Went here to get a picture framed. When I stepped up to the framing counter the young man seemed annoyed that I actually wanted to, you know, get a picture framed. Surly and not terribly helpful. Luckily I'm not one of those folks who needs a lot of help. I just wanted a simple frame job. Then I was told it would take two weeks. Seemed odd, but maybe they're really busy. Well the item did come back in two weeks and was OK, except instead of a heavy wire hanger, which every picture I've ever had framed by Michaels and other frame shops has automatically used, it had a two point hanging system. Now that would have taken a very long time with using a laser level and ruler to hang that picture. I asked for a wire and the young girl (who is still wearing a surgical mask even though science has repeatedly shown they're useless against Covid, but it's her right to wear it) seemed confused and called the manager. The manager did switch out the hanging system relatively quickly, but when I brought up that it was odd to use the two point system she said I had to ask for it when I placed the order. No lady, you need to teach your employees to tell the customers what options there are when the order is placed. So I plan to find someplace else to do my framing in the future. Also I bought something else and the check out girl did the usual "Do you have a phone number with us?" No. "Would you like give us your number?" No. thing. At least she was bright enough to quickly pick up that it was annoying me. But what is it with companies asking for personal information? The fact that she knew to stop asking those questions of me that saved Michaels from a one star review. read more

I wanted to give a shoutout to Linnie. She was working at checkout and was so kind and helpful. When I told her I'd be back later that day to get more, she said she wouldn't be there but went on to compliment her coworkers who would be. I just thought that was so nice of her to go out of her way to say nice things about her coworkers, her job and help me. Linnie is awesome! I would've left a review with corporate as well, because she was THAT nice, but I couldn't find a number on my receipt to call and they didn't send me the usual review email. This is just a review of their Wilton cake decorating classes. I've had Kim and Daci as instructors and they are both quite wonderful. The class was a lot of fun and the time flew by really quickly. One thing they don't mention is that it does take some prep time to get the icing, cake, etc ready before class so if you don't have any spare time then don't do it. You do have to buy a lot of supplies, but a lot of the supplies you buy you will be using for the rest of your life. Wilton has amazing products and luckily Michael's always has great coupons. It was getting a bit hard for me to lug things back and forth being 7 months preggo at the time, but it was definitely a fun time. You get to meet a lot of amazing people too. I know I will be using the things that I've learned in class to make awesome cakes and treats! As far as the store itself goes, there is always limited customer service, but it's worth the wait especially if you have a coupon! read more

Used to work here, so I get the procedures of what you call someone when they look suspicious when they walk in or come in with a big bag. But NEVER let the customer hear you call them a B.O.LO. Could cause offense to a person not coming into steal or put the person coming in to steal on high alert and to be more careful while stealing. When I told the older black lady to try not to let people hear you call them a bolo she directly put her hand in my face. Just left Michaels for the second time today. I placed an curbside pickup for a Ashland glass 16" jar. It was wrapped so when I got home and removed the rapping I saw what appeared to be an air bubble and rubbed my hand across it but it was actually missing glass and cut the side of my hand. I called the store and spoke to whom I'm guessing was store manager or supervisor because she was the same person who came out to the car to deliver it to me this morning. She said would sit one aside when I went in there she said that the cashier actually broke the one she sat aside so she had to go get the last one. It was wrapped, I asked them if they mind unwrapping it so I can actually see if it was damaged before leaving again and sure enough the bottom stem was shattered glass going around the stem. I asked the cashier why would they not inspect the item before wrapping it and why would they wrap the item before I actually got there, knowing that I was coming back to exchange an item that was defective? I would've went all the way home just to have to vibe back tomorrow with had prices bring very expensive and more off my time being wasted. This was an overall horrible experience from beginning to end today with this store and all I have is a cut hand to show for it. read more

What I appreciate about Michael's is they always have what I'm looking for and if it's not in stock locating it online is easy. Add to that you can always pull up a coupon on your phone. The three star rating is for the fact that they generally don't ever have enough cashiers. On this recent visit I had ordered something online for pick up. I waited in the regular line not realizing all pick ups are in the back. Would be nice if the email mentioned that. Once at the correct pick up location I had to ring the buzzer twice before I got assistance and then when I was walking out I noticed the item that was pulled for me had a minor flaw. Probably something the puller wouldn't have realized. I didn't even bother standing in line again. I just switched it out myself. read more

