! You must use the self-checkout. I was in the store yesterday and since my purchase was only a couple of dollars I wanted to pay cash. I was told one of the self-checkouts accepted cash - however it wasn't working correctly, so I had to use a card. I asked the young woman why she couldn't process my purchase at a register and was told according to corporate only self-checkouts are to be used. She apologized but was only following her employer's rules. I have no problem using a self-checkout, they can be convenient however if I want to pay by cash and the "cash" checkout isn't working then an employee should be able to process the transaction at a register. From now on, I'll shop down the street where customer service and selections are a priority. read more

I really, really don't want to give them a bad review. They are one of very few craft stores around, and I love being able to touch and see things in person. This location maybe...4-5 years ago? Awesome. The last few years it took a nose dive. I avoided doing a review before now in the hopes they would have improved, but alas, they have not. There's still two slightly older gals working there who are amazing and always nice. Pros: They have craft stuff, need I say more? Cons: staff is pretty much always rude. Understaffed pretty much all the time The younger ones take ZERO pride in their appearance, and always look and act like angst-ridden teens who are bored with nearly every facet of life. Quite a few things out of stock (prior to Covid excuses btw) Carrying less and less of certain items If you dare ask a question, they either don't know and won't bother finding someone who does, or they are extremely rude in their response. Prices keep going up on floral and certain craft items. I've been to other Michael's and it seems to be a problem across the board, unfortunately. When you have places like Hobby Lobby, where most of the employees are wonderful, and they are always well stocked, (or Amazon and you don't have to leave the house or deal with shitty people at all?) why bother going to a craft store where the employees obviously can't be bothered to be nice and look presentable? I get dealing with rude customers can be trying on your patience, i do (I worked retail when I was younger, it sucks) but when that bad attitude is all the time it's obviously not just one bad day, it's the employee, and they shouldn't be working around people. Maybe a nice job in a cubicle filling out TPS reports would work out better? In short, their employees need to be fucking nicer and at least act like they enjoy working at a fun, creative craft store. If the work is that distasteful to them, then they should find another form of employment. I want my Michael's back the way it used to be. Everyone smiling, most of them were happy and helpful. I have some limited edition James Jean prints that have been sitting in their packaging for years (one as old as 2014.) Eric was so amazing! We had 4 prints that needed framing and he took the time to really help us pick out the right frames and mat/color combinations for the pieces we brought in. There was a constant flow of customers. He knew just when to take a couple minutes to attend to the others (while we were pulling out the next piece, etc) and immediately refocused to help us when we were ready again. He was so polite, helpful and professional! Most importantly his expertise and eye in helping us pick out the right frames that fit our budget and the look of the pieces. i went in looking for a specific yarn, i was only able to find one. i couldn't find anyone working on the sales floor so i went to the front and the girl at the register scanned the yarn and said they should have 4. i asked if she could tell me where to look for them because i could only find the one, would they be in the bins below the fixtures? am i even allowed to look there? and she told me i could look in the bins myself and find the other three. pretty rude but i couldn't find anyone other than her so maybe they're short staffed. i went back to the yarn and started to look in the bins and an older woman working there asked in a rude tone if she could help me find something. i told her the girl at the front told me i could look in the bins to find the yarn i wanted and she cut me off and said "she would never say that" then she scanned the yarn i was looking for and said that there were none in the bins and that they should all be out. i looked all over the yarn section for at least 20 minutes and couldn't find them so clearly they must be backstocked! everyone that works here is always so unhelpful and acts like i'm bothering them when i need help. read more

We've had a lot of custom framing done over the years when Aaron Brothers was in business. When Michael's took over, we trusted them with some high-end projects and were not disappointed. Today I walked into the Huntington Beach store, disappointed not to see the usual ladies that have been helpful before. Only "Isaac" was there assisting a woman who was "nickel-and dimming" him over a poster sized frame project. He let me stand there for over 20 minutes after first greeting me briefly and then completely ignoring me, not making eye contact or offering to have someone else help me. I knew from overhearing the conversation she was not serious but I finally had to leave the store. I'm taking our future projects elsewhere and I suggest you transfer "Isaac" from the custom framing to the warehouse where he does not have to deal with the money-spending public. read more

