This is my first time giving a one-star review. So please enjoy. I live near Michael's Kitchen and have never tried it before but always wanted to. So when my friend and I went Saturday morning we were expectations because it was very busy and it seemed to be the place to be and since it was busy that should be a sign that the food is good and the service is good too. I honestly cannot remember when I had because my rage was so blinding due to the WORST service I've ever experienced in my life. Let me give you the run down. When I asked her for a refill of my water when she came back to check on us she SCREAMED at me "I'M GETTING IT RIGHT NOW! CAN'T YOU SEE ME!?" Then when I asked her for an extra napkin she, again, shouted "I'M REALLY BUSY! YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT!!!" She was so mean and nasty, she even gave me judging dirty looks every time she walked by my table and every time I asked her for something too! Now, listen, she wasn't some 20-something wet-behind-the-ears girl who hates her job because she's really trying to become and "actress/singer/model", oh no, she was an older woman who seemed to be doing this for a long time. Why would someone act like this, especially knowing I have to tip you at the end of our lovely experience? By the way, I didn't tip her, so basically she and I are BFF's. I won't be back, suck it Michael's Kitchen. read more

I'm really torn on reviewing here now. Saturdays and Sundays, this place has a solid breakfast menu (which is available all day/night as well), and their breakfasts are really great. I'd give it a five star on that alone. However...popped in here for dinner one night, and all three of us got horrifically ill. Look, I'm not saying it WAS the food, and I'm not saying it WASN'T the food...I'm just saying that the one and only point that all three of us had in common from that day was being at this place roughly four hours before the onset of symptoms... ...that, you're welcome, I will spare you the details of. So it COULD have been a coincidence...but I also haven't ventured back here for a weekend breakfast since, either. I don't believe in living your life in fear...but I also don't believe in juggling with knives, either. All in all, the same thing could happen anywhere I suppose, and with the number of times I've been there for those weekend stacks of pancakes, I suppose one bad experience would be par for the course...but...yeesh, this was a doozy. read more

My boyfriend and I went on May 10th, Mother's Day, and it was packed. The poor servers were running around non stop, so when our food took 45 minutes we weren't really upset. When our food did come, I found a large chunk of ham in my omelette. I am a vegetarian. I ordered a vegetarian omelette. At that point I no longer trusted anything on my plate and left without finishing, it can already be hard to find vegetarian options at restaurants without having to worry about errant chunks of meat finding their way into your food. Bottom line, it's unacceptable for a restaurant to be careless with ingredients. read more

I decided to try something new for breakfast. Maybe I caught Michael's on a bad day. Maybe they were offended that I wasn't drinking coffee, which they push kind of aggressively. I don't know, but the one waitress was kind of surly and mine only came over 3 times and never checked back on me. I had to borrow Frank's red hot from the table across the aisle. Most places are pretty quick for breakfast, but almost 15 minutes for an omelette? Holy cow! If the food was good I would give them another chance, but it was only mediocre. read more

Went there for breakfast this morning with my two sons. Stopped in because it is near our church and the location is convenient. It was pretty packed like you would expect on a Sunday morning. I have eaten here before, and the food has always been very good, as it was this morning. The problem is it took 45 minute for our food to come out from the time we ordered. I worked in restaurants in college and have never seen this. I mentioned it to the hostess when cashing out, and her reply was that it is always like that on the weekends, especially that tome of day. No apology, nothing. Going downhill. Use to be a good place for lots of food at a reasonable price. A couple of weeks ago I tried the prime rib. From the flavor it was obviously left over from the day before but it was edible. This week I had the lake perch. Whatever it was it was not great lakes yellow perch which it what you expect to be served in Michigan. It was so bad I could only stomach one bite and sent it back. They still do serve good breakfasts. read more

Worst service ever. Owners son is very rude. Was there with a large party waited over an hour and 15 minutes for food and then when it came only half of our party got it, the rest waited an additional 15 or 20 minutes . Owners son didn't care he stated that everyone was waiting on orders. He said the it was slow because it's a holiday and they were busy. Don't you want your business to always be busy? But if you cannot accommodate your customers BIG FAIL!!!!!!! Feel sorry for the servers to have such poor management read more

I have eaten here before and had great experiences. Today the waitress took forever to take our order, then just dropped the food off and didn't bother checking back. My steak was barely warm and my fries were cold after waiting to return it I realized she wasn't coming back so I just ate it. When checking out the cashier who appeared to be a manager told me how her food gets cold before she can eat it when she's working and didn't seem to care about my experience. My daughter and I were so hungry and we say Michaels kitchen. We walked she sat us down and all over the floor was bits and pieces of food and of little nasty things. So we get to the table and the seats on the booth are so disgusting. We looked for something to clean it with and we found a buser with a rag and cleaned the booth seat ourselves and the rag immediately turned dirty. It looked like the floor hadn't been swept in days! I wouldn't want to eat somewhere where the appearance isn't as nice as the food. I'm certain this restaurant has seen better days today was not that day. read more

I've been coming here my whole life. A grade great spot. The best fish and chips. The kitchen is very clean and the food is all very fresh.