I'd like to think am an avid crafter so it always makes me happy to come to this place. I call it my "wonderland". It almost always has what I'm looking. From scrap booking materials, embossing tools, wood crafts, perlers, painting, decorations, etc. Endless possibilities! They even have mini tsumtsums, and funko pop collectibles now. The only thing I notice about Michaels is that there is never anyone around to help you out when you have a question about where something is located or what you use when you're thinking of a certain project. I visit this store for very specific reasons, mostly around the holidays when I need to make gift baskets. And that is what this store is for. Arts and crafts. I have been able to get some really great deals. Especially before Christmas when they have they have their sales and start marking down all their Christmas items. This is my local Michaels Store - I try to stop by anytime I'm in the Arroyo Crossing Shopping Center. It's your typical arts and crafts store, although not as fabric-oriented or as large as a Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores. They recently reorganized this store - it looks like they were trying to expand or organize their scrapbooking section. (Something I do appreciate since I'm a scrapper.) They also reorganized the register lines - it's now one line that snakes around and you wait for the next available register. Although it's clear that this is their new attempt (and the signage says "Please wait here for the next available cashier."), I don't get why customers still try to line up for each individual cash register. Old habits are hard to break I guess. They have weekly events going on - some specific for children too. Classes are available at this location as well for baking and other related crafts. Customer service varies - some days there are employees everywhere and other days there is only one person at the register and a long line. I think they are still trying to figure out when their rush is. They do accept competitor coupons, which is a huge plus! 3.5 stars read more

UPS drop off closes :7:30. Walk right into the store and you will see the sign. I called to verify to BE ABSOLUTE SURE, the lady on the phone kept saying 7:30. --- 7:04 I go in to, to go to the drop box. They stopped my husband immediately to tell him the drop box closed at 7. Very rudely and acted like we were DUMB. They clearly didn't care about the customer. The 2 male employees couldn't even look up at my husband while speaking: MAN TO MAN definitely not more like disrespectful little boys lol. & on top of all that the older lady with pink hair ( who was probably on the phone with me not even 2 hours ago ) was just sitting there looking like she knew damn well she gave us the wrong information & wouldn't speak up. She was QUICK to get off the phone as well when we were trying to verify the closing time. They ads not fully closed, there were still people in that store and I got turned down. Forget about quality customer relations and speedy service. They take HOURS to handle transactions, taking notes, ANYTHING. I'm not a crafty person but I go to Michael's to buy favors when I throw a party, to buy frames and to shop for holiday merchandise. This is your average Michael's and it's usually well stocked. However, this places is absolutely maddening to shop in because no matter when you go, the lines to check out are absolutely insane! And they NEVER have more than ONE register open! What is wrong with these people? I always see plenty of employees rambling about, but there's always just one poor person stuck at the lone register. I have turned around and walked out of the store on several occasions because the line was so long. I now shop at another craft store because it doesn't take me 45 minutes to check out. Needed some yarn and was on a mission for a specific kind. Checked online and the store said they should have it. Unfortunately they didn't and I tried to find some similar yarns that would match but no. The store feels a bit run down. The staff however is very nice greeted as soon as you walk through the door. Everything is a little hard to find because it's all scattered, like the staff haven't quite put everything back yet. Waited about a week, called the store and asked if they had the yarn and they said yes they do they will put t on hold for me. So when I came to pick it up, once again no yarn :( I don't know who I spoke with but whoever she was never the yarn on hold let alone was it even in the store. Love coming to this store for my arts and crafts needs. I usually am able to find a good coupon to use if what I need is not already on sale. I just found out from the cashier today that they have carry classes and they'll be having some classes for kids this summer kind of like a summer camp for crafts. I may consider taking my nephew's and nieces since they love crafts and are out of school for a few months. The place is a bit messier than other Michaels stores, but everything that's on sale is clearly marked which is great. I had some photos of my dad that needed framing. A friend of mine, who adores Michael's for crafts, mentioned they also did frames. On August 2, I went to the back of the store and the frame team was giving off a fun vibe. They were attentively helping customers and working in the back with genuine smiles on their faces. I showed them my photos and Andrew and his team collaborated on how to best set the photos. They picked a subtle yet eye catching combo for matting and a rustic type frame. I went in to see about buying a few frames for some art I want to get up on the walls. Then, much to my delight I saw they were having a 70% OFF Custom Framing sale! 70% OFF??? WOWZA! My little bargain hunter heart started to pitter pat!! The next day I marched in with several pieces. One large piece that I have always wanted to change the frame on. A few others that just needed new mats, and to be placed into new updated frames. The staff at the framing counter were SO HELPFUL! They answered all my silly questions, walked me though the process of choosing, and making decisions on the final project. They were great! My large piece came out fantastic! It is perfect now!! I will say, with the 70% off it was still over $400 bucks! In my opinion, the 70% off made it on the pricier side of ok, I will do it. With out discount it would have been $1500?? Hell NO! But with the sale, it seemed like what I had expected it to cost. OK, so no bargain, but i LOVED the job they did! It looks perfect! That is what matters above all else! All the other work was perfect as well, I had to make a few trips to get everything. But in the end, I was very happy! Oh, and I grabbed a few Holiday Decorations while waiting too! Michael's appeals to a side of me I don't believe exists, but apparently deep down I wish did - you know, the crafty housewife that impresses all her friends with her homemade jewelry and custom birthday cakes? The girl who scrapbooks all her photos and creates stunning floral arrangements. Yeah, I suppose that's why I waste so much time on Pinterest; deep down there's a person trying to get her creative side out. Every time I walk into a Michael's store my creativity gene goes into overdrive. I have to stay focused on the purchase I came in for, or I'll lose myself and track of time wandering the isles, and filling my basket with items I imagine I'll magically create into something great. But who am I kidding? Yesterday I came in looking for a 16"x20" frame, this is always my go to spot for any frame lager than a 5"x7". Not only do they have a fantastic selection including shadow boxes and multi-opening frames, every week they run a coupon in their weekly flier. (Note that you will need to print your coupon before hand or have it on their phone app. because the fliers in the store don't have coupons in them.) I was lucky enough to drop in during a 40% off frame sale - woo hoo! On top of that, this week is their Friends & Family event, which meant I had a coupon for an additional 25% off my purchase - this folks, is why I buy my frames at Michael's. Turns out, the larger the frame you're looking for, the fewer the options you have. I only had about 5 options in 16"x20", while there seemed to be 100 in sizes 11'x14" and smaller. Nonetheless, I found a frame I love. This store is always clean and organized, I never have trouble finding what I'm looking for. Yesterday the line at the register looked overwhelming, but they had 4 cashiers so it moved quickly. I was out the door with a beautiful huge frame for under $35, feeling like I boss because full retail was $69! I'll now be able to frame my photo myself and for a brief moment feel like I am the the creative little housewife that I'll really never be. read more