Horrible customer service. Before ordering something online for in-store pick up I called to see if what I wanted was singular or a set since it wasn't specified. Halfway through asking my question I get interrupted by the music of being placed on hold. Nice. I place my order and when I go to pick up, it's a completely different item. Had a return today , had my receipt showing I paid cash. The cashier I got asked how I paid. Her name was Esmeralda, she mumbles and has the personality of a rock. She ask me if she could put in on my card cause she didn't have enough cash, I said no because I paid cash so I want cash....it was only $60.00. She sent me to another register where that cashier said she didn't have that much. Esmeralda told her to just find the money and give it to me. Guess what...she had enough money. Then I see the wonderful Esmeralda putting the items I returned back out for sale. No one asked me why I was returning them , maybe there was something wrong with them. This was the second time I brought in a treasured piece of art to have custom framed. Diane was so helpful, and has a wonderful eye for picking out frames, mats and matching colors. She is also friendly and super helpful. I bring my art pieces in when they have their 70% off! Custom framing, sale. This store isn't the best they don't have a huge selection especially if you are into the textile arts like sewing. Their sewing aisle is one small wall with very limited items i went in a couple weeks ago to buy some elastic they only had one size of elastics and it was hard to find. I went in again today as I am trying to finish a project and needed buttons and it was the biggest waste of time and gas. The section of button was so small i was shocked walmart has more options and colors they only have around 6 total types of buttons and they were only two colors either black or white! Very disappointing as they got rid of the joann's that's was in this area and at first i didn't think it would be a big deal but this michaels just isn't equip for someone who sews. read more

Dear lord, don't do curbside pickup at this store because if the store is currently busy, they'll take your call but pretty much ignore you after, especially if all the curbside pickup spots are taken and they tell you to park somewhere near the front. I had to call in THREE TIMES! The third time was after 20 minutes of waiting. After that long, the curbside spots were free and I think that was their plan all along... ignore the customer until a curbside spot is free and then they can park there. It doesn't matter how many times they call and how long they wait. And the reason why the curbside spots aren't free is because they don't monitor it and random people park there to go out and shop. So after calling a third time and finding a spot. They weren't even on it until an associate saw me from the store window waiting and walked out and asked me! In the end, I waited 24 minutes just to call in and get curbside pickup. Ridiculous. Dear lord, please don't advertise curbside pickup as a marketing advantage if you don't know how to properly implement it. read more

I called the store on 10/23/2020 around 10:15AM and a male employee picked up the phone. I asked him if he could find a planner for me and he directed me to use the website instead. I proceed to tell him I didn't want to come into the store and not find what I was looking for so he told me, "well we have like 1,000 planners" I gave a confused "oh?" Then he proceeds to tell me, "yeah honestly there's like a million things in this store." Excuses to not go look for my item due to laziness or inexperience. Whatever it was, he's definitely should not be picking up the phone. I called the Santa Ana location after and they immediately sent someone on the floor to search for my item. Even though on the Santa Ana's location's website said that they had my item, when the employee checked they were out of stock. I checked on my phone (put Michaels in my maps app and it tells hours) and nowhere did it say that the store was closed to customers, but that online ordering was allowed with curb pickup. So instead of ordering from Amazon like I knew I ought to, I got in the car and drove to the store. Big. Fat. Mistake. Because it is not possible to leave a review with 0 (ZERO) stars, I had to give them one. They deserve none. I've never been crazy about Michaels anyway, but with it being more or less convenient, I go there. No more. Just ordered from Amazon and from Blick and both have much better prices all the time. Just so you know, I've never done a bad review on Yelp, only 5 star reviews; but this has pissed me off so badly, I had to let people know what they may be in for after the store opens again for business. read more