Place is not the same with the new owners.!! Tables sticky, used my water and napkin to get mountains of grease and grime off it. Dust on the ledges by the tables, waitress' fighting with cooks, order wrong, soup cold!!' We we're regulars here, 3-4 times a week. Think we will be finding a new place! read more

Decided to go to Michaels for dinner. Cannot go wrong with that decision. I ordered an 8oz. steak, baked potato, soup (beef goulash), salad, and dessert all for $7.99. My wife had chicken Parmesan with spaghetti, soup ( Italian Wedding), and dessert for $5.99. Service was great. Food came quickly. It was a very delicious meal and very filling. read more

We've tried this place a few times, as being from the west side and wanted to be closer to Lake St. Claire and away from our relatives that drop in without warning. East side seemed like a new adventure! Our two little tykes just love being close to the big water, as they call it! It is some of the best home cooking style around but there is a problem. The clientele is older retired locals that are mostly former blue collar big three auto line workers. We are a mixed race couple and drive newer luxury cars. Unfortunately they are not domestic cars. They were getting keyed regularly last summer and this fall. After installing dash cams and suspecting neighbors and coworkers, it ended up being the patrons at Michaels Kitchen! If you have a Mercedes or Tesla and don't look like the people inside, park across the street and tip well. The waitresses are nice and the owner knows how to run a kitchen. His soups are fantastic and you always leave full and feeling like you should have paid more. Thanksgiving dinner and 4th of July barbeque satisfied! Kababs are great just ask for extra pita bread, you get just one. Breakfast is a steal, but just don't come after church unless you expect a long wait. Unfortunately the neighborhood is more regressive, than progressive. We got stares each and every time we went in, but the food is sooooo good! If you insist on going park across the street in the run down strip mall, it is just dangerous when we have our two toddlers because Groesbeck is a true highway and the speed limit is pretty much ignored and unenforced. Always plenty of parking though over there and you won't have to worry about your nice new foreign or just looks foreign car or truck being keyed or backed into like we had done on camera. One of ours we took there just once, parked in the back by the kitchen door and all four sides were keyed as well as both side mirrors. Police replied to stay out of the area with a car that they don't want in their restaurant. "Maybe you should buy a domestic car for shopping and going out to dinner..." Found this place by accident, and shame on us because the place is so close to our house. First, the food selection is just amazing. From breakfast plates to steak dinner extravaganza. Second, the portions are just right AND delicious. My husband and I ordered the barley with mushroom soup. It was so good, it made me happy. From there on, I know I'm a very satisfied customer. Limp side salad that was $.5 for bluecheese dressing that I know was from a bottle cuz I know my bluecheese dressing and $1.5 for cheese on the salad. I am so torn about this place. I've been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I'm never disappointed in the food. Their skillets are amazing, their specials are awesome. Unlike a lot of diner places, their salad that comes with your meals are crisp and doesn't seem like it's soggy and been sitting out all day like I've experienced. They also have a variety of soups every day that are DEFINITELY homemade and awesome. No GFS chicken noodle here! However, the service is usually absolutely terrible. We've had maybe a couple of good experiences here. From one waitress who just pulls out her pen and stares at us expectantly for an order without saying a word, to other waitresses that couldn't bring us refills to save their lives, to waitresses that just seem to loathe being there and therefore cannot smile, or say anything without some kind of attitude in their tone, to waitresses that bring me the wrong drink and dessert in the same meal and can't be bothered to fix it, ignore us for twenty minutes, and I'm finally at my wits end and just leave without eating my apple cobbler and not my bread pudding that I didn't ask for. My boyfriend and I always tip well, 20%+, but whenever we are too lazy to cook and don't want to spend a ton of money coupled with a lot of patience,, we end up coming here because we usually don't have to tip much with the subpar service we get. And this is coming from someone who has worked in the food industry/works for retail so I'm usually super forgiving about little stuff. But rudeness and failing to provide just a basic decent service, not so much. read more

This morning I met with friends for breakfast at Michaels Kitchen on Grosebeck. We called ahead to see if they could accommodate our group (7) they said they could not make any promises as they do have their regulars. We got there about 9am & there was plenty of room...hardly anyone in there. We were seated, orders taken & before we were even nearly done, the so called regulars started coming in..obviously we were in their seats. The waitress started to seat them but as they were running out of room, they were seated at the other half of our table. Now mind you were were still eating. The waitress kept saying repeatedly they are leaving in a few minutes they are almost done....wth so much for letting my food settle & having a little more coffee . Went there tonight for dinner with the wife, we go there at least once a week. Tonight I had a 2.00 off coupon, when I paid ,I forgot to use it, I walked about 10 feet out the door and turned around and went back in. I told the cashier I had a coupon I forgot to use, she looked at me in disgust and rolled her eyes and told me that I could just use it next time. Well like I said, we USE to go there at least once a week, but we will never go there again. Put the 2 bucks to good use Michael's Kitchen, it cost you about 20.00 to 40.00 a week. We had soup for 5, 3 came out, 20 minutes for the other 2 ! Brother ordered a salad with dressing on the side, came out slathered on top. I got a gyro pita, pita was like cardboard, two small pieces of lamb, tomato almost non existent. Our niece ordered a steak medium rare, pretty much well done is what she got - they did make her another to go, since we didn't want to wait any longer. It took 2 hours for us to get through dinner. Terrible dinner here tonight. Ordered Short Ribs and got Pot Roast. Steaks are thin and chewy. Onion soup came with out cheese ontop. They refused to let me take my dessert home instead of eating it there. It came free with the dinner and I always ask for it to take home. I don't know what's going on here, but I won't go back. They have good breakfasts. However, my "broiled fish" was microwaved and tasteless Saturday night. I should have asked for my money back.