There's a bunch of Michaels around town and one very close to my home, but sometimes when there's sales on particular items, I browse ALL Michaels nearby other errands. Everytime I come to this location, I appreciate how neat it is. Some of the stores can get a mess, but it's always attractive here. Since lately my whole thing has been looking for various things, anything and everything, to make for wedding decor I scour up and down every single aisle for ideas and definitely one of the neatest Michaels I've seen. A nice feat, considering it was busy on weekends I pop in here. I find their staff here to be pretty friendly too. I'm usually just asking where things are, but they have offered up ideas and alternatives they could think of to help make my projects better. I come here to wonder around what my next project should be. Photography related? A painting? Something with paper? Well, Michael's gotssss everything that you need. You know how people go to Target and they have a route to check out every aisle? So do I here. Check the paint section, frames, paper, articial flowers and then clearance. What I love about Michael's is that they have sales all the time. Sometimes it's buy one get one free or 50% same item. It's a hit or miss. Well, for me, it's always a hit! Pretty much has everything one needs for arts & crafts. I often find myself going here to just look around to see what kind of fun stuff they have that will hopefully inspire me to make something. It's located in the Arroyo Shopping Center, next to the Ross & TJ Max. Parking is decent and the store is never too busy. They also often have great sales. I usually take advantage of their 50% frames sale. It's also a pretty new store - so it's cleaner than a lot of the other Michaels that I go to. I married a crafty woman. Because of her, I've also developed my own crafty side. Other men may not want to admit that they've seen the inside of many a craft store, I am not that kind of man. This Michael's is pretty conveniently located near our home. It is also in a shopping center with other delightful stores, but we never really seem to hit those other places up. To me this Michael's is a bit on the small side. However, it carries all the same products as other Michael's stores, and has a friendly staff. This location also offers classes for both adults and children ranging from crafts to cake decoration. This store is also very new, and stays pretty clean. The staff also keep it well organized. Now, I don't always need to go to craft stores, but when I do I go to Michael's...or whichever store the wifey prefers. :-D read more

There are some positives and negatives to Michael's. A few good things are they have a ton of stuff, you can find some great bargains and good pricing. A few negatives are that they cram the aisles so close, and some of the stuff feels or seems cheap in quality (I'm sure to keep prices lower). Here are some items I get from Michael's and feel good about the prices and the quality: holiday decor - Halloween and Christmas specifically some scrap-booking supplies like adhesives, empty albums, album sheets, card stock, sticker letters... kids craft supplies acrylic paint (not the good stuff, just poster paint) I love their 40% off coupon, it definitely helps keep the bill low. I can't seem to walk out of here without spending at least $50! I do have to give this location props for their store. It's usually quite clean an organized, and the employees are helpful. read more