I want to share with you the tremendous customer support, care, and professionalism by the Framing Department. In October 2019 I had a custom frame made for a very large print - it was roughly $500 to frame but the framing work turned out spectacular. Due to the size of the frame, over the past year, the sheer weight of the frame and the location of the hanging wire put stress on the corners of the frame and it started to pull apart. I recently noticed this and called the Framing Department and spoke with the Manager, Eric, and he was incredibly supportive - said to bring in the frame. They replaced the frame in its entirety and installed new hanging system. There is no question, the service Eric provided makes me want to find more projects to bring to Michael's for the framing service, the quality of the product, and the overall experience. I came here last weekend and was pleasantly surprised! I have only been to one other Michaels before and it felt so closed in. But this one was spacious and had a lot of great looking products! I didn't know much about the store, but the employee Angelina walked me around the store and showed me where I could find certain things. "I will not check inventory for you, it is not worth my time. How much did you even pay for that item?" "You are not my customer, so I don't care." I was literally told this at this store by the manager of this store. His name is Matt, or at least that is what he told me. To start, I came to this store to buy 2 items that are on clearance. I saw them behind the counter and asked to buy them. The cashier called the manager to let him know I wanted to buy these items. The manager told her that it is not for sale. I asked her why. She called the manager again and he told her it was on hold for another customer. I was fine with that. My wife then came over with one of the 2 items that she found it in the aisle. The box was a little beat up so I asked if I can at least switch the boxes since I'm here already. The manager finally came over and told me the item behind the counter were already sold to another and they already paid for it so it cannot be switched. I said that is fine too and he walked away. I then asked if they can check inventory for the items for me. One of the cashiers came over and said they don't have the tool to check. I then asked if there was someone in the store that can check? She said the store just doesn't have the tool for it. (Either she is lying or Michael's might need to upgrade their system.) Now to the juicy part of the story. I walked over to Matt(the manager) and asked him if he can check inventory on the item for me. He was blunter than the cashier. He said, "I will not check inventory for you, it is not worth my time. How much did you even pay for that item?" I was shocked and said wtf why are you being a d**k. I know I shouldn't have said that, but I was just so surprised by what he said. He then responded saying, "You are not my customer, so I don't care." The funny thing is I am literally in the store and just bought an item... I know what he meant though. He was just stereotyping me as a cheap person and generally don't spend money in the store. While I am on the cheap side, I do go to Michaels once every other month and most of the time it is not for clearance items. I then said, "a*****e" cause I literally don't know how to respond to such a situation. Never had this type of service in any place I've been to. I've had bad service and been judged before, but never have I ever been talked to like that. He then responded to me saying, "You're only saying that to me in the store, you would dare say that to me in the street." He was pretty much threatening me at this point. But he is right, I wouldn't say that to him in the streets cause I would never ask a random person to check inventory for me at a store to start with. I only asked him because he WORKS at the store I'm shopping at. After I left the store, I called corporate to file a complaint. I am not sure where that will land, so I want to post it here as well. While I was on the call with corporate, I asked them to check the inventory at this store on 1 of the items I wanted, just to see if he is lying. The person over the phone said they have plenty in stock at this specific store. I don't know if he is holding the items for himself or what is going on, but he clearly was lying throughout our conversation. read more

When the what-seems-like-a-middle-aged-baby-boomer woman behind the counter picked up the product I tried to return, she made a snarky comment, claiming that "it seems like its been used". First of all, what good will it do for you to make that statement? Is it perhaps your lack of filter prohibits it you from keeping personal thoughts to yourself? Will your claim somehow miraculously convince me to take the product back and apologize to you for "lying"? Prior to this return, I even went out of my way to go back and compared what I bought to the same merchandises to compare and see if I can switch if for a different similar merchandise. Don't believe me Michael's management? Go ahead and review your security footage today on Wednesday 1/8/20 at 6:58 PM in the flower vase filling beads aisle. Why would I have tampered with the product at home for? It was just plastid beads. Dear Snarky Person, will my "used merchandise" have so much impact on you that it could potentially alter your salary or quality of life? If so by all means, scrutinize my returned item with a sharp eye. If not, I would suggest you to just accept the return because the chances for Michaels to potentially lose $4 in used merchandise and significantly impact it corporation's financial status in any way is slim to none. Due to this employee's poor customer service skills, which to some extent is a reflection of Michael's customer service, I will be bringing my business to Mr. Jeff Bezos's Amazon instead. I came here for craft supplies to create decorations for my wedding next month, the entire time I was there I heard a lady hacking and coughing while I was parusing the Christmas ribbon section. I found her while searching for Styrofoam balls and she was unmasked and coughing into her hand while handling merchandise. No one from Michael's spoke to her in the 15-20 minutes I was there. They have no regard for my health and safety so they clearly don't need my money for the ribbons I had grabbed, so I returned them and left. I'll be finding another craft store. read more

I love Michael's cause I am a crafter (knitting) and when I started knitting, I got my first needles and yarn from a Michael's. Although it's a little messy (to be fair, crafters are messy hehe) but it's easy to navigate and if you have enough time, get lost in the store exploring. I snagged a yarn that was on clearance and it was absolutely beautiful so it was a win-win for me. I know people say that customer service is terrible but honestly, let people live and as long as they don't bother me and do what they need to do, it's all good in my book. The other when I signed up for a class, brought all my stuff from the check-list provided and ended up not needing any of it and not getting taught what I signed up to learn that evening. Not too bad I suppose. Plus the cash registers are always friendly.