This is the closest Michaels near my home. It is mostly dead, specially at night. I do prefer coming here at night though, since there are almost no lines. During the day time, it can get a little bit busy, that's not good when the majority of the time there's only one cashier working, but they do call for a back up cashier when that starts happening. Saturday mornings they offer kids craft classes for only $2 each and 30 minutes long. It's an inexpensive way for kids to do something fun and productive. Never coming back. I used to love this Michaels but they got a bunch of new employees that obviously don't know what they're doing. I went in trying to use a $5 voucher that I had in my rewards stood in line for about 30 minutes then when I get up to the register I showed the cashier and she said she couldn't take it. I asked why and she just said she couldn't. Didn't even try to scan or type in the code. And mind you it expires in mid March so it's not like it already expired. I asked again why and she just said she couldn't. So I asked to talk to a manger cause I wasn't understanding why. I get if there was a problem with not scanning or a error but she didn't even try. When I asked for a manger she rolled her eyes and me and talked into her headset. Waited about 10 minutes and no one came. I ended up not buying my stuff cause I was irritated. I walked around the store and asked someone else if I could talk to a manger and she talked into her headset and again no one came. This place used to have the best customer service and everyone was always so friendly and helpful but now it's a shit show. read more

Iron Law of Michaels (other than "omit the apostrophe"): Always Use a Coupon. Since I don't take the newspaper, don't have a convenient printer, and my husband recycles all circulars before they can enter the house and become part of the slush pile of mail that already teeters dangerously on its designated stool, I used to avoid Michaels unless something I specifically wanted was on sale that week. Otherwise it would be too depressing to buy anything, knowing that almost every week there's a 40%-off (almost everything) coupon, if only you have the patience to get it. Now Michaels has a smartphone app for paper-haters like myself, and the employees at this store have no problem scanning it. (Take that, hordes of restaurant servers who have yet to master Groupon's app.) Furthermore, the app sometimes offers daily coupons that you won't get in the mail. You probably already know that Michaels is a big-box national chain craft store. I've been shopping at Michaels since 1980s in Texas and at this location since they opened. So, knowing what Michaels is and should be, how does this particular store measure up? Well, if you measure the length of the check-out lines, you can see one reason that I can't give this store more than two stars. I'd give the typical Michaels store 3.5 stars, with 4 stars for ones with great staff and organization. I don't like the coupon-driven business model or the sometimes limited range of options in the stock (tending toward the cheap), and the employees rarely seem to have any actual craft knowledge, but Michaels in general will get the job done if you know what you want. The people working the checkout have always been friendly, but I can't count the number of times I've simply put down my shopping basket and walked out because, even if I'm "only" a half-dozen people away from the (usually lone) checker, the wait has already gone too far into double-digit minutes. (Note: I usually shop in the evening, but I don't think I've ever had a good queue experience.) My husband would tell you that he doesn't like the weird smell in any Michaels, but this one's floral/plastic/whatever-it-is scent does seem more heady, perhaps because the store is smaller than some. I don't know the actual square footage, but everything feels very crowded and seems to always be in a state of stocking/unboxing, like if you wander down certain aisles of a grocery store at 3 a.m. It doesn't make for pleasant browsing, just getting inspired like I can at other craft stores. My final criticism is that the ongoing classes could be better advertised. The one-off make-and-takes and so forth get good coverage at the front of the store (kudos there), but every time I think I'm tempted to finally do a Wilton course, I can't seem to find a calendar or fee list. (The one time I asked an employee, she and the cashier on duty couldn't either, but that was over a year ago and hopefully is no longer the case.) Maybe if the store were less cluttered/messy I wouldn't miss it. I hear that Michaels charges much more for Wilton classes, but that they often have sales or a coupon to make the fees comparable to Jo-Ann's prices. Again, this constant shuffle of "sale" prices that match regular prices elsewhere bugs me, but that's a Michaels-thing and not particular to this store. Overall, this is not a bad place to shop. I give it two stars ("Meh. I've experienced better.") because I feel it does have some compelling store-specific issues: the wait times, the nice-but-always-so-harried staff, and the messy look of the store with a few organization issues. (Products that are in the same category - like stamps or stickers - are sometimes aisles apart.) But, if you know you just want some champagne microbeads, AND you have your coupon (always bring a coupon!), this location will be perfectly serviceable.
